View Full Version : Forms of discrimination
If you feel in any way outraged by someone's discrimination against you, post here.
However, if it is stupid, such as saying "Observation" is "Blindist" then don't post.
Such an important issue. I was thinking about my brother whose in a wheelchair. You know when we're little and we like to get our parents to carry us but then people think you're abit too big to be carried around? Well,my brother started to lose his ability to walk at quite a young age. When people looked at him funny he ignored them but you know sometimes it just swells up. We were going out for dinner and apparently this couple started saying all kinds of shit about my brother being too old (he was 10 at the time) then he jst let loose, shouting back that he couldnt walk so it wasnt his fault. Those people got faced hah.
I hate it when people nowadays make fun of disabled people because of how they look. They fail to realise that they're humans as well and they have feelings. Pisses me off when they do that, and I've got my brother so it takes so much of me to not shout at them. Yeah, i know this isnt really discrimination against me but its against my family and my bro is all ive got and i love him anyway.

Discriminating against age is just plain stupid. Those who do that have no life honestly :rolleye09
I sorta know what you mean when you're discriminated for being Korean cause I'm Malaysian, which means Im asian as well. Racism will never die I reckon lol
I quote the Bible: "The meek shall inherit the earth"
Also, Be nice to nerds, because you'll end up working for one some day.
-----------------------------------
Being more serious, discrimination is only that which is bred into a person, or to make a person feel like more of a person.
As an example, most of the homeless (yes, I am discriminating) are prejudiced against the homosexual community because they feel like they have to be somebody, they have to belong to society.
We are all open to the views and gazes of others so long as we have a body. This body is open to manipulation, torture, and the general consent of the world. A body is not "owned" by any one person.
----------------------------------------------
I hope that I didn't offend anyone in this response, and if I did, then I am sorry.

Ya well I have a similar issue... I'm not Korean, I'm an Egyptian and that for some reason seems funny to a lot of people... Kinda bugs me... I don't like commenting on how people look or are... so why should they?

People discriminate against me all the time lol I couldnt care less tho considering I know they are very unintelligent beings but the fact that They are stupid pisses me off even more.
I hate stupid people.
Does me hating stupid people mean IM discriminating? lol
Technically it isnt considering its not prejudice, I usually find out they are stupid thru out there actions and words but then again it could still be prejudice.... Nonetheless If your gonna whine and cry about discrimination, go hurt your self, Why should you care what people do/say to "offend" your feelings. Learn to deal with it, we live in a horrid world.

the best way to defeat racism is to embrace it, make it so that it doesnt hurt, and no harm is meant.
Accepting others: Human Nature will not allow it.
Unfourtunately, we can never rid ourselves of the prejudice and hatred. We are forever doomed to have it, and if you say that you don't have it...
You just become the picture of that hatred and you become the production of evil.
-----------------------------------------
Logic is inheritly flawed. No matter the reason, only that which is proven true through action can be shown as being true.
Consider this: "This sentence is false." Is it true or false?
We are all constrained by our exterior condition and in essence: you are not yourself.

well.. for years i've been taunted for being Bulgarian... but according to this country I am not a minority.. simply because i'm white... but that never stopped the stupid ppl! .. and in all honesty i love everybody.... it takes a lot... and i mean a lot... to make me angry.. unless your my boyfriend which is a different story....
honestly if you wanna do away with racism/discrimination/prejudice/whatnot... then your just gonna have to kill off all the stupid people in this world... and that would be bad because we would only have a quarter of the population left.... that isn't a good thing...... and we need stupid people to laugh at... like that guy who ran from the cops and was cought in a doughnut shop.... c'mon.. you know not to run in the doughnut shop!!!! but.. i mean.. i used to be a cashier at 3 different stores.. and it's all the same... people are stupid and they think they are the smartest thing to walk the Earth... we can't do anything about it.. and you can't help the way someone is brought up... i mean... i'm racist against the gypsies in my country... but that's mainly because they teach their 3-5 year old children to pickpocket... in front of churches... so i'm justified in my racism against them... i'm not religious.. but honestly... what the hell... but yeah... we can't do anything about it... it's there and always will be... so just ignore them and live your life! enjoy the fact that your smart and will go somewhere in life.. and they just simply won't!!! whee!!!

