Editorial

Hey there again guys! Sorry for the late publish date. We've got a few suprises lined up this issue that makes up for it. The CBNL has successfully been running for 1 whole year. More on that in our feature article. On with the suprises.

We've got a couple of new sections which make their debut appearance this issue. Make sure to check out the 'Ask CBNL' and 'Narutomania' section to find out more :lol

The staff at CBNL give you a challenge! Your task? Check out the 'Introducing CB Members' section. There's an inverted cover with many CBNL staff members. There are quotes below. You have to match the quote with the staff member haha. To make it more interesting, admin, s-mods, mods and the Gotei 13 aren't allowed to participate :P. You have 2 days. Contest ends 6th of June 2007. First 5 people to guess most of them correctly will win:

Just running around after people and organising things is hard work so we'll be running things a little differently. We have editors Evanesque and Lolable. Lemme introduce you to another new editor: SHiKaMaRi. For the upcoming issues, we'll be dividing tasks between staff and editors so that people like me don't get overwhelmed. And while we're on the subject of changes, for the next few NLs, your other editors will grace the editorials. It's come the time where I have to give most of the load to the staff because it's my final year in high school and gotta study my tush off lmao. You'll still see me around for sure, doubt I can stay away for too long haha. This is my last editorial, for now.

Hope you guys have a fun time reading this month's NL. Look forward to more interesting things next issue, where we will give you an Entertainment issue, with a lot more reviews + some of your favourite sections. Ja ne.

The Club Bleach Newsletter Anniversary Special

Wow, so we’ve made it to our one year anniversary! How awesome is that? I still remember when the CBNL Project took off, it was still a pretty small thing, with a few followers but now it’s grown to a huge spread with plenty of loyal readers. What started as a measly thread in the 9th Division has grown to its own section in Town Hall and its very own staff, comprising of valuable members throughout CB.

The CBNL has gone through 3 editor-in-chiefs before I stepped in. For the creation of CBNL, we have Sarteck to thank, the first editor-in-chief and the original 9th Division captain. When Sarteck had to leave us, our fukutaichou of the time, Sanzora stepped in and became our Taichou and 2nd editor-in-chief. Soon also she had to leave us. Yoruichi-sama moved up positions and became our next Taichou and 3rd editor-in-chief. And soon real life issues took her time away from CB. She stepped down in her positions and is now an editor and proud member of the Vaizards. Oh let’s not forget Ai in the mix haha. That leaves me. Moved up positions and became editor-in-chief. At first, it was a shock but I’ve slowly become accustomed to the system, helping others with ideas, editing articles, doing the layout, doing editorials, articles, running after people etc. :P

The CBNL used to just have articles which had to do with CB but we decided that this newsletter could include other articles which will attract readers’ attention. Now, we can have so many random articles but that doesn’t stop! We’ve come a long way from NL #1 and I’m proud to have been part of the CBNL for this long. I hope to still be part of it for a long time to come.

You’ve just read about what I think this one year anniversary was like for me. For this special, we have 5 other members who have a great impact on the CBNL. 2 members who’ve been supporting the CBNL since Day 1, Yoruichi-Sama and Ai, and 3 of our newer 9th Division CBNL members, fukutaichou Planeswalker, Officer Commander SHiKaMaRi and Evanesque, the 9th’s 1st seat and CBNL Editor.

A Month ago I realized something, its been a year for me here in CB and what more next month-this month- its going to be CBNL's 1st Anniversary.

I was asked by Shaz, the current editor in chief to write an article about what I think of CBNL ,the differences b/w the last issue and the first one, its development..etc.

But the thing is, I don't have the time and I don't want to bore you =p so I am going to keep it short, hopefully.

As an editor now and an ex editor-in-chief, I feel satisfied when I read all the comments following the publish of any issue , it means all the time and work we did ,didn't go to waste and the work Sarteck started with the 1st Issue didn't die. No,it continued and flourished into amore enjoyable and varied form. Besides, we have more people contributing to the NL (The new staff and the 9th Div members).


So,thank you all for your work and Thank you (the one who is reading this) for taking the time to read this..Oh,and if you have any feed back don't hesitate to mention it,only if its positive =p.


How The Newsletter Has Traumatised My Life

I joined the 9th div about 4 days after I joined the forum, Having used a contact to get inside and it was with great anticipation that I watched the first newsletter being made and put to "print"..Unfortunately it was during that time that Sarteck kept me out of the first newsletter as it was too late for me to put anything into it..And he probably didn't trust what I would put into it...How right he was..Since then I've tried my darnest to get a porno section put in the newsletter but to no avail..

*Ai sighs...*

I'll get it one day.

Anyhow...When the newsletter was first put to print it was made with the idea of being a source of all the best that clubbleach has to offer..stuff like interviews with important people, Information on upcoming projects and events which would shape the forum..Or simply funny stuff like the comics.

Now nearly one year after it was first made the newsletter is stronger and better then ever..Having gone through 3 editors to make it to the 14th issue it has shown the diversity of clubbleach to it's max and one of the driving agenda's that has been in the CBNL staff is that all idea's are welcome and they're only stupid if we can make fun of the person who made the idea..:p..

