The following is the beginning of a project that I am working on. This project will document the history of Soul Society and the Shinigami. Volume 1 is the story of the first Shinigami. Future Volumes will include such things as the formation of the Gotei 13 and the Quincy War. Feedback would be nice, thanks.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prologue
Thirty thousand years before Kurosaki Ichigo first met Kuchiki Rukia and gained his Shinigami powers, the world was a very different place. Those were dark times for the living. Hollows had barely any opposition. The Hollow King had his way with the living, thus they lived in constant fear. For most people all they ever knew was that there was something at work. They knew only of the random but frequent deaths that occurred everywhere. Nobody was safe, be they living or pluses.
However, there was one small group of people willing to stand up to the evil. They were a band of thirteen warrior-magicians. Led by Terakawa Aizawa, they traveled the world killing and sealing hollows away. Yet, they alone were not enough. Eventually the Hollow King found out what they were up to, and began to send the strongest hollows, Vasto Lorde, after them. One by one, they were all defeated until only Terakawa remained.
After Terakawa had defeated several Vasto Lorde, the Hollow King himself stepped forth. This was a fight that Terakawa could not win. After a vicious fight, he was defeated. All that remained of his great legacy was his katana, which the Hollow King took back to Hueco Mundo as a reminder of his greatest victory. All hope was lost, at least for a time.

Hey, I have exams coming up in 6 hours but I gotta say that the prologue is very intriguing. A very interesting prologue to say the least. I like the premise of 13 warriors taking on the hollows and their king. Good stuff.

Yeah, not bad, but 30k years? That's a long time ago..

I have a reason for it being so long ago. Kuchiki Byakuya is the 28th head of the Kuchiki family. He once said that only once several generations does someone achieve bankai. Since Shinigamis age slowly, then theoretically their generations would be farther apart. Plus I needed a few extra millenia between the first shinigami and the formation of the noble houses.
yeah the prologue sounds really interesting but that will be a long long long project wont it? keep it up :-) good work

I'm prepared. Well anyways, the first chapter will come out probably tomorrow, Tuesday tops.
I was hoping for more in the prologue section, more information or details of the battle and the heroic actions and deaths of the 13 warriors.
Led by Terakawa Aizawa, they traveled the world killing and sealing hollows away
Shouldn't there be a comma at the end of "world"?
The whole prologue is quite brief, too general in my terms. However as this is going to a long long project, I'm sure you'll face more criticism as the one I composed.

Hey everybody. Here's chapter 1. Hope you like.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 1
Zetsumei was in a good mood, as he often was after one of his “hunts.” As Rimgar, the Hollow King’s, right hand man, Zetsumei was as evil as hollows came. His “hunts” as he called them, were frequent visits he made to the world of the living. During these trips, he became nothing more than a savage beast, taking apart entire villages purely for pleasure. This time was no different, and just as with any other time he came back from these hunts, he had an air of cockiness to him.
As he walked through Las Noches’s, a castle constructed by the first hollows, towards the grand hall he passed a glass case upon the wall. Within it was displayed, the legendary blade of Terakawa. All of the Vasto Lorde who resided in las Noches had heard the story of Rimgar’s greatest victory many times over, but as his right hand man, Zetsumei had heard it more than any other had. To Zetsumei it was a symbol of power, and there was nothing he desired more than power. Many times, he had stared at the magnificent blade, having to hold back the desires to steal it. Taking one last look, he walked onwards.
Finally, he entered Rimgar’s throne room, where most of the Vasto Lordes resided during the day. However, to his surprise, he was greeted with the horrific bellowing of Rimgar’s voice. “You fool. Of all the times you had to go one of your hunts, you had to choose today. There was an uprising from some band of Adjuchas and a Vasto Lorde, from the south who came trying to take my throne. Because you weren’t here to help, several of us have been last, in defeating them. No one is to ever remove me from power. You fools are here to make sure of that. I do not wish to dirty my hands on weaklings; that is your job.”