Fascion - Isn't calling someone stupid:
1)Only based on comparing one against another (and thus leading to those on bottom being stupidity)?
2)Discriminating against those who are socially or intellectually unmotivated?

what i define as stupid... is someone who lacks common sense, and does not know how to get their point across... or have no point to make at all.... in my opinion....
and it isn't a matter of being motivated or not.... if you have the ability to be intellectually motived or socially then why don't you take it? hence why i am racist against our gypsies... they have the ability to be something... but they just choose the easy way out.. and our gov. is now helping them by giving them money....
stupid... ...... you can argue with me if you want! i won't take it personally... cuz this is what it is.. a debate... you don't HAVE to agree... and Fect i actully like what your doing.... c'mon ppl!!! debate!!!

In my opinion people whine about the stupidest things nowadays. Whenever something in a show or commercial "offends" someone, people act like it's the end of the world. There are stories about feminists whining because women are not represented enough in television. I think the figure was 40% of show characters are women while 60% are men. Boo hoo, go cry a river. I don't watch TV for accuracy, I watch to be entertained. The reason there aren't as many women in Television is because women are boring unless portrayed in a certain less than proper manor. When women stop calling men "couch potatos" and start watching TV as much as us, then they can compain.
Taking the offensive is Shaehl:
TV isn't a real depiction of life - more than 50% of the world is female. I don't believe that to be the proper example to use.
More over, the world is a place where we can never be ourselves - Our bodies are open to the gazes, thought, and violent actions of others. We are a part of a collective community, and what I have is open to the discrimination of others.
Whether it be as immaterial as wealth or as material as race: we are all subject to the classification and stereotypes that others set on us.

I'm not sure what you're getting at. I know Television isn't a real depiction of life. That is why I can't stand it when people get so caught up in how often their gender is represented, or how their race gets portrayed. The TV industry is a business, all the special interest groups harassing networks don't seem to realize that. Networks don't air more whites on one show because they have it out for black people, they do it because it is more profitable. Why is it more profitable? Because their viewers make it so. If we really want to see more minorities on television, we as viewers first have to make such a thing benifitial to the company. Forcing a network to air more women or minorities doesn't actually change anyone's mind about racism or sexism.

Seriously though, I agree with shael about TV and commercials just being a business. I'm black and I've recieved my own share of discrimination; I don't know why, but many white kids at my college seem scared of (well not frightened, but more like "lets avoid him to avoid trouble") black kids. It's really annoying because (not trying to be conceited) I have no black people in my classes in college (yeah I'm taking multi-variable calculus, engineering physics, differential equations ... you know, the stuff that most blacks don't care for), just asians and whites; and for some reason they just seemed scared of me for no reason, anyhow they came to learn that I won't get pissed off if they accidently, stepped on my boots or I don't freak out when I hear the N word, then they loosened up.
anyway, like sheal said, you shouldn't really blame TV for how stereotypes are depicted. IMO it makes for good entertainment, I mean family guy and American dad can be said to be sexist (constant mild women jokes on those shows), but hey they're still funny; well at least family guy is. Dave chapelle is hilarious IMO, and most of his material has to do with racial stereotypes; so you see it's all just for our entertainment I don't think TV means any harm

A lot of people hate me because I'm Catholic, and they also like telling me I'm going to hell, needless to say I get a little put out. People like to tell me what I belive, like that I think the Pope is God and my life revolves around church and other bullshit like that. No, I don't think your going to hell because your not Catholic, I don't think there's anything wrong with Homosexuality, and I'm pro-life, but everyone seems to assume that that's what I believe. It's really something you get sick of. I see SO much stuff on the internet about how Catholics engineered the rise of the Nazi empire and how were in control of the governent and really screwed up stuff. It's just a religion people, an organised system of belief that your religion most likey came from (unless your Jewish or Muslim), so lay off... K, think I'm done now :)

Discrimination is met for people that don't have lives, but want to prove that they have lifes by *trying* to make a point. A point that another race/relgion/etc shouldn't exist, or they disagree with the things they do, so they try to bash it down.
Discrimination is debating with ethusiam. Sure, people debate, but bringing the personal reflection of ones ways and morals is not the right thing to do. If we were all met to be the same, and follow the samething, then why were we made all different?
People do, however, get personal pleasure and delight from hurting peoples feelings and crushing thier morals. People like that, need help. If you're going to get bashed for things you believe in, then why even bother dreaming? Or believing?
However, if we all had lives, which met we mainly cared about ourselves and our loved ones, then would there be discrimination? I think not. People need to be more pre-occupied with life.

I agree. I think it's normal however to expect something of someone you hardly kno. For instance, if you're in an elevator with someone that has thier face painted a pale white, and wears all black clothing with chains on thier pants I doubt you'll be at ease. But if you actually get to know the person for who they are and not how they dress or what thier beliefs are then you'll see that the media really puts ideas of what to expect from certain people. Discrimination is just plain wrong and although it is just a business, I really think the media's to blame.

