View Full Version : Steroid Use...
... GOOD OR BAD?!
What do you think?
There was a program on channel five just now about steroid use and it centred on Greg Valentino, or as you might know, The man whose arms exploded, and what steroids have done to him. Also they spoke to Steve Michalik about what steroids have done to him. Bascially, Steve had four tumours, his liver was dissolving, a heart attack, a stroke, a testosterone level of a 12 year old girl and testis the size of peanuts after his ordeal. Greg was left with his right bicep shaped like two hills side by side, with a depression in the middle.
Effects in the short term from steroid use include acne, having to use the toilet to excrete a lot and the main one, enhanced muscles.
Long term effects include heart attacks, your ateries hardening, your liver dissolving, strokes, infections.
I personally think steroid use is bad because of the effects it has on you in the long term as well as the short term.

Isn't it obvious ? well I myself find it very obvious, of course it is bad, the side effects negatively harm you in different ways diminshed testicles, disgusting hairgrowth, acne and so on. Those who think that steriods are good are those who I believe strengthens their self-confidence, or find it beneficial somehow.
I say no to steriod-utilizing

Steroid use is for weak people that cant gain their own muscle or pride so therfore they need drugs in order to succeed at this.. Who would think that the use of it is good in anywhere but medicine?

steroids are bad if used to enhance your skills in a sport
steroids are good for hospitals to help recover patients faster

Greg's arms got like that from synthol, not steroids.
Most, if not all IFBB pros use steroids.
If you know how to use them wisely, the side effects aren't that bad at all.
By wisely, I mean don't use them until after you've reached your full genetic potential.( which would take many years of training)

Not just steriods, but any additional supplements are imo bad. They also show a sign of weakness in my eyes, but not everyone agrees on that.

The training professional athletes get is pretty much the same regardless of where you go. In the Olympics people from different corners of the globe win by hair-thin margins. This encourages athletes to try anything that might give them the slight edge that will make them win. Steroid and supplement use turns sporting competitions into contests to see who has the better chemicals, and really it takes away from the spirit of competition.

Steroids in my opinion, of course is bad. I don't see it as a good use in any term to be honest, all it does is make your life easier, and talk about the negative side effects later on. Does that sound good at all? I think not.

I beg to differ. Steve won 22 titles by natrual training, then used steroids and all those side effects I mentioned in my first post occured. If they had not helped him he would be dead. Same with greg valentino, if he had not gone to a&e after trying to operate on himself he would be dead.

What's wrong with legal supplements ? I use legal supplements, I see nothing wrong with that. Healthy and no side effects and they're a great help in training (not as great as many would think, but still).

I said MOST use steroids. Do you think 8 time Mr. Olympia Ronnie Coleman didn't work hard to achieve his his goals? He used steroids, and he is a beast. Big,strong, and healthy.
I forgot to edit the quote. I meant only to put the 'If you know how to use them wisely, the side effects aren't that bad at all.' bit in. Because with steroids, no matter how you use them, from themoment you use it, it starts to affect you immedietley. By improving muscles as well but also by hardening your arteries, increasing your risk of major heart disease. Look at Arnold Scwarchanegger, he had major heart surgery a couple of years ago due to his steroid use.

Yes, steroids do have their flaws, but lets face it. Being Mr. Olympia now is unachievable without steroids.
It is impossible to get to Ronnie Coleman and Jay Cutler size without them.
The side effects are bad but, once you reach your genetic potential(which you won't unless you've been training for decades), what will you do?
The only way to get bigger at that point is steroids.
I'm not with steroids nor against them. I personally wouldn't do it but, I understand some of the people that do choose that path.
Also, steroids don't make your muscles bigger, just increase your testosterone.
