Blonde hair?
Power level jumps after each fight/minuite?
Don Kannoji = Mr. Satan (Hercule)?
Ichigo's friends (Earth Special Forces)?
Bleach = Dragon Ball Z :doindadom

I donīt think so..... the story is totally different and you canīt compare the characters with them of DBZ ... even if they look a like or what ever ... if you say that then the most of Anime must be a copie of something, because there are a lot of characters which have a similar look...
and:
DBZ = very looooooong fights with one person
Bleach = relative short fights with one person!!!!!
I donīt have a DBZ feeling for Bleach!

Mm .. I dun think so .
The features that u mentioned is almost in every anime there is . Blonde hair is common among anime characters , n in every show ( not only anime ) u need at least one stupid n unneccessary character like Kanonji / Satan 2 cheer things up . Besides , even the main character himself need some friends , rite ?

dude... no...
Bleach is NOT like DBz, unlesss ur 12 or all u focus on is the fight scenes and stuff. So what if theres blonde hair.. that doesnt make the anime, naruto , bleach... nothin like DBZ, sure theres fight scenes but still...*shrugs* Theres always power jumps... otherwise.. it wud get quiet boring otherwise right? Sure from a simplistic point of view.. there anime.. what more u want..^^

i dont think ANY anime is quite like dbz....its good and everything...but the fights are way to long...theres way to much talking..and the power of the people in it is just plain ridiculous....
Bleach is an All rounder in my opinion...
Ichigo has Orange hair? Anyway, The Frieza saga was horrifyingly LONG. Bleach doesnt do this :)

Well in terms of How spirtual energy is channeled during fight's, then it is somewhat like DBZ. But that's about it, the plot is completley different then DBZ.

Rite .. one thing - Do u guys think Bleach may be as long as all the DBZ sagas added up ?
Both of em originated from weekly magazines comics collumm , so there's a possibility 2 it , although I can't c how far can the story be expanded in Bleach ( Unless something else happens after saving Rukia ) .

Saiyans had to tap into their existing power too. They were all born with the ability. It took events and or proper training to achieve Super saiyan levels.

everybody must train to bring out their full potential, that happens in most fighting/action anime (eg: naruto)... the only thing bleach is similar to dbz is that spirit power thing (except bleach did it cooler where people can collapse or unable to move from too much spirit power =P) bleach fights are short (about 1 >> 3 eps each fight with one opponent?) while dbz fights are about 7+ eps with the exception of future trunks vs cyborg freiza, i think only 1 ep lol... all anime usually have a funny dude like don kanonji and mr satan... btw i wouldnt like it if bleach became 100+ eps, dont like it when anime go for that long

atleast the 5 five last episodes of Naruto have not been good (but teh 101 was probably the lowest ever). But it would be very dissapointning if Bleach should end after saving Rukia I mean it's not often you find such intresting charachters. I don't think it will cuz you still have this big hollow problem left. Like in the first episode you saw some big muthafukkas. And just because some people don't now how too use the spoil tag I think it must be some settlement against ichi and teh Hollows. His mother and that stuff is not a finished business. And why does he have this monstreous powers?? Well it is gonna take a lot of episodes to straight these things out!

Bleach is way diffirent than DBZ. Seeing them as the "same" is like: not seeing the diffirence between apples and prumes.
(how much more simple can I put that...)
Just on the single point of storyline, bleach is totally not like DBZ. Because, DBZ storyline was depressing. It's like looping the same situation/solution a million times. Bleach is diffirent. I like the many twists and ways the story takes. I really wouldn't mind if Bleach became 100+ eps.
I don't think I need to compare much more... Clearly diffirent, these animes.

iv only watched up till epsidoe 25, i cant remember which episode it was but more than half the episode explained what happend in the previous episode, it was sooooo annoying. I think bleach is far superior to naruto, the authors style is big fights augumented by lots of talking while bleach would be more like dragonball with funny adventures, not a lot of talking and fast but good fights :)
I don't think Bleach is like DBZ in the slightest. And for that I am thankful. There are certain qualities that they share, such as ... fighting? I think most anime features fighting at SOME point. XD Plus Bleach is very fast-paced whereas DBZ draggggggged .......... for aaagggggggggeeeess .........
(And the only reason Naruto has been going a bit bad recently is because they are filler episodes and do not follow the real story, as has been previosuly stated. Darn the Naruto anime staff.)

