What do you think about this? Russia is going to provide the energy to hypothetically any country in the world.

hmm...thats pretty intresting.
So its basically a nuclear power plant that is mobile.
So...whats this debate supposed to be on? whether or not countries will buy them, or about the power plants?

If it is about the power plants i think that it is wrong to have mobile nuclear power plants due to the effect it may have on the environment, but i do support the idea of converting to nuclear power rather than using fossil fuels.

sorry to say it can't be both ways you either have to sacrifice a bit fo the enviorment for progress, or non of it at all, back on topic. With the way Russia's been supplying power to nations like Iran (they helped the construct some fo their nuclear facilities) I think it's a dangerous idea to assume that they would construct and then use this for the benifit of the global community.

what effect might it have on the environment?
right now it is a purely great way to generate lots of electricity and in a way that is fairly cheap.

A nuclear power plant doesn't produce polution the way a thermal power plant does. Although, it produces some radiations (minor if well used, major otherwise). The biggest problem, with nuclear energy, is when it's time to deal with the radiated matter that can no more be used. The better thing we found, until now, is to burry it in tons and tons of ciment.

If this technology is less damageable to the environement than fossil fuels, it's still less efficient than hydro-electricity and heolian and geothermic energy, for the environement.

Well I agree with that the fact dumping nuclear waste is a big problem...Human and Rubbish relations is a problem still today even though not much people are concerned of it, but now it's not just normal everyday rubbish
but Radioactive waste!

From the photo on the website I have another query. As it is to be built on water that has a bit of ice on it. Surely there are wildlife there that is able to withstand the cold (fish?) but what happens if the water is being warmed up by the power station? They all die?:rolleye09

heres what i dont get, it says that the FNPP have more protection than land NPP, so kind of protections does land gets, and how does water be more safe.

Well I reckon that the FNPP, seeing as it is not on land and that terrorists might try to hijack it, would have walls thick enough to prevent an aeroplane crashing into the reactor; it says that in the article; it would have its own security force to prevent hijack from terrorists landing on it and taking it over.

lol oh sry didnt read that part, but well...hmm... it seems safe from those kind of things, the main idea about having a nuclear powered something is to keep it isolated, Nuclear wastes and leaks can cause more problem than anything else, but after all the sea have more space to build stuff upon, so by useing those space safes more land fills. In my opinion it is better than land made nuclear powerplant, but other issues not just security and safty concerns the general public, if this technology advances fast enough the enimy can build a mini military base in the middle of the sea with enough power to hold it up for a very long time, if its attacked it have the risk of beeing destroyed and contaminate the sea wich will cost international problem. Nuclear is good, but side effect must not be IGNORED at all time

I heard about this while reading information on nuclear power for my speech. The idea is smart but extremely dangerous. I will give it a thumb up for my opinion if they can make it safe and secure.
