And if you thought the news about FireFox 3 was weird. Theres some information about a new OS from Microsoft in 2009...
icrosoft: Vista follow-up likely in 2009 - With Vista just out the door, Microsoft is now drawing up plans to deliver its follow-up client operating system by the end of 2009, according to the executive in charge of building the product's core components. Hah, nice way to stop people upgrading to Vista. If they are going to have a new one soon and I was purchasing a computer right now, I'd opt for the stability of XP and hold out upgrading until the next OS version.
More info here.

Of course, they have already planned the years ahead to develop new OS after Vista. Its probably going to be delayed as usual though :)

Doubt it Microsoft will release "Windows Vienna" (The project name for the next OS)on time, Vista was scheduled to be released for consumers last year and look what happened.
And I'm cheesed off that Microsoft delayed SP3 for XP until 2008 which is bullshit.

But think how much they can improve SP3 now :o

I will never upgrade past Windows XP. Why? Because Vista has all kinds of content security that makes it impossible to backup Windows, backup your music, or even upgrade your computer easily. Also, hardware will be getting more and more expensive, because Microsoft is putting all these unnecessary restrictions of hardware manufacturers. As far as I am concerned, it's time to buy a Macintosh, and run Linux on it. Windows is dead to me.

I installed the RTM version of Windows Vista and it drove me up the wall, I wanted to see what it was like. Biggest pile of bloatware ever. I hated the fact when you opened a window/folder and you have to wait for all the folders to load up which was gay. And another thing is I hated the folder layout, looks terrible, even you set it to classic icons view and apply it to all folders, the next folder you click on will be on its default setting, "List" icons which I despised.
And deleting a file takes forever. Biggest pile of shit I've used from Microsoft. Am I upgrading? Doubt it. Even XP isn't perfect but has a simpler layout.

Exactly my thoughts. The content securty "feature" is a complete load, and is so unecessary for an OS. It IS time to buy a Macintosh and/or take you Windows computer and shove it off a 20-story buliding, chanting, "Die Microsoft, die." Haha.

I read Paul Thurott's website and Microsoft is planning to release this "Vienna" on a 64 bit technology only. Well, I guess these days CPU's are all 64 bit so in the future everybody would use 64 bit technology. I just hope this "Vienna" operating system will be better than crappy Vista, which I doubt it. Probably more junk and bloatware.

hey man, i'm down for ms just because they're doing what any typical business wants to achieve - they're making the money.. and when you really think about it, their products aren't that bad.. -.- maybe for tech junkies such as yourselves but for the average consumer?? no.. i mean i can't WAIT to get my hands on vista, yeah a lot has prolly been changed but hey, just means that there is something new to learn.. only thing stopping me is the lack of support [as in technical] and the fact that i don't want to lose some of the third party apps i'm running on XP.. so yeah, bill gates started out as one of us you know....=/

if i buy vista and load it onto my computer ( all specs are fine, its a yr old)
it will just switch the OS from XP to Vista right, i wont have to reload all of my other programs and other stuff right?
just checking before i attempt the switch

I will buy Vista as soon as a bug fix is released, buying an OS straight away can lead to some problems with compatibility.

thats kind of the point we're making about Vista the list of programs that become less than working properly seem to be very pre-determined by M$
many programs they don't want to work will either not work or barely work unless you use a workaround.

vista is shit. who ever buys it, or even DOWNLOADS it and hack it, they are just wasting there money and time. theres no point buying a OS when theres nothing compitable with it. already theres so much issues with vista. the 8xxx drivers, the compitablily with vista, etc