I thought Bleach reminded me of Yu Yu Hakusho...
-Going to a sprit world or whatever it was called and having to fight there / Going to Soul Society and having to fight
-Getting sprit powers out of no where
-Kuabara was able to see ghosts and so can Ichigo (and others on Bleach)
Even though I thought there were some similarities, I wouldn't compare Bleach with Yu Yu, Bleach is waaaay out of that anime's league.

Dragonball Z was awesome, I don't know what some of you people are smoking. Anyway, Bleach and DBZ are very alike in a lot of ways...but you people keep denying it just because there's such a huge hatred of DBZ in the anime community.
First off, Ichigo is a lot like Goku, because he's not that smart but what he does know is that he'll give up his life to protect those he cares about. Realizing he's the only one with the real power to do so, he sets out to train to be the best he can be so he can beat those who threaten his loved ones.
The plots, while different and twisting, are very similar as well. In DBZ, Raditz comes out of nowhere and steals someone Goku cared about very much: his son Gohan. Goku sets off to beat Raditz and kinda loses but with the help of his buddies Raditz is beaten but Goku gave up his life in order for that to happen. Goku then trains to become much stronger so that he can beat the Saiyans coming to destroy earth.
Bleach's plot is kinda similar. His family and friends are threatened and so he gives up his life, not physically but emotionally, to become stronger and protect them. After Renji and Kuchiki-taicho come out of nowhere and steal someone Ichigo cares about (Rukia) he gives up living as just a normal human in order to train and save her.
Now, as for length, you guys are right. DBZ went WAY too long. A lot could have been condensed. But still, I liked Goku and Freiza fighting for 10+ episodes. It was nice because it was a balanced fight and Akira Toriyama wanted you to know that. Bleach is just more condenced, but I personally would have loved to see some of the fights go longer. Like Ichigo vs. Renji. That fight could have been longer in my opinion. Or Kenpachi. Or Ichimaru vs. Hitsugaya. Quickly progressing through the plot is great, but sometimes I just wanna see as much action as I can handle, ya know?
Akira Toriyama was infact one of Kubo Tite's inspirations, according to the info here at BleachPortal. So doubting that there are many similarities between the two animes is just silly.
As for power and power levels, that's just self explanitory. Goku jumps in power level from Saiyan to Super Saiyan, and Ichigo jumps from Sealed to Shikai. Just like DBZ the power levels will continue to grow, because obviously as the show progresses there has to be something stronger than the main character or the plot is pointless. I mean as of right now and in the anime Ichigo could just look at hollows and they'd die. He went toe-to-toe with Kenpachi who's about the beat the snot out of TWO captains...meaning Ichigo could beat many of the captains without even breaking a sweat. So obviously there has to be something out there that's absurdly powerful and Ichigo will develop another jump in power like he's about to do now with his Bankai. It's just for progression of the plot, and DBZ was one of the first to see the need for such a thing. I mean, after Frieza was defeated, Goku was ridiculously powerful, so nothing strictly human could touch him. That's why Cell came along, made from the strongests to beat the strongests. Cell was only beaten because of a power jump (made by Gohan, not Goku) and then later on Buu was put down by some more power jumps (through fusion and the kinda silly Super Saiyan 3).
So as you can see there are many similarities between DBZ and Bleach, but for the most part I think they're good similarities and actually quite common in all action-based animes. The desire to protect, the gaining of strength...you can find these things in many different animes, including Naruto, Ruroni Kenshin, Trigun, Bleach, DBZ, Yu Yu Hakashu, and even Pokemon. It's just the way anime works.