No one promotes abstinence on TV. Hell, they're trying to make it illegal to promote abstinence period. And by the way, the only form of abstinence IS no sex at all. That's what abstinence means. Also, is what the schools are doing any better? Handing out condoms to everyone? WTF. "Oh, kids are going to have sex no matter what so lets give them all condoms." That's like saying, "Kids are going to get a hold of guns no matter what, so lets give them guns with safeties on them. It's just absurd. I don't know what country you live in, or what shows you watch, but you must have been high when you saw all this "propoganda" on TV.

i didn't say it was on tv.. i heard it was going to be... and i think that handing out condoms is a lot better than just saying "don't have sex..." ... whose gonna listen? even with std's kids are still having sex at a younger and younger age... i'm sorry if this is getting outta hand and all.. but all i wanted to say was that if we really wanted the media to stop showing us stupid shit.. then we wouldn't watch it... like everyone says commercials are shit.. and no one says anything when there's two characters in a movie standing next to a starbucks... um helloooo that's advertising too!... i guess i was just trying to have everyone do something about it rather than just complain about it... the tv telling us this telling us that... i just thought that if we, being the most of the population, just stopped watching they'd have to change something... or not.. cuz there's always gramma who turns on the tv.. damnit nanna! ... ok, it's not gonna work.. lets just go back to the topic.... yeah... everyone here has been discriminated against... so ... yeah... lets hear some stories... like that first page asked for... yeah..

I don't really have a problem with the advertising on TV. They have to make money somehow and really, it doesn't interfere with my life in anyway. Sure, seeing someone rent out their bald head for advertising space might be annoying on occasion, but I just can't seem to muster up enough annoyance to care.
As for discrimination stories... Hmmm. When I lived in Germany and attended a German school, there were a few kids that had it out for me. After I broke one of their noses and accused them of trying to make me smoke, I didn't have any problems. Funny thing is, they had actually been accused of forcing kids to smoke before.

FascionViktem5k
11-23-2005, 04:36 AM
holy crap! he stabbed you with a pencil?!?!? and they say children don't know the difference between right and wrong... i think we should be able to take children to court just like any adult... have you, or anybody else in here, heard about the story of these two 9 year old boys who took this 4 year old away from his mom and beat him, and i believe hazed him but i'm not sure about that.. and then left him on the train tracks to cover it up... ... yeah.. now they are like .. under protective custody and they like changed their names and all that... honestly if they have the ability to brutally kill a four year old... and cover it up by putting him on the train tracks for the train to ruin.. i don't think they should be protected... they should be tried and sent to prison like any other person.. that kid that stabbed you.. you should have been able to like.. get charges against him... did he like get sent to juvi or something like that? .. even though that's like a camp for them...

11-23-2005, 05:23 AM
Yeah, but that kid in particular was really weak and a lot of the force was absorbed by my jacket. Barely broke the skin. For somehting like that though, I wouldn't send the kid to jail. I'd rather deal with the situation myself if possible.
Also, I do think a lot of kids know the difference between right and wrong at a much earlier age than people think. However, children usually aren't mature enough to make responsible decisions, regardless of whether they if it's right or wrong. But beating and burdering some 4 year old is just blatantly wrong and inexcusable. If I ran things, those 9 year olds would by locked up forever. Stuff like that makes me sick.

well, earlier in class today my teacher started making fun of me being a homeschooled through highschool...(i'm in my freshman year of college)...he wasnt targeting it in a offensive matter, jsut kinda teasing it...i know that there are arguements about homeschooling not being an effective manner of raising kids, but still works and we are people too...we're not lower than anybody else or above...we got stupid kids just like high schools got stupid kids...the same with smart kids......

I myself have been homeschooled since 3rd grade, and am still homeschooled. I am 16 at the moment. If anything, homeschooling has given me far more opportunities than I would normally have. In addition to my normal schoolwork, I also take various classes at a community college, inlcuding honors composition(I love wriitng.). I don't see how people can think we're shafted, although it doesn't bother me when they do, because their opinions don't change the fact that I am the youngest person in the class and doing better than half of them.)
I was considered a nerd where I went.
The same thing applies to private school kids, so don't sweat it. People feel the need to stereotype so that they can put a standard on groups deciding whether they are "safe" to be with. However, many take these too far, harming those of a certain group that isn't the one that they desire to be a part of.

