Well, it's a debate that has long gone on inside my head, and i'm sure others here have thought about it:
Which game is better? KotOR 1, or KotOR 2?
In my opinion, KotOR 1 is better. The plot is stronger, and more fun to deal with in this game. In KotOR 2 I found that there was some weak spots in the plotline that wasn't very appealing. However, in KotOR 2, all those situations in KotOR 1 where you have to save in the middle of big boss fights, or when fighting many enemies, have practically vanished.
The graphics, however, are much better in KotOR 2. I LOVED the fact that my Jedi robes didn't stick to me like spandex anymore, and how they blew in the wind~ Also, the characters appearance, and the surrounding environments are much larger, and more fun to explore, although exploring large jungles, or grasslands can get tedious at times.
The battle system is pretty much the same in both games, so I have nothing really to add here, except that some new awesome abilities were added in KotOR 2 that I enjoyed.
One thing that annoyed me in KotOR 2 was it's EXTREMELY long tutorial level. Paragus was just oo long for me, while as the Endar Spire tutorial level was much shorter, and let you get involved in the game much faster.
Nothing more that I can think of right now. I like both games a lot, but KotOR just has a better feel to it then it's sequel.
Post away~

KotOR 1 blows KotOR 2 away. The plot is worlds ahead and makes a lot more sense. It also had better characters with better backgrounds (Carth kicks Atton's ass, and Kreia was extremely pointless). Malak made much more sense as a villain, instead of Nihilus(who is pretty awesome), that gray zombie dude, and Traya, although that just comes back to plot. Plus, am I the only one who felt the conversations in 2 were broken? I swear I was stuck in a loop with Mira while trying to turn her into a Jedi.

Kotor 1 has an AMAZING story. But Kotor 2 has Nihilus...so ...hmmm .. ummm..
Bluntly put:
Kotor 1 > Kotor 2 in plot, story, character development AND it has Revan-sama in it all in one package.
Kotor 2 > Kotor 1 in graphics,it has new techniques e.t.c. AND it has Nihilus teh coolest Sith ever.
Ill return to this topic later.. with a LONG post :D
p.s try the mod in which you play in Nihilus costume. Awesome :)

Always get the computer version so you can mod the game. Its more fun that way. Especially with modded items. With enough skill, you can allow yourself pretty much any item ingame, and with more modification, you can somehow change all armor to be... Not armor, and you can use force lighting in 'em.
Of course, this is all HEAVY modification, and unless you don't mind reinstalling, I recommend not wasting too much time doing so. Though, I find myself actually wearing the Sith Soldier outfit for the entire game. I have a fetish for full-outfits that cover the entire skin/face. Was disappointed that in KOTOR I, the Star Forge robes had no hood. Darn.

I thought the first game was better.
I thought the first game had a better story, It had better characters like Revan and Malek (who was a much better villian than Darth Nihilus who was a wasted potential and Sion). I thought HK-47 was great ("should I kill the meatbag now?") and the overall character and plot development was better.
However I did think that KOTOR had better locations. My biggest problem with KOTOR was how boring Taris was during replays and I never felt that with KOTOR 2 and KOTOR 2 was better in allowing you to turn everyone into Jedi (well most anyway). I was sort of disappointed by KOTOR 2 because so much was cut and the game was rushed, which hopefully the fan mods will sort out.
as disappointed that in KOTOR I, the Star Forge robes had no hood. Darn.
It was also disappointing in not being able to wear Revan's mask when you turned darkside.

I'm a KOTOR 1 fan, the only thing i like KOTOR 2 for is that your entire party changes sides with you.

I don't like it. I preferred it when your party stood on their sides of their own alignment and argued with you. Its just more real. >_>

i liked both games... i love the kotor 1 story but i loved kotor 2's new powers and the party alignment system... but both left me with sadness when they did not allow you to put your hood up on your robes....

Both were GREAT...but KOTOR 2 was potentially better...however it was too bad there were a lot of cuts in it, and for those who dun know...there were a lot of cuts in it
KOTOR had a great storyline, not seen in many years in starwars games...and KOTOR II's story couldn't have been a better sequel...however the cuts that were made in it
Genoharadan
Droid Planet
Master Vash alive
SOme things one Telos with Master forgot her name
Droid Factory
Malachor V stuff
and other things, cuz they were short in time...otherwise I'm pretty sure that KOTOR II would have been better than KOTOR...however...it isn't
so KOTOR indeed is better...but still KOTOR II was FANTASTIC (I loved it's darkness), no discussion possible on that part

