aches & pains
memory goes to pot
never have time to do things you want to do
people look at you like your not cool anymore when you do things you do enjoy like listening to the music you enjoy.
all your friends are gone..... either moved away or died off.
don't even remember what it is that you enjoy to do anymore.
main thing you get to look forward to is taking a nap:eek13:
can't remember how old you are half the time.
oh, and the list goes on, don't rush to grow up too fast.
is there anything about being your age that you like??????????

I can drink alcohol legally! That's the only plus. Oh...and stay out late without curfew. Some places in Cali have curfew...so if you're not 18+ you can't stay out past 10pm.

Do you mean that is an actually a law? I don't think so, I live in Cali, and I have never been busted or anything before...

The law in california is that if you're under 21...you can't drink or buy alcohol. However...that's not to say you can't drink alcohol at home or anything. Dood...I started drinking when I was 11. I'm just implying that I can drink and buy alcohol without getting introuble.

I LOVE MY AGE!!
parties and fun!! WOOOT!! all ages are fun if you don't take life to seriously. >.> which of course would never happen. but it is fun to think that way once in a while!! but then you always end up in crappy situations and what not!! but then why not enjoy life with no fear of consequence, as you could get hit by a bus tomorrow (why i always wear matching undies =D)
rambling! woops. i love my age because i love being young and running around with out wheezing, although smoking does make that a load of bull!!
well i can't think of all the stuff i can do right now! but there is a lot!!!

Growing older? or Growing old, theres 2 differents, growing older as in drink and get laid legally or growing old as in having a cane and walk 2 steps every minutes, or in a wheel chair. i pick the first one

I much prefer the amount of freedom (and responsibility) that I have now versus high school. I like growing up, but I'm scared to death to turn 30 (even though I have 10 years for that to happen.) I'd like to stay young (but not a kid) forever. :)

Yeah...I remember how when I was young I really wanted to grow up...and then now that I'm older...I wanna be young again. Funny how when you're younger you're in a rush to grow up and be older...then when you finally become old...you wish you were still a kid. Enjoy your youth guys while you still have it...once you're older...it's all a pile of stress. *sigh* I wish I was still in elementary or high school. Things were SO MUCH EASIER than how it is now. >.<;;; When you're older...you actually have to WORK...to get money to pay for the things you want (unless you're a spoiled rich kid)...and in order to actually get payed well...you have to finish school. Everyone says that college is the best time of their life...possibly...because you're not obligated to go to school and you can party all you want. But then again...if you don't go to school and get a degree...it's harder to find a good paying job...because all employers require at least a bachelors degree (and when I mean employers I don't mean the mall jobs and restaurants like McDonalds. I'm talking about the jobs that pay you $15/hr and up.)

What is so bad about taking responsibility for your own actions?
It's what all kids fear: responsibility. it's all okay when your only obligation is to go to school and have good grades, isn't it? When growing up people expect more from you, you have to do more things by yourself and for most kids that is frustrating. It was the same with me.

But it's something you have to clear with yourself. It's all part of growing up. The realization that you will soon have to take care of yourself and deal with all worries adults have (and trust me there is PLENTY) is as i have said, frustrating. The fact that you will once have to abandon most of the things you are obsessed too right now is an issue too. Liking games or anime isn't a fact of being an adult or not though.

But we carry a child inside us forever, no matter how old we are.

Growing up doesn't suck. It's a part of life. Once you accept that fact, all the possibilities that open to you are endless. i don't think I'm fully grown up myself. But I have done tremendous way and i am no longer burdened by the fact that i am actually turning 20 in one year and have a job and a school. I look forward to growing up. :)

There's nothing wrong with growing up...it's growing OLD...that's the problem. I don't know about you...but I'm not looking forward to all the genetic diseases that I might inherit from my family...not to mention...I'm not looking forward to looking older and getting wrinkles and having sagging skin. ehm well i'm in high school now, getting A levels and I think it will be much easier when you're grown up..
You don't have to go to school, but you have a job.
I don't know why people hate working, i think school's worse.
You can choose a job that you think is cool. I wan't to be be a doctor and i think I'll enjoy working when i become one.
When you're old you're independent, i hate to be financial dependent on my parents..
On the other hand, i have no idea what it's like to be grown up so I'm probably wrong XD
being 20-30 or so seems the coolest age to me