My school gave me a letter because I'm half African and it listed how smart and dumb every ethnic group is and "Black/Asian" where the least achieving races and so they said I should go to this thing. I found it offensive because they didn't bother to check my grades and sent me it almost assuming I'm stupid. But I don't think it was meant to be offensive because they're just trying to help people in the minorities to achieve more (probably just to reach percentages we're not targeting O_o) and so yeah..
And then this form was given to us (me and the people in my year/grade) to fill out and it said something about school related stuff and then it randomly asked for us to put our race and they're just going to put us in catagories like that again and I do not like it. I didn't put mine down, one of my teachers was amazed to find out the school sent me that letter though, he didn't believe me =P
I don't like our headteacher, not a lot of people do, she got too bigheaded 'cause our school is one of the 'best schools' in our location.
IT'S CRAP NOW!!
I like 'nerds', they're smart. ^^ Apart from this one guy who scares me, always chatting about world domination in a weird way. O_O. And how he wants to make an acid swimming pool full of piranas (sp?) so that any enemies can die there. O_o He doesn't even seem like he's joking, ha ha.
Lol, I like how ghosts were described as 'energy people' there, that made me laugh. Brilliance in a bottle.
Also, once because I type with punctuation and all that, this person was being mean to me (he was an idiot, anyways) and called me a goth, ha ha. Just because I type better than them. Tsk. I hate when people try to label me, for the simple fact that I couldn't say I'm anything. You could say I was something, but your opinion of what I am would probably change 'cause I have different clothes. And I don't get the whole judging people 'cause of how they look.. or how they type =P I understand how people determain them, kind of.

My goodness! are you serious strangechild? (hey is it ok if I call you Nila instead, strangechild is kinda long) That'll make headline news if a school sent out letters like that here in the US. These americans, small things like that tick them off. But in all seriousness, that is very wrong to label people like that, I personally won't find it offensive, then again hardly anything offends me.
Black intelligence is very undermined where I stay, it's all good though, most instructors are nice and try to help out kids in minority ethnic groups so I take advantage of minority scholarships and stuff like that even though I'm one of the best students in every class I'm in (not to be conceited, but it's just the truth)

i'm all for minority scholarships... cuz minorities deal with a lot of crap... and then they have to pay for school? so i don't really think its a bad idea... just when they abuse it... like a 1.8 minority having more scholarship money and playing video games all day rather than the 3.5 non-minority who studies all the time and is getting less money... that's the only unfair thing about it... and in my school it's not uncommon... and usually when you see the percenteges of which ethnic group is in which academic range, in America it's always the Asian minorities that are in the top percentile... that's weird... why would they send you a letter like that? (and yes any small thing will make an American sue... even if you were doing some daily thing... which is so stupid.. of course that's not ALL Americans.... but there's quite a few of them like that out there..)
and i forgot what else i was going to say..... so .. yeah...

Yup. You can call me Nila =P
LOL, I watch Rikki Lake sometimes, 'cause they put it back on, and it CRACKS ME UP how they make a big deal. It must be so racist in some areas, I swear. One of their episodes was deciated to bi-racial kids because a lot of them get picked on?! How dumb.
I find it annoying for people to label me, only 'cause they can't and they change it all the time, I wish they'd just stick to one thing.
Lol, good for you! I think it's good that they're helping out, but it's the way they laid out the letter.. it was written as if it said I was dumb because of these statistics. O_o
I've never heard of minority scholarships though...
We have a lot of refugees in England, maybe that's why Asians are at the bottom, orientals are somewhere else.
Because if I'm stupid they can help me, if I want the help.

Strange child I get those to I hate them but one of my biggest thing is how the teachers always confuse all the african kids with each other me and several others get called by 3 diffrent names by a teacher and he dose it every single day. I can understand once or twice but everyday. Also I hate how I get labed at chinese just beacuse im 25% Korean. People calling me the black chinese kid. but it dosent matter because in the end they get there kicks from other peoples pain and when they get arrested for doing drugs the world will be a better place.

I hate that also, I have arguments with people on behalf of people (to do with races, sexuality preference or whatever). Myyyy friend said to me...
[Talking about the music video "Just a Day" - Feeder]
Friend: Yeah, those Japanese guys.
Me: How'd you know they're Japanese?
Friend: 'Cause the bassist on Feeder is Japanese.
Me: What has the bass player got to do with them?
Friend: They probably have connections with him, innit.
Me: No. I thought it was just fans sending in videos. I don't think you should just say that because the bassist is Japanese...
Friend: Look at their names at the end then. What are they?
Me: [Looks] Kosei and Kaz, I think.
Friend: Are they not Japanese names?
Me: My name's Latin, am I Latin? You're name's Arabic, are you Arabic?
Friend: No.
Me: So why are you trying to act as if your name determines your race? You don't know if the bassist has anything to do with those guys. They might be Japanese, I'm not saying they're not. I know you find it insulting when someone says you're African, so you know. Sh.
Friend: [annoyed but silent].
Lol. My mate's Jamaican, by the way.
I get called Anisha a lot 'cause there's this girl called Anisha, who looks nothing like me, we don't even have the same kind of hair, but we both have our hair in a bun (even though she's got longer hair than me now) and are sort of dark skinned. =P I get called Nuala (Noo-la) as well, but she's got pale skin, ginger hair and blue eyes, ha ha, so I guess they just call me that 'cause it's like my name?.. O_o. Weird teachers. This one teacher kept calling me Vanilla, my name doesn't even start with a V... ¬_¬

