i agree, these days it is very common, and needed i find for all audience types...however i would like it to be more meaningful...

Yep, my favorite classical deity. I've found I never can get just Anubis so I stick with the 24354 because it makes a rather simple pattern on the keyboard. I had a lot of typos in that last post...:S

I agree with you that it would be nice for the relationship to be more meaningful. And even though romances aren't exactly common in Shonen manga, there have been a few indirect romances. For example, Shaman King, though it's not really a "romantic" sort of romance, it's still there (storyline eventualities aside). Kubo's style thus far makes it seem like instead of just shooting for kids that are still uninterested in romance he is shooting for a bit wider of an age range. His story is still simplistic in the way it is put across, but it's got the right touch of layered meaning to appeal to an audience that would still be interested in seeing some sort of a romance form. The main thing I use to support this is Isshin (I probably misspelled his name, Ichigo's father) still is openly in love with his dead wife, as well as still sought vengence for her death. There are just too many elements in the story thus far that hints towards possible relationships for him not to at least grant one. Though who knows? There may never be one at all, or he could just decide to wait until the finale of the series to finally bring it together. After all, wouldn't the last Bleach scene ever be nice if it were Ichigo and whomever in some sort of an embrace with the sunset behind them? (cleched I know, just pulling for laughs here)

I personally belive Ichigo and Rukia are going to end up together. And here's why.
1- It's a shonen series. The main Guy character almost ALWAYS ends up with the main girl co-star. Their are exceptions of couse (Goku didn't end up with Bluma after all) but 90% of the time that's how it goes.

Wait, you telling me Orihime isn't a girl co-star? Rukia was the star in the SS arc, but in this Hueco Mundo arc, Orihime is WAY more important. In fact, without her, there wouldn't even be this arc!

2- They argue like an old married couple. Anime 101- The more a couple argue the more they get along. It usually happens the most when one character or both like the other but are too stubron to admit it. It's a standard clich and they fit the bill 100%.

Or maybe they'll argue so much that in the end, they end up hating each other. Hey, that's how divorce starts... through a lot of childish bickering.

3- Even air head Orihime could tell how much Ichigo cared about Rukia and got jelious about it. That's like a neon flashing sign saying that yes they are very close already.
Has anyone here ever read or seen Buso Renkin? The Relationship between Ichigo and Rukai is more or less the same as the relationship between the main characters from that series.

Ichigo cares more about Orihime at this point. I love it how IchixRuki fans always ignore this point in the manga. When Ulqy told Ichigo that Rukia was dead, Ichigo just said "get out of my way." When Ulqy said "I brough Orihime here", Ichigo went utterly BERSERK! More berserk than he ever had when he was rescuing Rukia back in the SS arc

This is not to say that Rukia is more important to him than Inoue. It's just that Rukia's reiatsu had faded, thus, Ichigo had to prioritize saving her.

Second, do you think, if Ulquiorra had said, for example, Chad instead of Orihime, Ichigo would react differently?

Let us put ourselves in Ichigo's place.

First of all, avid IchiHime fan *points to sig* but just because I support them doesn't mean anything. He could end up with either Rukia or Orihime, or just die alone... who knows?

Right now though, I really don't see anything romantic between him and Rukia. That said, it doesn't mean love can't develop, but just not now.

On the other end, I don't think Ichigo has any romantic feelings towards Orihime either, but I'm hoping for a development ^^

Only Kubo-sensei would know... or maybe not even him. Stories sometimes have a habit of carving out on their own.

Yes Orihime is a girl co-star but she's not the primary female co-star of the series by a long shot. That role falls to Rukia and always has and always will.

Just becuse she's not the main female co-star dosn't mean Orihime can't play an important role, but it does mean her chances of hooking up with Ichigo go significantly down.

It's the same reason Naruto is more likely to get Sakura then Hinata (even thought I hate it) becuse the main guy almost always ends up with the main gal. It's just a convention of manga.

Ruika is the main female character for the overall series not just 1 story ark. And just becuse your not in the every chapter dosn't mean much when the story isn't focused on you at the moment.

It's Ruika so it's not unusal for her to not show up for strectes of chapters at a time at all.

Did you miss all the character development Rukia went thought in her fight in Hueco. That was a very important plot point considering it dispelled the reincarnation theory about a certian someone.

