Didnt know where else to put this thread, but I have a question for CB-ers.
Anyone here collect/read comic books often?
Im looking to start collecting/reading them on a regular basis, and wanted to know if anyone could help me out with a good place to start. Maybe a couple of series I should check out.
Im open to anything.
Thanks for the help :Domo

It very interesting and it is worth reading. =D
Though this is my opinion, maybe you don't like it. ^__^
My boyfriend is more of a collector than I am, but I read comics quite a lot - not as much as regular books, but...
Maybe you could be a bit more specific? What kind of comics are you interested in? I'm assuming you're not looking for manga titles. So is it just any good comics, or titles from a specific genre? Strips series or long, ongoing stories?
Anyways, I'd recommend Neil Gaiman's Sandman series for anyone interested in modern fantasy. In ten volumes, it tells the story of Dream of the Endless, a God-like being who rules the world of dreams and stories (featured in my avatar feeding pigeons, btw).
Jeff Smith's The Bone, also ten volumes, is an interesting, very original and humorous fantasy that grows to become an epic tale of - well, friendship, bravery and saving the world, I guess, but trust me, it still IS original.
Transmetropolitan by Ellis, Robertson & Ramos is a weird political satire that mostly follows the life of one Spider Jerusalem, a free-lance journalist with an attitude problem, in corrupt, futuristic world.
Watchmen, by Alan Moore, is a depressing stand-alone story of super heroes with all kinds of problems, mental and otherwise. Very good
For good, but not too dark super hero stories I would recommend Top Ten, from the same author. Only two volumes on sale, plus some spin-offs. Basically portrays the everyday routine of a police department in a city where every resident has super powers.
And also from Moore: From Hell. The story of Jack the Ripper reconstructed, a lot better than the movie based on it, if you can get over the horrific drawing style. Interesting details about freemasonry, a very stylish portrait of Victorian era.
Then Frank Miller & Dave Gibbons: Give me liberty. America gone horribly wrong.
Moore's (again) V for Vendetta. Same themes, different angle, and situated in Britain. And again a lot better than the movie.
I could name more, but I'm not sure if that's at all what you're looking for.
This thread could maybe have gone to the Writing and literature, but then again, what do I know.
I used to collect them. I like I have about 40 right now. If you want to collect, go to flea markets. You can get old comics for just a few dollars. I got a 40 year old comic for 4 bucks.

I collected the older Super Girl and Wonder woman comics, it was a great collection...But I had to sell them when we moved, I never really did get a good reason out of my mom.
Now I'm collecting the newer Super Girl comics, and some of the Marvel comics, like Spiderman.