Wow, I still can't believe they actually do that in england! *Imagines what Bill O'reilly would say about that*(for those that don't know who he is, he has a news show on Fox). Anyway it's been a long time since I schooled in england so I guess I was too young to even remember letters of that kind, IMO a school should be more responsible than that, although they're just trying to help, they might just get more than they bargained for by angry parents or activists.
And Xavier you're teacher is a real d!*kweed (don't ask; I heard it somewhere) is he trying to be funny or is his memory that pathetic? names aren't that hard to learn if you put some effort into them

=P My mother didn't really care or anything. I guess some people who are very touchy about racism might. But I think it'd be pointless, because it wasn't meant to be offensive and what are they gonna do anyways? Say sorry and change how they word their letters. Big wow. O_o. Try and do something about the KKK instead. Don't bother trying to sort out these tiny things, which don't mean to be offensive anyways. >_<

Yeah I know they didn't mean any harm by that, I automaticaly assumed Xavier was in england too (don't know why); anyway parents here sure wouldn't take your advice if that happened - your advice being, leave small issues like that alone - it would make for some nice news though, I love it when they argue/debate on the news.
As for KKK, I honestly think those guys are unfortunately here to stay; they may not be as eminent as terrorists as of yet but thats just because thier victims are minoirties, Americans wouldn't be too bothered though, because in thier opinion the only victims in the country are young caucasian females. no one ever bothers to partake on a large scale search for a missing latino or black female, but when Natalie holloway got missing, we didn't hear anything on the news besides that for 2 months.
On the topic of the KKK -
They are somewhat fading, but they empitimize discrimination (no offense to other users out there). In their earlier years, they attacked Jews, African Americans, etc. (basically anyone who wasn't a white christian). Several lawsuits fell and that chapter on history closed- All the top officials of the KKK were convicted and sent to jail.
Nowadays, they serve to represent the far right wing, who want only "pure Christian Caucasians." This in itself is discrimination. The Government has the ability to decide what is valuble life and what is not. This accounts for all the large media coverage over caucasians, while many hispanic and African American cases go unsolved.
When the government puts a label on each person, they create an invizible barrier that protects those inside or in the barrier from being killed.

Hmmm, I think Religous discrimination is pretty big there for me. Well, more like steryotypical kinda thing, for example buddhist's have to be this... christians have to be that...

and the KKK... well.... those people are just "special" .... their GPA is like 0... c'mon... we're gonna take them seriously? and it is true that the media does the same thing the KKK does... only shows the white girl... but who cares about the black girl who went missing as well...
and that also has to do with money... most minorities are financially worse than white people.. (which is unfair in itself) ... and that whole Natalie thing.. well.. her parents were.. well... financially well off... lol! so that's why she was on the news so much.... which is why i didn't watch the news... (did they even find her?)
and yeah.... i don't know wat else to say.. bye!

Unfortuntely she hasn't been found, not to sound pessimistic but I think she's dead because you hardly find people that have gone missing this long.
Anyway yeah I guess it has to do with wealth too, but still even white male victims don't get as much air time on the news as do females; I think the news networks just air stories they think will interest America as a whole. It's sad though, because I just imagine all the other young ladies who have gone missing and the news just makes light mention of it and never again is it brought up. Don't they realize that publicity of a case increases the chance that the person might be found?
But instead of doing the right thing, they put *less important* missing persons in the "look what this dog did!" section

Nah im not from england but yea something happend to day in the workout room for P.E class I was on one of the machines and theres a perfectly good one unattended to right next to me. This kid tells me to get off I said im using it. and theres one right there he tells me to get off again I told him no. So he goes and tells his dad who happens to be the teacher of the P.E class and he tells me to get off and I said I was using it and that theres another one right there hes like ok well you know what now your gonna get a real work out and he starts making me work extreamly hard on the machine when. I pretty much cant because he knows I workout with the wrestling team every other night. It was the stupid stuff ever I wanted to hit the kid but being the good person I am I didn't. The kid thinks hes better than me and thinks hes cool several kids always talk down to me and stuff like that but I shrugg it off most of the time because there just annoyances.
also the media dose suck such as a kid got strangled in his home from my school a block down another person god killed and another block down someone got killed. They only said a kid from my school died and then cut off.