Orihime helping Aizen is the big plot twist, the big climax of Bleach! I don't see how beating up a few bad guys make you more important. If so, then Yamamoto should be the most important dude in Bleach.

lisen in the end it will be like this. One dies (orihime or rukia) and ichigo gets pissed and kills the guy who kills her,or the guys whos falt it is. There is another possibility, if ichigo gose with rukia, orihime will most likely end up with ishida. If he gose with orihime, rukia will go with Renji. these are facts everyone knows

To be honest, I cant really see Ichigo with either at the moment. The only person who has openly revealed any type of feelings is Orihime. I highly doubt that after the Hueco arc, Ichigo will automatically have feelings for Orihime. Oh, and I really cant see him revealing feelings for Rukia(even if she is the "main female character"). Regardless of it being a shonen manga, I doubt the two will get together, if you want to go by that rule of the main male and female getting together, then look at the dragonball manga(I know, a bad example). Bulma and Goku were the main male and female characters when the story started out, yet Goku the lead male ended up marrying Chi-Chi, a character that was barely in the story. I'm not saying that Ichigo is going to end up with some random obscure character, but anything possible.

Look, Ichigo hasn't shown any signs of preferring one over the other. There are certain instances where he seems more worried/ happy/ caring towards both of them so really, no one knows who (if anyone!!!) he will end up with. There aren't even any guarantees that he will end up with someone! I could very well see an ending where the world is at peace (temporarily, of course) and the characters go their own ways, still remaining friends, but being independent of each other.
I personally am a rabid IchigoXRukia fan, so I'd love to see them together, but I have no idea if that will ever happen....*sighs*

P.S. Rukia is definately the main female lead and I'm not just saying that because I'm a Rukia fan but just because of the role she plays in Ichigo's life. I mean, honestly, she was the one who originally brought him into the world of the shinigami's and she's been with him for the whole series. Even if she's not the center female of this arc does not mean she's been replaced. Actually, on the contrary, I think she's about to become way more important to this plot with the doubt surrounding what happened to her. I highly doubt Ichigo's going to take this quietly. He's probably going to go on into another arc about bringing her back Lmao Kubo loves stuff like that.

So, for now, it's anyone's guess as to if it's going to be Rukia or Orihime.

Byakuya is a BIT player in Bleach in the long run at best. His only role was to be the big obsitcal that Icihigo had to overcome in one story ark. He'll do a little bit in the Winter war and stuff but he's far from a main character.

For Ruika her role in this story arc so far was to get some pay off from what we learned about her past in the Soul society ark. Their's no garentee her role in the arc is over since she can still yet make a comeback.

If She does end up with Ichigo then Bleach will be one of the few exceptions to the rule of the main male and female protagonists getting together in a shonen manga.

No, Byakuya and Rukia are quite similar. Rukia played her part as the girl that needed to be saved; Byakuya played the obstacle that prevented Ichigo from reaching his goal. Once Byakuya's character was revealed, he became insignificant. Once Rukia's final character development was revealed, she became insignificant. Ichigo is doing just fine without Rukia in the manga arc, and everyone else is as well (well, Chad is in a pinch, but that's unrelated to Rukia's dilema).

It's pretty much the same.

Ichigo is like that whenever a nakama is in danger, it doesn't matter who. Ichigo will protect them even if it means risking his neck and going against overwhelming odds.

On another note, Kubo Tite has been pairing Ichigo/Inoue with Rukia/Renji in a lot of his art.

The anime producers have been aggressively showing Ichigo/Rukia, however.

Because of that, I think there's a higher chance for Ichigo x Inoue in the end, although I'm rooting for Ichigo x Rukia. There's still time for a turnaround.

No, Byakuya and Rukia are quite similar. Rukia played her part as the girl that needed to be saved; Byakuya played the obstacle that prevented Ichigo from reaching his goal. Once Byakuya's character was revealed, he became insignificant. Once Rukia's final character development was revealed, she became insignificant. Ichigo is doing just fine without Rukia in the manga arc, and everyone else is as well (well, Chad is in a pinch, but that's unrelated to Rukia's dilema).

Aizen wanted Orihime to join his army because she has a very useful technique. Rukia is just another character that is being overshadowed by Ichigo, the main hero. In other words, because Orihime is important to Aizen, the MAIN villian, that makes Orihime WAY more important than Rukia.