20 wasn't bad, 30 wasn't that bad either, but now that I'm coming up on 40 it's different story. I have the entire family depending on me for everything. ok not everything but it feel like a weighty responsibility most of the time. the whole "you get to choose the job you have" sounds good in theory but jobs change and with a family to support you can't just jump up and change jobs when ever you feel like it. a lot of time you get STUCK doing crap you don't want to do. without any obvious ways out. and god forbid you hurt yourself along the way(which I did) so you get to look forward to doing a BS job for years and years while you feel like shit, doing a job you can't stand and having people depending on you to keep doing the same old BS day in and day out with nothing to look forward to but getting old and not being able to do shit but watch TV and drool on yourself when and if you make it to retirement...................old, old sux.
how's that for an older view of getting older? no beating around the bush on that one....lol o.0

I seriously HATE college. It's all a bunch of crap. You have to take unnecessary classes that don't even coincide with your major...just to graduate. Then...since it's up to you to pass your classes...if you mess up and decide to be lazy and not attend...because you can...and don't wanna go to class...(sometimes) you end up failing the class and having to do it over again. And that whole...it takes 2-4 years to finish college is a whole bunch of crap...at the most...you'll probably finish college in 4 1/2 to 5 years...if you really bust your ass (meaning...taking no winter or summer breaks). *sigh* I wish I was still in elementary and high school...God...the classes were soooooo much easier...and even if you didn't work hard in class...they'd still pass you...lol.

wow, this is the exact opposite of a thread I started, "Is being young overrated"?

Personally, I don't think old ages suck as much as most people think; in fact, I think being a young adult is totally overrated. Being old is a bit underrated.

Some good things about being old: social security pays you, you don't ever have to work again, and any civilize being will respect your experience and knowledge in life.

respectfully I say, I will have paid into the system my entire life and there is a strong possibility it won't even be there when I should receive it.
as for the not having to work again, tell that to the poor smuck working at Wal-Mart as a greeter.
the only way you get to look forward to not working is if you plan for it or if you are with a outfit who has a good retirement. Just because you hire in with a place who has a retirement doesn't mean they will keep it till YOU retire. (mine sure as heck didn't) look out for yourself, invest, or do what ever it takes to take care of you. I fear for the future and what it hold for people your age. If it bit me in the butt, I can only imagine what "looking out for that bottom line" will mean for you guys.
I notice you threw in there the "civilized", unfortunately the number of people like that are getting less and less.
Who knows, hopefully the trend will turn around.

Hmmm...now-a-days...social security isn't enough to pay for living expenses and to support a person when they're retired. The cost of living has escalated so high in the world...especially California that one can't even consider to depend on social security. Now...social security is just chump change.

Hey, at least when you get older, you get more experience in life. Think about it: you're in a lawsuit that could cause you to lose millions of dollars; who would you rather hire, a young and inexperience lawyer, or an older and much more experience lawyer? You're having a surgery that could cost you your life. Which surgeons do you want, young ones or experienced ones?

You mean you get both an experience and inexperience doctor/lawyer? Huh... well, I figure most people would say "older and more experience" one.

shaberry
06-17-2007, 06:08 PM
But how do you expect to get "a more experienced" person...if you don't give the inexperienced person a chance? Just because you're older doesn't exactly mean you're more experienced.

Guy
06-17-2007, 08:58 PM
It usually does. So are you saying you would hire a young person if you were in such situation?

shaberry
06-18-2007, 09:49 AM
I'd like someone with experiece...however...I wouldn't just base my judgement on age. I know alot of people who are older than me...and I'm more experienced than they are. For example...in my nursing program there are alot of people who are easily 5-10 years older than me...however...they're just as inexperienced or less than I am. Not trying to brag here...but I do a way better job than most of the old people in my clinicals (on-floor nursing training in the hospitals).

So...basically...that's why I say...age technically doesn't mean that you're more experienced. It's what you do with your time and your resources that make a person experienced.

But also...like I said earlier...technically in the medical field...you can't really pick and choose who's going to provide your care...you're basically assigned to whichever nurse or doctor is available.