Nicely done. You do bring up very valid points and support them well a throughly. And I for one, agree with you.
It's hard to make a lasting anime with someone who's just one level of strength. It's hard for the viewers to see the main character to develop and grow, especially in an Action anime, by being static all the time.
Different anime genres require different parts of a character to develop. In romances, development in character's fondness for each other grow from being aquaintences to becoming lovers. Animes about friendship (Fruits Basket for instance) work because the main character learns about the importance of friendship and sharing memories, thus causing the character to grow in personality and in caring.
Action Animes are no different, except instead of love, the character develops strength and power, in order to grow. It's no fun watching the same main character with the same moves fighting the same guy over again.
What I especially like about Bleach is that not only does Ichigo grow, but his growth triggers the growth in his friends. They're all connected in spiritual energy and become stronger as one unit. No doubt, we've already seen Ishida increase in strength, soon Chad and Inoue will be strong, possibly strong enough to hold their own against Captains, who knows?
The difference between Bleach and DBZ is plenty, though. Bleach's plot and storyline, for instance. It's storyline not only includes adventure, but also mystery and corruption. Whereas DBZ has a particular formula: World Crisis -> require Dragonballs -> people die -> Main character gets super buff and beats evil guy -> makes a wish to bring dead guy back alive. Repeat. Bleach doesn't follow this. It's just one storyline, there is only one beginning and one end. No Arcs, no Seasons.
Now time for me to get out of my "Serious speaking":
Bleach has a wayyyyy better character development and the Spiritual levels don't rise to disgusting proportions. So horrible, that in fact, I doubt Krillin and Goku could still be considered on the same spiritual plane anymore. But that's not to say Inoue and Ichigo ARE on the same plane. But Inoue/Chad/Ishida, they all have the ability to become stronger, to somehow gain more spiritual energy. Ichigo will still be ahead of them by a lot, but not by such a large majority that the viewers question why Ichigo still needs his buddies anymore.
What's interesting about Bleach, also is that even the "bad guys" have their own mysteries. No one really knows what anyone else is up to, where their loyalties lie.
Bleach manages to invoke an emotion that DBZ can't, just purely because of the targeted audience. DBZ is for the kids, they like to see things blow up and the main character triumphs all the time! But when Ichigo gets defeated by Byakuya. He gets defeated. He doesn't somehow gain 100 times more strength and kicks Byakuya's ass. Because, Bleach is more realistic. The bad guy will win tons of fights, which makes the struggle all the more emphasized. Chad loses to Kyouraku. Even though he completely believed and had faith that Chad would be able to keep Ichigo's promise, he still loses. Some might think, "Well, hey, that's not a very good message." But it does help in the long run. It makes the good guy triumphs THAT much more amazing, exciting that you'll be rooting for them all the way.
Also: >.> DBZ gets boring. And there are no Fox Boys/Girls in it. (That's why I liked Yu Yu Hakusho. Kurama <3 and that cute Announcer. ^_^)
I had more to say, but I forgot it all. >.> Whoops. There's my ten cents.

I think we have a winner folks. That's probably the best comment yet.
They compare Soul Society to being a Heaven for the souls, and there is a Hell for the evil souls, and then of course there is the Earth somewhere inbetween.
The only similarities I see is Hercule and Kanoji - they're both dumbasses that take the fame for saving the world, but both are required by the people of Earth, otherwise, the truth would be uncovered.

Look, I haven't watched Naruto. However, the 30 seconds of it I saw of it made me mistake it for a DB series. Bleach is nothing like DBZ. The main character is not a monkey with his tail chopped off. There are no kameamea waves (there are spells, but they are not just blasts of energy. these spells have certain functions.). Moreover, people can't fly and then have fisticuffs 50,000m in the air like they constantly did in DBZ.
No, Bleach is not like DBZ.