Sure Orihime is important to the plot OF THIS ARC, but in terms of overrall importantce to the story Rukia outweights her. Hell the story wouldn't even have started with out Rukia who is directly responsible for both the first and second story arcs where as Orimhime is only responsible for 1 which was built off the second.

Ichigo already did the same irrational thing concerning Rukia's execution. Actually, he and Ishida and Chad and Inoue did. Doesn't mean that they are in love with Rukia.

Now, Ichigo and Chad and Ishida and Renji and Rukia went to rescue Inoue despite overwhelming odds. Doesn't mean that they're all in love with Inoue.

I think it was quite a significant moment in the manga in regards to Ichigo's feelings about Orihime being taken away. In fact Kubo had Nell comment on that very moment and she explains that their was a change in the "gentle" Ichigo she was with when Orihime's name was mentioned. There is no need to downplay it, when it was factually stated as a significant moment in the manga by a character that by Ichigo's side the entire time.

And if people want to "gauge" or measure Ichigo's emotions (kinda impossible, but that's what they're trying to do), I think the proper way to go about it would be to compare his reaction to hearing about Orihime's death to his reaction to Rukia's death. That would be more accurate.

(And good for someone that likes Ichigo/Orihime like me, because he was me vehement in one. :redbiggri )

If Orihime was ever jealous of one thing... it was that she wasn't able to cheer Ichigo up after the Ulqui/Yammy business. And the truth was during that time BOTH Ichigo and Inoue were hurting each other and their was this huge wall of awkwardness and angst between them. Neither one of them knew how to deal with the situation properly.

It's easy for an interloper like Rukia, who has no connection to the incident, but a strong bond with the characters involved to tell him off and set him straight. She does have a mentoring affect on Ichigo.

Now back to Orihime being jealous, yeah, she wants to be the one to cheer up Ichigo, simply because she loves him and she wanted to make him feel better. That was the only instance I can think of. But, whatever, Orihime also thought that Ishida was in love with Rukia... her woman's intuition fails. (There was probably also some guilt involved because in her mind she was being selfish because just seeing Ichigo happy isn't enough, she's arrived to the point where she wants to be a part of his happiness. The moment also showed how her feelings for him have grown, from "2 vs 1 = win!")

Sure Shinji has feelings for Ichigo, it's all in the SUBTEXT.

I never once stated that Ichigo was in love with Orihime, and that wasn't my intention. I just wanted to point out that there was a significant change and difference in his reaction, supported by statements in the manga itself.

However people choose to take that as well as things in the Soul Society arc is up to their own interpretations.

Personally, I haven't seen any romantic moments between IchigoxRukia or IchigoxChad. It's unavoidable to miss out on romantic moments between IchigoxOrihime because she is obviously in love with him (not saying that the one we're discussing is, in particular). One-sided as they tend to be, those feelings will always underlie their interaction and give it a different feel. (Maybe that's why her feelings were explicitly stated from the start...)

And that's a hypothetical situation, it is not an actuality. The reality of the manga is that Ichigo could not control his emotions at that time while the others could. The other reality is that he was able to control himself in chapter 270 until Orihime was mentioned. The mangaka choose for it to be this way.

How is Orihime going to get to Rukia? It's not like the two Espada at the fight scene of Grimmjow and Ichigo (Noitora and Halibel) are going to let Ichigo and Orihime escape. Not to mention Ulquiorra, because I'm sure he will get out of the Negacion soon. Orihime is too valuable to Aizen. Everything that has transpired up to the point the Manga is in has occured with Aizen's permission. If Orihime had a chance of truly escaping and healing her friends, Aizen would intervene. Also, don't forget that it took Noitora about an hour to get to Ichigo after battling Chad.

If you remember, in Rukia's flashback of killing Kaien, when she was dragging Kaien to the Shiba house, his soul was already degrading and dissapearing.

It's been atleast an hour since Rukia and Chad have been attacked. Their souls could be undergoing the same process. Rukia also has several fatal organs pierced (and probably her Aorta, which is the largest and primary Artery in the body) so that will cause a lot of blood to leak out. Her wound is deadly. Her will to live can only prolong death for so long. For all we know, her Soul could already be gone.