Seeing this Thread makes me think that whoever came up with this thread must be an emotionally suicidal teenager whose afraid to grow up, simply I put these words to him/her, "Grow up and face reality, No one can be an immortal"

Going older is actually a good thing for everyone, the older you get the more responsibilities you will have and with these responsibilities will make you more mature and fruitful. Going older helps develop your brain and your thinking skills making you to have more in depth way of thinking, you get more experiences and with these experiences they will get you good or help you get jobs in the future.

Growing old doesn't necessarily mean you die faster, this is reality you can die anytime and anywhere, don't ***** or whine about age and say we're dying faster as we get old if thats the case then why are there infant mortality rates. Reality is real face it or just commit suicide if you hate growing old.

Sure it has its downside, common life and reality is all about overcoming the downsides.
Although I agree with what you said, I believe that this thread focuses more on disillusioning the younger cb members on what they fantasize growing older may be like. Or, it could possibly just be for purposes of complaining about the downsides of aging. Personally, I don't think there's anything wrong with complaining, just as long as you do something about it.

And your comment about "whine about age and say we're dying faster as we get old if thats the case then why are there infant mortality rates." I personally think that comparing infant mortality rates to old age and dying faster is irrelevant and doesn't even coincide on the same level. The only similarity they share is death. The reason why there are infant mortality rates are because mother's now-a-days are giving birth at an older age, which increases the risk for still-birth and for abnormalities. Not to mention, at the same time, there are mothers who don't take care of themselves while they are pregnant (ex: doing drugs). Also, at the same time, it seems that mothers (in this current time) are also becoming younger, because children are having sex at such a young age, and since they're so young, they "aren't able to take care of their babies," so they resort to abortion. However, abortion applies to girls and women alike. Not to mention, miscarriages. A female's body isn't perfect, so there are times when the body can't support a fetus, and the child dies before birth or during development.

On the other hand, people don't technically die faster as they get old. Some people are actually dying at a later age now. It's what you do with your body and your genetics that decide if you die faster or live longer. Infant mortality has nothing to do with aging, on the infant's part. The only way age applies to infant mortality rates is if the mother is too old to be giving birth.

aches & pains
memory goes to pot
never have time to do things you want to do
people look at you like your not cool anymore when you do things you do enjoy like listening to the music you enjoy.
all your friends are gone..... either moved away or died off.
don't even remember what it is that you enjoy to do anymore.
main thing you get to look forward to is taking a nap:eek13:
can't remember how old you are half the time.
oh, and the list goes on, don't rush to grow up too fast.
is there anything about being your age that you like??????????
ROFL

I dread the day I get old...
turning 18 is no biggie... until you realise that you'll be 20 in a few.

I currently enjoy everything that's modern in our generation... also the enjoyment of spending time to do things you enjoy and CAN enjoy at a young age.

I hope I don't get old too soon :\

Drinking legally when you're 21? wtf =o where do you live? Utah or something?
do you mean you can't drink strong alcoholic drinks or aren't you even allowed to drink beer before you're 21? That surprises me i thought the alcohol policy here was strict but the legal drinking age is 16.

anyway I don't know if growing older really sucks as hard as some of you say, i guess i'll find out soon (i'm 16 now) but i can hardly imagine it is a bad as some say. unless you get past 50 or something..

I think it'll be great to be an adult since you have much more freedom and you arent financially dependent on anyone

Jay3205
06-24-2007, 07:44 PM
^^ The legal "age for alcohol" is 21; the national law for it was passed in 1984. Granted there are certain situations when it is allowed (i.e. medical or religious purpose, in private clubs/homes under strict supervision), but the legal age is still 21. Some states at most can charge you for "possession of alcohol" and not the actual drinking of it, but the law is still national and applies in your area...

Anyways, it's funny how all the younger members are saying "it couldn't be that bad" while the older ones are opposite. Though I'm still in my teen years, I can see why "growing older sux". As a kid, your life is basically your 5-6 hours of school... after that you are free to go with your friends, party, drive around, and do whatever. Even if you rebel against your parents, you will still get your needs met like food, shelter, etc. As an adult, you are financially independent though you are likely sacrificing 9+ hours a day to do so. On top of that, you suffer the actions of your consequences, which are worse than the mere "You can't drive for a month" that parents give to their children.

Which side of the earth do you live in to drink at 21 ? The age limit here is 18 how come over there is damn high ?

