Laptops are expensive enough, but Alienware is rediculously overpriced, either build your own, or shop around, some good sites to check are
www.pricewatch.com
www.newegg.com

Check those out and do laptop configurators or something Im sure you will get better and you'll see a huge price difference I bet ^_^

Yeah, making a laptop is about the worst idea ever.

Laptop-wise Alienware probably isn't the way to go. Alienware is especially not the way to go PC wise when obviously you can build one that is just as fast for like 1k.

Honestly, I HATE windows laptops... The Mac Powerbooks, while expensive, are hella awesome. If you MUST have a Windows laptop, Alienware's are solid choices, although a tad expensive. Another place to look would be Ibuypower (www.ibuypower.com). Haven't checked on their laptop prices in a while, but their desktops are fast AND cheap.

On top of that, they look awesome (although usually not as good as Alienware).

give me 3 good reasons WHY making a laptop is the worst idea?

I believe alienware's laptop support switching video cards which is a big plus if you are planning to upgrade later

Alienware are nice and very good for gaming but I HAVE to say they are overpriced for what is in them. Yes just cause its a lap top and everything is compact with one of the best lap top video cards with a buff hard drive 1 gig at least of memory doesn't mean that you can over price every single part of it. Alienware laptops are VERY good except for the price. The only thing I have to complain about Sony lap tops are that if you use computers and notebooks as much as me (they're on more than they are off) they will generate a lot of heats as do all note books but thats not the problem. The problem is that some Sony's are known to have hard drive problems are a prolonged use of them (not saying leaving it on for a week or two cause thats not very much time but like a year or a little more than a year, its not like you'll want to get a new lap top every year...well you would want to just not on the budget)... I have a Dell myself I don't really have a lot of complaints except that it burns my legs after I put it on my lap for a long time....it heats up pretty fast but the Pentium 4 M's are very temperature tolerant and based on P4's they just slow down as the temperature heats up so the CPU damage would be very hard to obtain...Dells are pretty good just that their customer service is CRAP =)

alienware is good, but you can find better deals for your money. on top of that, i haven't heard good things about their customer service / support. a friend of mine dropped $6k on his alienware.... they gave him the run around for over a month before they actually started assembling his computer. he essentially had to yell at a manager about why the hell his $6k he paid for a computer wasn't motivation enough to get their asses moving and build it. they just said, "oh, oh we're so sorry." and it shipped in like... 2 days after that. sheesh. me + alienware = never.

I have dell and their customer service uber crap. At least they provide recent drivers upgrades at least :). I have a prescott Intel which burns madly. I have a extra fan cooling under it and it helps. The most important advice I would recommend for a laptop user is to use Dust off to get rid of those pesky dust that would clog your fan up
