It was my second language in school but unfortunately dropped it in 9th grade because of this disturbed insane French teacher I had. She was EVIL!!!! =O

C'est encore plus simple quand on est né dans une famille où on parle français, néerlandais, allemand et anglais :winking56

To the people having a hard time translating :

It's even easier when you were born in a family where they talk French, Dutch, German and English.
Going to a Dutch primary school first then entering a French college helped a lot too I guess. ^_^

well, i wasn't raised in a european family :lol
So, it's hard for me to speak French.
But in Spanish, I still learn the basics.

ah, j'ai vit a Paris, il est tres difficille a parle un francais a la personne française indigène parce que ils parle a tres rapide et nous non parle rapide francais ne comprenez pas.
M- oui oui. Quel sport montre tu regarde, a la sports olympiques?

I don't find it difficult to understand someone who is from Paris that speaks French fluently (when I hear it). In Quebec, they mostly speak slang words. I've met someone from Paris who asked me where was this shopping mall. Since I had a hard time to speak French, I came with her to show the shopping mall and I only spoke the words I know. She didn't understood what I said in French, but we both worked it out :lol What a funny experience that was :rolleye09

French is a difficult language to learn, so don't worry, you'll eventually learn it if you practice it well by trying to talk to people whose mother tongue is French. You'll assimilate a lot that way, by deducing the meanings of each word you hear. Bonus, you'll even get the correct pronunciation! At least if they don't have some freaky accent that makes it hard to understand... But you've already understood that apparently. ^_^

As for this thread, I'd be glad to help people by talking to them in French. :lol

@ chaosadept: I'm from Belgium too ^^ So I'm kinda raised with French and English also

It's easy when you learn French on a young age (but that is with most things) but I think the hardest is to make the switch from your own laguage to French ... and understanding is indeed easier :p

I've learned French for 3 years. So i can get the minimal gists of all your french posts.

Now let me show you all my crappish french skills:

Salut, Je m'appelle Scorch. J'habite en Australie.

i think i did most of that right. Remember, Australia speaks English so...theres hardly any practising except in the classes in school.

That reminds me, i've got to do a vocab and oral test in French on tuesday. But Year 9 french ain't hard. in year 10 its gets a lot harder...

chaosadept

Yup, you did it all right! ^_^

Good luck on your test! :winking56

Lol..I can understand everything you guys are talking about but my grammar is a bit rough. Like mike said, french is a very easy language if you can remember the tenses.

The words are fairly easy but it's the grammar that complicates the sentences.

J'ai apprendu Français pour 4 années. Mais je ne l'ai pas utilisé depuis 2004, parce que j'ai fait mon bac. Alors, ma grammaire est terrible. Mais ça suffit pour parler un peu ^^.

M-50
06-03-2007, 12:17 PM
Did you just say, I have known french for four years. but i do not us it since 2004 because i ... also my grammer is terrible. but it is sufficient to talk with people.
if you did yay.

oui oui. Moi grammaire c'est tres terrible alors, mais j'ai parle c'est exactement basic francais.

Kaname : Ah, very good! But it's "appris" instead of "apprendu" and "pendant" instead of "pour". But that doesn't really matter, if you say that in France or Belgium they'll understand. :)

M-50 : The "bac" is in fact a shorter word for "baccalauréat", it's the name given to the final exams in the last year before entering university. ^^

u also never got the hang of using the imperfect LOL

Nicole
06-05-2007, 06:42 PM
Okay. There is a story about that.

In HS. I started learning French my freshman year. I took French II my sophmore year. Because of the shortage of people interested in taking the language, I skipped a year and went all the way to French IV. Needless to say, I totally skipped learning imperfect, so I kinda had to wing it.

But yeah. It's been a pretty good while, since I pretty much lost almost all interest in the language, therefore not using it for a good year at least. :)

*Je ne passais pas

I was shooting for plusque parfait. ;_;