“You have no dominion over me. I come and go as I please. You may think I serve you, but that is only for a time. You’ll see,” replied the furious Zetsumei. With that, he stormed off, knocking down two Vasto Lordes in his path and killing an Adjuchas, in the process. For so long Zetsumei had lived under the rule of Rimgar. For so long he had planned to take away his power. This was the last time he would take the tyrant’s insults. He would have his revenge. It was then that he once again walked by Terakawa’s blade. A grin spread across his face.
“Hmm, I wonder how mad Rimgar will get if I take this sword. He would do anything for this. That’s it. I shall take it. I’ll use it to lure him away from this forsaken place. Once I have him alone, I’ll kill him. Then nothing will stand between me and true power.” Zetsumei clawed out at the case, smashing the glass to bits. Reaching inside, he took the hilt in his hands. It was at this moment that two Royal Guards walked around the corner.
“What are you doing,” they screamed. “You can’t take that. Rimgar will have all our heads for this. Put it back and maybe he’ll take pity on you.” Zetsumei knew better than that, and thus he ran. As he ran a piercing pain soared through his body, but he would not let go of the sword. Ideas of power overcame all the pain he was experiencing. He continued to run through the twisting passages until he escaped Las Noches and reached the distant sand dunes of Hueco Mundo. Then, all his energy gone, he collapsed; he was covered by the sand, the katana still in his hand.

Well, I'm working on chapter 2 and it may or may not come out tonight.
Well here it is, Chapter 2. It's quite likely that between now and next Wednesday, the chapters will not be coming out a chapter a night. I have finals monday through wednesday next week then schools out. Darn finals. Well I can probably get in two more chapters.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 2
Zetsumei had finally awoken. His body still ached, but now there was something new, a sense that he could not quite describe. Lifting himself out of the sand, he was surprised to see that his hands were not as they once were. They had become human in appearance, not clawed like the hands of a Vasto Lorde. Then looking to his right he saw a mask, the two horned mask of a Vasto Lorde. Reaching up to his own face, he couldn’t believe what he felt. His mask was gone replaced with the face of a human. Then he heard a cold laughter.
“Haha, so you’ve finally awaken, and I see you’re surprised by the changes your body has undergone,” said a man sitting on a rock nearby. The man had long black hair and piercing eyes. He was dressed in a black kimono covering a white undershirt. There was a straw hat covering his face.
“Human,” snarled Zetsumei. “How did you get to Hueco Mundo?” Zetsumei wanted to know what this man had to do with his sudden transformation, and he was ready to strike.
“You shouldn’t be talking you look just like a human now. Now as for you question, I have been here for years. I have been here as long as the sword that you now hold within you hands. I am the great Terakawa Aizawa of which your king has spoken of.”
Zetsumei couldn’t understand what was going on. First of all, how could Terakawa possibly be alive? Secondly, he was surprised he had not yet attacked the man. Just the day before if he had seen a human, he would have torn the human to pieces. “You can’t possibly be Terakawa. He was killed by Rimgar.”
“Who ever said I was alive? I am dead, but for twenty long years my soul has resided in that sword. Now after all this time, my plan has begun to take effect. By stealing this sword, you set my plan into action. You have set this transformation upon yourself. You are the one to blame for your returned humanity.”
All of this was rushing through Zetsumei’s mind. Did Terakawa say his humanity had been restored? Was this why he hadn’t attacked Terakawa on first sight? What was the plan he talked off. “What do you mean by plan?”
“Twenty years ago when I heard your king would be coming out of Hueco Mundo to challenge me, I knew I had met my match. I went into that fight prepared to lose. I made preparations so that my work would be continued. Now you have started what I planned. Using the magic that my men developed, I made it so that once I died my soul would be bound to my sword. This way someone could find my sword, and through it, I could teach a new generation. However, I had reason to believe my sword may end up in the hands of a hollow, so I put another enchantment upon it. The hollow who took this sword as his own, would regain his humanity and have to face what he had done. So either way I would be able to pass down my work.”
“Then why did the curse not work on Rimgar,” asked Zetsumei.
“He was too strong spirited, too evil. There was no humanity left to restore.”
“Either way, I will not become your apprentice.”