But the newsletter has changed alot..It used to just be a few announcements from important people and a comic and an interview or two as well as some ads..But now it's so much more..Regularly people are being interviewed...Facts are being found out...Articles are being written and the mundane and ordinary is being turned into the extraordinary under the skillful fingers of writers like Planeswalker and current editor Iladys'.

Now with the 14th edition coming out the newsletter is going to experience another drastic change with more then one forum on the agenda..Hopefully in the future the Clubbleach newsletter will break free from the confines of a single forum and launch itself head long into the world wide web baring it's teeth with the staff at the helm ready for anything the world throws at it.
Though I havent been there since the beginning, Ive been with the newsletter for a very long time now. Ive seen it grow and evolve into what it is today. It started out as a bunch of small articles, mostly about the forum with an anime review here and there. Today it branches out to anything and everything and has a cover on the odd occasion. Its repsonsibility has moved through very capable hands (Sarteck, Sanzora, Sarah, Sanzora again and now iladys) and is very precious to the history of 9th. With staff now being gathered from every division, I wish it to become an important part of CB's history.
As you all know, the Club Bleach Newsletter, also known as the CBNL is one of the successful major projects of CB.

When I was first introduced to CB sometime in July last year, I had no idea that the NL even existed. And I’m serious. All I thought was- Hey! I’m getting bored. Why not join a division?

I took a good look at rules for each div, and thought that the others were just too troublesome. Essays of 200 words, meh. Too hard. With that attitude, I stuck with ninth that I believe was the easiest to enter, and applied for it.

Amazingly, I was accepted and admitted to the division.

When I first saw a thread in the ninth labelled ‘Club Bleach Newsletter #?’ or something similar to that, I was just… Confused, I guess. What on earth was the CBNL? Some weird… thing of which they post monthly that I’m just not interested in, I had thought then.

I was a bored little kid then, and had nothing to do. After torturing the poor darling Yoruichi_Sama (I think it was) with 10 or so PM’s on what topic I could do and if my article was acceptable, I submitted it into the thread.

Considering how it was my very first time writing an article to the CBNL, I was quite nervous, believe it or not. I was afraid that a random user would criticize on my writing and make a fool out of me, or just having others think its utter crap.

But it was the opposite- I received comments of encouragement, which really raised my spirits. And by the next issue, I was an insane woman, completely absorbed into the CBNL.

…And then I understood why the ninth bothers to go on with the project, and why CBNL was such an important project of CB itself.

I worked on it when I had the time to, whether it may be school or home… and some friends who I had asked for criticism for said that I was just stupid.

It was only a mere forum, why would other members even bother to read your articles? It’s a waste of time, they had said. It’s not as if they would learn anything from it.

Wrong. Every single newsletter of which is release have always taught me something new, whether it may be on computer technology or a random word in the dictionary picked.

As each issue was released, more and more members became interested in it, and wanting to contribute, other members made their own articles and submitted it to the editors. Gradually, the CBNL grew larger and larger, resulting in the new forum section, the Club Bleach Newsletter HQ.
The Club Bleach Newsletter (CBNL) is one of the major projects on Club Bleach and is the sole domain of 9th division. .

Personally, CBNL was the first and most challenging task I’ve undertaken since graduating from the academy.

I’d joined CB in June 2006 and remember seeing the NL in that very same lounge where it sits every month. To me, things were different back then because I didn’t quite understand what the NL was meant for.

I used to think about real life newsletters at educational institutes and workplaces and found it odd to have an online newsletter. However, what shattered my disbelief were the readers. I never imagined something like this would have a range of audience.

This made me want to examine the newsletter more to understand what it was that attracted so many readers like bees to honey. Upon entering the thread, I understood that the newsletter was just like any other real life one except that it was more interactive and liberal.

It wasn't restrained in anyway. People had the freedom to say what they want, unlike real media these days whose voices are always muffled.

Times have passed.

After being recruited by the 9th, I realised my place was here. As the current editor of the CBNL, I am proud to have the honour to bring CB members’ entertainment and make sure they have the best read around the forum.

Being an RL trainee journalist myself, the NL to me is somewhat of a training ground where I can be free and write to my heart’s content.

Sarteck, founder of the 9th, had trusted us with the NL. He strove to preserve the joy of reading and to provide a platform for members to interact with one another and this is what we have been doing for a year. This is what we aim to do for as long as we can...

And that is just my beginning with the NL...

Vaizards vs. Arrancar

Not but one week ago, a disturbance errupted that rained cataclysmic chaos throughout the land, in a feirceness that would scold the eyes of those who dared look upon the devastation that was begining to unfold. A collective organisation, known only by the name of the Vaizard's; declared war against their more than equal counterparts, the Espada.

The Vaizard's self-presumed stand-in leader, DragonBlade, inniciated the assault against the Espada by attacking their pride directly. DragonBlade forced the Espada's otherwise pleasant usergroup colour, from placid purple into a horrifying pink. Aghast by what appeared to be a breach in the peace treaty, the Espada sent the Arrancar as an immidiate counter attack in defence of their own pride. In attempts to fight off the Vaizard's attacks against the Espada, several Arrancar and a select few of the Elite Espada's were despatched with orders to cause as much damage to the Vaizards as could be mustered.

