Ok, well, there is only one RPG that I have played for 360 and that is Oblivion. It was fun and all, but IMO I didn't really like the whole story. No real interaction and it was more or less just running around killing crap for me. So here is my question.

What are your favorite/most promising looking RPGS for the 360 and/or PS3?

(Please make sure you mark each section seperatly *360: Oblivion*)

Also whether or not you would truly recommend them, as I am looking for a good 360 RPG.

the game that really impressed me at the moment is mass effect.
check it out.

it looks good enough to be a film while all of that video is ingame and seems to have a great score and story.
plus even though it's an Rpg the combat is entirely real time and like a tactical shooter e.g GRAW.
aside from that i have never been dissapointed by bioware who for me are the best western RPG developers.

You should consider Blue Dragon.

It was created by the original Final Fantasy creator. While i've not got a 360 yet (costs too much for the little games out I want, or games coming out I want) it's definitely high on my list of games for the 360. The game comes on three DVD's and Sakaguchi (the FF creator) fanboys were buyng a 360 just to play this game and gaming sites have given it mid to high ratings. Famitsu in Japan have rated it 37 out of 40. The game is so popular a DS version is being done and they turned it into an anime and manga.

With the exception of the Final Fantasy 13 games, I don't know of any decent PS3 RPG's.

Eternal Sonata for the 360 is a great, artistic game with good music. it's what i am currently playing. it has a unique battle system and a decent story. imo, its better than blue dragon.

my favorite rpg for the 360 is still Oblivion, i got 130 hours in that game.

Oblivion for PS3 and 360.

Blue Dragon, I played the demo and I found it imo, crappy. I played it for an hour, but didn't like it.

Eternal Sonata, I will download in the week as it looks promising, but I'd wish it wasn't cell shaded.

As for PS3, not many out that I know of.

Eternal Sonata. One of my all time favorite JRPGS. Art Style = orgasm

Blue Dragon is OKAY, it didn't really grab me.

Nothin' out for the PS3 except Enchanted Arms. I really liked it on the 360, can't really say for the PS3.

Then there's Two Worlds and whatnot. Two Worlds I found actually really compelling.

There's Folklore for the PS3, it really isn't an RPG, but I really enjoyed it.

Depends what you like. Mostly the XBOX never was big for RPG's at all, including the 360, though they do have 1 or 2 decent exclusive ones, usually the only notable ones are on the PC, and look better/play better, or the PS3 as well. Lost Odyssey is for 360 exclusive, I think, then there is white knight story for PS3, FF13(all 3 of them), and a few other ones. Blue-dragon was crap imo. Eternal Sonata is the only one I know of on the 360 thats good. Other then mass effect, but I won't acknowledge that as a RPG, when mass-effect is classified as RPG I wonder, how the hell do they class games. Seems more of a action adventure third person RPG something like ff7 DOC was, but more in the future, and no references to anything spiritual. I will be getting mass effect though.. Other then that... Uhm........ I have no clue, get folklore, had a compelling story, and broke away from some stereotypes of RPGs, though it was a action adventure RPG.

Ninety Nine Nights is a great RPG game on the 360.

360: Eternal Sonata(Brilliant jrpg with a awesome story and characters), Mass Effect(comes out next week, looks really awesome!) and Oblivion(managed to get literelly 200 odd hours from that!). Enchanted Arms is also damn good too graphics and story wise, although the random battles can get annoying, but definently wort a get if you don't mind the random battles as the story is really great. Also Blue Dragon is quite good, although it didn't grab my attention really... but i believe its one of those games you either love or hate, download the demo for BD is probably the best bet to see whether you like it.

I would definently recommend all of the above. :)

I would rec

Eternal Sonata is a good choice but its short.

Blue Dragon is okay, but not great. If you liked Dragon Quest VIII you might like it.

Oblivion is just awesome, get the Game of the Year Edition while your at it.

Mass Effect right around the corner. Its from Bioware, so you MUST get that.

As for the PS3 don't waste your money. Just grab Persona 3 for the PS2.

Don't listen to anyone who tells you Oblivion is a good game. It's pretty much a hack n' slash with really, really bad AI. Character creation is limited to the face of your character, their race, and class. Some classes just suck out of control, although you can create your own class, which was one of the only good things I found. It gives you the illusion of freedom, but it's almost impossible to be evil.. If you kill or steal something, it seems the guards magically know, and will demand you to pay a fine, go to jail, or resist arrest. Guards are amazingly strong, which makes you wonder why one of them wasn't sent of this quest (BTW, the quest/story isn't very good or even original). You can change the difficulty at any time during the game, but that's pretty cheap to do, and doesn't affect anything but combat (guards still have that 6th sense I mentioned). If you do manage to kill or escape guards, any other guard in the entire game will somehow be aware to the crimes you committed, and will attack you. There are many stats and skills to level up, but many of them don't do much of anything. Now, the graphics do look amazing in first person, but in third person the frame rates are terrible and your character's animations are horrific: he/she moves like a character from an early Resident Evil.

Now I could continue, but I'll just tell you some good games. Eternal Sonata is fantastic. The art is beautiful and the game is just fun overall. Mass Effect just came out, which is good, from the little I played of it.

Yea. I own oblivion, and although I did enjoy the game for the 80+ odd hours I put into it, it does get boring after a while. I think I'm going to pick up the Eternal Sonata (even though its been out for a while now) It sounds like a fun game, as I haven't heard any negatives about it, at least that I remember. As for Mass Effect, I got someone on my flist on live who plays it and I will ask him what he thinks of it because hes a big RPG fan and probably fairly critical of most RPGS, so I should get a truly honest opinion about it from him. But yea, I think eternal sonata will be a good one for me to check out.

@ Irving - Not much character customization? You can 'only' change your race, your appearance, your class. Have you been living under a rock? What other RPG has given you that much character customization? Other than Mass Effect i can't think of one game which allows you to change you character appearance so much. Also what other game allows you to choose into detail how your class plays? KotOr and Mass Effect both have classes in but even in those you are restricted in what skills the classes have got. Atleast in Oblivion you can choose what skills you have, like what armour to use, what weapon specialization, what other skills you have like alchemy and armorsmithing plus what spells you can use.

I agree its slightly harder to be evil as i agree the guards do have sort of a six sense, but you must be underleveled if you find the guards hard... =/

The story perhaps wasn't the best ever but its better than quite alot of other stuff, plus what made Oblivion so special for me was the guild questlines i enjoyed the Dark Brotherhood and Thieves guild questlines so much and also the side quests weren't the same old sort of side quests you'd find in your adverage RPG.

Ontop of that being able to explore an entire continent with a lush environment and amazing graphics... =|

You may not like it, but thats your opinion on the game.

Eternal Sonata is a great choice, as mentioned before the story and gameplay is absolutly brilliant, its a shame it didn't get the attention is deserved from the public really.

Oh and Mass Effect is stunning too, definently get that too if you have the spare cash. :p

Tell me any game that has the size of bulk of Oblivion and does better, look at Two Worlds:Haha . In case you didn't know Oblivion is the sequel to Morrowind. Now that had bad physics and AI.

Eternal Sonata - Definitely a fun and great game to play. The storyline is great and the musical theme really fits nicely without being too cheesy. I just beat it recently and enjoyed it.

Mass Effect - Just got the game so haven't tried it yet, but from what I've read online and in the instruction manual, looks pretty killer to me. Definitely another hit for the 360.

Oblivion - Too lengthy for my taste.

Blue Dragon - Meh, I know someone who has it and it seems really long ( 3 discs I think? ). Not my style of RPG to be honest.