“You say that now, but how long can you go on knowing what your kind have done before your newfound conscious kicks in? Eventually you will come to me. Therefore, this is my idea. Together we shall go into the human world. There you will see. There you will understand. It is fate that has brought you to me. If you really have no heart then nothing will happen and my legacy will crumble, but I know that will not be the case.”
The awaken humanity within Zetsumei was in control and it was curious. Thus, he couldn’t help but to comply with Terakawa’s idea. He was sure nothing would come of it. Then once this was over, he would return to his original plan, and lure out Rimgar. Then he would rule over Hueco Mundo and all Hollows. Once Zetsumei had nodded, Terakawa disappeared. However, Zetsumei could still hear his voice telling him that he would be watched. Taking the katana, he left the sandy dunes of Hueco Mundo for the human world.

Chapter 3
Zetsumei had reached the human world. With the guidance of Terakawa, he had come upon a shabby little village. There were people on the streets, sobbing, broken down huts; overall, this was a very desolate place. Looking around at the unfortunate village, Zetsumei couldn’t help but to pity them. Pity, it was a new concept for him. As a Vasto-Lorde, he had only known anger and hatred. Yet, now as he looked upon these people he was overcome with a new emotion, grief. Terakawa glanced at him.
“Do you see? This is what your kind has brought upon my people. This is my home. I lived here my entire youth. It was always like this. Not once could I remember a time when everybody was happy. Before I came of age, I never understood why the things that happened to us happened. Then as I got older, I became spiritually more aware. That was when I first began to notice Hollows. I saw how they brought only pain and suffering to the people around me.”
Zetsumei answered, “I can’t believe I’m feeling what I’m feeling right now. These emotions disgust me, but at the same time, I can see why I feel them. I can accept that these people have been wronged and have led hard lives. I pity them. Something I have never done.”
As Zetsumei walked through town, the humanity that had been reawakened grew stronger and stronger. He had the urge to put a stop to their suffering. Then at the end of the alley, he saw a young girl. She was dressed in rags and had a look of absolute terror on her face. Her expression made sense, seeing as how a Hollow was holding her in the air. To her it probably seemed as if some evil magic was holding her up, trying to squeeze the life out of her. Zetsumei’s inner human took total control at that moment. Whipping out the katana, he charged at the low-level Hollow. With a quick slash, the girl fell to the ground. The Hollow had had its arms severed just above the elbow. As it screamed in pain, Zetsumei went in for the kill. This time the evil being was decapitated. Not knowing what had saved her, the girl ran off.
Terakawa began to speak, “So I see that you have given into your inner human, Zetsumei. Do you really wish to avoid the obvious? You must accept what I have to teach you. You are strong, but with my help, you can become even stronger, maybe even stronger than Rimgar.”
Zetsumei answered, “You are right. I will take your training. When the time comes, I will do what you couldn’t. I will kill Rimgar. I have seen the error of my ways. No longer will I let my former Hollow consume me. Terakawa you have found yourself an apprentice.”
Terakawa grinned. “Good. Let us begin.”

Chapter 4
Terakawa had brought Zetsumei to a cave out in the middle of nowhere. Why he was here, Zetsumei had no idea. He didn’t see how place such as this would serve as an adequate training ground. “Why are we here,” he asked Terakawa.
“This is no ordinary cave. There is a hidden chamber here. This is where my men and I had our headquarters. That back wall there is the entrance,” he answered.
Zetsumei looked over at the cave wall. It was barren and no different than any other of the walls. He went over to the wall and felt it, looking for a crack or something that would show that this was truly and entrance. “I see nothing different about this wall.”
“You think too simply. We would never have made the entrance to our headquarters so carelessly. Concentration is the key. You must concentrate your spirit energy; you must envision a door and yourself opening it. This is the secret to getting inside. Do that and your training will begin.”
Zetsumei began to focus his energy in front of him. Slowly but surely he could see the bleak outline of a door appearing in his mind. He reached for it with his mind and then he opened his eyes. The cave was gone. He now stood in a large room. To his left there was what appeared to be a swordsman training area. To his left were shelves upon shelves of books. At the center was a large table. Zetsumei was disappointed. He had expected more from the headquarters of the thirteen warriors.