Members of the Vaizards' organisation, such as:
Seto, Rikku, Jaran, Project, Sandal Hat and DragonBlade himself all felt the eternal chill of the Espada as their retaliation broke out. Avatars, signatures and custom usertitles were the Espada's choice of attack. Several of the Vaizards were thrown into confusion upon finding various alterations to their signature's, avatar's, usertitles and username colours and fonts. Their obvious and truthfull confusion presented evidence that the actions taken upon the Espada by the Vaizard's was obviously not an orchestrated plan of attack beknown to the members of their faction.

After the opening play made by the Vaizard's and the subsequential retaliation from the Espada, the chaos did not stop there at a simple 'Eye for an Eye'.

By using his powers of Administration, DragonBlade manipulated his own personal user options in order to grant himself complete immunity from all possible future alterations that might occur to his account through the use of the vbPlaza menu.
Distrought and outraged at the gall and audacity of the Vaizard's unprovoked attacks, and further mortified at witnessing the damage incurred to his Unit's morale; Z_Blitz took it upon himself to right the wrongs.

The following evidence, depicts the results of a war sparked from a mad, moment of blindness;

As equally as DragonBlade had made alterations to the permissions of the vbPlaza, to ensure his own safety from the Espada's counter-attacks; Z_Blitz passed immunity over all 10 Espada and the Arrancar from every status change possible within the vbPlaza.

Fight fire with fire, is the basic strategy to winning a war.

After the chaos and melodrama of the initial attacks raged across the forums, and lulled into a quiet hush, the Espada were willing to reiniciate the peace treaty held between the 2 factions. After a period of quiet, when to him it seemed as though the feirce fight had finally disolved, Z_Blitz removed the descriptions cleverly edited into the Vaizard subforums, and made vein attempts to remove the descriptions from their usergroup, but was hastilly beaten to the action by Sandal Hat, who nobly reverted the Vaizard's back to their original status.

Avatar, signature and custom usertitle manipulation, continued to rage back and forth in a battle between the Vaizard's and the Arrancar sent out by the Espada as their first line of defence. Within a short space of time during the avatar and signature altering catastrophe, DragonBlade awoke from a rested slumber, and refused to co-operate with the Espada in resigning the initial peace treaty.
He chose instead to make an attempt to entirely irradicate the Espada from Club Bleach by deleting the newly-formed "Espada" usergroup, and wiping Hueco Mundo out of existence.

Having no place to turn now, with Hueco Mundo seemingly lost forever; the remaining Arrancar took up arms for the Espada, and having taken the attack personally this time, sought out justice. When the Arrancar' attempted to fight back, DragonBlade's swift and premeditated actions left Z_Blitz without access to the AdminCP. This meant that his loyally devoted Espada and Arrancar followers, would be cannon fodder for the Vaizard should another attack break out at this time.

In that very same short space of time, Z_Blitz managed to temporarily grant all the Arrancar's access to Karakura City in order to fuel the havoc from within the Vaizard organisation's core. Z_Blitz almost managed to ban every last Vaizard from their own place of residence, but due to DragonBlade’s ever closefull watch, his goal was drawn short and everything was reverted back to normal in a matter of moments as though nothing had ever happened.

So I ask you here and now, not as an Arrancar, nor as a Vaizard, but as a member of your community, of Club Bleach.

I have witnessed the events of the past few days in their entirety, and stand here before you now, bearing truth and facts of the events that have smashed the leading forces of the 2 Divisions to the core.

I ask you this; Who is the true root of evil?

Vaizard vs. Arrancar

Some days ago, an extraordinary set of events occurred. Where the lives of members were put on the line, where their reputations, avatars and titles were at stake, all for one goal, all for one chance, all for one moment.

It begin with a surprise, with no warning came no preparation. The planning had gone on for some time now, and the execution was perfect. Well, at least, DB's mouse was ready to click. And at the touch of a button, the Arrancars were to be shamed. They were to wear 'pink' around the forums now, showing their true colours. That Ulquiorra was not some emo warrior, but he was a misunderstood, confused person. That Grimmjow was not a man, but a woman, and so the Arrancar were to live in shame, for now...

But nay, Z would not have any of this, and chose to struck when we were least vulnerable, or to put it directly, when DB was offline. We were shamed naked. Our bolded names taken away. Our group font small to view, but once we posted, the name would be huge. Surely the Vaizards would strike back with force.

And so we were left, as stranded sheep with a lurking wolf, And to ice the cake, Z then changed the descriptions of Karakura City, and our section as a whole. 'To serve the Arrancar, risking life and limb' it said, and we were left in the lowest of low; below the Arrancar. We were at a harsh loss, and DB was offline.

BUT! FINALLY! DB! RETURNED! And the battle was now in our favour. The ball was in our court, and DB was the one to smash it back; Game, Set and Match. Total annihilation of the Arrancars. And so their group was deleted. DB, as forgiving as he is, chose however to recreate their group, in a sense of pity, or him just trying to keep his reputation. The group was again made, and our names were returned to their original fonts, colours and sizes. The groups were returned to their original descriptions, and all was left at where we started.

And so the eternal battle between Vaizard and Arrancar continues...

A word with the Principal

CBNL: Askand can you tell me a bit about your background before becoming the Shinigami Academy principal?
Askand: Well believe it or not I was just a nice little random person. My roots are on the Club Bleach Cafe and the Fight Thread along with Supersaiyamugen, Sessou (who had changed his name to Setsumasa) and Dread Raven. I eventually met Sacred-kun who invited me to apply for the 12th division when the old system was still running.

