All of these pictures are very good, it's making deciding who I should vote for very hard...

But I have finally come to a decision, wasn't easy though :)

The choice for me was between 2, 4 (or 6), and 5. I ultimately went with 5.

1 - This was a nice black and white photograph. But a couple of things kept me away from voting for it. First of all, and least importantly, there were some contrast and brightness problems with certain areas that I believe didn't bring the best quality the photograph could have had. Second of all, it is just a picture of a clock against a linen or shirt or something. Anyone can do a picture of a clock when the subject is time, but what I was really looking for was uniqueness in focal point or pose and the meaning behind the photograph in relation to time or juxtaposition of temporal elements (life/death, pleasure/pain, etc.).

2 - This was a very well-done photograph. In fact, out of all of the photographs it probably had the most emotional underpinning. It was probably second-place in my book. The photograph itself was pretty damn good with not many complaints and the position of the various elements was also very nice, as was the angle of the shot. The best part about the photograph was its lack of a clock in any sense, but rather relying on paper media of various sorrowful/death-related events in history and then combining that with part of the Revelation to John in the foreground. That evoked a further sense of tragedy and of apocalyptic design. The photograph could also be interpreted by the juxtaposition of past v. present and of holiness/life v. death. Also it could be seen as a sign of foreboding. A very, very good shot and I was conflicted about not voting for it. The reason I probably did not vote for it was because it wasn't very subtle in its message and because it featured straight-up shots of death and tragedy which tend to turn me off from it. I am not a fan of pictures of imminent death or immolation, so that combined with a slight lack of subtlety (which wasn't blatant, but just enough) made it 2nd place in my book.

3 - This wasn't even in my finalist category. It features friends playing basketball on a sunny day somewhere. Now it does indeed feature time, people having a good time during their youth, and it might win a school contest. However, I am a very serious individual who looks for meaning, juxtaposition, and art within photographs. This photo had little to none of those things in my opinion. Also, the photograph didn't come out too well either with parts of it blurred (hopefully not on purpose) and out of focus.

4 - This was a nice, captured shot of a watch or something falling into water which was captured in the midst of the water spraying out. It is quite a nice shot and photographically it is near perfect with great contrast, colors, and pose. One thing disappoints however. The watch is not shown facing the viewer (we only see very little of the front of it, distorted). I know it must have been a difficult shot, but actually capturing the front of the watch, discernible albeit warped, would have made this photo a lot better. This was a finalist, bit I did not choose it because it lacks true meaning or juxtaposition. While it is a beautiful and artsy shot (the whole water stopping in midair with a watch), it lacks some of those qualities.

5 - My choice for winner. Now don't get me wrong, this picture is not perfect. Some photographic improvements could have been used to increase the picture's quality, but it is still a winner in my book. When I think of time as a subject, I think immediately of life and death and what better way to capture that sentiment than to capture both juxtaposed (whether that was the purpose or not does not matter at this point). The picture is black and white and quite melancholic, although not quite as melancholic and evoking as I would have wanted. The gravestones stand silent under the shade of small tree, undoubtedly thriving off of the remains of the dead. This image captures time as it should be...time is not a clock, time is life and death and all in between and maybe even beyond both. It is also very simple and captures a lot of meaning with very little directions as what to look for or to see. While it is not perfect in any way, it is the clear winner of the group of photographs I have seen. Congrats!!!

6 - This photograph is actually quite nice. First and foremost it combines vibrant color with stoic black and white to bring attention to the clock in the arms of stone cherubim. The focus seems a little off in some areas, but other than that the photograph is pretty impressive. The only thing that really kept me off from this photograph was the clock theme (which is find if used with juxtaposition of whatnot). I can't really say much about the photograph's meaning, but the angels holding time in a melancholic setting is well done, but if only there was little more. The angels holding time gave it extra points as it evoked a sense of life and death. Now that I think about it, this photo is probably in my top three, probably bumping out 4 or so. Good job.

Everything I said is based on my own personal whims and aesthetic experience. I mean no offense if I have caused anybody and thank all of the members for putting forward good photographs. :)

Looks like Scorch has to raise his standards.

Or possibly just possibly bother to do better.

Either way, I'll come up with something better later. :)

EDIT:

And... uh.... Yuko... It seriously does say you voted for Pic #1.

I don't think you can delete a poll vote . . . we'll just have to take it into consideration when doing the final tally . . .

I also don't think you not being able to see the names is a premium thing b/c I have premium and I can see the names . . . but then again I didn't vote ^_^
