Who would win if they had to fight?

I would say Neji.... Shuno's bugs are powerfull xD... but he is long range fighter while Neji is close range, if Neji come close to Shino he is finished... and I dont think that Shino is capable to make a distance with Neji...

I believe Neji would take this. While Shino's bug are versatile and there are many ways to use them , both offensively and defensively Neji and his arsenal of Byakugan Jutsu's would be too much.
Imagine this:
Shino's bugs charge at Neji. Neji uses his Byakugan Technique , the one in which he spins and hits everything , the one that has been called ''perfect defence'' ( Sorry , i cant remember the exact name. ). Bugs get squashed. Then Neji charges and easily finishes of Shino in simple Taijutsu.

I have to agree with both people here. Neiji takes this.
Though Shino is extremely smart and capable, and actually vastly underrated, he is outmatched here.
Neiji has speed, his defence move that 'Ulqiora' mentioned, and the byakugan, not as easy as some would think, but Neiji has got this.

i voted neji .. but i dont think his kaiten would be as useful as ppl think. shinos bugs do eat chakra... but neji is so precise with his jyuuken and byakugan that he could pick the bugs apart
i would say neji because clearly he is stronger and smarter than shino :p

Neji would win, his Byakugan is flawless.

Neji would win, his Byakugan is flawless.
I wouldn't go to the extent of saying that his Byakugan is flawless but I do think he has this fight in the bag. He is the only character to advance to a Jounin during the time skip.
Neji takes this one for sure. Bugs are useless against someone who can actually see them coming and take them apart. Plus Neji is one of the most powerful jounins to come from this new generation.

but if shino can get bugs on neji's blind spot, and drain all of neji's energy then shino would win
i would say neji because clearly he is stronger and smarter than shino :p
I wouldn't say he's smarter then Shino...
And about the blind spot thing, I was thinking about that too because his bugs can come from everywhere and if they get past then Neji is introuble.

If one bug manages to get on Neji, Kaiten would spin it off of him. Likewise, if Neji managed to pierce the real Shino (he'll be using bug bunshin often) then Shino's chakra, the only thing that gives him control over the bugs, is gone. Once he loses chakra, the bugs will should leave his body to find a new host. That's how I see it happening.
Or...
Shino uses his bugs to defend his tenketsu by covering his iniards with well...bugs. I dunno, just trying to make it seem less one-sided. I think Shino is smarter than Neji, but just outmatched in a straight up brawl.

It would be next to impossible to get a bug on Neji without him knowing it. The bugs crawl for the most part, which is a part of his vision. Secondly, Neji's blind spot is fairly small, and each time he moves, the blind spot moves with him... the bugs can't move fast enough to keep up. Finally, I doubt Shino knows about Neji's blind spot.
Considering Neji is a jounin, it would likely take a jounin or higher to beat him, not counting special cases like Sasuke and Naruto.
Oh I was talking about in regular Naruto, we really haven't seen any of Shino's new ability's yet so yeah...

The case is more or less the same when they are both genin. Neji is the strongest genin outside of Naruto, Sasuke, Gaara, and possibly Lee. Bug bunshins will more than likely not work against Byakugan anyways..

Oh I was talking about in regular Naruto, we really haven't seen any of Shino's new ability's yet so yeah...
Neji was praised as the most talented and blessed Byakugan-User even in regular Naruto. It was believed , that he was the strongest Gennin in Maito's Team. ( Lee said himself that Neji surpassed him). Infact before some certain powerups ( Naruto+Jiraiya training , Sasuke+Kakashi training ) he was the strongest out of all the wanna-be Chuunins. Only Gaara could put up a good fight against him , and in the end i could see Neji losing.( Shuukaku's Interferance , or just Gaara's Powerful Sand Techniques)
Shino was ...well.. a weird one. Certaintly he is a strong adversary. Both intelligent and with versatile techniques. He was one of the Rookie-Nine (Konoha's only nine Gennin that made it to the Chuunin Exams.) , and a strong one out of them. But despite all this , his bug skills can be countered by Neji's Byakugan-Jutsu.
I cant really see Shino winning no matter how much we drag it , or how lucky he is. . .

didn't temari and shik make it to jounin aswell?
Temari, Kankuro and Neji are the only Jounins out of the original Genin from the Naruto series. Shikimaru is still Chunin.

