OMG OMG OMG

How can this place be considered a Anime Thread without Full Metal Panic????

Hahaha, I love this anime, I'm not sure why but its a great blend of humour with action. It waves in and out of serious plot with seamingly "filler" episodes which don't have much plot and are generally humerous, but this is good as it gives a humour side which is what makes this anime so great. It also includes big robots, and what anime with big robots isn't cool? :P

Anyway... if you havn't seen this its highly recommended, there is also a Second Season and I've heard a Third Season is being planned, I CANT WAIT!! :D:D:D

Nup,Im looking out for the second raid as well. Full Metal comes from where? The mechs they use?

Fumoffu was funny as. Sweet sentimental-ness mixed with outrageous scenes equals a great FMP season. Sousuke is learning the ropes of being a normal teen and its just hilarious to see how he fits in.

I've already seen fmp, fumoffu, and TSR, but I've been wondering.. what's up with the very beginning of ep 1 of FMP? With the girl with pink hair being chased in Russia.

DragonBlade

Sigh, I cant remember... but I believe Its probably a Whisper that Sousuke failed to save or did save?

She doesn't seem to have any role in the story. I don't know if that scene is from the original novels, but it's not in the FMP manga.

I have a few eps left of FMP(i'm loving it), and so i'm wondering;
What do i watch first afterwards, Fumoffu or The Second Raid? I mean, wich one of the two follows the storyline after the events in FMP? I know Fumoffu is almost purely comedic, so are they even related? Furthermore, if i were to watch TSR first, would that destroy Fumoffu for me(vice versa)?

You can watch whichever one you want first. "Fumoffu" really isn't even a part of the main plot. It's more like a side-story series of just comedic occurrences with FMP characters, especially between Sousuke and Chidori.

"TSR" however is the continuation of where the first season left off. I recommend watching "Fumoffu" anyway if you like the comedic side of FMP. Otherwise, go right ahead and jump into "TSR."

Fummofu came first so watch it first just so you can go through the proper evolution of the animation. Its a great series and a nice break from the seriousness that only gets bigger in TSR (<--- Best series of 05 IMO XD).

Thanks, then i'll watch Fumoffu first. The comedy in the first season was really funny, so..

Can anyone tell me some information about this anime please.

Things like; What is the story about? is it a serious anime, or a light hearted one? etc etc

I'm thinking about starting watching it after my friend told me about it and it sounded alot like a anime i once saw but never got the name of.

basically, from what i remember of the short time i watched it for:

There were 2 teams of Mecha in a what i can only assume was a military building, one defending it from the other team that was attacking. (for some reason a red mecha stands out in my mind? might have been the main characters mecha colour or something)

While this was going on, there was a female character being escorted by a few gaurds, when she broke free (she was handcuffed) she killed / knocked them all out. and that was when the server crashed. (i was watching them streamed)

Any information would be great!

Even if its not the anime im thinking of, just your views on it would be awesome.

thanks in advance, and sorry about the vague-ness of my description.

Super funny! Its a really good series combining action, comedy, a little bit of mystery(in the mddle of season 3), and just enough romance to keep the gals interested. I really like it and am looking forward to a season 4. And just a note fumofu is season 2, not the 2nd raid

Its a good anime, season one and three are the serious ones, and season two, fumoffu is a more laid back season, but its incredibly funny, my favourite of the three seasons. but all three seasons have tons of jokes, and romance so its good for both genders, highly recommend.

The FMP series is also seemingly Cheaper than most ADV products...i picked up the Fommofu series a few months ago at Best Buy for i think 25 bucks. not bad for what i consider good quality comdey anime.

I didn't like it very much, I thought the mech fights were poorly done and I found a number of the characters dull and/or annoying...
But that's just my opinion, I'm glad you guys enjoyed it.

Its not exactly a mech action show, so its not surprising that they arnt OMG OMG WHAT A GREAT FIGHT SCENE. Its yet another show focused mainly on the characters and their relationships to each other, and maturing for that matter, especially in TSR and the later novels.

Yeah, but great action scenes would have been fun too...
Is TSR good? I've not seen it...

Actually TSR was animated by KyoAni, and it might suit your tastes better. Its a LOT more mature and serious, and there are actually a shitload of mech fights that are done really well in it. Especially with the crazy lesbian twincestual twins that pilot like crazy that they made up for the show (in the novels they are straight male twins).

So you might wanna check it out but you should probably force yourself to finish up the first season if you never did seeing as how it takes place after so you wont know whats going on as well.