What else I can say....In the beginning I wasn’t that active so I came from time to time until I got in to the 12th up there I began to be very active and adopt the title of The Chef from the Division since I post menus on the cafe for my fellow div members

CBNL: i remembered the tagline better than chocolate and mouth to mouth lolz!
Askand: Oh my that was from the authory of Analog aka Dualshock and Alienor.

CBNL: So tell me how did u become the principal?
Askand: it was a petition of former VC Summer_faerie. Well I was sneaking on my job to chek for pm's when I received a pm from former 12th's division's captain Seto. He told me about being elected to become part of the Shinigami Academy for being active and not too spammy. By that time I wasnt that active on the Randomness area. I sticked more to the division and other places since I wanted to be more involved in the forum. One of those places where the writing and literature (which had another name by that time). so I kind of got to undust my pen and begin to write like a mad

CBNL: lolz so did u became a teacher first?
Askand: When the system began we all were teachers. It was one from each division, and we had to be together and make a training system. Ai just let us know what he wanted so we began from scratch.

CBNL: so what does a shinigami teacher teach?
Askand: Well basically our mission is to show the new members the do's and don'ts on the forum. We explain then how things are on the Gotei 13 and what to expect once they graduate. Also we test them on their knowledge and dispossition to follow the rules. Some of the contest maybe simple but the purpose is one that will really help them on their future life inside the Gotei 13.

CBNL: do teachers have favorites? lolz i just have to ask that.
Askand: *ponders* Thats a rules we have no one is a favorite on Shinigami Academy, we got respect or admiration but favoritism is a no no and forbidden.

CBNL: so as a principal what is your responsibility or responsibilities?
Askand: I know, most of the people might think of this. I cant speak for the others but I try to be as objective as possible. I lurk a lot and see them in silence. Unless is to share a nice topic or to interfere due to some rule broken I'm just the Academy's Ghost lol

Well right now, this position was created a couple of weeks ago. Since Ai saw that things were running smoothly on the Academy I just report him from time to time, the progress of the project and if there are new ideas to help. Since I think the one who communicates the most and is in charge of the applications well I just kind of got the spot.

As a principal, I got in charge of basically the heavy stuff like training schedule, applications, rejections, drop outs, any other paperwork for putting up like that

CBNL: oh i see how many staff does the academy have?
Askand: We have 7 members now, Tanya, Zenryoku, Pie, koushun, Kalliades, Thelindra and me.

Pie is taking a leave of absence so we are taking applications for the new teacher at the academy.

CBNL: yes I have seen the thread. hmmm drop outs you say. so t all of them graduate. do they re take classes?
Askand: Yeah sometimes there are students that feel is not the time or confronts situations that wont let them keep the training at Cb

CBNL: Do you take them in for the next batch?
Askand: If the reason they present is reasonable enough yes. If I see they are just fooling around I just advice them to pm me when they feel ready. Still there is a limit to how many times you apply to a class

CBNL: Any last words?
Askand: Well I guess is that I like what I do, and that if someone needs me just pm me. I'll try to do my best to help. It's my job now so I cant complain about it. LOL

Crumbled cookie: Hi, my problem is that I have this friend in RL who met a guy online and well she kinda fell in love with him. She hooked us together, since I am her best friend and all and I liked him very very very much.

Lately she hasn't been online a lot so the guy and I got to talk a lot together. He said something about dumping her and..well I know you might say it's only an e-relationship but we were supposed to meet him a month from now and he wants to meet me not my friend.

I dunno what to do? Should I tell her? I like him alot but I don't want her to get mad at me and mind you, she already has a bf...well not an "official" one but still...I dont know what to do, help? Should I tell her about me and him or should I ignore him?

Pretty screwed situation for you. Your friend sort of has a unofficial boyfriend in rl? If that's the case then I find it hard to believe she has fallen in love with the online guy.

Ok you have two options of direct confrontation. Both of these people seem to be playing the field here, so you could either tell your friend about you and the guy or you could tell the guy about your friend and her sort of unofficial boyfriend.

Neither option can really end well. People like to shoot the messenger. So let's try indirect confrontation. Basically you need to get your friend and/or the guy to reveal themselves to each other. With the guy you can say something along the lines of "If you really do like me then you would tell her".

To your friend...you need to test her commitment. Bring up this unofficial boyfriend in relation to the online guy and discuss the possibility of cheating. You need to do this very carefully. If you come on too strong they will know your bothered. If you can't get it subtle done in one go then do it over a period of time. If you can get them to admit these things to each other then it will reduce the undeserved stress placed on you.

Crumbled cookie: There's this girl in my class and I'm sooo jealous of her. I mean she's got everything - looks, brains and guess what? She's also pretty well off money-wise. The thing is that I think I'm not as good looking as her. Even though she tells me I look fine, I still can't help but be jealous of her.

She's one of my nicest friends and she's trusts me with everything. I don't hate her as a person but I hate the fact that she gets too much attention. I WANT ATTENTION. I want guys to look at ME when they talk to me, not stare at her -.-


Planesy's cookie solution: Hiya =D

This is difficult. Keep in mind that nobody is perfect, not even your friend. What you want is attention, but I'm not sure you have really thought about it. These guys all focus on her even when talking to you? That means they are shallow. Not willing to get to know the real you because there is a prettier face in the room?