That is stupid. I hate when people annoy you in a way where they think they're higher than you. That P.E teacher sucks. I looooove this teacher, he's a substitute (if that's what y'all Americans say) teacher and when we have him for P.E he lets us do anything. So great. I don't enjoy P.E, only tennis and I don't mind badminton... but... umm, other stuff.. I don't like. I don't mind netball or basketball, but I don't like it.
This French teacher made all these asian people sit next to each other in our exams, and one of them (she makes me laugh so much, sometimes) goes, "Yeaah, that's right. But all the pakistanis' together" and the teacher got SO STRESSED thinking that it was someone else making a racist comment about them. Then she said it was her and the teacher held her head in shame and moved two of them, ha ha.
I know someone who hammered a guy's head in (in daytime, some place sort of public) almost killing the guy - they're both teens. It wasn't even on the news. There was also a brick fight on this road, where loads of kids cross to go to school, that same week. A guy got a bad wound, but I wasn't there, my mate was. I remember I looked to see if it would be on there but they just said something about this woman (who actually drove on the street next to mine) got car-jacked and knocked unconscious. The guy who got a hammer and smashed the guy's head wasn't ever charged. Well, he's not in jail. I dunno if the guy died or not, last time I heard of him, he was conscious.

Maybe it has something to do with the fact that most white people don't spend all their time in gangs instead of school? Or the fact that if poor people actually become successful and break free of poverty, they can't sit around, do nothing, and leech off the tax money that the horrible white middle class has to shell out to keep their lazy asses work-free.

Okaaay, where to start??
First of all, by minorities we don't neccesarily mean hispanic/black americans. Legal immigrants from places like India, Asia, Middle east, Africa are minorities and we do not we see much of them in gangs now do we? (and even the middle class teenager would do the same thing if faced with thier level of poverty)
I wouldn't expect you to know this, but it is VERY difficult for these legal immigrants to settle down in the US (me being one of them), We moved from australia to the US and the truth is you can't get these "middle-class jobs" like doctors, lawyers, engineers, dentists unless ...
1) you've had work experience before in the US.
2) you went to college in the US.
that's why you find most of these brilliant assets to US, working jobs like secretaries, laborers, transporters and so on instead of what they're capable of.
As for your thing on "leeching off tax money", this is how it works in your country, (well not exactly but highly similar as I forget the real percentages)
first 12000 earned = 20% taxed
next 10000 earned = 15% taxed
next 10000 earned = 10% taxed
and the pattern goes on; I'll explain it, if someone earns just 12000 then 20% of his money is given to the government as tax. that's 2400.
If someone earns 32000, the first 12000 is taxed for 20% then the next 10000 is taxed for 15% and the last is taxed for 10% that's 2400 + 1500 + 1000 = 4900.
now 4900 is obviously more than 2400 but 4900 is a mere 15.31% of 32000, while 2400 is a 20% portion of 12000.
The low income earner pays a higher percentage of his tax to the government, therefore 2400 means more to him what 4900 means to that "middle-class" worker.
Don't get too worked up, it may seem to you the white middle class is getting unfairly berated, no one is berating anyone. fascion just shared her opinion and I agree with it.

You know what really annoys me, when kids are secluded from groups and cliques in hs. It really pisses me off! I was talking more about welfare and the fact that it is payed for with tax money.
Also, of course you can't become things like a lawyer, doctor or engineer without college experience. Would you want some random uneducated guy operating on you, fighting for your case in court or building you a car? I sure wouldn't. Now, if they have gone to college in their own country and learned to do these things, they ought to be able to get a doing them in America as well. If not, they can do it in their homeland, no one is forcing them to come to America. The reason they come here, in most cases, is because their chances for success are higher here than in their own country. Which means that regardless of how hard things are here, it's still better than where they came from.

I'm homeschooled and have only one or two close friends (mainly because my family moves every other year). I think people put way to much value in the "popularity" factor at highschools. What does it really matter if you aren't in the "in" crowd? Would you want a bunch of superficial friends anyway? Who cares about what people think of you? All the highschool drama goes away if you cease to put value in it.