As stated there are a few similarities between the two series. But not as many as you might think. Hell, there is alot of similarities between me and a chimpanzee but I wouldn't call myself a monkey.
HEre are the major differences that set them apart.
DBZ has no prevailing plot line. There are a few story arcs and sagas that relate similar episodes but that's it. There is no master villain with some hidden evil scheme and plot twists. With Bleach there are and it's a continuation from episode 1 to espidoe whatever of the same plot line. If you've been following the manga, let me jsut say there are some MAJOR noteworthy plot twists coming up that I won't spoil just incase you haven't read them. Besides the 2 Don Konajami episodes, there have been only 2 fluff/filler episodes for Bleach so far. DB, DBZ, and DBGT had 100+ too many episodes.
While both have fighting, it's done differently as has been said. DBZ has people powering up with constipation (seriously all the characters look like they are trying to turn coal into a diamond with their butt cheeks they way they bend over all the time, grimace their faces and yell out when they are powering up). Bleach has people getting the crap kicked out of them before they power up.
DBZ characters, except a few, were very shallow. It worked for the series and you knew the characters, but you didn't know the characters. They were always one dimensional. And when a character change happened you had to take it in stride. The only character that had any real depth was Vegeta by going from bad to good but it was obvious enough of a change. Stuff like having 18 go from bad to good made no sense really from a character development standpoint. Ohh look, you killed my twin brother no I must marry the short, ugly, bald, and weak guy now. Yah, like that made sense. Goku had zero depth. He always fought for honor, truth, justice, family, and food. He had no edge and just always did the same thing because he "had to" do it.
The back story behind Bleach is much more interesting as it is tying two religious ideaologies and many difference philosophies into a feasible story line. DBZ is based off monkeys from space that turn their hair yellow and show spirit energy from their hands to destroy whole worlds. Bleach is about the blending of western philosophy on god, the universe and hell with eastern reincarnantion and other ideas. Both are pure fiction, but DBZ you can write off as totally unbelievable, but Bleach if you want to it could make you think. Hrmm.. maybe the guy has something here about the idea of souls being recycled and how it relates to Earth, Heaven, Hell, and Limbo. If you beleive in all the religious mumbo jumbo in the first place.
Bleach and DBZ are too fundamentally different to be called the same. We are talking about enterainment through story telling and the stories are way too dissimilar even if the main characters both are very strong, get stronger, have yellow hair, and use spirit power. Beyond that really, they aren't the same story at all.

I dont think bleach is like dbz. One reason is because dbz isen't about killing thins for theis society or anything like that. Also bleach has a little romance in it between ichigo and rukia and dbz doesn't have that. So I think belach is alot different from dbz.

EW YUCK, no! Blasphemy! Blasphemy!
Bleach > (times infinity) DBZ
DBZ is just BAD; recycled plot, no shinigami, bad animation, bad music, no strong relationships and fuzzy moments, ugly characters (save like, three) no traditional Japanese themes, waaaaay too long, I could go on and on, okay? Bottom line is Bleach is nothing like it! Ick!

Its good, but in my oppinoin Bleach is clearly the best Manga/anime i know.
Yes they do have some stuff together(heck Kubo likes/ or liked DB) But as do every anime.(mayby not much, but always something in common)
So saying Bleach is like DBZ, is like saying any anime series is like another anime serie.
Or at least we could say both series got alot of action.

First off, Ichigo is a lot like Goku, because he's not that smart but what he does know is that he'll give up his life to protect those he cares about.
Eh, I don't really agree with that. Ichigo does really stupid things sometimes but it clearly shows that he actually HAS a brain and Goku just comes off as a one-track minded idiot who only thinks about food unless it's a REALLY serious situation. Ichigo also values education, Goku does not. Ichigo is a smartass, Goku is not. Goku makes more stupid mistakes in fighting by letting his enemies go. Sure that's nice and compassionate and all but it's DUMB. Also he has no character depth at all. I'd compare Goku from Saiyuki with Goku from DBZ (they are monkeys who fight and eat a lot, plus it's the same mythology base). Comparing Ichigo to Yusuke from YYH makes a LOT more sense, in fact they are almost identical in personality except Ichigo gets good grades,he had a rougher past, and he's more mature.

This quote was originally posted by TheDoveOne:
I was getting ready for work this morning and I thought about something. Byakuya vs Renji reminds me a lot of Frieza vs. Vegeta on planet Namek in DBZ. Vegeta thought he had reached a level that he could beat Frieza but ended up dying. Frieza like Byakuya over powered Vegeta without any effort. I know Renji didn't die but his mindset is sort of like Vegeta and Ichigo would be Goku. Anyone else see the comparison?

Thanks A2k again I know bleach is not dbz but if you look at the chars. in bleach, Renji's attitude would be close to Vegeta's. And that fight with him and Byakuya made me think a little of Frieza and Vegeta going at it. Just a thought...
No problems TDO. I know why you made the thread separately, as it was a specific instance, but comparrisons between the two are pretty much all in the same boat really. =)
I happen to agree to some extent that the attitudes of some of the Bleach characters at certain points are somewhat similar to the attitudes of those in Dragon Ball. However with DBZ it's a constant attitude for the character types, where as in Bleach the characters tend to have a personality trend and vary their responses or attitude depending on the situation, but still maintain their personal character trend.

i gotta agree with NykylaiHellray, alot of animes are inspired by others but it isn't
exactly like dbz, bleach has an original charm to it.

