"Hikikomori", "Slices & Dices" and "Busan(Pusan) City" are hotlinks to the wiki...weird how u cant see it in this forum's background...

all written and translated by nzrock (spent like 30~45min doing this -.-)
It was reported a korean 15 year old school boy murdered his grandmother(69 years old) by beating her to death. his motives were coz his grandma was worried and didnt want him to go to the netcafe everyday and not go to school. Teens in korea these days are massively addictive to video games, and are either going to net cafe everyday and stay over night or lock them selfs up at home and play on the computer everyday. the korean police investigated these symptoms is like the same as the japanese's Hikikomori (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hikikomori), where one confined them selfs inside homes(in this case internet cafes) and would reject all meanings of outside lifes. The boy beated her grandma to death at around 6am May 23rd, he beated her head repeatably intill the blood vessel poped. and after that hid her body in the bathroom, abandoned it for 2 days unsure what to do with the corpse. then he came back at around May 25th 12pm and tryed and cut the corpse up in pieces and cover it with clothings, bed sheets and such, and also it was reported he was attempting to burn the corpse pieces. These murder symptoms are kinda like the japanese's Slices & Dices (http://www.wsmv.com/news/13320726/detail.html) murder cases, and it was also reported that he asked on the Internet on how to do these "Dismemberment Slayings" and "Corpse Pieces Dumping" methods(read the article at wsmv.com). the body was discovered yesterday 27th by other family members(or i think actruly the 28th mayb...). the suspect lived in Busan(Pusan) City (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Busan,_South_Korea) of the *Busan Region, the 2nd biggest city in korea.

Oh dear, that's horrible. There seems to be heaps of cases these days, by Koreans (Not to offend any of you Koreans!) its a pity. His grandmother was only thinking for his own good.

OMG! I cannot believe that someone would kill someone, simply because of what they saw in a video game. No-one could be that stupid, could they?

People in today's country with proper civilisation now lack the nature to protect themselves :( If a grandma really wanted to beat up a kid surely she can do it without problem...

It's bascially like if a dog attacked you, would you:

a)Wrestle it?

b)Knock it to the ground and run?

c)Run and hope it dosen't catch up?

So...wait...your telling me that Humans with so much more muscle and is much bigger than them can not beat the dog up?(If the dog is a really big one I would pity your luck:))

There are already placing stricter Laws on online gaming within Korea and China I believe. Something like if they play too much, they would place a buff to "weaken their character" (if they are playing a RPG like WoW) or just shut them off.

Aw damn, freaking crazy. Sure sometimes we've all had moments when we'd get annoyed by are parents walking in on us when we're really engrossed in our games, but nothing's gone this far. His grandma was just trying to protect hims from himself.

Wow, East Asians are getting so addicted to online computer games and such. It's happening in Taiwan as well. It's really depressing to think someone would so such thing just so they can play his computer game.

still remember just a week ago, that there was a 25-yr-old guy who killed his baby because she crawled over his wire and the game shut off? great world we live in guys. the more advanced the technology, the sooner we face doom.

there was some korean kid that stayed in an internet cafe gaming for 2 straight days or something without food and sleep and died of heart attack too. that was a couple of years ago i believe.

Another good argument for everyone who is blaming computer games for all the evil in the world. I don't know how that problem looks somewhere else, but in my country, its a very popular subject. All those psychologists (mostly old hags who wouldn't differentiate Doom 3 from Tetris) are talking in some talk - shows and on news: the kid killed because he was playing video games, this is all fault of video games creators, they shouldn't produce brutal games - etc. Cool, but why doesn't someone think about what parents can do? Maybe spedning some time with theyr kids, or looking what sort of games do theyr own kids playing. That could prevent kids from getting addicted to computer games. Yet I must admit, that MMO games are a serious problem. If someone know that is only the game, and has a REAL life, then everything is ok, but if borded between real life and game are getting thin, then such a person needs help. I think that MMO games should be only selled to people who are 15+ years old. In this age, kid has developed some real life, got friends with who he can hang out, so there's less probability, that he got addicted, and do some crazy shit.

Well, grandma of that kid is now free from any doubts about the dead. Niech spoczywa w pokoju.

Its not the video game's fault, as usual, but the person playing them. This boy obviously had problems before and after playing the game, and if he was treated before the murder, none of this probably would have happened.

Paladyn_Rage
06-09-2007, 01:14 AM
True. But he's problems could be noticed earlier, if the parents would be care more about him. Its problem related to current style of living in most countries. I don't exactly know how is the situation in other countries, but in Poland, we have the same problem. People are focusing on carrer, making money, etc. The biggest paradox, that they doing it for they kids, because they want to provide them with everything they need, and to help them in future, when they will grown up, and needs some cash to begin they own life.
I think people should find a "golden center", a ballance between work and time for family.
Oh well, now I'm wiseass, but probably when i will establish my own family, It wont be so easy...

Well, better do not disturb your friends, when they're playing some MMO's.

Yeh, well shit happens. The kid was fucked up in the head, it had nothing to do with the games. If he was going to murder someone that easily without any real reason, then it would've happened sooner or later... for any other reason.

"What's that? No ketchup?!" -kid kills the chef-

So yeh, don't blame games. Blame the morons that are willing to kill for them. Funny how games are thrown into the fire, when people are being killed daily over things such as religion and land. Psh.

When I saw the title of the thread I was expecting one of those things where adults blame games for murder, but this is insane. The guy's a loony. His addiction definitely should have been delt with before it escalated this far.

it's damn kids like those that add fuel to Jack Thompson's fire. i guess for that Korean kid self-control isn't in his dictionary.

ok this is what im gonna say about this
video games DO NOT TURN PEOPLE INTO MURDERERS
thought they may give people ideas on how to carry out such acts
they do not MAKE them become murderers
it is implanted in a childs brain way b4 that
this kid obviously had social problems
also had many serial killer characteristics, also characteristics of someone who gets the real world and the game world confused
this person was gonna end up killing someone whether he played video games or not
what this kid did was unforgivable, and he should take 100% of the responsibility
blaming and excuses are for people w/o morals
the fact that he beat his own grandmother to death, tryed to cut her into peices, and burn the peices makes it 10000 times worse
he should be given the death penalty w/o waiver

(btw, I'm Korean).
He must have just believed in it too much. Video Games are alright at a limit. But over that limit, There's another murder.
I offer my condolences to the family, And hope they get over it.
The kids needs to be punished.

Paladyn_Rage
06-10-2007, 12:21 PM
Yet the death penalty is a little overstatement IMO. Yeah okay, he killed his grandma, and tried to get rid of evidences, and that proves that he was fully aware of what he was doing.
Yet he's fifteen years after all. Underaged kids doesn't take full responsibility for they crimes just because they're kids. Its because he still groving up, and he dont have fully developed psychic nor the personality.
And there is still hope for reclamation, if the psychologists will work hard on him. Yet I agree, that he need to be isolated from society, until he will be ready to go back to normal.

That's sick 0.0". But i don't think you can blame video games. That boy was just mentally retarded.