Nobody needs the attention those guys can give. For a moment let's say you got what you wanted. You now have a bunch of fickle guys staring at your body, concuting ways to get closer to you and ultimatley "score". They don't want to know your personality. They don't care about your thoughts. You're just a piece of pretty meat to them.

If you still want their attention with that in mind then good luck, but I don't think your scenario is all that bad.

Keyblade War RP Interview

CBNL: Hiya, could you please introduce yourself.
Zansatsu: The name's Zansatsu, and I'm the mod or something. lmao
EscaBlade: The names EscaBlade, obviously, though some know me as KFC (previously known as Killer Frost)

CBNL: Firstly, will you let us know what the Keyblade War is about?
Zansatsu: The Keyblade War RP is about the darkness present in everyone's heart, and how even the brightest of lights can be twisted and corrupted. Darkness also has a way of spreading, and influencing those not already under its claw...

There were once five beings of the most magnificent of lights. They watched over the worlds with care and kindness, casting their light to the far reaches of the universe, and thus creating an age of peace.

Darkness, however small, spreads and taints all things good, changing their very heart and soul. Two of these beings were tainted by the darkness, which drove them insane, causing them to betray their fellow sovereign.

A war broke out between light and darkness. During this great battle, one of the sovereign of light fell victim to the darkness...

The two dark sovereign then began to spread darkness to all worlds. To counter this act of treason, the two remaining sovereign of light chose a selected few to wield the Keyblade in order to vanquish the darkness. Things however, never go as plan, as they would soon find. The darkness was still too powerful, thus was the decision to send Keyblades to all worlds in the hope of raising an army of light to slay the darkness...

And that's where the RP picks off. A few years after the Illuminating Rain, or the coming of the Keyblades.

CBNL: How did you come up with the Keyblade War RP?
Zansatsu: Well, I'm a big Kingdom Hearts fan, and I was bored at the moment, so I thought about making my own RP for once... instead of just joining one.

CBNL: It’s pretty detailed. Did you get all of this from somewhere or did you create some of the abilities, skills etc.?
Zansatsu: Most of the Abilities, Skills, and Magic are straight from the game series. I did create some of my own however, and so has Frost (the new co-owner). Also, special thanks to Sky, who helped out with the original stats/ability system, as well as other things.

As far as the storyline goes. As you may or may not know, the term "Keyblade War" has been going around the Kingdom Hearts fandom. I took the concept of a war between Keybladers, and ran with it... twisting it along the way. >.>

CBNL: The RP has gotten some pretty good responses. You’ve got your own section now. How’s it feel to be the driving force behind this RP?

The Shutter Squad

It’s the newest team to hit CB, what exactly is the Shutter Squad? Who are they? What do they do?

The Shutter Squad goes by another name as well. If you’ve been around CB, you might have seen members with a ‘Photography Group’ usertag or signature. SS is just that, we were originally called the Photography Group but that was before we decided to have a vote on what we should be called.

So what is this group about? SS is basically for people who like photography. Of course, we expect you to be a photographer yourself, be it amateur or professional, and you gotta have an active interest in taking photos. SS has only been around for less then a month but we’ve been getting heaps of interested members. We thought we would have a maximum of 20 members first shot but now we have 21 members and we continue to grow.

SS was initiated by a group of members who wanted a place where they could view and post photographs, comment on them, give pointers, a place where they could interact with other photography enthusiasts.

Recently, SS has started a POTW (Picture of the Week) section where we pick a theme and members post one of their own pictures. Members who don’t participate get to vote for which one they like the most. Points are awarded to whoever wins.

Battle of Thermopylae

As the movie 300 gains the heart of millions, I can not help but to invest this story further more. For the next 3 issues, I'll be giving you a history lesson so read up :P

In August 480 BC, the Parisian Empire, as the largest Empire in the world at that time, after extended its hand to north Africa and large portion of India, sets its eye on the divided Greek city-states. Like what his late father, Darius the Great, had done, King Xerxes of Persia send messengers to each of every city-state of Greece asking for “earth and water”.

Many of the 700 Greek city-states feared the power of the Persian Empire and thus submitted. When the messenger of Xerxes got to Athens, he was killed instantly. When it arrived at the door step of Sparta, the messenger was not killed instantly, but was pushed down to a well to which King Leonidas of Sparta replied “Dig it out for yourselves”. This is quite irregular for the Athens and Spartans were hostile toward each other, it is no mystery.

Athens was, then, a newly formed Cleisthenes democracy, the center of human rights and philosophy and the sorts. It had an open mind, it accepts all whom wish to come to their city while Sparta was isolated; it only allows their own people to enter their realms. Also, Sparta was, to the Athens, bargains due to their blood lust government (Sparta was, in fact a large military school).

Anyhow, there was later a large congress assembled to discuss this matter. However, it was recorded that only 70 of the 700 city-states send its representatives. The congress met at Corinth in late autumn of 481 BC and formed a confederate alliance of Greek city-states. The confederate had the power to send envoys seeking for assistance and to dispatch troops from the member states to the defensive points during the up coming war.

Though the congress was headed by Athens and Sparta, the interests of all states were being considered (Good for them). They first encountered the Persians with the force of 10,000 Athenians and Spartan hoplites at the vale of Temple.

