If you haven't watched the entirety of Death Note and/or wish to be unspoiled on its ending, please press your back button NOW!

You have been warned!

-------------------------

Alright, the Death Note ride is over...how do you all feel about the series as a whole? Did it meet your expectations? Exceed them? Or was Death Note just like any average anime you've seen?

For you manga readers, how do you feel about the exclusion of some of the manga content? Did it affect your viewing experience at all? The ending in the anime deviated somewhat from the manga, excluding the mountain scene (which showed that Kira really did make an impact) and such.

What ever the case may be, Death Note was an overall well done anime (to me at least). Although a bit stumped by its 37 episodes, what the writers left in made the anime move along heart thumpingly faster and a bit more exciting. I would have loved for it to be a bit longer, but it's too late for that now.

Your turn, folks.

I started watching Death Note since the 2nd episode was released, some of the episodes i felt were alittle tedious when compared to the beter episodes in the series. I really can't fault the animation which really added alot to the series.

I honestly didn't mind some of the changes made to the anime eg. when L died for instance, thought the whole thing in the rain added more to L's character and made it a slightly more emotional end to L's life. The ending in episode 37 was well done too, i do miss the whole mountain seen showing that Kira did make a difference and will be remembered but yeah wasn't too bad.

I would give the anime series a 8.5/10

This is like the Trigun anime.A butchered version of the manga.Matt's and Mello's characters are totally made a joke of.The anime skips so much, alot of the parts don't make sense in the last few episodes.

The ending is just like Trigun's anime ending(you hype up Knives to get him beat in 5 mins, and Legato's character was raped, great job animators) a joke of the manga's.

Where the hell is the aftermath?

Great anime, good concept, fairly solid characters/animation, and its rather intelligent. I did hate the ending, not the way it was executed, but i am just a big Light fan, lol. I agree with G3nera about the mountain scene and everything.

Overall, i'd give Death note around an 8.5-8.9. It was very memorable and i am certainly glad i watched all of it. :)

@Rebel - u dont need an epic fight scene to finish off every anime. Trigun's ending was terrific imo. But lets keep the conversation on Death Note.

Death Note overall was a great series and I don't regret seeing it. I started watching this anime last March and well I instantly got hooked (and that rarely happens). DN gave me something to watch over the course of the Summer and I really enjoyed watching it. I will never forger such memorable characters like L and Light. They, along with the anime's production team were the reasons why this anime was so good. And unlike Aizen, I really liked the ending since I was against Light from the start. I'd give Death Note 8.9/10 mainly because I think it went downhill after L died.

I loved loved loved loved loooovveeeeeededededed the anime <3 The animation was incredible, and they pretty much sticked to the manga till the last few episodes. It would've been absolutely perfect had they not cut out the scenes where Mogi/Aizawa really interact more with Near and the SPK, all the scenes were Near acctually gave some THOUGHT before jumping to his conclusions, and then all of Matt scenes >.> I would've really liked all of Matt's scenes to be in there... Because only sticking him in that one episode did him no justice.

The ending, yeah i kinda wish they kept the epilouge in there but atleast they hit it on a very high dramatic note, I HOPED that Light would've died that horribly painful death he did in the manga, cuz he looked a little more peaceful there in the anime XPP At first I thought NEAR was gonna write his name down X_X

I already read it online but I just bought the final VIZ version of the manga yesterday, now I can take it all with me wherever and read it <3

Manga: 9.5/10
Anime 8/10 - It was rushed in some places, cutting out tons of scenes to fit the episode quota, but still nevertheless a great show.

MIKAMI'S DEATH SCENE GETS A 140004698943543968/10! :D

I can not even believe it is over for my part. I love and simply adore the anime
and manga itself. I never even thought for one that I would buy the manga
from the bookstore upon seeing it. It took me some time to pick up the manga
from the bookstore shelf then I one day I just went on with it and it got me
addicted. Knowing that is also being aired as an anime made it even better.

The series would have been much more an impact if they have not cut off alot
of scenes from the manga then maybe the non-manga readers would have
understood it better but it is too late now what is done is done and I think over
all it was alright anyway even if they cut off the scenes just that sometimes
there would be comtemplating "why this and that" because it was not fully
explained to its extent.

When I finished the manga online, currently my manga collection in RL is only
1-5 and 10-11. When I finished it reading it online I was living to the expectation
of Light carrying every second of his death in the anime, I wanted it to end as
if he was still evil though anime changed that and kinda reverted him back from
what I have understood. It was a shock to me when I read the manga ending
I never knew he would go crazy and beg help from Ryuk but Ryuk disapproved
and killed Light then he started to beg for his life. He even called out Mikami's
help and Misa's but it was futile.