I think I posted here before but i feel like ding so again. Some interesting things I feel responding to.

For Ruika her role in this story arc so far was to get some pay off from what we learned about her past in the Soul society ark. Their's no garentee her role in the arc is over since she can still yet make a comeback.
In all honesty, if Kubo decides to kill a character whom he dedicated the whole arc saving I can at least call it dumb. As far as I'm concerned, she is alive and will make a comeback. ^^

It's important in the amount of screen time you get since most of the screen time in bleach is spent on fights. Ruika gets more fights then Orihime and thus she gets a lot more screen time making her more important.

Fights aren't those who matter, although they do add great deal in character development, for characters such as Rukia, it's not really important, it's even irrelevant.

Fact is, Ichigo would go into that no matter who of his friends would get captured, which makes is pretty hard to say to which of the two Ichigo has more feelings for. or should I say, who he loves.

But I've gotten a bit off-topic here. my point is, number of battles certainly do NOT indicate the importance of character.

Um no becuse Ruika was pivtal BEFORE the SS arc and has contiuned to be important afterword with how her return effected Ichigo and the other stuff.
Before this ark came up Orimhime was relegated to comic relefe 95% of the time.

I doubt Kubo would take that risk and make either pairing cannon, but instead just provide enough shipping material for both pairings. That way everyone stays happy and fans of the opposing ships can continue biting each other heads off.

My point is, that importance of characters is measured in feelings and emotions, not my being useful to anyone. Just because she is useful to Aizen that doesn't make him important. Then for example, Ulquiorra or any Espada is completely irrelevant to the story and unimportant as character, because Aizen himself says that Espadas can easily be replaced and doesn't care about them. The fact that Aizen has interest in Orihime doesn't exactly make her important, not to me at least. In all honesty, how is she gonna be of any use to Aizen anyway?

But the fact is, neither of the ships really work for me. But at least I'm getting more vibe from IchiRuki, while no matter how hard i try, i think IchiHime is totally one sided.

Well, Ichigo is known to be hard headed and irrational. He may believe this, only because he is one to always have high hopes that everything will work out his way. Ichigo's too much of an idealist and not a realist, he always acts as if his dreams are reality, and that they will always come true. Ichigo's always been bailed out when he acts like this.. like when he went to fight Byakuya on the bridge leading to the Shrine of Penitence. He believed that he could defeat Byakuya and end everything there. He was wrong, he was just acting based on the emotions surging through his heart. He doesn't make well-thought out decisions, and just tries to protect his friend no matter what the cost.

I believe this is one of those instances, where he is wrong despite believing he is right.

Very true, I'm just saying anything is possible. The battle that she died in would definatly be a worthy way to die, however I wouldn't fully count her out until one of the protagnoists fully confirm it. All evidence says she's dead, but who knows?

They're different, completely different. :sad I think both expressions symbolize two entirely different emotions, it's not a matter of eyes and teeth for me. I think he's obviously angered and extremely pissed of in one and very concerned/worried in another. The Rukia instance is supposed to be a throwback to the Ulqui/Yammy incident (poignant for Ichigo)... They're two different situations and they evoke two different emotions.

I can see that. That is how you choose to rationalize/interpret the situation and it is logical, conceivable...

But, like I keep stressing it was pointed out to us that prior to that he was as Nell calls him "gentle Ichigo" and it was mention that it was Orihime's name that brought about this change. The reason why Ichigo reactedt that way is stated in the manga for all to see. I think regardless, he would have gave the same reaction, and he even added Ulquiorra to his list of "Must Defeat."

I think people ( this is not for you, sweeterthanchocolate) want to downplay this because then they will HAVE to admit that Orihime does have a high level of importance where Ichigo is concerned, higher than they expected... If that is how we measure it, then BOTH girls are important to Ichigo. BOTH of them made him who he is today.

For starters, part of Rukia cheering Ichigo up was her taking him to Orihime, where he vowed to become stronger for the sake of protecting... ORIHIME.

Early on Ichigo learned how to fly/float/whatever in a fight with Orihime's brother. And I don't think I even need to mention "Don't die Kurosaki-kun!" and the fact that she was the one to heal him and give him the strength to fight Grimmjow...