Shikamaru is the exam proctor for the chuunin exams.
I think Neji can take out shino... Byakugan plus 64 plam gives neji the edge over shino and his bugs. SO it will be a win for him but don't think it'll be easy though.

I would have to go with Shino. Neji's byakugan is mad strong but Shinos bugs could easily get into his blind spot. I mean Orochimaru's henchman managed to get that saliva spear thing in his blind spot. Shino is the most unknown power in the show so it could go either way, but im betting on Shino.

Keep in mind that, that spider freak was a good analyst. That aside, Neji was only a genin back then but he STILL managed to win. Assuming that Shino figures out Neji's blindspot and directs his bugs to move towards him in that direction, don't you think that Neji would be able to figure it out? I mean, bugs aren't exactly the quietest creatures when moving.
On the other hand, Neji's hakke blocks chakra pathways, that doesn't really matter to someone who doesn't use any of his chakra and feeds it to his bugs. So Neji's ace in the hole, is in fact very flawed against someone like Shino.
That being said, while stopping the chakra flow is not something that would work against Shino, Neji still has the upper hand by damaging his opponent internally given that the chakra circulatory system is closely packed with a person's organs, in this case Shino's.

Yes but you have to take into consideration that Shino is one of the least known characters in the show. I have only seen him fight once. So his abilities are unknown. And he could have something that none of us have ever thought of.

Well, we haven't really seen much of Neji's post time-skip skills either. Fact remains however, that he was the only one to advance to a rank higher than the rest. Based on what we've seen as well, it is safe to assume that Neji's superior to Shino. What their skills matured into after the time skip is disregarded at the moment.
Shikaku
05-08-2008, 03:11 AM
But even before the time skip we didnt see any of his skills. He was in one battle. And if Naruto could beat Neji, Shino could. Shino is a mysterious character. You never know what he can do.
Naruto only won because of the Kyubi its not a fair fight.
Jasper
05-08-2008, 10:12 AM
Indeed.
Naruto's kyuubi favours him over most characters in a fight. Technically speaking, Neji dominated his match with Naruto, and had it not been for Kyuubi's chakra flowing in his body, Naruto would've lost the match.
Aside from that, Shino wouldn't have won against Naruto either. Chances of that are nil. No matter how mysterious one's tactics are, once they are overwhelmed with a surge of unmeasurable power (i.e. the Kyuubi), he/she is done for.

Shino would win since his chakra isnt easily disabled :)
Shikaku
05-08-2008, 04:17 PM
Technically speaking Neji still beat the Kyuubi. Naruto got lucky with that underground hit.
not luck he planned it!
Plus shino's bugs feed on chakra, neji's a natural counter to that since he can supress his chakra totally and still fight. Shino's a natural counter to Neji's abilities cause he can use his bugs to feed on the incoming chakra that would damage his internal organs cause they live inside his body. So this fight isn't as easy as i first though on second look

