has anyone here seen the Movie Hotel Rawand?
if you have i want to see everyones opinion about the issue with the hutus and tutsie (bad spelling i dunno how to spell it)
i learned from my teacher that the rawanda genocide hasn't really ended
its still going on in the Congos because all the tutsies escaped there to avoid certain death and are now in the refugee camps
unfortunaly the prejudice is still there
the hutus also escaped to the camps and the fighting broke out again
now there are over 6 million dead hutus in the Congos and surrounding areas
6 million
its just a number but it should mean more than that
why haven't the news ever talked about the horrendous things in affrica?
why only afghanistan? only iran, and other countires
why did that stupid genocide happen?
why is it still happening?
Why is the UN doing little to nothing about it?

WHY? thats the biggest question
i don't mean to be pessimistic but i really think this is the truth
nothing is being done because what we see on the news is not problems we deal with on a regular basis
we'll see it on the news and say "oh thats horrible!" and go straight back to eating our dinners
t
hats true for everyone in our class aswell even though its difficult to admit, after watching hotel rawanda most of us in our class eventually went on with our day....

its sad
i wonder if human beings will ever be able to accomplish something in this world worthwhile
some people say that its more important to save those that we can when we can't save everyone

its true the helper, but what if we were the ones born in rawand, the ones under persecution faced with murder, rape or guns. if we were all in that situation, who out of all of us would volunteer to die?
this world isn't fair
i understand that ranting right now will do nothing but i want other peoples opinion on the matter.
are human beings ever going to change
when will we start doing something about all the violence in the world?

i dunno if we ever will.
watching that movie just reinforced my opinion that the government around the world are all assholes
the UN eventually sent troops after they withdrawed troops from Rawanda during the genocide
but by then a million corpses were already rotting on the roads

what do you guys think?

I was there in 93-94 as a Canadian peace keeper lets just say its not a subject I feel like discussing in depth in a forum. by the time we left over 800,000 dead in country 2.5 million fled across the border and yes I've waded through the dead because it was part of the job we had to do.I've never seen the movie don't want to either its not something I want to relive in a theater or sitting watching a DVD theres rarely all the horror of something like what happened there in a movie no matter how well done and they can't know everything because they only get a small perspective to go by. theres no way they can get across the changes that occurred in our mission from the moment the plane went down or when the Belgians were killed or how pissed we were that the US was diddling around about the cost of renting equipment we needed yesterday.

that is entirly true
i've never been there first hand and i realize a movie can never retell the real thing
but even if 1/10 of the movie was true its worth watching for people who are completely ignotrant to the actual situatuion
that was truely one of the sadest movie's i've ever seen so i can hardly imagine how bad the real thing was,
i cannot say i understand the situation, but i stil do think something needs to be done if the same thing is still going on
but i understand what you are saying....
who would want to face that massacre?...
its too sad, frustrating, and too horrendous to even think about..

the human mind can't grasp just how large the death toll was and how sadistic humans can be unless you've witnessed it or something similar.

I was part of it and even when we were at risk I'd never say I was able to know the fear the people there were suffering knowing they were going to die
with their friends and families as well. we helped as many as we could considering how gelded our numbers were yet it was almost futile because so many could not be helped no matter how much we tried.
