Yeah it came out today. Im looked around and did not see a thread about it to my suprise. So far the reviews Im reading say its great and worth the money. Im planing on getting it and I just wana know some impressions of what people think of this game and how they expect it to be because it is from the folks from bioware who brought yah Knights of the Old Republic and Jade Empire.

heard it got a prohibition in singapore because of a lesbian scene.

what i saw so far looked pretty decent. i'm not exactly a fan of sci-fi games (ok jedi knight rocked for most part, simply because lightsabre > laser rifles). there are lots of quite good games out at the moment and the process of testing some of them is a royal pain in the ass. not to forget that more are comming every day.

i'll prolly look into mass effect once i get the chance to do so. bioware usually stands for good games, so it won't be a big risk to give it a shot.

It's possible to have a lesbian scene if you character is female.

I think it's gonna be a great game, it may even take KOTOR off my favorite sci fi RPG. I'll pick this one up sometime soon.

I read the book that came out for it. Very nice story line, if I had a 360 again I would get the game to follow the story line. It looks great.

it's not an fps it's an RPG it just happens to have fps style combat.

it's the kind of next gen thing of moving on from turn based stuff.

Yeah I've been following it for quite awhile and if i ever get a 360 that game will be the sole reason...

Its not out yet in the UK so i'm still pactiently waitin till friday for its release.. :(

I've been following it for ages now althoug ive heard it has a few flaws supsedly over al its a pretty solid rpg which i wouldn't expect anything less from the creators of KotOR and Jade Empire. :P

And yeah you can watch that lesbian scene on gametrailers \o/...

first impressions:

the game looks very decent, the graphics are neatly done altho you kinda have this "sand" effect all over the textures. the facial expressions look as expected simply amazing, the emotions and the dynamic movement of eyes and head work hand in hand. but, the characters seem very rigid in the cut scenes or when they aren't holding their guns. it appears a bit lifeless if there isn't any passive movement of the body such as a little dandling or breathing.

the options to choose what to say and the fact that whatever you do will affect the later game aswell as the answers you can choose is just great, it gives the game the possibility to be played more than just once.

oh and if you're going to create a character, better sit down properly, cuz it might take a while.

the first impression overall is pretty good, some minor mistakes that could have been done better but it still looks amazing.

(based on a gameplay time of roughly 1.5h)

Insight

apparently the grain filter for the graphics can be turned off if you don't like it. it was designed to make it seem more 70's sci fi.

@zero: yeah sucks that it's not out here till friday.

Just because it can't be said enough..

This game is awesome.

You must buy it.

Early-mid game spoilers:
That Matriarch boss is really tough, I'm having trouble on her, any pointers?

Neku
11-26-2007, 02:30 AM
Am i the only one who found the Matriarch easyish..? :|(i'm on Normal so it isn;t cause i set the difficulty to Easy.. ;))

Your the 4th person who i've seen saying shes really tough. I'll copy my guide that i made for this other forum i'm a member of. :p

Basically, what you have to do is kill all her guards. Every time you kill one of her waves of guards, the Matriarch's power gauge will fall in the corner, on Normal there was 3 waves, on other difficulty levels i dunno whether theres more or less waves. Killing the waves are easy compairing to some of the other fights you have encountered before, so it shouldn't be too much trouble. AS LONG AS YOU STAY OUT OF LINE OF SIGHT OF THE MATRIARCH! (She can absolutly obliterate you, thats how i died on my first try). To aviod her using any biotic spells on you, sprint across to each corner for the waves(the waves come out of 2 doors which are in opposite corners(i'm bored so i'll make a map... rofl...)

------------------------------
|E;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;D|
|;;;;;---------;;;-------;;;;;|
|;;;;|OOOO|;;;|OOO|;;;;|
|;;;;;---------;;;-------;;;;;|
|;;;;;;;;;;;;;;.M;;;;;;;;;;;;|
|;;;;;---------;;;-------;;;;;|
|;;;;|OOOO|;;;|OOO|;;;;|
|;;;;;---------;;;-------;;;;;|
|D;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;|
-------------------------------

Key:
E - Entrence
M - Matriarch
O - Walls/poles and such which you can hide behind
D - Doors which the mobs come out of
; - Path(GP ignores spaces in the map, so i've had to use ; so the map doesnt collapse... :|

(I am so proud of that map 8) ) NOOOO My map is ruiinnneeedddd... curse you gameplay... :(

So use the graphical objects marked on that map to avoid getting hit by biotic spells from the M. Ofcourse in the mob corners you might take quite a bit of beating from the mobs, but rather killing them next to each other than being in line of sight of the M and getting owned by her, no?