but i liked how in KOTOR 1 you played Revan, you're someone different in KOTOR 2...
except one thing i hate about them, i takes to long to get your Saber, but that is what hacks are for :toocool: so you can start with a saber, muhahaha
I haven't fully completed KotOR 2...(i was playing it a few weeks back, but then i got Assassin's Creed and Mass effect, which ofcourse took my attention way from KotoR 2..) but so far, i'm definently going for KotOr.
Kotor had much better characters for starters... I mean at first you think your main character was a nobody who just had a connection to the force... which changes dramatically later on in the game. The second main character Bastilla, which i just loved to wind her up with her ego also the plot goes really deep into her as a character like later on when she gets taken away, plus the side quest with her mother/father and with that as well as being the 'Love intrest' of the male main characters, it completed her as a character. Carth was just an annoying arguementative bastard who didn't trust anyone, all through the planet Taris if you talk to him, he will argue with you.. xD, with the added bonus of being able to find his son and also the the 'love intrest' of the female main char(although i played as a man, so i can't say much about that on a whole. Which imo all 3 of them made a brilliant '3 musketeers'. Also ofcourse not forgetting the other ones, like Jolee with his lol adventures and HK47 saying 'Want me to kill that meatbag?"(him saying that made me SO tempted to let him kill 'em tbh... xD. Where as KotOR 2 you get an annoying Atton who rarely talks and if he does hes moaning about Kreia and then theres Kreia rambling on about the dark side, and not saying anything else due to having to be bad to get influence with her.. :| Plus the main character isn't all that special so far... being under Revan... that sure is a reality blow from who the main character is in the first game... :X I think it would of been better if that arrogant woman was a character(ya'know that jedi master who used to have a thing for the main character before he got exiled..).
The graphics in Kotor 2 were much better, as mentioned before, having robes that didn't look like some material stuck to your body FTW...
The story so far seems a bit flat, like all the sith comming back from Malchor V or w/e it is compairing to the greatest 2 Jedi ever turning rogue and taking over the planet, then the apprentece turning on his master and killing him(little did he know he didn't kill him...)
The massive downside for KotOR 1 however was Taris, was the reason why i didn't play it untill 3 years after i got it. Taris was extreamly boring, i mean you had no jedi powers what so ever, the other char your with argues with you all the time, other one doesnt talk with you and then the other one is annoyingly happy.. You spent like a 1/3 of your playtime on Taris which really annoyed me.. Where as on 2 you get straight to the point, although you still don't start with a Lightsaber, you still got force powers which are extreamly fun to use.

so they both have good points and bad points, so that should just make people happy.

OKAY, before we go on discussing...
PUT SPOILERS IN THE SPOILER TAGS
Seriously, no one wants to come in here and get he game ruined for them by figuring out
The main characters identity, or the side characters quests.
It REALLY sucks when you go into a thread like this looking for a good debate on which game you should play first, and then get he whole thing SPOILED.
So, if you mentioned anything I said in the Spoiler tags, or anything you think is spoiler tag worthy, please go back and put spoiler tags around.
Thanks~
Thats why i deliberetly didn't mention anything spoiler tag worthy, yet. :p

Does it really matter? The games are a few years old now.
Anywho,
KOTOR I was better plot wise, KOTOR II was better graphics wise, because well it was a newer game and all that, so graphics were expected. And I liked how if you tried hard enough to you could get nearly everyone one on your team to become a Jedi.
I need to play these games again to get a feel for them once again. Too bad my Xbox is crap now, gotta wait till I get my 360.

KOTOR original was vastly better than KOTOR II.
Why?
BECAUSE THE PLOT MADE SENSE. Seriously, Kotor II's plot was fairly pathetic. I've played loads of different RPGs, and seriously, I could not follow Kotor II's plot (the only game I had more trouble following was Sword of Mana :p). There are so many points in Kotor II which simply don't make sense, chiefly:
Kreia has a force bond to you - if she dies, you die. But when she dies at the end, they don't explain why you don't die too!
The plot was just generally lame, actually. The character interaction was nice, but I think there should be a balance - some characters following you, others opposing you, some being easily influenced, others not so.
The Peragus mining facility was great the first time, but VASTLY worse than Taris - it takes forever!
Malachor V generally looked stupid too. And they screwed up swoop racing, loads of the levels are impossible.
I liked the graphics improvements, but since the game was rushed, why didn't they just scrap the graphics improvements and focus on stuff which *really matters* in an rpg, like a half decent plot, for example?
Equally, it didn't really *feel* like Star Wars, the themes felt rather odd (like hell does Kreia fit in with any other Star Wars film or game), but I liked the addition of epic classes.
The end of Kotor II was pretty crap, too. I didn't understand what the point of everything had been, and the final villain was lousy.
Overall, Kotor II is a great game, but NOTHING compared to Kotor original.

VampyreLord -
When she dies, you don't die, because she has been corrupt once again and her force bond has broken, that is why you where able to beat her. if the bond was still in place, you wouldn't have been able to touch her

i found though that kotor 2 was a bit more of a challenge though and more interesting getting influence with people.
in kotor you just had to talk to the characters every planet.

Personally I loved kotor 1, great story, and good gameplay, whereas kotor 2 had a decent story but a incredible gameplay experience.
As far as overall which one is better, I'd choose kotor 2 as I'm not that big of fan of the Star Wars story line.
