Hello all,
I just bought a new ATI Radeon 512MB x1600 Pro and I'm having problems with it. I have a standard CRT monitor with the normal video input and this video card uses a newer video input. A convertor came along with it so I'm using that one. Problem is that when I boot my computer up, the computer restarts several times and finally boots up, but I cannot see anything on my monitor, the button light keeps flashing green.
So whats wrong with it? Is it my motherboard or the video card that has problems?
Thanks for reading this, I just bought it and I'm cheesed off I can't use it.

do you have more than one outlet on the card?
if so try the other one because until you set the secondary monitor in settings it wont recognize the second outlet.

The video card might be faulty, see if you can get a replacement.
Do you have any other computers with the same video card plug (AGP, PCI, PCI-Express) if you do, put it into that computer and see what happens. If it works, then it might be conflicting with your motherboard.

Yes I have two outlets on my video card, tried that, didn't work either.
Unfortunately I don't have another computer with a PCI-Express slot so I'll have to take it back to the computer store tommorow.

Remove the card and see if everything works fine. If it does, then it's the card, if not, then it's your motherboard or monitor (I am assuming you have onboard video and that the card is to supplant your mobo one).
If you determine it to be the card, you can try several things.
1.) Reseat it in its slot to ensure a strong and proper connection as cards really have to be pushed in hard until it feels as though it is in.
2.) Try a different PCI-E bus (if you have one)
3.) Try a different card (of another brand or whatnot if you have one) to see if that card works.
4.) Return the card and/or get another one.
If the card still does not work, ensure proper compatibility with your system through documentation.
You owe me $200. ;)

Anyway, I returned the card to the computer store and they replaced it. I'm using it and it works fine. Thanks for all your help by the way, it was the card it was fault itself, not my computer. Don't you hate it when you buy something and it doesn't work, you have to return it.

Indeed, that is the worst thing ever, because you think, "Why does there have to be faulty products?" And then you get that feeling, "Oh man this ONLY happens to me."
Glad to hear you got that going, how does it work by the way? Running any Hi-Res games and such? I have a Radeon as well, not the X1600 of course, but I still have one, and I like it. Lol.

It works fine, all my game settings are on high, no lag at all. I'm quite impressed by its performance and the budget wasn't high as well.

Sorry for double posting, here is an update:
Is anybody here using the latest ATI drivers? I had lots of problems with it, so I'm using an older driver which works perfectly. The problems I had is when I play games for a certain amount of time, lets say about 5 minutes or more, the game will crash and displays a shitty error saying "This program experienced some error and cannot continue". And I have a SNES emulator and when I open a ROM it will crash immediately. Anybody else having this problem?

ATI really needs to work on their drivers. Same as NVidia, they aren't perfect either, I had problems with them too.
And I hate that Catalyst Control Centre, its bloatware, takes forever to load at boot up and its unnecessary. Why did ATI have to get rid of that classic control panel and replaced it with this shit anyway?
Anyway, I just download the driver and use this nifty tool called ATI Tool Tray, much better.

The CATALYST Control Panel is okay to use, just make sure you set it to use your system menubar, instead of there insanely bogged down one.
ATI Tool Tray, I had it for a while on my previous XP install, but I didn't see any results from it. How does it work exactly? o_o

Did you download the latest version? It should work.
You can adjust settings like the colour, brightness, contrast, etc. Just make sure its running all the time and you can configure it on the Windows tray.

Ah, I thought it was used for overclocking and whatnot. o_o