It's not even Orihime and Rukia alone, there are tons of people the influence Ichigo. The reason why he took the powers in the first place was to protect his FAMILY. Plenty of characters help him overcome obstacles... Most of them serve the purpose of helping Ichigo because he is the main character (NOT Rukia).

How would the story be different without Rukia? Not much, we just lost someone who's roughly a vice captain level shinigami. As Yamamoto said so himself, vice captain shinigamis are worth absolutely nothing.

How would the story be different without Orihime? Aizen would lose his biggest healer in the army, and (though I recall vaguely) he needs Orihime to use the Hougyouku INFINITELY. Now, THAT'S a big part Orihime is playing.

My point is, that importance of characters is measured in feelings and emotions, not my being useful to anyone. Just because she is useful to Aizen that doesn't make him important. Then for example, Ulquiorra or any Espada is completely irrelevant to the story and unimportant as character, because Aizen himself says that Espadas can easily be replaced and doesn't care about them. The fact that Aizen has interest in Orihime doesn't exactly make her important, not to me at least. In all honesty, how is she gonna be of any use to Aizen anyway?

Aizen needs Orihime's "rejecting" powers to heal the Hougyouku infinitely. Because of this, Aizen's threat to the universe just increased by 100000%.

But, like I keep stressing it was pointed out to us that prior to that he was as Nell calls him "gentle Ichigo" and it was mention that it was Orihime's name that brought about this change. The reason why Ichigo reactedt that way is stated in the manga for all to see. I think regardless, he would have gave the same reaction, and he even added Ulquiorra to his list of "Must Defeat."

That was definitely an Ichigo-Inoue moment. But, like the Ichigo-Rukia moments in the SS Arc, I don't think it signifies love -- only a deep bond of friendship.

I think people want to downplay this because then they will HAVE to admit that Orihime does have a high level of importance where Ichigo is concerned, higher than they expected... The main arguement seems to be "Rukia changed his life, she is MOAR IMPORTANT, this is love!!!!!" So poor Orihime is refused an inch... *cries*

You know, really at this point one could make a better arguement for Ichigo and Sado than anyone else and Ichigo. After all, we all know he feels for Sado. Even though he's never really given a detailed explination for exactly how he feels for Sado, you could infer that it's romantic. Domhnall has a valid point when talking about the reiatsu thing. He can notice Sado's reiatsu much more easily than anyone else.

Yes she admitted it (As if we didn't know already) but to an unconscious Ichigo. Even if she would have planted one on him their non-existent relationship would not progress any further. Frankly he doesn't think about Inoue unless he sees her.
Also in the Manga Rukia told Ichigo to his face she loves him, let me remind you or tell you because you may not read the Manga. The Anime deviated from the original dialog When Rukia originally returned and she snatched Ichigo out of the classroom, and took him to fight that Hollow. She gave Ichigo a speech. She ended that speech with "Even if you can't count on anyone but yourself...Stand up and ROAR! That's what the Ichigo who sill lives in my heart would do! "
Translation: I love you. Ichigo isn't dead, so there is no reason for her to say he still lives in her heart, unless...She is talking about love. She didn't say I love you...but it means I love you nonetheless. And do you remember Ichigo's reaction? He broke out in a broad grin, and said "I told you...You talk to much" Slayed the Hollow and was his old self.
When Ichigo left Rukia, in SS he was clearly depressed without her. He saw Inoue everyday and this did nothing to lift his spirits. But after her return, all it took was a few minutes and a declaration of love (Yes love!) and he was his old self. Inoue who was with him in school everyday...could not do this. Even she knew this, and cried (I loved that part) :Haha
Lastly, love is a behavior not a feeling. It is the manner in which a person behaves towards another in which love becomes apparent. Ichigo behaves as if loves Rukia. Likewise Rukia behaves as if she loves Ichigo. They don't have to say it...it is apparent to all (Except the IchiOri demons) that there is more than friendship between the two. He barely even talks to Inoue, so how could anyone possibly believe there is a chance in hell, of them getting together?!
If KT was going to do that, I don't think he would have separated them in SS arc and instead Ichigo would have been dragging her around, and formed a bond with her as he was trying to save Rukia. Then would have had a legitimate love triangle, but we do not. We have IchiRuki love...Then there's Emo-Hime and her one-sided-love.