Don't bother trying to attack the Matriarch untill her power gauge has run out, attacks won't hurt her after all.

In summary - Stay in the corners, own the packs and own her!

PS. I was on lvl 26-28 at the time with my other party members being Ash and Dr Ts'oni(or w/e her name is)

Ignore the references to GP, as thats just the other forum name which this guide was meant for. :)

Eitherway i hope that helps you.

I'm nearish the end of the game now i think... i'm on something like lvl 36, 18hours in and i've got to the final planet or atleast i think it is... although i missed quite a few side quests so what i'll have to do is if i can't go around doing side quests after i've done this planet(aka if the game ends) then i'll just have to load an earlier save game and do side quests from there and then redo the ending.. D:

Oh and btw.. i still wonder how in the world this got a 12 rating in the UK when it has the lovely sex scenes in... :|

True i suppose. :p

Mind you most 12 year olds now adays already know about it anywho.

Anyway i completed it earlier today, the ending wasnt too bad actually, also theyve left it open so the next in the triology can carry on from it so roll on Mass Effect 2! :3

So, I played KOTOR 1 and 2, and disliked both of them (I know, I know, thats just crazy).

I've heard nothing but good about this game. Would I enjoy it? Is it just like the kotor series?

Donut
11-28-2007, 01:53 PM
Mmmmm... If you disliked KotOR I don't know... Mass Effect is better than KotOR imo, a lot. If you like RPG's in general, I suggest you at least give it a spin. It would be a waste missing this game, really.

This is a great game and definite a must buy for anyone who likes RPGs and has a 360.

My team consists of Wrex and Liara. Unstoppable in most instances. XD

So, I bought it the other day and have play it abit, and I'll say that.....

I LOVE IT!!!!!

Great RPG, love the style that BioWare went for, also I love the fact that all your characters have the same exp/level(never have to switch them out often to level them), gameplay is amazing, combat system is top-notch, and the story sucked me right in!!!

Great game!!! Its a must have for any 360 owner.

Beat the game today, was the shit. Worth the money since it actually took me more than 2 days to beat it. Loved the weird blue alien (Liara) smex scene
Can't wait for them sequels or downloadable content. BioWare better be quick.

My team setup is, Liara with maxed out shotty and tech-electronics jumbo for them locked stuff, Wrex or Ashley with Spectre Assault rifle for straight up damage. And I'm the regular Shock Trooper.

p.s. yo SLVR sup' dawg, been ages.

Oh, if you have any questions or probs hit me up.

I got this game a while back and almost never put it down. I do have one question, why does the future have so many elevators?

On another note, I love Sniping while my team moves in behind some cover and blasts them. I usually have Garrus and Wrex/Ashley on my team. Garrus, never leave home without it.

Jinchuu
12-07-2007, 06:54 AM
Elevators are a very important part of Galactic Community, that is why. Another reason, it was thanks to elevators that humanity survived the first contact war. Hope that helps.

Q: Who does in your team hack the nodes or salvages electronics? Cuz Garrus only has descryption and Ashley is soldier class.

I got a question. Is this game online at all? The comercial for it I seen said "live" at the end of it with the xbox logo, so I was just wondering if theres any sort of online play with it.

Jinchuu

I don't believe so but apparently there will be Downloadable content, new sagas maybe.

Ethanol
12-08-2007, 05:07 AM
I played as an infiltrator so I basically did all the hacking and electronics on my team. If not, I'll probably have Tali do it all for me.

The game isnt online, but there was talks of downloadable content, but yet I havent seen any.

SLVR
12-08-2007, 05:16 AM
Yo Jinchuu. I imagine new content will be out by spring break. Ive been looking but I aint heard nothing yet. I think they could make elevator times faster though.

By spring break, GTA4 - MGS4 - DMC4 and Ninja Gaiden 2 will be out, I don't think I can be "that" faithful.