Upon hearing this, King Xerxes moves his army through another route, which was unguarded. The hoplites, warned by Alexander I of Macedon (Not Alexander the Great of Macedon), vacated the pass (I believes though the place was unguarded, does not meant there was no people in it).

With Xerxes passing them by, the Greeks set their next plan of stopping the Parisian at Thermopylae (which was like the gate to Greece), and they send a fleet to a naval choke point to stop Xerxes’ supply and reinforcements. Which also prevents Xerxes can once again avoid the Greeks by using the navy to get to the Greek land (which I highly doubt; there are quite a number of elephants in his army).

The alliance of Greek dispatched a small group of army to the pass of Thermopylae (also known as the Hot Gate); the army consists of 300 Spartans (with 900 Helios, their slave), 500 Mantineans, 500 Tegeans, 120 Arcadian Orchomenos, 1000 other Arcadians, 400 Corinthians, 200 Phlians, 80 Mycenaeans, 700 Thespians, 400 Thebans, 1000 Phocians, and 12 Opuntians Locrians, which adds to the total of more than 5,200 Greeks (not only 300).

There are number of debates regarding the exact size of the Persian army, Herodotus (a historian lived during the aftermath of the war) claims to be 5,283,220 men, while others claimed to be in the millions. But the number Wikipedia had given was 2,641,610 in total with 517,610 Fleet, 1,700,000 Infantry, 80,000 Cavalry, 20,000 Arabs and Libyans, and 324,000 Greeks that had surrendered.

because with cake, you can bake and mold it high and big however you want! yes you might also do it with the pie, but I think there'll be a little possibility for it though. With cake, you can use your own creativity and imagination as to how you want your cake to look good. not just look tasty and nice to the eyes of the eater. you can decorate it however you want, you can also use fruits and stuff as additives, unlike pie where you have to bake with a fruit or stuff. with pie it's just like a food on a plate. i don't know but that's what i think of it.

It is so easy to find a mediocre cake. Just go buy one at any grocery store. They are over-frosted in the attempt to mask the bland flavor. Hungry for dessert? Why would you go for a crumbly piece of cake when you could have a delicious piece of pie?

The sheer variety of pies should show its superiority over cake.

For dessert you could have a fruit pie- apple, cherry, raspberry, peach. Vegetable pies are also popular- like a nice rhubarb pie. Maybe you you enjoy a pumpkin or pecan pie around the holiday season. You could also want a delicious banana or chocolate cream pie (cream pies, by the way, have been a useful aid in comedy for years. Who hasn't seen a clown get a pie in the face?)
If you don't like dessert, then pies can still be for you. Fill a flaky pie crust with meat and vegetables and you've made dinner! Arguably, quiche and pizza-pie can also be put in the pie category.

For those cake-lovers, look at cheesecake! It isn't a cake at all, but a delectable pie often made with a graham cracker crust.

Birthday cake? Hah, when I was young I would ask my mom to make me birthday PIE! (true story.)

Sakura's Craft Corner

For the first time, Sakura will be dishing out her crafty knowledge in an attempt to make the world a better place.

This issue, I'll be going over how to make a straw lei. I've included an example below.

For those of you who aren't familiar with Hawaiian culture, a lei is traditionally a garland of flowers given to express feelings of aloha. However, you can also make a lei with artificial flowers, clay, beads, money and yarn. For a better description then I can give, you can go to the wikipedia link below.

In Hawaii, it's traditional to give people a lei at their graduation. It's quite common to see graduates walking around with leis piled up to the top of their head. An example would be my college graduation.

So, for those who want to give graduating friends and relatives something unique (if you don't live in Hawaii) this is a simple project that will last longer then fresh flowers.

Supplies:

- 42" length of 3/8" grosgrain ribbon in coordinating color.
- 2 skeins of specialty yarn in colors of your choice.
- 1 bubble drink straw
- small piece of masking or scotch tape
- scissors to cut ribbon and yarn

*optional* - 2 kukui nuts (with holes drilled on either end)

Substitutes

- 42" length of satin ribbon in coordinating color (for grosgrain ribbon)
- 1 twelve inch pvc pipe with a 1/2" diameter (for bubble drink straw)

*Note*

Using a straw with a wider diameter, more then 2 skeins of yarn and pushing yarn down tightly will make the lei fuller.

If you don't have access to any of the supplies, you can pm or email me and I'll see if I can ship them to you. You would have to reimburse me for the cost of supplies and shipping. I love helping people but I'm poor.

Step 1:

Thread ribbon through straw, tape a small portion of the ribbon to the top of the straw. Leave remainder of ribbon hanging freely from the bottom of the straw.

Step 2:

Take your specialty yarns and tie them to the ribbon at the base of the straw. Don't tie too tightly or you'll have trouble pushing the yarns down the length of the ribbon.

Step 3:

Hold the base of the straw with one hand. Take the yarns in the other hand and wind them around the straw. Wind the yarns around the straw (like winding thread back on its spool) until you reach 3/4 of the way up. Push the yarns down towards the base of the straw. Continue winding the yarns until you have just a little more then half of the straw filled. Push the yarns down onto the ribbon, leaving 1" of the yarns on the straw. Continue until you have 36" of the yarns on the ribbon.