In conclusion, we have better chance of seeing Zaraki and Mayuri in a lip-lock, than Ichigo ending up with Orihime.

This is what I hate about anime in general. I hate how when a girl loves someone in an anime they never notice it. it just kills me to see crap like that happen. It was also Rukia he turned to, when he showed mild distress over her kidnapping.

Ichigo had no choice but to fight Grimmjow....Actually that's not true. He admitted that his real reason for coming was to fight Grimmjow, Ulquiorra and Aizen...and then was going to (He called them in order of importance's) to take Rukia, .
Chado, Ishida, Renji and Inoue back with him (Damn she was last...after Renji) :Haha

Side note: Grim didn't abuse Orhime...He killed the ones who did, he just abducted/freed her.

So you see Inoue's rescue took a back seat to his wanting to prove his strength and crushing the bad guys.
Ulquiorra seems to have formed a tender...He talks rough but he watches Orihime constantly. I think she is whom, he is referring to as his prey...Since he considers Ichigo as trash at this point. Hell, he didn't even think Ichigo was worth killing.

Rukia on the other hand actually knows Ichigo. And think about it...although we didn't see every little to moment. Rukia and Ichigo were never apart Her entire stay in SS. That means when they were not chasing Hollows...They were just layin-up....:winking56

However look how its being reciprocated - as it usually is. She'll end up with Ulqi, I can see him sitting down sipping tea with her chattering about the kitchen making lord knows what. He is what she needs, a good listener :p

I'd actually prefer Tatsuki over Orihime. She could take Rukia's place in ichigo's lonely heroic heart - and she'd fit in better with his family, primarily the cooky father.

Ichigo has his preferences, what can I say about that :)

He'll never get out of the 'abuse at home' thing. Someone he lives with will always knock the shit out of him when he needs it to get him moving. Orihime couldn't do that. Or at least the idea of Orihime rearing back and jawing Ichigo is enough to put a smile on my face, but I don't see it ever happening.

Rukia's got no rough exterior :(

But Ichigo may not realize that Orihime, and our guys may not do anything unless they know that girl likes them too. Some guys are so shy.

A common misconception is that Ichigo does not pay any attention to Orihime. Read the manga more closely and you'll notice that he pays her quite a deal of attention; he just doesn't throw her off oversized execution stands.

Rukia is always sad anyway, I'm still on episode 50 my computer's slow so I watch the ones on tv. Besides the dead and the liveing are never to mix they are to remain seperate. Rukia and Ichigo are never ment to be get over it.

well, i'm not going to get into the details of the manga and the anime, because i couldn't compare with undying's posts who are just crystal clear...

so, i'm just going to stay on a very superficial point of view, as always ;)

so, you have on one hand, the very sexy and gentle orihime (i would have posted a pic of her sexiness if i wasn't such a newbie).
and on the other hand, you have rukia...not much to say about her really...physically speaking anyway, in my opinion, but again that's just me...

so my choice for ichigo would be orihime, without a doubt, she's so cute.
i mean just check out orihemi's sig for instance ;)

Err...You want read what you posted again, and then tell me who is delusional? Someone's is changing facts, and leaving out important details to suit himself.

Yes. Ichigo was upset, over Orihime getting the smackdown, laid on her... by Yammy (God I love that part. Even if I wish he'd kicked around a little more) But ...you forget not only was he upset by that...Chad almost lost an arm, Tatsuki almost died, He started off good; then he saw their Masks and Zankpaku-to's and choked. Also, his Inner-Hollow, made an appearance and almost took over. Oh...and Orihime got hurt.

So he was very depressed by his failings. Not to mention afraid to turn into a Shinigami again.He also felt an extreme amount of guilt and pain. None that Orihime's bubbly, smiles and reassurance could take away.

Then Rukia returns.
One slap, (Or was it a kick? I forget.) an uplifting speech, and confession that he lives in her heart. What happened, next?
A broad smile, a joyous heart, Ichigo was back in "Kick-ass mode" again

Neh, Undy? Who was it that not only cured his depression, restored his confidence, and dragged him to Inoue... and not only forced him to make the promise. Actually put the words in mouth, and made him finish it.
That's when Orihime realized right then in there, she doesn't stand a chance in hell. (She cried over it...I love that part too) :headbang Don't know why you are still hanging on to the hopes...when even she knows it's futile