Though I kinda don't like the part that almost everyone died except Near.
L died, Matt and Mello died, Light died, Misa died, Takada died, Mikami died (hence anime wise). Though I knew it was an inevitable event anyway. Over all I love/d
the anime. For some tad reason I wanted to cry when I saw Light's face after
the credits but I just don't know. I felt as if he was at peace but did not want
to go yet. Repentance I guess. I kept thinking it over night last night before I
went to bed, I was kind of disappointed that he died way and not my expectations
but after thinking I could say now that I have accepted now on how he died
even if it was manga based.

Manga: Over 9000
Anime: 8/10

Wtf are you talking about, Matt, he was in like a few manga chapters, it's virtually impossible to butcher his character. The anime was able to sum up the boring ass notebook switchings in a few minutesm how is that bad? The anime ending is slightly better then the manga ending, the manga ending sucked ass, at least in the anime Light died with a little dignity.

So I'll post as long as I don't catch on up the manga aswell. (now at "Just as planned")

Overall, for me, its definetly an over avarage anime.
The story by itself elevates it over the avarage. But it was made with such art (even if budget-type quality drops as in all animes) and was carried out with such tense episodes included, I don't think it'll be a while when I can enjoy an anime of this intellectual kind again. Given I never saw many of this kind, comparing it to something like Spiral makes laugh at myself (and that horrible anime aswell). (edit: oh and I don't count code geass into this kind :) )
So if something is truly unique, the art&animation is good, the characters aren't clichéd to death (mostly) and doesn't rely on the deus ex machina much, its bound to be something worth to remember to. (exclude: Near, you are the cancer thats killing Death note, die)

What I'm a bit disappointed in, is the samuraiflashwriting scenes, and Near but you know that alrdy. When I would love to say that "hey outsider, watch this anime and say that its a cartoon like tom&jerry again, but only after you've caught up with the thoughtlines", these completly stupid scenes while looking cool etc just butcher my proving point. :(

I'll review this once I've finished the manga. (and got through the parts, that according to you guys got altered in the anime)

Edit: Oh, btw I think this thread is better fit to be the sticky of the anime section now that there won't be more episodes, so if you don't mind.

What can I say about Death Note?
Even when I like almost any kind of anime, even if is shoujo, I've been always more interested with animes with more "complex" plots, first was Evangelion, later Lain, then Ergo Proxy, and then I've discovered Death Note.
Even since the first episode, it seemed interesting to me raising the dilemma of "what is real justice?", and that catch me.
We got L and Raito, two opposite sides which represents two different ways of justice, and they two claiming that they, themselves, are justice. So, I've started to think "which one is right?, which one is real justice?"
Maybe I got too much into plots like these, but I begun to re-think a lot of concepts about how our own personal morality makes us build our own sense of justice and how that sometimes differs from what is generally taken as "right" or "wrong", you know, what is taken as "politically correct".
At the end of the anime, I've couldn't help but feel sorry for Raito because, for trying to do what he thought was right, he lost his sanity after commiting all those so-called "sins" and end up how he did... I guess that, in some way, he actually became some kind of religious image by doing a big "sacrifice" like that for reach his goal of the utopia.
But anyway, beyond that the whole story kept me hooked because of the almost constant twisted reasoning of the main characters and how, in almost every episode, were happening surprising things (L's death, the most shocking to me).
Talking now on the technical aspect of the anime... I think that the character's design was perfect, the animation is just great and I just love the dark atmosphere of the whole anime.

Now, if I coulds rate it, it'll be 9,5/10 :p

Overall it was a good anime, although when L died, Near and Mello just couldn't compare, but it does help that I am a major L fan. And I agree with G3nera, the rain scene added a lot of emotion and drama to L's character. I found the ending good but a little disturbing. I give DN a 8.9. L ROCKS!

This series is very cool and the story is amazing. This has to be one of my favorite anime series so far. The saddest episode has to be when L and Light died. It was sad to see Light die and go out like that. When L died I wanted Light to lose, but the way Light lost was just wow so dramatic. Overall I'm pleased on how the series ended and it ended with a bang literally and had drama. Great series.

Good anime. Solid plot, ok characters, nice animation. It's pretty intelligent, so that's a plus. There were some pacing issues imo, but nothing that ruined the experience. Most of all, it was memorable.

I loved the anime. I thought it was well made, good choice of voices, great storyline, good music and great animation.

They didn't stretch out the plot too long, and managed to create some sort of suspense in majority of the episodes.

The story was a great concept, instead of 2 guys charging with all their energy and such. There was also good elements of action. They managed to create the story in a way, that there wasn't really a good guy, and all sides could be adored, loved and admired for different aspects.

The portrayal of Light, L and other characters were well done. With a good choice of voices for each characters, and the actual characters themselves.

They did a good job.
A really good job.

9/10

(I hope for a Death Note 2.)

All I got to say to this is......................................LOL!Go back to your cave,or go to GameFaqs. They'll love you there with their daily troll orgies. If there is one thing I noticed about Club Bleach,is it's almost non-existant amount of trolls. So you'll have to build a cave.

I forgot to add my rating as well.