“Is this it? I’m to train here?”
“Yes. Are you surprised by its simplicity. Trust me this place will be adequate for someone of your caliber. As for your training let me outline my plans. Our goal, above all else at the moment, is to prepare you to take out Rimgar. To do so, you will need much spiritual training. The area to your left is where you will train with your sword when I’m not instructing you on other matters. You will spend a small part of your day looking through those books. They were written by some of my men. They outline some skills that will surely be useful in your battle with Rimgar. At all other times, I will instruct you on the stronger magic which isn’t written down. Do you understand?”
“Yes Terakawa, but how do you expect me to be able to beat Rimgar if I’m reading and learning magic tricks.”
“You’re a slow one. I can tell you’re a born fighter. You will be able to manage a sword well with minimal training. The only difference between you and Rimgar is spirit energy. In that area he is at least twice as strong. You have more potential than I ever had. We need to take that and turn it into something. I would have beaten Rimgar myself had it not been for the difference in energy. I knew so much magic. I will pass it on to you. As strong as Rimgar was he still had trouble during the fight because of my magic. You will be able to beat him. I’m sure.”
Zetsumei understood now. If this was what he was going to have to do to overcome the Hollow King, then he would do it. He would undergo Terakawa’s training schedule. He didn’t like it, but the way Terakawa had put it made Zetsumei feel that it was the only way.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Working on chapter 6. Definitely will come out tomorrow. No doubt about it.:Domo
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 5
It was late, several hours into the night. Several days had passed since Zetsumei’s training had begun and he was doing well. He had grasped on the concepts of the lost warriors just as well as Terakawa had expected. At the moment Terakawa was lecturing him on the procedure involved in executing high level binding spells. This was a particularly difficult task and Zetsumei’s mind was beginning to wander.
“Zetsumei, pay attention,” scolded Terakawa. “What are you thinking about anyway.”
“Well I’ve been thinking, what happens after I beat Rimgar?”
“Well then you would probably continue fighting Hollows. Then when the time comes you should gather apprentices. This way there will always be a force to fight evil and keep the peace.”
“Makes sense,” pondered Zetsumei, “ but how about pluses. They’re a part of the problem. I feel it would be best if they were kept separate from society.”
“Yes, I agree. It was a topic that I thought about often. However, there’s no place to send them too. We could create a separate spirit-based world for them, but that would require a large amount of spiritual energy to even form a foundation. To do such a thing would require an immense sacrifice, and as far I know only two beings currently exist that can supply the necessary energy. Those two are you and Rimgar.”
“Then Terakawa, why don’t we do that? We could use Rimgar’s defeat for that purpose. It would greatly decrease the chaos in the world today,” replied Zetsumei.
Terakawa scratched his chin as he answered, “I guess we could try. Yes. It won’t be as simple as that though. Give me some time. If that is the plan than I will need to prepare some things. This will be tough. For now though let’s put that aside and get back to your training.”
Teacher and student went back to a discussion of binding spells. Both minds were now thinking of other things though. Terakawa was already beginning to work out how such a ritual would have to be carried out. A proper chant would also be necessary, otherwise the spell would lack in power. Zetsumei was thinking now about the upcoming fight. He had more purpose now then before. If he could defeat Rimgar, it would not only mean the end of the Hollow King, but a completely changed world. In a world where pluses and Hollows always went about as they pleased, Zetsumei was being granted an opportunity to put an end to it.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 6
Zetsumei’s training was coming to an end. Three months after he had first lost his Hollow-self, he was in the midst of his last lesson. Terakawa had taught him all of the techniques he felt would be useful in the battle with Rimgar. All that was left to do was to strategize. Terakawa had come up with a way to create a world for the pluses. Now Zetsumei had to somehow beat Rimgar in a way that he could still be used as a sacrifice.