The ranks of the genin after the time skip should reflect their strength, excluding Naruto and Sasuke. After all, that's why they have those ranks.
I'd be willing to bet Neji would beat Shino. Neji's spinning technique seems impossible to get through without somehow restricting his movement or blasting him, which I don't know if Shino can do. Even if Neji can't do chakra damage, his style still lets him do organ damage, which would still disable Shino.
Shikaku
05-08-2008, 10:28 PM
Although Shino could use his bugs to eat Neji's chakra before it reached the organs.
Jay3205
05-09-2008, 02:58 PM
Exactly how would the bugs get past Neji's spinning technique? Bug clones aren't going to fake out the byakugan, and the 360* view prevents any sort of bug sneak attack.
Shikaku
05-09-2008, 04:37 PM
Neji's blind spot is how they would get past. and he would eventually run out of chakra.
Yeah but Neji after the time skip can supress his chakra entirely!! Think about it when he was in the water prison he stopped and supressed his chakra entirely!! And he still had the Byakugan activated. While in that form Shino's bugs are useless since they need chakra to feed. So when they can't feed on his Chakra it becomes a taijutsu match and we all know who'd win that?
Shikaku
05-09-2008, 09:14 PM
Really! Sorry i dont know anything about after the time skip.
Jay3205
05-10-2008, 02:30 AM
Neji's blindspot is extremely difficult to locate, and it moves around with Neji's head movement. The only real way to figure it out would be to gradually test him, using pin-point attacks that move fast enough that they can pass from outside Neji's vision all the way to Neji while constantly remaining in his blind spot... which is unlikely considering Neji can see over a kilometer post time skip. Even then, the rotation of Neji's spinning technique eliminates that possibility as well, unless Shino has binding techniques.

05-10-2008, 07:57 AM
His spinning technique? Are you talking about his rotation or his eight trigrams?

Yes, his only spinning technique is eight trigrams heavenly spin. It should be obvious what I meant, considering he has only 1 technique that involves spinning...
Shikaku
05-14-2008, 03:06 PM
his bugs could easily get past that
Jay3205
05-14-2008, 05:53 PM
How would bugs get past a spinning wall of chakra, when hundreds of kunai bounce off of it like they're hitting a metal plate. Here's why Neji would win...
1) Neji is a jounin. Shino is a chuunin. Neither of them are main characters. If Shino had jounin level fighting ability... he would be a jounin.
2) Neji has kaiten, which deflects kunai. A bug has far less piercing power than a kunai, and Shino has no way to stop Neji's rotation.
3) Shino has no real range attacks. Shino has no fast techniques either. This means that as long Neji moves at all, Shino will never be able to locate his blind spot.
4) Neji has byakugan, eliminating any hope of a bug sneak attack/bug clone actually working.
5) Neji has eight trigrams empty palm, allowing him to attack from a range.
6) Neji's soft fist style would disable Shino in less than 5 hits, provided Neji actually tried to kill him. It's possible he could end it in 1 hit.
7) Shino hasn't shown any taijutsu or genjutsu capable of rivaling Neji (or weighted Lee, who Neji has beaten every time).
8) Neji can emit chakra from all his pores, meaning he can expel the bugs that do manage to get on him.
Shikaku
05-14-2008, 09:14 PM
Nejis jutsu takes alot of chakra and Shino has no need for chakra and his bugs would eat the chakra that Neji uses to deflect them. Shino could use his bugs to block his organ's so that would have no effect. Shino feeds his chakra to his bugs so Neji's ace in the hole is useless.
Jay3205
05-15-2008, 12:49 AM
Neji's jutsu may take a lot of chakra, but he doesn't need to use it constantly. He only needs to use it to clear out the nearby bugs, then make his way over to Shino. Although, he would never even need to resort to kaiten, seeing as he'd never get surrounded by bugs. Please don't use this "the bugs would break through and surround him" argument again, since I've already shown it wouldn't work.
Secondly, Shino's bugs can't eat chakra that is actively attacking them. It's common sense... eating requires time. It's like trying to eat a bullet as somebody shoots you with it; it's just not possible. What you're talking about is straight up chakra absorbtion, which Shino's bugs don't do.
Finally, a few bugs won't stop Neji from destroying organs. For that to happen, it would mean less than a 1 inch thick wall of bugs is so strong that it can stop a full force punch from a human... which is pretty outrageous considering a normal 2-year old could break through a 1-inch wall of bugs. Also, Neji's strikes as a genin are strong enough to break through a tree, which should be a far cry from his jounin power. Meanwhile, Shino has shown nothing besides "trick the opponents with bugs", which won't work on someone with 360 degree x-ray vision.
If Shino can't counter all of the things I listed in my last post, then he loses. Don't try to divert the subject. Everybody else on the thread said Neji would win.