Well these people are comfortable at thier home countries, a majority of them simply come over here because colleges in the US are like the best in the world; (I mean of the top 20, only 3 were not US schools. Tokyo U, Cambridge U, and Oxford U. the last two are in england) and they do want the best for thier children You could argue that only the kids should come over here, but face it, with the image the world has of the US, no parent is gonna send thier children here alone.
These people are very capable of doing the jobs I mentioned, but for some reason Corporate America just doesn't feel so. I mean an engineer from India could do anything that one in the US could, how do I know? Well not to contradict myself by saying this but I think the US doesn't produce very good engineers (my reasons for saying this are too long to type out, bare with me :p), however a few do stand out as being extraordinary.
As for cliques in highschool, I was rather popular at my highschool, but I didn't put anyone down. People made fun of one my friends for being a nerd (just casual teasing nothing over the top. He was into anime, games and stuff) but I was into the same things he was into and although I was told that I'm not really any different from him people still couldn't talk that crap to me. Anyway I didn't have highschool in America and cliques weren't really big at my school, we had different priorities)

(she was married to my dad at 19 and had her first kid at 21... go figure) she was studying to be a nurse.. and now she's the 3rd highest person at her job.. she works at this company that takes care of the property that you buy.. like you buy the house.. and the land that goes with it is taken care of by her company... as in what your getting and how much you have to pay for it... and blah blah.. so .. yeah... lol.. the people at her job really like her.. mainly because she works a lot! and yet we live in a 2 bedroom apartment.. to which we turned the dining room into another bedroom so my brother has a place to sleep.. we don't get any tax help... cuz we're white... and not a minority in this countries eyes.. yet we're still treated like we are...
simply because you didn't get a degree and an education in America, they automatically assume you had a lesser of an education.. even though in Bulgaria we learn the math that is being learned now in an 11th grade class room, in 5th grade... so i don't know how to interpret that.... hope this helps in the discussion happening now... some juice for us all to go on...

Can we talk about reverse discrimination?
..... especially dealing with asians....
i got something...
Reverse Discrimination?
I personally don't believe there is ANY reverse discrimination because discrimination is the act of putting each person into a certain grouping.
akin_t
12-04-2005, 04:28 AM
Yeah, Fect is absolutely right. Discrimination is discrimination everywhere; however, here in the US most discrimination is on minorities groups; nonetheless, sometimes non-minorities get discriminated against, and that, I believe, is what Imegera is talking about.
The majority of discrimination is done by the majority. However, in several areas, there are minority majorities. This means that the minority makes up the bulk of the population of a state, but not necessarily of a country.
In this way, there is little discrimination towards the majority, as many believe there to be done is very little- and most feel hopeless and fall into the preset lines between groups.

i think reverse discrimination is like... a group of people that have been discriminated against and want equality and they get it.. and then they discriminate toward a group... kinda like a lot of urban black people... they hate white people.. because their white... (being called a cracka... is not something exciting.... my friend dealt with it a lot... NOT COOL!)
and yes.. i'm find... when i posted that other comment i had just finished shopping for christmas and i bought a sweater for each my dad and my bro... and since i'm not a guy.. i dunno if they like them.. but their European so they should... i mean... their fashionable.. wat Americans like to call "metro sexual" .... i dunno... weird!!!
akin_t
12-05-2005, 06:29 PM
Ha ha, I still crack up at the word metrosexual, when I first heard it I was like: "Damn, how many orientations do these americans have?"
Anyway, yeah reverse discrimination can be thought of that way; nonetheless it is still discrimination. I am black, I don't hate white people, because in all honesty I haven't experienced any racism for the most part of my life, I probably would have if I had always lived in America but thank goodness I didn't.
Reverse discrimination, is a very touchy subject because you have to take into account that these minorities who take out thier anger on non-minorities only do so because they have had to deal with alot of crap from them. I remember when a guy I knew went to apply for a job at Walmart, he was stationed outside the parking lot; when he asked why he was there most of the time, the manager told him (although jokingly) that since he was already very dark, the sun couldn't make him any darker and other employees didn't want that. After being told that, it's kind of hard not to feel a little prejudiced towards that manager and hence, white people.
I'm not racist in any way, I don't think I even have it in me to hate someone over something as trivial as thier skin color or the way the pronounce certain words, it just doesn't make sense.