“Zetsumei tomorrow we shall go to Hueco Mundo. The time has come. You are strong, both of spirit and of body. You have mastered my most powerful of spells. The preparations are ready. When you fight him, you mustn’t completely destroy him. If you do our plans will be ruined. Once you’ve beaten him to a point where he’s barely hanging on to life, you must execute the 75th binding, Quintet of 1 kan Iron Pillars . It will only hold him for a short time, so then you must perform the ritual. Understand?”
"Yes. I know exactly what must be done"
"Let me give you the chant required for the ritual.”
As Terakawa recited the words, Zetsumei scribbled them down on a scroll. When he was done it read:
Seken seisei, ichi seirei konki, taishite kontan wakarewakareni.
“Zetsumei the ritual also requires a small blood sacrifice from the chanter, in this case you. It must come in contact with Rimgar. The combination of your energies will be enough to create a place for souls to exist separately. That is all there is to the ritual. For now though you should rest. Tomorrow we begin.”
Zetsumei left the room, going to a side bedchamber. As he laid on his bed, staring at the ceiling he thought of the things to come. Tomorrow would be the first time he entered Hueco Mundo since that fateful day three months prior. Soon the grip the Hollow King had on the human world would be loosened. Hollows would no longer terrorize everyone. Zetsumei rolled over in his bed, closing his eyes. He fell into a peaceful slumber. To him there was nothing to fear. Ahead laid two paths. Defeat and victory, and defeat was not something he would accept.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Another chapter. The next and probably the last of volume 1, will come out at the end of next week. That's because I'm going to my cousins' and they don't have a word processor on their pc. Well vol. 2 is a direct sequel and it concerns the great noble families. Since we only know 3 out of the original 5, does anyone mind if i choose 2 families to fill in the slots. I was thinking Ukitake and Kyōraku.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Chapter 7
Zetsumei was ready. Jumping out of bed, he grabbed his katana and headed for the door. Terakawa was waiting for him at the door, smirking. Gesturing for Zetsumei to follow, Terakawa led him away from the door and towards a back room. There he pointed at the closet. Zetsumei went over and slid open the door. Inside was the same outfit that Terakawa wore, just covered with dust. He took it off the rack, patting the dust off.
“So is this for me?,” he asked.
“Yeah. I found it last night. One of the old outfits. It’s fitting that you get one since you are basically one of us now,” answered Terakawa.
“I like it,” said Zetsumei as he put in on. “Though it could use a sash or a cape or something extra. Hey I never asked, but what did you guys call yourselves.”
“We didn’t go by any name, but since this is a new beginning, you can come up with one if you wish.”
“I see. I’ll come up with something.” With his new outfit on, he once again headed for the door. Once on the other side, he looked back to see that the door had become just a cave wall again. With a swipe of his spirit-enveloped sword, Zetsumei ripped open a portal to Hueco Mundo. He stepped through to find himself in the all too familiar sands of Hueco Mundo.
In the far distance Zetsumei could see the towers of Las Noches. All that stood between him and Rimgar now was the long march towards the Hollow fortress. After a difficult hour long trek through the sand dunes, he came upon the white door of the ancient fortress. “Ye Lord! Mask of flesh and bone, all creation, flutter of wings, ye who bears the name of Man! Truth and temperance, Upon this sinless wall of dreams unleash but slightly the wrath of your claws! The 33rd Blue Fire Crash Down” A large burst of energy flew forth from Zetsumei and obliterated the door.
Stepping through the rubble, Zetsumei began walking down the hall. It wasn’t long before he came upon the very spot were it had all began. For whatever reason, Rimgar had never taken down the case. After a brief moment, Zetsumei continued on. Then suddenly he heard a low voice coming from around the corner. He pulled out his katana and glance around the edge. It was an Adjuchas. Zetsumei ran out from behind the wall. “White Lightning” A beam of electricity short forth from his finger and hit the Adjuchas in the back of the head. As it was stunned, Zetsumei came up behind it and severed its head. Stepping over the dead body, he kept going until he came to an opening. In front of him was the throne room. At the very top of a large pyramidal structure sat Rimgar upon his throne.
Zetsumei pointed his sword at strongest Vasto Lorde in existence and bellowed “RIMGAR!”

