why myspace, why? T_T
does anyone have myspace here?
if he's sending this as a joke, we have to reject him.
well i looked at his space and you lot are right, he does not seem to have any that are unedited, cept about people, like steph and his dad in 'alien eye form'
so yeah i guess its no.
wow, this is going to be our first rejection. shall i tell him to get some pictures of the natrual world and reapply?

I don't use myspace, so I can't see any pictures he has. Ask him for more pictures about different subjects and to upload them somewhere else.
alright will pm him now. btw, if i am not online and you can see other ppl saying we need more pics, post in here that you will pm him like kens did for the other one and pm the person so it helps everyone. thanks.
I have a myspace account, but I don't really use it, and it seems my workplace has instituted some new MySpace blocking procedures (I been immune to their previous efforts). But yeah, if all he has is goofy pictures of his homies drawn on with MS Paint I don't want to see them.
Edit: Psycic powers are still working. I'm home now, and that's exactly what they were.

well, we usually accept all applicants because they tried their best to get the best photos possible. i assume that you all pm him already about more pics and stuff. if he doesn't want to cooperate, then (obviously) we can reject him.
I thought all photos had to be undoctored (besides basic cropping, maybe light color/level corrections), otherwise you're judging someone based on their design skills, not photography skills

Well, there is called...digital photography w/ graphics.
It's not about the anime gfx. It's (obvoiusly) totally different. It's of course to improve the composition, lighting, burning, dodging. It's an advice way to improve photographs than just simply doing it in the darkroom. Fortunately, most people (here) knows their stuff.
It's like icing in the cake...
...Yes. Photograph Skills and Design Skills are totally...different. But with design skills, it helps what we can see in the photograph. It doesn't have to be...that good...really.
...There are other people who don't know much about this stuff...like me *ahem*... But for me, I judge based on what and how they can do. Some photos catch our attention so well - that we usually accept it at instant. And then, we totally forget to judge it.
...That's why you notice that there are people are not skilled enough, at least they tried their efforts to do it.
- edit -
my b + w photos went through the darkroom and it was hard for me especially when dodging and burning...manually. at least, i put my efforts into it and it took me an hour to process and print my b + w photo by myself.
- edit -
...that is straight photography.

Digital editing is a touchy subject with a lot of people I know. Many people have discussed with me how they think that digital editing is the easy way out and how it shows absolutely nothing about a person's skills in photography. It shows that someone can use software, not that they now how to use a camera and compose a piece of art. A lot of professional photographers who work with film choose to show the edge of the film in the print or create contact prints (when working with larger formats) to show that they didn't need to edit the composition in the dark room. You can in the dark room almost everything you can do while working digitally (I mean how do you think the programmers of the software came up with all of the effects you can put in?) except you really have to know how it works and why it effects the print in a certain way.
Then again, this isn't really the point of the discussion here.
I haven't seen this applicant's work (as I previously stated), but from what I gathered from what people have said in here, it doesn't sound like he's taking photographs.
The first thing I learned in the very first photography class I ever took 4 or 5 years ago was the difference between a photograph and a snapshot. Example- a snapshot would be when someone whips out their camera phone and takes a picture of some of his friends giving a thumbs up. A photograph requires attention to detail, lighting, composition, artistic intent, etc.
In my opinion, if someone isn't even attempting to move away from taking snapshots, then they're not working towards taking good pictures or becoming a photographer.
Also, even if we do accept edited work, there is a difference between paying careful attention to how you want to ENHANCE the photograph and just drawing over it (as someone said the applicant was doing.)

I was actually talking with Yukoshi_Kin in PM about this just now (because I didn't want to spam up an applicant thread with it), and you pretty much sum up my feelings on it.
Is there a "mission statement" for this club? Because I guess I'm not sure how we're supposed to be judging each other's work or how much digital voodoo is considered "acceptable" here and some guidelines on how we're defining "photograph" would be good.

well yeah but is also unfair to the digital photographers how don't have access to darkrooms and all that stuff, especially when they want to make their shots more special (say make the photo just a bit brighter because of the light).
My teacher says you can use stuff like brightness/contrast cause it's still part of photography- just digitally.
anyway this applicant...hrrm...I usually stay away from this myspace thing, and this page just makes me ehh...>_>..i can't find his photos though, but from what i hear dthat he doesn't take it seriously (and looking at his page, he doesn't look serious at things =/) then as Orihime says it-
I REJECT!

Jeez, that myspace link is horrible. If he is so lazy he can't even uplaod his pictures properly, then i vote NO. (I can cope with DA or PhotoBucket) but this doesn't show that he REALLY wants to get in to me.
So, I vote NO.

...actually, I agree with this. and she's right :biggrinlo
I just can't explain it better.
nx6. As for the mission statement of this club, we don't have it right now. However, we need to create rules in this club...and we don't have it yet so far. I'm not really the founder of this club , but i'll create the thread and you can all help me to suggest any specific rules.
- edit -
but if I am, then i should come up with the rules in the first place.
by the way, there is a new thread where members can suggest the rules.
...just check it out.
yeah ill go with the majority, ill reject him for now and i pmmed him tellilng him to get some variety in his pics.

I couldn't find any pics on the link, but it may be that I don't have myspace... :S
But about the judging... I think that it depends on the person.. and the photography. some may need a bit more editing and some may be perfect at the start...
The only editing I do with my photo's are to give them a frame. A friend of mine puts different patterns, text etc into the photo's....

I posted a screenshot further up the page so you could still see them, but yeah, this is pretty much a landslide No already.

Agreed.
No.
Not only are those snapshots, but in my opinion they border (cross into) the world of GFX... though even then not very good.
