Bah I don't think he is dumb. He is definitely hot headed, headstrong and impulsive, but dumb? Don't think so. He is kinda like Renji and Zaraki when it comes to fighting. All of them just go for the battle without any sort of plan, but the good thing is that they throw all they got into it which makes them interesting to watch.

Also, giving examples from comedy sequences to prove he is dumb is, no offense, a bit retarded in itself. Those scenes were INTENDED to be funny. Remember the scene where Ishida ties Ichigo's zampaktu on his head before shooting at Menos? That made him look like retarded kid but we all know he is one of the smartest guys when it comes to strategies.

Protect, protect, protect is all he is thinking. To protect he must get stronger, get stronger, get stronger.. Win, win, win.. He is a 15 year old put in a situation of kill or be killed. He's so emotional his head going at 120mph all the time, he does not take the time to think logically. Plus he is not really the quickest when it comes to logic and solutions to problems. He beats every problem away. That is what his friends are for though, to help him in the area he needs while he keeps them alive (so far). He is getting better though and has shown intelligence during a fight. He learns something important about fighting almost every time he fights. He shows concentration in fights more and more (The fight with Fang face is the most recent example). He is not dumb as far as brain smarts goes but does not always take the time to think before action, which puts him in a LOT of sticky situations. Plus he is very impatiend and these combined together could easily be confused with dumbness.

Another way of looking at it is that he is just so confident and arrogant with his ability and power that he does not care until he is getting slashed up by his opponent.

Ichigo must pretty smart because look at how much he has accomplished with the amount of time he's had. Mainly, the fact that he learned Bankai in 3 days where it takes most shinigami years and years of intense training to obtain bankai must say something for his intelligence. Ichigo has been a shinigami for the least amount of time and yet has rocked SS on its ass. And though he's getting pimpsmacked now, you know that somewhere along the line something is gonna happen where his power is going to increase more. If anyone has the potential to overcome any obstacles its obviously the hero of the story, Ichigo.

As far as forgetting memories within a couple episodes I just think it was to add to the drama and tension in these early battles. Its because of this need to add drama and tension by making Ichigo slowly gain power that makes the show interesting to watch. The show/manga would be pretty boring to watch if Ichigo knew how to use his powers from the get-go and wreck everything in sight. That's why we need him to have a slow learning curve so the watcher or reader can fully appreciate his growth from Ashy to Classy if you will. Or even better... Zero to Hero... A perfect example of this is DBZ...

Anyways, I still maintain that I don't think he is stupid. Plus, isn't he one of the top ranking students in his class?

Yes Ichigo has raw ability, that though doesn't equate to intelligence. The fact of the matter is he is intelligent. It's just that in battles he lacks strategy and when thing are not going his way he becomes irrational and tries to use brute force rather than battle wit to win. That's his main flaw, he goes in head first without assessing the situation ahead of him. It was mentioned in the manga IIRC, that his actions in relation to Hueco Mundo were very impulsive. He went in not knowing his enemies. He allows his emotions to cloud his judgement.