Chapter 8
Rimgar, from high atop his throne, glanced down at Zetsumei. His eyes reflected only hatred and destruction. Doing a back flip, he landed in front of Zetsumei. Then his eyes quickly turned towards the katana in Zetsumei’s hand. With a snarl, Rimgar said, “Filthy human how have you entered Hueco Mundo, and more importantly how have you come upon my sword.”
Zetsumei laughed before responding. “Ah, how soon we forget eh. I may appear different and trust me I have changed, but once I was your right hand man.”
For a brief moment Rimgar showed signs of being in shock. Then he said, “Zetsumei? Your mask is gone. You’re a human now. That’s strange. What is your business here. You don’t intend to fight me do you. I’m out of your league.”
“Firstly, I have become much stronger and I will kill you. Secondly, I am new human. I am a Shinigami, and this is no longer just a katana. It is my Zanpakuto, my Soul Slayer.”
A laugh echoed in Zetsumei’s head. It was Terakawa. “You took the naming thing a step further I see. Well it’s fine, but let’s get to work.”
Zetsumei grasped his sword and swung it at Rimgar. The Hollow King deftly blocked the attack with his forearm, which was enveloped in an aura of energy. For every strike Zetsumei delivered, Rimgar was able to block it with this tactic. Zetsumei knew he would have to change his strategy and catch Rimgar off guard. Dashing backwards, he launched a ball of energy at the Vasto Lorde. Rimgar quickly raised both arms to his face to block the attack. In that instant, Zetsumei rushed forward and managed to slash Rimgar across the right shoulder. As he screamed in pain, another attack was landed in the same spot.
Rimgar got to his feet, rushed at Zetsumei and threw three quick punches. Although, he was able to dodge the first two, the last one caught him right under the chin. Rimgar took the opportunity to throw a barrage of kicks and punches. The last kick to the gut sent Zetsumei crashing through a pillar and into the wall. Rimgar calmly walked over and looked down at the battered Shinigami. As he raised his claws for the final blow, Zetsumei raised his hand and shot a bolt of electricity into the raised hand. He then jumped up and flipped over the Hollow. As he did so he hacked of Rimgar’s right arm. While Rimgar crumpled to the floor, Zetsumei began to chant. “Sprinkled on the bones of the beast! Sharp tower, red crystal, steel ring. Move and become the wind, stop and become the calm. The sound of warring spears fills the empty castle!” A large mass of energy flew forth and struck Rimgar. Blood exploded from Rimgar as the energy made contact.
The Hollow King laid on the floor in a pool of his own blood, barely holding onto life. This was it. This was the chance Zetsumei had been waiting for. Putting his hands together he began to recite the words for the 75th binding. “Walls of ironsand, a priestly pagoda, glowing ironclad fireflies. Standing upright, silent to the end” Five stone pillars appeared out of nowhere and pinned Rimgar to the ground. Looking at his Zanpakuto, Zetsumei smeared some of the blood from his wounds on its tip. Looking down at the fallen Vasto Lorde, he recited the words that Terakawa had strung together. “Seken seisei, ichi seirei konki, taishite kontan wakarewakareni” Then upon the last word he struck Rimgar through the chest. Winds began to swirl around him and body of Rimgar began to disintegrate. For a brief second, Zetsumei could see into a new world. A world that was putting itself together. He had succeeded.
“You’ve done well,” congratulated Terakawa.
Zetsumei nodded as he opened a portal into the human world. He stepped through and looked down upon the villages below. Turning to his mentor, he said, “Well I reckon it’s time we clean this up, and find me some apprentices.” Terakawa nodded and then disappeared as he often did. Zetsumei slowly descended into the human world. This was it. This was the start of a new world, a better world.

Here it is Volume 2
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Prologue
After the defeat of the Hollow King, Zetsumei began a one-man crusade to improve the world of the living. Going from village to village, he killed Hollows and gathered pluses to the world he had created. Soul Society, as it came to be called, began as a small world. Until the pluses first came to it, it was simply wilderness. It was a wilderness composed of spiritrons. Once the pluses came, villages began popping up in Soul Society. Things were going as Zetsumei had planned. However, he still lacked apprentices to assist him in his mission. Every time he came to Earth he would search for pluses that were spiritually strong enough to undergo the Shinigami training. After a decade, he had managed to gather his first six students.
