Thats a freefall ride...

Roller coasters are safe, safer than crossing the street, but that does suck =/.
That reminds someone from a band trip hit their hand on a beam on Flight of fear (fun ride though).

Now i wanna go to Kings Island and Cedar Point :rolleye09

Blader.

lol a Major Amusement park, had mal functions, I always thought they were safe :p and it wasn't a weather problem either, and btw trust me once you get on the roller coaster after shivering like hell in line, its actually fun, i always feel like going again but the line is always to big, so I move on....

I don't cross the street either.

Then again, I don't have to, since there aren't any sidewalks here... :)

You know its actually safer to ride a rollercoaster than it is to sit at home? True fact. Thats just one of those rare occasions I guess

Same here. If I was terrified before I really am now. I went to Six Flags in Dallas..I screamed..a lot. After this, I'm never getting on a roller coaster or free fall ride again.

I guess roller coasters aren't for everyone, but i wouldn't let a freak accident stop me from riding them.

Same here.
Most people aren't actually afraid of the heights themselves but actually falling, even though I know I'm safely secured I still get afraid, but thats the fun of the thrill to some.
Personally, I don't mind them, but they make my stomach upsetl

its also pretty safe to put a loaded gun to your head and not pull the trigger. Do I still want to do it?

bit of an extreme example but then you're just pulling statistics out of your ass so i think its justified ;)

No it doesn't. It means you get to cut everyone now so you would love them more :)

So a girl was unlucky and her legs were chopped off. It wont stop me from riding on the super duper thriller rides. Its like a hobby of mine...They're too enjoyable to give up. I'm willing to take the risk.

My dream is to go on one of those rides at the top of skyscrapers =P

dude dont be sucha a baby
roller coasters are the shit
its such a adrieniline rush
and its one of the only good ones kids under 18 can do
i dont think u can go sky diving till ur 18 or 21
idk when u can get ur pilot liscence
and they prolly dont let u go base jumping unless ur 18 aswell

so rollercoasters are good enough for now

Guy
06-23-2007, 07:07 PM
Heh, it seems like this didn't discourage some people. Lol, well, I guess Six Flags need to stay in business, eh? I can imagine a lawsuit coming up from the girl's family.

Rorschach
06-23-2007, 07:15 PM
Why should it? It's a freak accident, if it's gonna happen, so be it, shit happens. :whatevah:

Guy
06-23-2007, 07:26 PM
Lol, wow, Semprini, how brave of you. Well, good for you, but this article certainly convinced me to never go on another roller coaster ride again. I went on it once, and I had a huge back-ache afterwards.

Miyagi Rikku
06-23-2007, 07:47 PM
The only way you can get someone to be scared of it or stop riding those kind
of rides is when you, yourself gets into the freak accident. :P

Guy

Well, whatever, I'm sticking to the old saying, "better safe than sorry".

When you think about it, yes, all rides are prone to malfunction. This isn't that bad though, could've been worse!

I bet it's going to be fun going through all the design specs of this ride to determine if it was six flags fault for having the ride on, maintenance scheduling, etc. or if it a design problem.

Sue mode engaged.

Roller coasters are amazing! And I've road the free fall ride The Scream at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in San Antonio. It's an amazing ride. It saddens me that people suddenly don't want to ride roller coasters because of a free fall ride accident. About the only accidents that occur in amusement parks are on free fall rides. Not roller coasters. Roller coasters are incredibly safe. Strong as hell and checked everyday. :biggrinki Don't let someone else's freak accident stop you from riding roller coasters. Roller coasters are great. As for free fall rides, I like the view more, so go to the Eiffel Tower for a view. :)

Otherwise if you want the sensation ride a roller coasterthey are great and safe.

I never like free falls, i always felt that something would malfuntion with those rides, anyway, that is very, very unfortunate for her.

I'm not actually paranoid! :)

Actually you are very paranoid since there is a one in one-and-a-half billion chance of being fatally injured, and that the injury rates for children's wagons, golf, and folding lawn chairs are higher than for amusement rides.

Are you scared of folding lawn chairs too? :Haha

Not to mention that that article is not about a rollercoaster.

Meh, I feel sorry for the poor footless - not legless, as some keep saying - girl. However…

Statistically, roller coasters are very safe. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Product_Safety_Commission) estimates that 134 park guests required hospitalization in 2001 and that fatalities related to amusement rides average two per year.
Source: Wikipedia Article: Roller coaster

motorcycles accounted for 10 percent of all fatalities on U.S. roads in 2005. Source: Motorcycle Injury Statistics Article (http://www.motorcycleinjurylawyers.com/rcstats.html)

So, I'm actually safer on a roller coaster than a motorcycle, statistically. Motorcycles are helaciously more fun, though, IMHO. :p

i like riding on motorcycles though i feel like i might fall off sometimes! i dont plan to ride a roller coaster since i dont want to take any chances!

I was always scared of such rides, but now many years later I go on every ride available.

I love roller coasters, even though I freak out on heights where I am not secured somewhere.

I think too many people are scared of these things just because they have never been on them before, but who knows.

Oh, and Final Destination 3 sucked, so that should never be a reason.

I've Twice been on at the time the worlds tallest coasters (Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster). I even sat in the front seat on the Former, fucking amazing.
