gotei 13

soo.... i'm only on episode 30, but i'm getting super confused about all the divisions and characters in the soul society. i can find info on tons of sites about captains and luitenents, but i'm curious what each division does.... some are obvious, but others i haven't even heard about yet...

1 - leaders of the gotei 13 (right?)
2 - "special forces" (? maybe like the FBI)
3 -
4 - Medical division
5 -
6 -
7 -
8 -
9 -
10 -
11 - battle division (?) they are the strongest in battle
12 - research division
13 -

i guess i'm just wondering if anyone knows more about the functions of them.... i know its not terribly important, but its one of those things that bugs me and i've been trying to figure out.

ps. why the hell is the 13th division's captain always sick? i mean he's a spirit, how does he get sick?

Yeah... I personally have no clue. Um... there was another topic on this, but since I have class until 5 CST today, I can't exactly dig it up right now.

About Ukitake, I guess souls can get sick as a way for them to perish, and it's believed that when souls in SS "die" they get reborn into the real world. So I guess it's possible for souls to get sick as if they were real people.

another weird thing about the show is that the souls never age or change, but apparently rukia and renji have, (ep in ep 32, renji talks about his past and they are children)

Ummm, most sites have it wrong. The 2nd division is NOT special forces. The special forces are an entirely seperate entity from the gotei 13. Soi Fong just happens to hold both a position in the gotei 13 AND the onmitsu kidou (special forces). Yoruichi never was a captain in the gotei 13, she was only the commander of the onmitsu kidou.

7th squad has some very odd action, you hardly see the squad or captain ever in fighting and I'm not to sure if Komamura's guardian role is all the entire squad does