Step 4:

Untape the ribbon on the top of the straw and pull ribbon out. Tie the loose end of the yarns onto the ribbon. Don't tie too tightly or you'll have trouble adjusting the yarns.

Step 5 *optional*:

Thread ribbon through kukui nut. Repeat on other side of lei. Tie a double knot on the open end of the ribbon to secure kukui nuts on the ribbon.

Step 6:

Fluff yarn and push down/pull up length of ribbon until satisfied with result. Tie each end of the ribbon in a double knot to secure the yarns on the ribbon.

Fallout Boy

This is a alternative rock band; from Wilmette, Illinois, which is actually a suburb of Chicago, Illinois, formed in 2001; have a wide variety of songs. They have an extremely large fan base.

They actually got their name when a fan yelled out 'Fall Out Boy' and they decided to keep it, Fall Out Boy is named after the sidekick of radioactive man in the simpsons. The lead singer is Patrick Stump, actually spelt Stumph, but the 'h' was removed due to pronounciation reasons, has been with the band since they started in 2001. He is the primary composer and rhythem guitarist as well as the main job of lead vocals. He hates to be called Pat because that is his mum's name and owns two hondas, one of which is a hybrid. The drummer Andy Hurley who was formerly in Racetraitor, joined the band when two other members quit in 2003. The guitarist Joe Trohman, also with the band since 2001, sings backing vocals. Pete Wentz, bass guitar, backup vocals and the primary lyricist, also joined in 2001. He is said to be dating Ashlee Simpson at the moment. He used to play soccer and has tried to commit suicide in a parking lot.

The group started in 2001 when Joe and Pete met Patrick and formed a band, with Partick becoming lead singer very soon. They had to bring in two other members, a guitarist and a drummer.

In early '02 the band debuted with a self released demo. Then in May, it was followed up with an EP that featured Project Rocket, which was entitled Split EP. 'Fall Out Boy's Evening Out With Your Girlfriend', the bands mini-LP was released in '03. Their first full length album, 'Take This To Your Grave' was released on May 6th 2003 which achieved Gold status. Then on May 3rd 2005 the band released 'From Under The Cork Tree' which reached number 9 in the album listing selling 68,000 copies in its first week. Overall the album has reaced double platinum status and has sold over 2.5 million copies in just the US! The video of the first single of the album, 'Sugar We're Goin' Down' reached number 1 on MTV's TRL and won the MTV2 Award at the MTV 2005 Video Music Awards. The band was nominated for the award of 'Best New Artist' at the 2006 Grammy's due to their newfound success. The video for the second single, 'Dance, Dance' also reached number 1 on TRL. I can add that it was also a hit in the UK being played on various music video channels such as KISS and TMF a lot of times.

The Nintendo Fusion Tour was headed by Fall Out Boy in autumn 2005.

Fall Out Boy's latest album, 'Infinity On High' was released on February 6th 2007 and was an instant success, selling over 260,000 copies of the album in its first week. 'This Ain't A Scene, It's an Arms Race' hit number 2 in the UK charts on February 4th 2007 which is their most successful single in the UK so far. The single also peaked on the US Hot 100 at number 2 and the US Pop 100 at number 1. 'Thnks fr th Mmrs' released April 9th 2007 peaked at number 12 in the UK charst, doing not as well as its predecessor. They are currently undergoing the Honda Civic Tour which ends in Anaheim, California. Paul Wall and Cobra Startship are also two other acts in the Civic Tour.

They have collaborated to produce a song with Timbaland which is on Timbaland's new album 'Timbaland Presents: SHOCK VALUE' entitled 'One and Only' in which both Patrick and Pete contributed with the lyrics. The band has been confirmed as an act in this years 'Live Earth' Concert section in the US taking place in the New Jersey Giants Stadium on July 7th 2007.

Death note!

Death note has only been out a few months but it has hit the anime fans like a storm, i intend to find out, what makes death note so damn good.

After watching all the episodes I think I can see what all this hype is all about. The basic storyline to DN is Light the son of the chief of the police who is a straight A student finds a book while at school called the "Death Note", like anyone would do he takes it home to see what its about, until he finds out that when you write someone’s name on it, they die within 40seconds unless otherwise stated. At first he refused to believe this until he tested it himself. So he finds himself after saying its fake so many times writing a thugs name in the book... and to his shock, he died within 40seconds. Now the fun begins, Light now uses the death note to kill criminals, to make the perfect world but the police don't like it and bring a new guy into the investigation to find out who Kira (The killer aka Light) really is, but unfortunately for Light, this new character is just as smart as him in which the battle of the brains begins.

Character Bios – To help you to get in the mood even more I thought I’d do some character bios as well.

Yagami Light/1st Kira

The main man of the series, a 17 year old lad who is a top a star student but he somewhat doesn’t enjoy being the top brain until Ryuk drops the death note into his school and he happens to stumble across it. When he finds out what it is truly used for, he decides to try and cleanse the world of all the criminals and bad guys with Light being the god and the supreme judgement of it all.

No one really knows much about L like his background or what his name is even, he just uses fake names like L, but I don’t think he just does that so that Kira can’t find his name out. Anyway L is a top notch detective who works for the police force, but he’ll only accept jobs that involve something ’Interesting’, fortunately for the police force he found the Kira Case interesting… his job is basically to find out who Kira is where is his and to contain him so he can’t kill anymore criminals. L thought it’d be a easy task, but it proves to be much harder than expected when he finds out Kira is just as smart as him.

