Shadowlands and bleach: very similar stories? O.o

I was reading bleach and it remined me of another comic i read once.

I was rereading it and noticed many similarities

both have masked evil beings, who are souls who have fallen.

Both have beings of death named Shinigami

Both have a place where dead souls seem to live a normal life (they have a school in shadowlands).

Now I seriously doubt either person has copied the other, but they both seem similar in an aspect.

Only in background though not in story.