They were Kuchiki Soshu, Ukitake Kohei, Shiba Kazuki, Shihouin Takako, Kyoraku Natsumi, and Hosokawa Sayoko. They were perfect. They were everything Zetsumei was hoping for. They were strong, intelligent, brave, and willing to take on the challenges they would face as the first generation of Shinigami. Their training was much more elaborate than Zetsumei's because they had much more time. Zetsumei often looked to Terakawa for guidance as he taught his apprentices. Aside from teaching them what Terakawa's men had developed, he also built upon their knowledge. He added a vast amount of destruction type spells to what he named Kidou. All this and more were taught to these six.
His students everything he knew, everything except for his past. This he kept hidden from them. He was ashamed of his origins as a Vasto Lorde and feared that his students would lose faith in him if they knew. When asked about his origins, he would simply say that Terakawa's soul had miraculously found him and saved him. Although the answer didn't satisfy his students, they knew better than to continue questioning a touchy subject. Eventually the curiosity on the matter left their minds, and their issue was buried away in the depths of Zetsumei's soul.
Finally three years after they were found, their training was coming to an end. Soon they would become real Shinigami. Yet in the midst of their initiation, an event was about to unfold that not even Zetsumei and Terakawa could have foreseen.
Chapter 1
It was noon in Soul Society. In a hut located in a special area set aside for Shinigami, the six apprentices were in the last phase of their training. On this special day, they would be receiving their true Zapakutos. Inside the hut, the six of them leaned against the wall as Zetsumei gave his final lecture.
“Congratulations. You have all come very far. Now the moment that you have all been waiting for is here at last. On this very day you will become true Shinigami.” After these words Zetsumei whipped out his own Zapakuto. “It is time you get your own. Mine is simply a katana that I have wrapped my energy around. Yours shall be different. You shall all create your own. They will be a condensation of your own spirit energy. Just put forth your energy. Focus and it shall be made.”
“Why don’t you recreate your Zapakuto teacher,” asked Soshu.
“Although it would mean more strength, doing so would meaning casting aside Terakawa. That is not something I am willing to do,” answered the teacher.
The students nodded understandingly, and then proceeded to bring forth their Zapakutos. Soshu and Natusmi, the two strongest were able to do so within a half hour. After a few hours all six Zapakutos had been conjured. As they were a representation of their creators’ spirit energies they were rather larger than the average katana. Zetsumei was prepared and already had another solution.
“Since they represent your strength, you must limit how much energy you put into them. Otherwise they will slow you down in battle. In time we shall develop a way to limit powers without any trouble, but for now you must cap your energy.”
Refocusing their energies the Zanpakutos rapidly shrunk to a more average size. All was set and ready for their first mission. Zetsumei pulled out a map that had marks all over it. He pointed to them and said, “These mark the places where people are currently living. Where ever people live, there will be pluses and hollows. Your first mission is to go to this large village 500 miles away. Find all the pluses you can and defeat all hollows. Oh and before you go, there is one more thing. Kohei please step forward.”
Ukitake came and stood beside Zetsumei. “With the help of Kohei, an improved method of taking pluses to Soul Society has been developed. Before now, I would gather souls and escort them here. Now with this new method, Konsoh or Soul Burial, pluses can pass into Soul Society with our help, but without need for an escort. Together we developed a seal that would allow pluses to pass through. These seals will be placed on the bottom of your Zanpakuto for convenience. All that is needed to be done is to press the seal against the plus’s head. It leaves no mark whatsoever. This seal also has a dual usage. It can allow your Zanpakuto to purify Hollows. Although Hollows may appear evil, they are still souls and still need to be saved. That is all.”
Ukitake passed out a copy of the seal to his fellow students. Then they got to work on applying them. Once completed they stepped out of the hut. Sayoko opened up a portal to the human world. They stepped through, activated a new technique called Shunpo, and sped of to the destination of their first mission.