2. I used to work a dbz website many many years ago so I had everything at my finger tips information and vid wise. But Bleach is becoming one of my fav. animes out. Escaflowne and El Hazard never had a run like this.

seriously.. DBZ == endless fighting + no character development at all?
DBZ is just.. 'i want you to become stronger then me', LONGER HAIR! and suddenly he's at a new level. characters dont have any development whatsoever, which is a misser in my eyes. the story is somewhat good, but characters are introduced, but in such a bad way..
Naruto isnt like DBZ as well, although it looks a lot more like DBZ then Bleach. ( color style, drawing style )
also the saiyan story is quite overpowered. 'get beaten, and youll become 10 times as strong as you where', thats just lame.. ( personally id get my ass kicked every time xD )

I'm not saying there alike but here is something interesting.
Ishida started off as a rival very much like piccolo was to Goku
When Ishida gets stronger than Ichigo for just a moment(takes off his glove) is similar to when Piccolo reached Super Namek and was stronger than Goku
Ichigo training for his bankai is like when goku trains in the hyperbolic time chamber and Goku once again becomes stronger than Piccolo and Ichigo is doing the same right now.

A. only one, but he takes 5 episodes doing it.
bleach is much more mature compared to DBZ. DBZ was just all fighting, bleach is more teenagerish

I agree that Bleach is better than DBZ and the story is totally different but some of the characters have a lot in common.
Also, Renji is sorta like Vegeta. (will go into detail later but if anybody else feels like posting similar go right ahead)
i dont think so the story line is completely different

10-18-2005, 12:08 PM
lol, they are nothing like one an other really, in dbz does goku get taken over by his hollow within? eh naw
renji aint like vegeta, he may seem that way, but he likes ichigo, there was just a misunderstanding at the start about rukia. though i admit there is the similarity of them both wanting to become stronger, but then that is everyone in bleach's goal atm!
Sandal Hat
10-18-2005, 12:16 PM
Renji is kinda similar to Vegeta because he in the beginning was sort of an enemy to Ichigo but then later changed sides and now fights against people who were once his friends sort like what Vegeta does. He also trains and becomes stronger and gets real cocky while fighting Byakuya at the beginning of there battle only to be beaten down to a pulp like vegeta did. Except, Renji didn't die ofcourse (but he would have without any help)

no they werent, they were misunderstood, vegeta was still kinda evil anywho, remember the majin buu saga? Not liek renji is gonna do that, more like ichigo is gonna go off at a tangent for a bit!
Vegta wasn't exactly evil, he was under babidi's control, thusly why he turned into Majin Vegeta. Though with this said, he wasn't fully under his control, as Vegeta decided he now had the power he had always wanted in order to kick Goku's ass, and he was going to take this opportunity to do so.
The difference between the characters in the two series' is that Renji has now realised that he is no match for Ichigo, Vegeta held on even after the end, determind that he would defeat Goku...eventually.
As I said somewhere else, or it might have even been in this thread; Vegeta is an out and out wimp. Anyone who's seen the Broly movie will know where I'm coming from.
I expected him to maintain that bad ass determination he has always had, but nope, he freaks out and cowers in the corner crying like a baby.
If comparing Renji to Vegeta, could you ever see Renji crying like a baby because there was someone so powerful it put the fear of GOD into him?
Well, maybe actually...but not to the extent Vegeta did in the Legendary Saiyan film.#
I still agree for the most part that there are definately similarities between the characters, and the shows...but I have to admit, Bleach is as has already been said, a more matured and sophisticated anime as opposed to a hardcore beat 'em type of anime.
The storylines in DBZ were at the best of times, weak in comparrison to the types of plot twist and scenarios we see in Bleach.

Renji would never cry!! ^_^*
(sniff..) I might but not Renji!
To be honnest I never thought of comparing DBZ and Bleach. Ok there are a very few similairities (soo spelled wrong) but not enough to really compare the two. I agree with A2k, yeah they're there but Bleach is better story-line wise.
That and I liked Trunks better anyways.

