O.O...
/me is shocked
And to think I wrote the poem at 1 am because Scorch was bugging me on IRC about it. I never thought I'd win. Thanks to those that voted for me ^.^

/me is guessing that, like most contests on CB, this one came down to a popularity contest.
So yeah, don't count me in for any more contests, because I'm PRETTY SURE that the outcome will generally be the same.
Also, congratulations to the winners.
^ Maybe, but their poems were pretty good too.

/me thinks Jaran is just acting like a sore loser if he won't participate in another one just because he thinks it was all popularity
I'll tell you now, if it had been popularity, I would not have voted for JenJen first. Seriously, I don't even KNOW JenJen. I just loved the poem.
So :P for thinking it was all on popularity!!

I may be a sore loser, but you can't blame me for thinking these things.
Also, YOUR vote may not have been biased, but can you speak for everyone else's votes? I didn't say it WAS a popularity contest. However, I wasn't satisfied with ANY of the comments or critiques. Plus, don't you think that it was just reshuffling of the first vote? I mean, it's almost like everyone who voted just took the first vote and rearranged the places, then made up some bullcrap reasons for why they voted.
In addition, I did congratulate them, so I'm not entirely a poor sport.

I can not speak for everyone else... And I didn't say that I was. I do understand that you are concerned that it could be a popularity contest, but the way you presented it, and saying that you were not going to participate in any future contests was just plain mean. It was an almost childish act (no, I'm not calling you childish or a child, but the act came across that way).
As for similar votes from people... that could be just as much from popularity as from a consistency in writing style. Just like finding a poet you like more than others and liking almost every poem they write, it is similar here.
Additionally, if we are going to hold a contest were the reasons for each vote are necessary and must not seem like "bullcrap" then we'd have to find the best poets with the best opinions and hold a contest where only they vote. Anytime you hold a contest that is public, people who really don't know what they are talking about are going to vote.
And honestly, I think the three people who DID vote could take this a bit personally. There were only three voters, a mistake that is not our fault. So for you to say that you felt it might be popularity when three people voted is a lot different than if there were 10 or 15 votes.
So really, how can you be upset that three people on the forum voted this way... blame other people for being lazy bastards... not us for taking the time to vote. Besides, it's not like you voted at all... >.>
Shouldn't it be noted that the three people that did vote were all poets themselves? I was one of them, and I didnt really give a comment or critique but I chose the poems which I felt suited the theme.

I didn't vote in the interest of impartiality.
People who are involved in the contest shouldn't be allowed to vote anywho... I mean, I can't say that everyone who voted was biased, and I definitely didn't mean it as an insult to anyone. However, when I read through the three votes that were made, and they all basically say the same thing, but shuffled, it tends to raise a question within me.
I know most people don't take these contests seriously, but me saying that I'm not going to participate in them shouldn't have elicited a negative personal comment against me. After all, I didn't single out anyone. If anyone has been wronged here, it's me.

I guess what upsets me most is that you are a good poet, and because of this, we're losing your participation in the poetry contests.
I think this is a stupid reason to not participate anymore.
And while you say you didn't single anyone out, when three people voted, it definitely felt that way.
As for participants not voting, that worries me in this forum. All three votes were from participants. If we hadn't voted, no one else would have.
Additionally, I, too, take this contest seriously, and I put a lot of thought into my votes, I just didn't have the energy to type up a long explanation as to why I chose each one.

um. just a question, looking at the voting thread. how did the numbers add up to a tie?
I'm unsure of that myself. Tbh, the poetry section has little activity compared to the old days but what Toasty said rings true, people wouldn't have voted otherwise :/

I sent a PM to Beecrest asking about the scores. Nomadic Dragon was talking to me at the time and wanted me to, the points didn't add up.
I'll make a note in the third contest thread when I start it up.
We'll hear more from Bee then.