Just like the other's have mention growing older is a joy since there are many things that we can such as smoking, drinking and other enjoyable stuff that legal people can do such as watching porn films at the cinemas.

I NEVER wanted to get older... even when I was a little kid. I'm 19 and not looking forward to turning 20. If I could I'd go back to like 7 or something. As far as what I like... I like the freedom I have to stay out as late as I want and with whoever I want. Being old enough to have a job is nice, because you don't get some measly allowance.... you can actually make a good amount of cash. And college is just SO much better than high school.

-[+POPS+']20 wasn't bad, 30 wasn't that bad either, but now that I'm coming up on 40 it's different story. I have the entire family depending on me for everything. ok not everything but it feel like a weighty responsibility most of the time. the whole "you get to choose the job you have" sounds good in theory but jobs change and with a family to support you can't just jump up and change jobs when ever you feel like it. a lot of time you get STUCK doing crap you don't want to do. without any obvious ways out. and god forbid you hurt yourself along the way(which I did) so you get to look forward to doing a BS job for years and years while you feel like shit, doing a job you can't stand and having people depending on you to keep doing the same old BS day in and day out with nothing to look forward to but getting old and not being able to do shit but watch TV and drool on yourself when and if you make it to retirement...................old, old sux.
how's that for an older view of getting older? no beating around the bush on that one....lol o.0

well your still years younger than I am and so far I don't consider myself old as your portraying it.

there are positives like women our age are past most of the youthful hang ups so talking sex is perfectly natural.

yes we have to provide for our lives but we also decide what we want in life and have the freedom to do with our lives whats necessary to achieve it even with limiting circumstances if your motivated enough you can do what you want to.

I decided I wanted to start riding Motorcycles again so I saved up and got one I still enjoy being able to drive at over 140 miles/hr I guess the real difference is I have the experience to know when and where I can without risking others or tickets.

another plus is at my age I don't have to go back to a war zone (Rwanda 93-94) thats one thing I don't want to repeat.

also another plus at our age we own things we're not just getting into the mass debt game we're at the its payed off stage.

if all you look at is the worst case scenario then your very likely to "get what you wished for"

I'm raising a soon to be teenager with two more one the way up age wise. They are facing extradoraire things that I can only imagine yet would not wish for even at my own age. But back to being 18, i like the freedom that comes with going to college but i hate the stress that comes with going to college. at a certain time, it does cause you have to do thing that grown ups do which probably you haven't and it takes time to be used to it..

but as you grow older, parent tend to trust you more.. they tend to let you live your life provided you don't do anything to make them upset. growing older help make you learn certain things that are useful in the future.

example; you learn to make money, when you were young, mommy and daddy give you money but when you grow up, you make your own money and learn that making money is difficult and you will learn how to save it...

same like relationship, when you get older you will know what you like in a person and what you don't like, you become more socialize and know different kind of people..

though i have to say, 18 has been the best year of my life thus far.... being an adult definitely opens different windows of opportunity for you. like going to other side of the country with your friends, being able to just up and out whenever you feel like it, being capable to do whatever you want whenever you want (as long as you're financially able) feels good. being older does have its perks though it's a trade off.

Kenji

Well I personally think that this way of thinking is a little immature, since responsibilities are what is needed in our world.

One thing keeps the other in order, Cops keep criminals in order for instance.
If a single part of the chain becomes weak because of not wanting responsibilities the entire chain will fall apart.

Even if I do enjoy being 16, I really want to grow up so I can move out of the house and start my own family and make my parents proud.

ProtoFunc

Well I personally think that this way of thinking is a little immature, since responsibilities are what is needed in our world.

^lol.. you can say disliking responsibility is immature when you actually have it. no doubt it's necessary and everybody should do their part efficiently and effectively, but there's nothing wrong with missing the good old days when you had less of it.

more responsibility means more accountability. this means the bigger the tree, the harder it falls. in some cases there's little to no room for error, which means you ultimately get screwed in the end if you mess up. now of course there are upsides to responsibility (ie. opportunities, financial benefits, accomplishments, etc.) but as mentioned before, it's a trade off.

bottom line, i disagree. i don't think having car payments and wishing that you didn't is immature. does that mean you're not gonna make the payments (on time especially)? no, you just wish you didn't have them =)