The sayains and the rest of frieza's army destroyed whole planets including families, frineds, lovers, and cute animals. I would consider that evil.
Also, I know very well how much different the story lines are, I'm not saying that they are exactly alike or there personalities are the same i'm just stating stuff they have in common, its very easy to find differences like someone said before.

tbh all animes are going to share something in common because there are so many out there these days. Your could say bleach takes after samurai jack (not an anime, but im using it to make a point) as the lead character uses a sword. Just one of those things that the authors pick up from the japanese culture that lways translates into their work

Lol Another pointless question
Dbz was always repetitive. The only things that really changed were maybe a few characters and a different look, aka Ssj levels.
In bleach, theres always new characters, new moves, new battles, new everything and it always leaves you wanting more as the episode ends. DBZ did the same but not as well as bleach.

There is no way in hell that Bleach is anything like DBZ. I used to be a huge DBZ fan and I've seen every episode of the entire Dragonball series through Dragoball GT and let me tell you Bleach is on an entirely different level than Dragonball Z. There many be similarities between the two but what anime doesn't have something in common with another anime.
To start the drawing of Bleach is way better than that of DBZ and there are no power levels in Bleach as there are in DBZ.
Second, Bleach has a WAY better storyline than DBZ and it makes since not like DBZ. I mean every episode of DBZ it's the same objective save the world and that gets kindda boring.
Third, the fighting in Bleach is all about the Zanpakutou whereas in DBZ it's all about how much ki a person has.
Fourth, the characters of Bleach are way to hardcore to be compared to the cry baby characters of DBZ.
The only thing the two shows have in common is the fact that there is fighting.
If you are to compare Bleach to another anime compare it to something much cooler than the old school DBZ. Compare it to something like Yu Yu Hakusho. Come on people Yu Yu Hakusho and Bleach have way more in common then Bleach and DBZ. And u know it, just think about it, you'll see what I'm talking about.
*scream*
That just made me so mad  , but I've calmed down.

DBZ isn't the exact same as Bleach, but it does have similarities.
to me, the biggest similarity is how, as the series progresses, the non-shinigami characters become less important and how the series quickly focuses only on the really strong characters, just as in DBZ, krillen, yancha (or however u spell) etc. become side characters as the super saiyans take over the whole series. i dont like this and i hope bleach will stop this, especially in the new saga in the manga.
also... ok... spoiler time for anime ppl. manga ppl read this.
wen the arakanu(sp?) arrive, there's a big, dumb guy who seems to have overwhelming power and does all the fighting, and a little, smart guy who doesn't do any fighting but is obviously way more powerful than the big guy. anyone besides me see this remarkably similar to napa/vegeta set up in the first saga of dbz?

Now that you mention it, it does seem like that. The small guy is obviously much stronger and enjoying the view, trying not to soil his hands as much as possible while the big, but obviously weaker guy, does the dirty job. I never thought of that until you said it yourself. :)

Of course all fighting animes have the same basic premise. Fight, get stronger, fight get stronger, but I think thats about as close as the similarities really get between DBZ and Bleach. For one the anime I would say is a lot like DBZ is Naruto becuase they both have the multiple episode fights that could have just as easily been one episode. Not to mention both series suffer from an inexorable amount of filler. Bleach has had only two true episodes of filler that I can think of (the stupid ghost show guy in the normal world), the other non-advancing eps (flashbacks) were actually relevant to storyline progress. The fights take at most two eps and the progression of the series is lightning fast in comparison. So to say Bleach is a lot like DBZ is ludicrous to me, I would say Bleach is a lot better than DBZ could ever hope to be.

I have to say that there are parts in in the SAVE RUKIA story arc that seemed rather dragonbally.
There were some fights that I found a little on the unnessarly long side.
Especially with some of the lesser generals.
Like if it was not for some other other events that are surrounding the Save Rukia story arc, I was about to give up on Bleach at about episode 34 / 35.
There are some fights where it seems that the characters just pulled a move out of their ass at the last second just so they can carry on for another episode. Eg. Ichigo Vs. Ken was just oozing DBZ.
But the again, Ken is a big boy, and I was especting this fight to be a big one.
The main thing that makes Bleach a thousand times better that DBZ is the story, and the fact that I could very much write a complete synposis on Bleach the story so far, and it would not be limited down to 12 A4 Pages (12 A4 Pages was about the size of my synposis that is the entire DB --> DBZ --> DBGT story line. scary considering that the story was over a period of over 10 years)

