HELL YEAH. I don't care if you don't like the show (if you start posting like that, prepare for a ban), but it's probably one of the most popular reality series of all time. It's got its downsides (COUGH UNTALENTED SINGERS COUGH) but then it's got its bonuses too (COUGH TRY OUTS COUGH).

But to be completely honest, I always like the top 12 performances. They're gimmicky, sure and ridiculously long sometimes, but I like them! I mean, DIANA ROSS was a guest and LULU NOONE. Last year was Rod Stewart. Come on, you really can't beat that. =P

So, post who your favorites are, how you felt about performances, and please please PLEASE limit the spam.

Yes, it does. This season's top aren't great singers. For instance, there was that Antonella chick who couldn't sing well. And right now, in the top 11, there are several who aren't really talented singers. And some are just boring.

Tryouts are definatley the best part of the show,just genious, but yea after those i kinda tune out and just have to listen to everyone at work gush over it and i have no clue who they're talking about

Yay for American Idol, but I kind of stopped watching after the try outs. I'll start to watch again for the finals unless it already happened i'm not really sure, but it's alright. The only person who ever actually had success though, was Kelly Clarkson.

Carrie Underwood has also had much success. I mean, she has won a Grammy award and is a multi-platinum selling record artist. But Kelly Clarkson is also very successful. Some of the winners, I never here anything that they've released recently. Its only when they win, they release a song, and then that's basically it.

Eh, they actually did a little tribute to all the more "successful" winners of American Idol on one of the recent episodes.

Kelly Clarkson - serious success story. She's on her second album now?
Carrie Underwood - the most successful Idol (according to Simon). She's has the highest record sale average and she's won at least two Grammys and a country music award.
Jennifer Hudson - She didn't even win. Hell, she didn't even make TOP 5 and she won an OSCAR for best supporting actress in Dream Girls. Plus, she's got incredible talent and kicked Beyonce out of the water.

I know the other actual winners had a lot of accomplishments, but Kelly and Carrie are my favorites and the only ones worth mentioning. (Except that Fantasia is my ultimate favorite, but I'm still waiting for her to do something AMAZING or win an award).

Plus ALOT of the Idols have had acting deals and commerical stuff. I mean, it literally PAYS to be on that show. You get some public exposure and work afterwards.

I would say Kelly is the most succesful, Carrie being second. She's on her third album now which is to be released soon. Her second album was huge without the Idol machine behind it. Taylor Hicks and Ruben Studdard - where are they?


All of the guys are really bad this year compared to the girls. Sanjaya is the worst by far. But he MUST stay in for the sake of entertainment. I see Jordin, Blake and Melinda in the top 3.

@ mool: Fantasia was your favorite? She's my worst one imo. I didn't think she deserved to win, and as expected in my eyes, she isn't matching up to the big ones like Kelly and Carrie. I heard she's on broadway now...starring in the Color Purple.

Sanjaya needs to go...he definitly doesn't deserve to stay there and I'm interested in seeing which guys can truly step it up. We need a super successful guy besides Clay.

Yes! I loved Fantasia! Partially because she was the first Idol that I followed all the way from the tryouts and she has such a great personality. Her voice totally unique.

votefortheworst is funny. I don't necessarily agree with their view but they do express what most of us feel about contestants but don't say(eg. sans-neck Melinda, Penis-with-ears).
And they consitute a very little percentage of the voters so I doubt they have much impact at all.

Season six contestants are not good except Melinda and Lakisha. Stephanie is good but less people voted her..

Well, I was actually very shocked... Sanjaya did surprisingly well yesterday... I still thought Blake was the best performer of the night though. Disappointing for others. I reckon Phil or Hayley has to go.

Haley went. :) No surprise there. Her attempt on the sex appeal thing really ticked me off. That's even a more pathetic gimmick than Sanjaya's hair. I'm looking forward to see him in the final 3. That will be pure entertainment right there.

I'm not really interested to watch The American Idol. Even here in Canada, I don't really watch the Canadian Idol.

I only watched the first season. It was good. Until then, I don't watch it anymore. I just watched Sanjaya's Spanish Song Performance and I like the song. His voice is suited for it. Simon was right because he said that it wasn't horrible (even if he never understands the language). Plus, I feel bad for Sanjaya. A lot of people mocking him...Everybody is talking about him these days...Well, let's just wait if he will be remain there or not... I just don't know.

Haha there is also a German Idol and a English Idol that I know of for sure.
Sanjaya is IMO just getting through due to the indian population voting for him....

There are also Philippine Idol, australian Idol, Super Idol(greece), Idol Stjornuleit(Iceland), Indonesian Idol, Latin American Idol, Malaysian Idol, NZ Idol(New Zealand), Singapore Idol, Vietnam Idol, Indian Idol and many more..

Yeah I know what you mean. I really feel there aren't that many contestants this time, only really two or three that are any good, which has probably lead to people just voting for anyone, not just on their singing.

American Idol isn't just a competition. I bet half of the contestants there don't even want to win. AI is just a great promotional gig for a lot of the contestants. Once you get to say, the top 5, you'll pretty much be guaranteed a shot at a singing career. Last season proved that winning isn't necessarily the best thing. The winners have to make a clean, generic pop album as their contractual obligation. And look where that has gotten Taylor Hicks. Chris Daughtry finished in forth place yet he has one of the fastest selling idol albums ever. Only two of the five Idol winners have really gone to make commercial success. Of course they are Kelly and Carrie.

I'm glad that i don't audition for this kind of crap. Sanjaya's voice isn't bad at all. After all, he became one of the finalists...Unlike people who didn't get in. I'm just jealous that they watched the advance screening of Shrek III - Especially they met Antonio Bandera in person...waaahhhh....

I feel bad for Sanjaya. Recall Taylor Hicks. He got mocked too - but he won... poor Sanjaya. He cried on stage. People made fun of him....

Yes and I agree. Taylor Hicks is talented. He sings well. If Sanjaya sings seriously, I think he will remain in the competition. Well, Sanjaya is gone now and I just don't know which one will win. Even even if someone will declare the winner, I'm not exactly sure if he/she will last in the recording business industry anyway. :rolleye09

In general, the boys don't really have it this year, and Sanjaya's mess was pretty much an extra gimmick to prove that.

I have a feeling that the producers had something to do with Melinda's elimination. They wanted the two most marketable contestants(Jordin, Blake) to be in the finale so they can sell more records. They are trying to avoid another Taylor Hicks winning. He didn't sell much records.
