Wheel of Time by Robert Jordan is a very good example of that, in 1988 he said that "it was only going to be a trilogy".. It is now on it's eleventh book and still going strong..

I'm pretty sure that it's every pirate (Brethren of the Coast?) versus the East India Trading Company with Davey Jones.

One thing with the lastet in the set of trilogies, the last one seems to be the longest. SM3 was nearly 3 hours, shrek 3 is supposed to be quite long, Rush Hour 3 will be long and jokes, POTC3 will also be long. but all should be good.

It doesnt have unnecessary scenes (like the second), but it still expands the lore and mythology of the series well past the first one.

Well, I can try, although I'm not sure if I can put it into words... But first, let me clarify this: I don't know about the reviews, but from me, "makes no sense" was at least half positive statement.

I too think the plot was fantastic, and delighting, but part of the fascination to me came from the fact that it was also pretty absurd with all those twists and turns and sides constantly changing. Then, the Kalypso thing, and pirate council, and a few other things seemed like they were just invented on the spot, which wasn't a bad thing but added to the absurdity.

When I walked out of the theater, I just had this most surreal feeling. I was just shaking my head and saying, "that made no sense at all", and feeling great.

I just saw the movie last night, it was awesome. And yes, many people didn't like it because of the comedy, I once though the comedy would ruin the films too but guess I opened up eh?

I was touched by Devvy Jones' story, his tale, his love for the goddess. Whom supposedly betrayed him. I figure is like this: Devvy Jones fall in love with the goddess whom gave him a job to take care of the dead on the other side of the world. Jones abide to this rule for over hundred years, thinking that once his job is done, he would be the goddess forever. But he was fooled, when he finished the job, the goddess wasn't there when he got back to the land of the living, thus angered he betrayed the goddess by telling the pirate lords how to seal her.

The pirates lords, whom believes they are the sole ruler of the water, happily performed the ritual and lock the goddess of water to a human form, so she can forever be a servant to them. However, Jones somehow still haven't got his job done, he was still the captain of the Flying Dutchman. But he didn't want to take care of the dead anymore and thus he left it undone, and as punishment he and his crew was transformed into the monsters you see in the film and why Will Turner's crew wasn't like that because Will didn't ran away, he took care of the dead.

Well the variety of opinions about this movie just stuns me.

Actually, Davvy Jones turned in to monster because he neglect to do his job (taking care of the dead on the other side) and that is his punishment, ofcourse that is after the Goddess is sealed.

omigosh, i loved this movie. i think it was almost 3 hours long and i didnt find any part boring :D [unlike the second movie].

oh and about the question for a 4th movie:
i hope so. but if there was a 4th, there really isnt much of a plot left anymore [although i do still have a lot of unanswered questions]. if you saw the ending that they show after the credits it shows will coming back to elizabeth and their son...which probably means will fulfilled his debt/curse as the captain of the flying dutchman and he could go home [i think]. and as for jack and barbosa, they're probably just continuing the chase for the black pearl

...but if anyone has any news for a 4th movie, please tell

Wow, I saw it yesterday and it was awsome! I liked it better than the 2nd, don't know if it's better than the first though. But yeah it was like 3 hours and 10 minutes long, and they totally left an opening for a 4th enstallment and much more. They had some good twists in the movie hich surprised me. And I enjoyed the movie though, and I can't wait to have it on DVD!

@bleachxxliz: Yes, Will's curse had been lifted, the "One day at land, ten years at sea" due to the fact that Elizabeth was faithful to him for ten long years (seeing that she's on a Island, I don't see why she would commit adultery).

I saw it today! Lol, I loved it! I think it's very good. The "Pirates" trilogy left a very good impression on me, because I liked all three movies.

The first half of the movie was confusing, though. I didn't really understand the plot; it seemed like they were too busy making stuff blow up and making cool sword fights that don't really seem to fit in. Now, the second half of the movie... oh boy, did that kick ass! I really liked the ending.

I love this movie~! Saw it the day it come out, I was so happy I nearly cried T_T
The ending was good, could've been happier but I liked the ending! I really loved the movie, I'm glad it was long otherwise they would've missed out on so much. So many funny bits. Pissed myself laughing when Jack was talking to himself on the boat :P

The movie was great, it's my favourite out of the three of them. I'll be getting it as soon as it comes out on dvd~! I saw it on the day it came out and I haven't seen it since...Wahhhhh~! I want to watch it again~!

@elendil: I was in the same position. I was jumping in my seat mumbling, "when's it gonna end, is there gonna be an intermission?? I really have to pee!" So when the credits started running I dashed to the loo then returned to the cinema to watch the end ^^