ARE YOU ****ING SERIOUS?!
I would seriously like to know in what aspects of the fight could possibly "ooze" as DBZ. Aside from fighting, there is nothing in comparison between Ichigo vs. Kenpachi fight and other fights in DBZ.
Also, "they" never pulled a moved out of their asses. Kenpachi always had that power, it was just merely surpressed. Ichigo borrowed powers from Zangetsu to help him take down Kenpachi, what's so ass pulling about that? Pulling something out of their asses is something that DBZ does, not Bleach. Bleach is so carefully thought out, you just can't say that Bleach characters actually do something as ludricous as busting out with a move that noone saw coming.
jonat3

I don't recall Ichigo or Kenpachi using something like "moves" in that fight. That fight was purely about who had more spiritual power. That's all.

Bleach is much different than DBZ.
It's all and well to compare characters, and events... but you must keep one thing in mind when you do that: You can compare anything with something else in one way shape or form. The possibilities are endless.
So while you might say DBZ is like Bleach because A even and character in Bleach is just like one in DBZ, I can do the same between Escaflowne and DBZ, Naruto and DBZ, or Naruto and Full Metal Alchemist, and the list goes on and on.
Similarities can be found in anything. So don't focus on them, because ultimatly it will ruin the experience.
What makes Bleach so special is the differences. And that is what should be focused on. Bleach is MUCH more mature than DBZ. Everything about Bleach reeks of maturity. The plot is in depth, and the symbolizm is rampant. Whereas DBZ..... well..... was DBZ. Ichigo's character isn't stagnant, unlike Goku. And while their are power increases the reasons behind them are starkly different. Goku's power increases because he wants to win a battle, where-as Ichigo raises his power for much nobler reasons, he wants to save Rukia, and his friends. Ichigo doesn't have this one track mind and thus Bleach becomes much more dynamic, DBZ could never reach this level of dynamics.
Every week you come to Bleach wondering what is going to happen next, what new plot twist will come about. There is so much mystery, the plot is running thick with it. In DBZ world each week you come wondering how much longer this fight will take.
It's the differences. To compare things is to take away their uniqueness, and that should never be done.

I have to add that the reason for Ichigo growing so quickly was all revealed at the end of the SS arc. Ichigo is a hybrid, so his strength growth is higher than normal.

There are some similarities, but their logic is twisted IMO. Their logic goes like this:
All of db=sucks

Since all of dbz sucks, any other series that has part of dbz must also suck. This logic is all screwed up.

Eww, don't compare DBZ to Bleach. Bleach has much more depth and character development then DBZ. And it is a lot maturer. An ordinary episode of DBZ goes like this..
Person 1: *Screams* AHHHHHH, I'm going to kill you!
Person 2: I'm not going to let you!
Person 1: Fireball!!!!
Person 2: Fireball!!!!
Nothing happens...
Person 1: POWERUP....AHHHHHH *screams and grunts*
Person 2: POWERUP....AHHHHHH *screams and grunts*
Person 1: Special attack!!!!
Person 2: I dodge it and kick you in the head!
Person1 and 2 gets into close combat and dodges each other's punches and slaps.
Person 2: ANOTHER POWERUP!!! AHHHH!!! *Veins on forehead pop*
Person 2: I will change to another form!!! *grows a tail and hair gets yellow and longer.*
Person 1: Here I come....I will charge at you....NOW.
Person 2: Energy blast
Person 1: I dodge your blasts!
*person 1 and 2 gets together and get into a messy close combat and dodging each other's moves while grunting and screaming heavily*

I don't really see how you can compare Don with Mr. Satan either.
Mr. Satan is a martial arts expert and a crappy one at it.
Don is able to see spirits, Hollows, shinigami, the works.
Don is able to concentrate his spiritual energy and shoot it as a ball.
Don can and did fight a Hollow, even stopping it from killing Ichigo when he was stuck to that fence (the episode where they met).
I think if Don wasn't such a media horny airheaded star and got some real training and some fighting experience, he could probably fight at the same level as Ishida, Chad and Inoue.