But yeah id definately give it another chance even if youw ant sweet mech fights, cuz TSR has them.

lol at the kaname look alike prostitute :p

I had read the novels before the show was even planned, so it sort of bothered me that they changed stuff just to get more people to watch.

The twincestual twins were completely created to add a degree of fanservice, and it annoyed me that they went through the trouble of making that shit up just to get better ratings and sell more, when FMP already has a large enough fanbase as it is in Japan and everywhere else that has access.

And the kaname prostitute was made up too, but it was amusing as all hell so i didnt mind that one, lol.

I did watch the Full Metal Panic all the way through, so I guess I'll be able to undertand what's going on.

second season of FMP was so much better than 1st and 3rd for me. one of the best comedy shows ive seen.
3rd season, i thought, was a near-masterpiece but i hated the ending.

The 2nd Raid was definitely my favorite season imo. Although I havent finished Fumoffu yet.

Its one of my favorite anime ever, I should definitely finish Fumoffu as soon as possible. I always forget that I havent finished it.

rae, what season/episode are you on?

Kamina
08-04-2008, 06:45 PM
Im the other way around. More action/storyline for me. I like comedies too, but a nice action shounen is where its at. The occasional seinen too if it isnt too dark and boring.

Fumoffu is awesome :cm:. Especially when they become the Fumoffu soldiers. Fumo, fumo fumo fumo, fumooo, fumo fumo fumo!!!

Yeah... was definitely the best season out of the three.

The Second Raid ended badly because they cut it of, from what I heard. Apparently the novels continued, but the anime died, so they cut it off in the middle. Apparently there was more kidnapping and confessions after they returned from Hong Kong.

Anyway, one of my fav shows. :cm:

I so forget what the story was in the first season. I should probably rewatch it sometime if I have the spare time. I rate this anime really high, its definitely essential anime imo. I see no reason why you wont like it.

i LOVED the episode where sousuke coaches the school's rugby team. i lol'd a lot.

@manji - ive only really liked 3 shonens that ive seen. 2 of them were sports shows, too, so i probably liked them cuz im a huge sports fan. so that makes 1 non sports shonen i liked, and that's tengen toppa. =/

I wouldn't really classify FMP as shonen. It's a little more complex than that, at least when it comes to political intrigue and personal relations. Shonens typically dumb themselves down, like Bleach/Naruto. There's usually a singular cause that's being chased repeatedly, from saving the world to saving your best friend.

FMP has a lot more in it (not that it's elaborated on that much in the series...) than that. First, Mithril/Sousuke don't focus on saving a particular person or group. They instead focus on upholding international laws and keeping things peaceful even when it comes to direct violence (take that episode where Sousuke had to get a nuclear warhead from Gauron).

And there's no "everyone survives, I will protect you!" stuff, which IMO is the defining point of shonen.

Your MAL seems to notate otherwise, unless you dont consider 8 and 9 to be a good rating. But I guess we just watch anime for slightly different reasons, I watch it to chill out, relax, and watch something that is sort of brainless. the occasional thinker here and there, but I usualy reserve that type of thing for movies.

I dont think FMP is a shounen. Its one of those unclassified ones I think. Its more shounen based than seinen, but I wouldnt call it either one. and yes, it doesnt have the shounen ideals that definitely get tiresome after a while.

M_A
08-04-2008, 08:54 PM
i never said FMP is a shonen. i was just responding to maji's statement that he likes shonens. FMP is definetly seinen.

@manji - yeah, 8 and 9 are good, but like i said, ive only given like 3 shonens a score of 9 or 10.

Kamina

This show is seinen? I tend not to think so, its more for a teenager demographic imo. Its more seinen than Bleach, but less seinen than, um, well any seinen actually. Some places even classify it as shounen, but thats definitely not true.

M_A
08-05-2008, 03:06 AM
well, first season is like half shonen, half seinen, 2nd season doesnt count cuz its a completely different thing, and last season is like completely seinen imo. so overall, its seinen for me.

Neko Rae

I've finished it all now. I liked the first season best. fumoffu was kind of funny. TSR had some good episodes but some of them were boring. and I'm mad at Chidori for not telling Sousuke that she loves him

Just finished FMP TSR few days ago. Not bad, but first season was better, though the last ep in TSR was really great imo. Fumoffu is a class for itself xD, first ep, second part - ftw; plus the art field trip episode.

Will there be a 3rd season, if anyone knows?