Death note part 1 gets a 9/10

Death note part 2 gets a 6.5/10

When L died it just all went downhill,I was hoping the anime could keep it interesting at that part, but oh well.

as i read the manga way before the anime ended, i can say that i wasn't completely satisfied with the anime's ending. i liked the added dramatic touch to it, but i still enjoyed Kira's final moments in the manga. the mountain scene wasn't that significant for me, and that lady who appeared was never explored even in How to Read 13 anyway. and i think that part where Mikami stabbed himself was silly, even if to just provide a distraction for Light to run away.

in its entirety, i liked the anime more than the manga. but only until L died. i didn't like Mello and Matt's development in the anime, since they were rushing by that time.

I'm going to have to agree with Fullmetal on this.

L was the best antagonist ever.

I didn't like Near too much. They did an okay job with keeping the series interesting when L died. I didn't really like how Ratio went crazy at the end in his desperate attempts to to kill everyone in the building as compensation for his plan's failure.

I liked this serie, xpecialy when L was alive :P. Only think i found out of place was the last minute character, i think its called Matt. It was introduced and killed on one episode, that really felt odd and then, the death of Mello, i was like... wtf just happened? I understood later but anyway, this was a good serie :3 I personaly liked the ending, the almighty God went crazy and desperate, that was like... lame of his part but cool for the story. XD

8.5/10

> will read manga soon enough :3

Oh, and fav part was when Light's father took Light and his "GF" to take a ride and pointed him with a gun, man, that part was dam intense, i really though he was going to kill Light XD.

ı recently watched the serie, and ı think it was awesome, really. Only the second part with Mello and Near seemed to be rushed a bit, but the first part was really good (spoiler: I thought L would be there in the whole series, I was shocked when he died) There was lots of shocking and intense moments, but none of them were like the end of episode 36 (I swore loudly when it ended right on the 40th second)

Anyway; I'm looking for something (anything; manga, movie,novel...) which gives the same feeling as death note. I mean, "the battle of intelligence" between two people. Please tell me if you know about something like that.

I found the series pretty intense and exciting, the way the producers made the animation and plannings, such as Light vs. Near, who was going to win? they both had plans, and nobody knew, some of you who read the manga may have noticed that they twisted the story a bit near the end, with resulting in Near's win and Light getting shot and also Mikami being an idiot and commiting suicide (loved that guy -sighs-) anyway, i think personal, if there was a rating, i would give Death Note a 10/10 , loved the series, loved the animation, full stop.

AMAZING ANIME!!! 9.5/10.

I was hoping L would come back but he didn't :(. that's okay because i guess it would have made the show a little silly at that point. It was a great show with the L vs. Light matchup but when Near and Mello got involved it was even better! i loved Mello's tactics and how he basically sacrificed himself in the end so that Near could catch Light. I am sad that Light died but also glad because he hurt a lot of people on his quest (his father, Misa, his sister) and showed no remorse. L got avenged by Near and Mello so ultimately everything fell into place. Great anime.

this is the worst anime ever but only because of the last episode. if they did a alternate ending i might place this anime in the ranks of the greatest anime's of all time but it will never get there because of the last episode.

I'm not quite sure about how I feel about the ending yet..

At first I hated it, seriously, both of the best people in the anime died. And that stupid Near kid won after so little time. If their side were to win at least L should have been the one to get the final victory...

But after thinking about it it wasn't that bad. I kept seeing before me the immage of Kira seeing L right before he dies. Making me think they are friends even so, and is going to the same place. And Kira didn't go to prison or anything, that deffinatly a +...

I might be kinda "cheesy" but I dunno..

I liked the series all in all : )

But L should never have died, if he were to, he should have died when Kria died. Making it a draw or something.

The first half was amazing best anime ever type of thing. When second half came around it was still great but it started to loose it high quality and became semi-high quality. The whole mello sacrifice thing with mikami going to get the real death note and then N stealing it, wasn't that great because to me it seemed out of the blue. Death Note's ending wasn't bad but could have been better.

Some things I've been pondering after watching the series...

I was recently watching the credit roll on the final episode when I noticed something that really stuck out to me. In the sequence we see Misa taking a train ride and eventually ending up at the top of a tower/industrial building of some kind looking on. I thought as to why she might do that other than for dramatic effect and pondered the idea that she might jump off having nothing left to live for.
Now I know that that's not what would happen to her in cannon because it's not what happened at the end of the manga but just bear with me.
If she did decide to commit suicide then that would mean that each time Misa accepted the 'eye-deal' she was not only halving her own life but Light's as well. The first time she did the deal she put both her life and Light's in danger by muddling in with Light's battle with L, and the second time she took the deal she was able to help Light kill L but then brought Light's killer Near and/or Mello into the picture there by inadvertenly causing his death. Also each time the eye deal was made Misa was extending (at least in the short term) her and Light's life by giving Light the upper hand against his pursuer.
This means that an additional theme, that Light's and Misa's lifespan, hearts, souls or whatever you want to call it were tied together from the very start and that they were destined to die together to the story might have been brought about in the ether.
