Fatal Frame Series for the XBOX... Crazy Scary. The only way to kill Ghosts in the game is by taking a close up picture of them with a magic camera... What? Trust me... Taking close up pics of crazy ghosts is pretty freaky.

Eternal Darkness for the GameCube... The most MindF*ck game you will ever play. Definitely breaks down the fourth wall and makes the gamer feel that he/she is actually in the game... Awesome.

Silent Hill Series... Part 1 is crazy... walking around in a pitch black school with a flashlight while ghost babies laugh in the background... Wow...

And saying Resident Evil 4 isn't a good game is blasphemy... The Videogame Gods will strike down upon thee.

fatal frame 2 = scariest game I've ever played. I pretty much jumped out of my seat every 15 minutes. :<


RE4 is a great game, just not a single scary moment. but then again, I don't find any of the other resident evils scary either.

Fatal Frame is pretty scary, especially Crimson Butterfly, but overall, hands-down on Silent Hell games 1 and 3, and Resident Evil 1 GC Remake. Some disturbing images, monsters and shock horror moments in those games will keep your nigthmares occupied. o.o

Silent Hill 2 is the most brilliant horror game I've ever played.

I really liked Call of Cuthlhu as well.

There are plenty of horror games.

But the best are ones that are more on the survival side of things.

Games like F.E.A.R, and Resident Evil 4 are more action games, with some horror elements.

EDIT: Eternal Darkness is insanely cool as well.

Thief 3: Deadly Shadows has a really freaky level. The Shalebridge Cradle. A building that was once a lunatic asylum then an orphanage - which then burnt down. You have to explore it to get information on some "Old Hag".

They didn't focus on disturbing images or whatever whilst making this level..but more on the atmosphere. I was playing it alone in the dark with the volume all the way up..and i was seriously freaked out :P

RE4 has really nice graphics, but never really scary for me.

I've been playing RE since I was like 14 and it never came close to scaring me except for one moment. I was playing around 12am with the lights off and had decent volume on. My mum sneaked in without me noticing and I was expecting Nemesis to come out, and a cutscene played in the meanwhile so I looked back to get my drink.

I saw my mum standing over my back, I went like "Ahh zombie!" in my mind.

SH2 is the best IMO :)

Siren is uber scary in that you can tell where zombies are with your telepathy. Using it is like tuning in to a old TV channel, and you see what they see, and one time I was using it, and I saw (through the zombies eyes) myself getting closer @.@

Scared the shit outta meh.

Seriously, pick up a copy of an old Silent Hill game, Silent Hill 2 is about as scary as you can get in a game without constant screamers.

I haven't even seen a scarier game really. Unless it was another Silent Hill.

- FEAR - not scary at all to me
- Doom 3 - fun, but not scary, though it does pressure you when situations get awry
- Resident Evil 4 - one of the best games ever made, but not really scary, though it is EPIC and you should play it because it is EPIC, so extremely EPIC

There's a part where you're going through some vents and she comes flying towards you and some steam comes out of a pipe and she disappears, I remember sitting in my chair for ages, nearly had a heart attack.

It isn't a really scary game, but there are some moments when Alma jumps out at you and it can be pretty terrifying.

The last level of Extraction Point though, man that was scary.

Lawl. Also any of the resident evils are good. Even the Dead Aim ones. I think it was RE:DA2 when you're on the Cruise Liner, that is pretty scary, as the only thing lighting your view is a measly flash light and oohhh the whole atmosphere. It's in the First person perspective (I think that's what its claaed:p) format

FEAR isn't really a scary game it just had scary moments. I played it more for its awesome action and decent enemy AI.

Truly scary games are games that can get your heart beating in fear without anything actually happening on screen... Fatal Frame 2 is one game that can really scare you shitless... I can't play the damn game by myself. The only time I do is in the middle of the day.

There is another game(The Name escapes me right now) its like Resident Evil 4's "camera over the shoulder view" and you are part of a team exploring this abandoned tanker ship in the middle of the ocean during a cyclone. Then your team starts getting taken out one by one by monsters... Its scary as hell but I can't remember its damn name. Can anyone help me out?