N/Near

Later on in the series 2 other ‘geniuses’ one of which is Near (also named N). He was once an orphan from Watari’s Orphanage which is found out later that it is actually a school for gifted children. Near was one of the top candidates to become L’s successor if L ever failed. He is the head of the SPK (The secret provision for Kira) which is formed later on in the series as part of the police force, Near uses the name N when on SPK missions. He is often found sat fondling his hair or playing with toys, also like L he is found to sit in a weird manor of ways.

Mello

Mello is the second of the 2 ‘geniuses’ whom come from Watari’s Orphanage/School for gifted children, he was also the other candidate to become L’s successor. He is also after killing Kira but unlike Near or L, Mello try’s to do this in a different way by using violence, kidnapping and also using the mafia to his advantage. He is a very intelligent lad but his emotions often get the better of him unlike Near or L. Mello is usually found eating a chocolate bar which is also following L’s fondness to sweet stuff.

Amane Misa

Not really introduced to us till later on in the series, she is a very popular idol in Japan, so virtually everyone knows her and no one in a 100 years would of thought anything bad about her… she loves Kira and Light very dearly, its unfortunate Kira doesn’t feel the same way about her, of course she tries to make Kira love her but most of the time it doesn’t work.

Teru Mikami

Not alot of infomation is known about Mikami due to him being a reletivly new character, but of what we do know is later on in the series Kira sees it fit to choose a new 2nd kira because of other people being suspicious about the last 2nd kira. Aswell as Light he is a very smart lad whom was supposedly bullied at school when he was younger, and that caused him to want to kill all of the evil. Kira hand picked Mikami out of the 'Followers of Kira' and he was chosen due to his big intrest in Kira, since he was at all of the Kira press conferences.

Yagami Soichiro

Soichiro is the head of the Kira investigation team but what makes it even more interesting is he is also Light/Kira Father. He thinks very greatly of Light and he also hopes Light will join the police force and be able to take his place and would never once think that Light would indeed be Kira. The only downside to his job is he rarely gets a chance to go home and see his family, lucky for him his wife, light and light’s sister understands that and won’t question him about it.

Ryuk

Ryuk is the idiot shinigami(Death God) who ‘accidentally’ dropped his second death note book in a school… but it wasn’t really a accident he just did it for amusement and fun, lucky enough Light came along and picked the Death note up, but since Light was the new owner of his death note Ryuk must follow Light around. He has a terrible fetish for human apples which to him apples are like drugs, he often uses a lack of apples an excuse to not give Light info or to get Light to give him more apples.

Rem

At first sight its debateable whether Rem is male or female but quite late on into the series it is said she’s a female shinigami. She gives the death note and her shinigami eyes to the 2nd kira on purpose. Rem seems to also have 2 death notes, one which is her own and 2 which is from Jealous(yes a name not the emotion ^^). She gave it to the 2nd kira since Jealous once protected the 2nd kira at the cost of her life and Rem thought she would be the right owner for it due to that. Rem will also protect the 2nd kira even if it costs Rem her life, which meant she is quite sceptical to Light in which she made a deal with Light, if something ever happened to the 2nd kira then light would have to pay with his life.

The storyline is probably one of the best plots I’ve seen in an anime, and on top of that the action in it is amazing. Definitely a must see anime in my opinion of course the worst part about is waiting for the next episode to come out.

They should do gradientmaps, (in the layerpalette bottom, theres these icons - one of them leads to gradientmaps. When they chose a gradientmaps, they go blending modes and then mess with opacity. Also photofilters are good.

Spider Man 3 review

This film, of the actance genre; action and romance; with great action scenes and good romance involved.

This is the first trilogy's finale movie, with Spider-Man 4, 5, and 6 confirmed. This amazing trilogy started with Spider-Man way back in 2002 which showed the nerdy Peter Parker being genetically altered upon a bite from a genetically enhanced spider. Then in Spider-Man 2, Parker had to do battle with the evil Dr.Octupus while trying to win back Mary Jane's love. Now, in Spider-Man 3 Parker has to fight against new villains, Sandman and also Venom and he will have to battle with the darkness emerging from within him! All the while preventing his loved ones from loving him again.

As he struggles to contain his mind which is gradually taken over by the alien symbiote. He finally succeeds and take it out but it goes to t Eddie Brock; the sleazy ex daily bugle photographer. Eddie combined with Venom collaborated with the Sandman and kidnapped Mary Jane to get to Spiderman. Seeing that he’s facing two powerful opponents he asked for Harry’s help. An amazing fight scene resulted with it being too close to call, but in the end only one wins.

Writers side comments

M-50: Yeah I thought that it was good, a bit corny with emo Peter though. It was good that Harry and Peter got together for a short while at least then again. Dislike the way that they showed Venom for about 1 minute before killing him off. Sandman was good but there was not enough of him. There were nowhere near enough fight scenes in general which were important, unlike in SM2 where you had the New York barge fight. Romance was a tiny bit too much. The jazz club scene was an important one and it shows just how far Venom had sited to Peter Parker, and it was the scene where Peter hit Mary Jane! Topher Grace!!!!!! As venom!!!!! At least m