This game is great though probably not to the point of being GOTY material. I have only played 5 hours of the game but I can definately say that the story is great, the visuals are stupendous from the large, explorable envirnoments to the great facial expressions, and the voice acting is top-notch. However, there are many technical issues and there are several problems to the combat system. The AI isn't the best and there is a lot of loading in the game. I am not saying the combat isn't fun but am merely saying it could have been improved. However, so far, I think Mass Effect is worth checking out if you can look past the technical issues.

If this game ever comes out on PC (which I'm sure it will.... eventually) I will get it.

I find that games like KOTOR and Jade Empire start "exclusively" only for Xbox but soon get re-released on PC.

Looks awesome.

played and completed this game in about 3 days of constant play i was too addicted. sill it was amazing the choices at the end and the way they tied the story noff enough to make it satisfying but that it leaves it open for the next game.

now my dilema is wether to play it through again with a new character of play it through to get my origional character up to level 60.

PC version drops today in the US.

I played it on the Xbox but I'm planning to get it on PC as well, hopefully menus have been polished up (as well as the AI).

From what I've seen, it looks like there are interface options that allow you to cycle through abilites and not have to freeze time and bring up the power wheel.

I'm hoping that mods do for Mass Effect what they did for Oblivion.

Vampyrelord
05-28-2008, 02:21 PM
It should work better on PC, the circular menus are a real ***** to navigate with the 360 controllers. Not to say it's not a fantastic game <3

A bit short though -I'm just happy there will be two sequels and you will be able to transfer your character :)

My main complaint though would be that the leveling up, abilities and equipment are all a bit oversimplified for my tastes...

I work at a kotor mod site, i hope they release it for the PC but i did already beat it on the Xbox, Level 60, Colossus armor it was pretty easy. at least i think it was KOTOR was better but this, this is not to be shunned either. the new content i havent tried it yet. but maybe i will When they release for PC they're will be mods.

@Vampyrelord: this isnt your baisc JRPG this is an ARPG (american RPG) THough this is made by the legendary candian company Bioware (They are legendary TRUST ME) I think the simplness makes it good

i hope in the sequel you can make good and evil choices that dramatically effect the storyline and ending not the Cruel and Nice alignment Cruel ending is the same the Nice one, your just a person who takes thing by force, but same objective kinda bad for a bad side.
and more customization making my character took forever, its that good.

Nail

One thing I didn't like about the weapons was that they all, within their own category, felt the same. I should be able to know the difference from a Storm I and an endgame shotty just by using it, you know? They should be that different. Other than that, no complaints with the weapons/armor system. Of course, the inventory system NEEDS a huge overhaul and if that doesn't come in MEPC anyways we'll be able to get it in a mod.

Kuroudo
05-29-2008, 12:07 AM
oh yeah Inventory definetly the whole limited things you can hold in your um inventory was crap. and it was too easy to open locked containers, and we need something more than light medium heavy armors maybe some more classes and maybe even just regular clothing?

Nail
05-29-2008, 01:25 PM
So I've been looking at the videos on the ME site and it looks like the timestop-command fuction still exists- but there will be one screen for all functions.

http://img123.imageshack.us/img123/7539/picture004qy9.jpg (http://imageshack.us)

Your abilities, as it seems, are bound to the number keys. But you can also trigger them from the tactical menu if you wish (I guess stopping time gives you time to think, eh?) and you still have to switch you weapons from there (but there's probably a hotkey option for that.)

I like this new interface a lot.

lol, agreed

Given that I own and have completed: Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II Throne of Bhaal, Neverwinter Nights, KotOR, Jade Empire and Mass Effect, I probably know more about Bioware's greatness than anyone :D (except that Neverwinter Nights is shit, but we'll ignore that :p)

I like the idea of having two alignment bars rather than one, that really works - it means you can't just murder someone and then make up for it.

IMO, JRPGs are highly overrated (Golden Sun is the only one I like).

But seriously, Mass Effect was a bit too simplified for me. As a hardcore RPG player, I think complex is good!

If possible in the sequel i want my character to turn to the dark side and take over the universe with the bad guys which i tried in the first game but apparently being fully renegade didnt change anything, it just made Saren shoot himself i was like what? cmon.