1:Rank means nothing. If you are on a mission at the time of the exams you cant take them and increase in rank.
2:The bugs would bounce off but then they would go right back.
3:We do not know his capabilities. He was only in one battle.
4:Yes but Shino is on a team with a byakugan user he would know to stay far away.
5:That is true but he would have to get to him first.
6:Again he has only been in one battle we cant say that he doesnt know anything.
7:The bugs would just come back after that.
8:Shino would keep him busy with his bugs constantly attacking so he doesnt have to make bug clones.

6:Again he has only been in one battle we cant say that he doesnt know anything.
7:The bugs would just come back after that.
8:Shino would keep him busy with his bugs constantly attacking so he doesnt have to make bug clones.1)Rank does mean something, seeing as everyone has missions. It's also made evident that once the tests come around, they are given the option to take it. You can't say Shino had no time for exams, since that's pure speculation with NO evidence to back it up.
2) Bugs would bounce away quite far considering their size. Once Neji stops kaiten, he has an area a couple meters wide where there will be no bugs, which is more than enough room to jump over to Shino...assuming kaiten doesn't flat out kill the bugs, which is very likely considering it takes a minimal amount of force to kill a normal size bug. However, he wouldn't need to resort to this, seeing as he wouldn't get surrounded, which you just happen to conveniently forget.
3) We DO know his abilities, since he has been in a fight. Based off what he has done, Shino can't win. We also know his rank, which for every character in Naruto, has been a decent indicator of their battle strength, Naruto and Gaara being the exception. At the very least, no chuunin has been shown beating a jounin, without special provisions (i.e. possessed by a demon, curse seal, etc). Otherwise, we could argue that Konohamaru could beat Gaara since "we don't know his ablity".
4) Neji can see fine details nearly a kilometer away, through any object. If Neji can't see Shino, then there's no way Shino would be able to see Neji, hence he wouldn't be able to attack him.
5) Why would getting to him be a problem? It's never been a problem for anyone to close in on anybody else in a fight.
6) We don't know Konohamaru's ability either. I suppose we can't assume that Kakashi would beat him either.
7) Neji can jump dozens of meters, like every other ninja. He can easily jump over the bugs, step on the bugs, or use empty palm to attack shino from a distance. You're making it seem like it's impossible to get around the bugs... like they form an infinite barrier, and the bugs somehow actually can hurt Neji while instantly draining his chakra. In reality, Neji could just let the bugs drain his chakra while he just walks up to Shino and pwns him in 2 hits.
8) Neji could jump over the bugs and pwn Shino in 2 hits. The bugs aren't that fast, as shown in Shino's fights. Seeing as Neji can control his chakra pores, he can expel the bugs at any time.
To sum up, we DO know what Shino is capable of, or at least know his fighting style and techniques. We also know that he's a chuunin. That pretty much rules out the "we don't have any idea of what he could do, so nothing neji does will work" argument. We also know 360* vision prevents Neji from being surrounded, so stop trying to argue as if Neji starts off surrounded and must resort to kaiten. Finally, the bugs move extremely slow and aren't invincible, so don't argue as though the bugs will instantly reach Neji the moment he stops moving.

I dont think the bugs would be 'swat away' per say. I think they're literally get killed against Kaiten, since the speed of rotating chakra can be compared to someone swatting a fly with a flyswatter.
Neji also broke out of a jutsu created by an Akatsuki, who has the highest amount of chakra in the group(and possibly the naruto verse, excluding naruto), and his Jyuken can probably kill a large sum of bugs(since he showed us he could kill multiple spiders with one hit against Kidomaru).
Also, Neji isn't slow, getting to Shino shouldn't be a problem, since Gaara's brother didn't have trouble doing it.