Chapter 2
The six of them came to a stop at the center of a large disheveled village. All around them was the distinct aura of Hollows. It was unmistakable. Nodding in agreement, they split up to search for pluses. Soshu headed north. It was from this direction, that the sense of Hollow was strongest. Then just ahead he saw a group of pluses running from a rather large Hollow. Soshu yelled out to the frightened souls. “Run here quickly. I’m on your side. I can help.” After a moment of doubt the souls came running up to him. Then they quickly hid behind him as the Hollow came charging forth.
Soshu was prepared. Grasping his Zapakuto, he braced for the attack to come. Then after the claws struck his blade, he launched a counterattack. Several quick blows to the arms and chest later and the Hollow was defeated. As he looked at the fallen Hollow, he wondered if it was really headed for Soul Society. Turning to face the pluses behind him, he said, “I’m going to take you to a better a place. It’s safer there and there aren’t Hollows to harm you.” He then proceeded to perform Konsoh on all of them. When he was done a group of black butterflies fluttered overhead for a moment before disappearing. Soshu wasn’t surprised. Kohei was a genius when it came to this type of thing. This would be very useful indeed.
Suddenly the negative energy produced by Hollows grew tenfold. Soshu rushed to the source of the energy. When he got there, he saw that his friends were already there. That wasn’t what surprised him though. There were two Menos Grandes right in front of them. As he was about to charge them, Kazuki and Takako held him back. “Don’t be stupid. You can’t take them on. Even all six of us couldn’t take on two Menos Grandes. We have to get back and get Zetsumei.”
“But by the time we get back this village will be gone,” Soshu argued.
“It will be either way. We’ll just get killed anyway. Only Zetsumei can take Menos on. We’re not up to that level yet,” reasoned Natsumi. Giving into common sense and his friends’ reasoning, Soshu agreed to go back and get help. They turned around and Shunpoed back to Soul Society. Their first mission had ended in a rather surprising way.

Chapter 3
The six novice Shinigami rushed through the doors of their teacher’s hut. They stood panting as Zetsumei came out of his room. He could tell that something had gone wrong. “What’s happened? What went wrong?”
Soshu answered, “There were two Menos Grandes. The others felt that we should come back and tell you. You have to get down there quick. Their gonna completely obliterate that village.”
“You were wise to come back here. The six of you may have been able to take down one, but two is way more than you can currently handle. Well let’s get going. This will be a good learning experience for you I’m sure.” Zetsumei grabbed his things and then accompanied his students back to the site of the attack.

When they got back a good portion of the village was already up in flames. Pluses were running around if fear. It was total chaos. Towering over it all were the two Menos responsible. This was going to be a cinch for Zetsumei. He rushed forward, unsheathed his Zapakuto (freshly branded with Kohei’s seal), and attacked the first one. He severed it’s left arm and then split it through the middle. Grasping his Zanpakuto with both hands, he split the second one asunder. Down below his students applauded his quick work of their teacher. However, they were rudely interrupted.
There was a high pitch laugh coming from where the Menos Grandes had just been. Zetsumei turned around and when he laid eyes on the Vasto Lorde, his jaw dropped. Images from when he was still a Vasto Lorde flashed through his mind. He couldn’t believe his eyes. Of all the Hollows he had met in the past, this was one he had never expected to see again. The Vasto Lorde flew straight at Zetsumei and came to a halt. “So the rumors are true. Zetsumei has turned into a filthy human who runs around killing Hollows.”
“How did you know it was me?”
“You may be human, but I’ll never forget you scent. Not after what you did to me. So many years I’ve been looking for you. Then after Rimgar died rumors started going around about you. Now after all this time, we meet again, old friend.”
Down below, Zetsumei’s students tried to make out what was being said. What they could hear left only more questions about their teacher’s past. What did this Vasto Lorde mean when he said that Zetsumei had turned human? Who was Rimgar? And did he say old friend? This time they wanted answers and they were going to get it. Just then more Hollows appeared, mainly Menos Grandes and Adjuchas. Zetsumei looked down at them and screamed, “RUN!”
