Now that MMA is fairly popular (I think) I thoughd I'd start this thread. Your thoughts on the sport ? Favorite fighter ? Have you competed in MMA/or planning to do so ? What got you into the sport ?

Anyways im planning to compete in the next few years, I've been training in Muay thai for quite some time now so my standup is ok, gonna start Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu soon also so I can survie on the ground. My favorite fighters are Fedor, Cro Cop and Wanderlei. What got me into the sport ? My brother started training years ago, and started fighting, eventually I too got interested. Also you get alot of fighting experience which is good for self defence, but defineatly not the main reason why im interested.

For those new to the sport, heres a nice highlight video.

I wish I'd noticed this topic earlier -- shame I'm just coming across it now.

I, for one, am a devoted fan of MMA. I have been for a number of years now; "diehard," "hardcore," or whatever other label there stands to be to classify my sort of fandom of the sport, it would likely be fairly accurate.

I personally don't compete, myself. I'm a lover, not a fighter. xD Sort of... Well, mostly I'm just not inclined to being punched in the face. I have done a little boxing here and there -- nothing professional and such, just taking classes to learn how to punch and get in shape and all. I'd also love to start training Brazilian jiu-jitsu actually, but unfortunately for me there's no available gym or avenue for me to do so in the town I live.

That aside, it doesn't stop me from loving mixed martial arts, though.

As for myself, I guess I sort of largely owe my interest in the sport to a friend of mine, who brought it to my attention about two and a half years ago or so. I started out relatively interested, and subsequently it's just snowballed from there. One of these days I'll get around to heading down to Vegas and catching a live UFC event or something.

Favourite fighter wise, as everyone is likely bound to have some, I've always been a huge fan of Jens Pulver, Evan Tanner, Jason Miller, Georges St. Pierre, and Josh Barnett. As a matter of point, I'll basically be pumped to watch anything in any of the weightclasses 170 pounds and down, though, 155 and 145, in my opinion, being by far the best divisions in MMA. Nothin' beats the pace of the little guys.

UFC 75 will be free on Spike TV on september 8, so remember to check it out if your interested, this a good chance to see some great fight for free. For those who don't have Spike TV (like me), you can download TVU Player (http://www.tvunetworks.com/) and watch it on your computer.
