I have just installed Debian on my last Windows computer but there is one problem with this installation:
THE MONITOR IS MESSED UP!
I can only get a resolution of 800x600 on my laptop.
Oh by the way, never buy a Dell

i think that when you start linux you have an option to enter some sort of expert mode and you can change the resolution on boot

Dell's linux support does lack quite a bit. Anyone find it funny that dell's "open source" pcs without windows cost more than the same computer with windows? Also, if you want, you can "return" windows back to microsoft and get some of your money back if you still have the licenses. I forget how, but I remember seeing a guide on dumping the "windows tax", might be able to get some cash back. I usually build my own computers, so I haven't had the opportunity to redeem my windows tax, but I am tempted to buy a windows computer just to do it.
Also, congrats rexanni.

There is nothing wrong with Dell Computers... Dell sells one of the best LCD monitors out there and my Dell Laptop bought it for 750, originally 1500 (Yes I snatched that great deal :D).

I said dell's linux support lacked, not that theres something wrong with dell. Personally, I was looking to purchase a dell monitor a few months ago, but ultimately didn't. I don't have a real problem with dell, I just prefer building my own :)
But as for "never buy a dell", that's a bit extreme. "Never buy a dell if you plan to use linux on it" might be a better way to word it, at least that's my philosophy.