My mate's mother is very touchy about white people being racist. She wasn't racist herself, I don't think, she used to speak to my mother a lot (who's white) and spoke of people doing stuff 'cause she suspects they don't like black people and things like that.. My mum used to just nod and accept it but she thought it was a bit silly. My mate used to be like that also, kind of.. I helped her out of it by opening her mind to possibilities of the reasons they could be saying and acting the way they do, lol. But she used to be like, "That girl gave me a funny look and wouldn't tell me where my keys are.. I think she has a problem with black people" lol. Sorry to laugh.. but it is rather ridiculous, no offence.
A lot of people say racist and prejudice things by accident or because they just get into the habit of it or something. I know a girl who used to get really defensive (unnecessarily) and she called me a "coconut" (I LAUGHED so much when she did, I didn't get it at first, "[Me]... Coco.. -nut? [O_o].. Why am I a co-OHHHH HA HA HAHAHAHAHA" lol, didn't make her feel better..) and my friend "gone off milk". LOL. Her insults were so funny, but she really tried to be offensive.
I don't think you should take your anger out on other people if one person is being racist to you or something. It's stupid. You shouldn't judge a whole race on one or a few idiots. I've never really been insulted by a racist before. I've spoken to a racist (without knowing he was a racist, lol, that's how civil he was), but I've never been verbally abused in a serious manner.
THIS DRUNK MAN!! He came up to me and he was DRUNK (YES!! DRUNK!!) and he was speaking drunk-talk and I was with my mate and luckily me and her as a team laugh about anything, so we were feeling pretty all right.. anyways, he was talking to us and said "Why do you hate me?" and we said, "We don't know you" and he was saying how we hate him 'cause we're Irish and how he's not racist, he just headbutted a black guy in a club, HA HA.
He was saying how the English are racist to Irish people as well and we're not the only ones being picked on and I said, "Don't worry. I'm part Irish too" and there was silence and me and my mate wanted to laugh but he just moved on about how we hate him again, he had his arm in his jacket and we thought it was a knife or something but it was a beer and he was trying to tell us that he wasn't drunk and that he was just on his way to a bar to get drunk.
He was starting to get a bit aggressive so we walked off and he FOLLOWED US so we RAN, ha ha. It was so fun... but yeah, that was scary. 'Cause he seemed to be someone who thought all black people hated him 'cause he was white.. O_o
Well, yeah, that was one of my near-death experiences as he could have had a knife in his jacket.
I know a guy who got a worst comment than that at work.. he was going to work as a high ranked person in the job he was going to do - he had a flash suit and everything - and he got there and this guy asked if his taxi was ready, 'cause he's a part of a minority and not many women nor minorities get into that job easily. He was so sunk and the guy looking after him that day was embarrassed and had to explain to him that the guy isn't all that nice. How awful. He didn't even have anything to indicate that he was a taxi boy, lol.

Whoa, that's alot of instances you've given. To be honest, I don't even hate racists; I don't know any racists personally. I am sure it is a horrible thing though; you know not getting a job because you're black. It isn't going to change though, and that's a shame that we'll have to live like that here in the US and the rest of the world; I mean just because someone is black doesn't mean they're gonna beat you up if you step on thier white shoes. Honestly I don't understand where people get these ideas from, I remember during one of my classes, this kid accidently stepped on my white sneakers; not to feel good about myself or anything but it was so obvious that we was scared at that moment like I was gonna get all confrontational or something.
You have a very funny mate though, that's one of the sillest reasons I've heard someone ask if somebody has problem with black people

aren't drunk people just the funniest? if you ever get the chance to be around a racist-irish/american drunk... do so... the things that come out of their mouths are just so funny! my b/f's suite-mate(he dorms) is irish-american and he's very racist and he get's drunk a lot.. so all i can do is hear him because i talk to my b/f on the phone and it's just the funniest things! like one time he was like "all these black people... nigga!!!!! i hate black people... their so racist..... blah blah" ... such randomness!!!!
but yeah... your experiences were very interesting.. and i don't really know that many people that get discriminated at work except for the mentally challenged workers i used to work with... they were always put to like bag groceries, or clean the floors and collect the carts and stuff... i felt really bad... especially for this one guy his name was Jonathan, and he was like studying to be a lawyer at Harvard and one day some people were really jealous or so the story goes.. and they locked him up in the freezers... and when help came and found him he had a brain freeze and now he seems like he's got a mantal disability but he's a very smart person... he knew the capital of my country! no mentally challenged person knows the capital of Bulgaria.. not even an average person knows that!!!! it was so horrible seeing him working in a lesser job than myself... so i quite.... lol... and went to work at Target!!! lol.. but then quite again.. cuz i started college... yay! that's my story i guess... bye!

I don't know about England as a whole, but our school I can say have done that, I haven't heard of any other place doing so.
Obviously, I've not read the letter you were sent, but it sounds like the debate that's been raging in the English education system for ages, namely that certain ethnic groups tend to do better than others.
Asians (which tends to mean "Indian sub-continental" in the UK, but here meaning Asians in a wider sense) tend to get higher grades, but I'd say that it's because our families tend to push us more. The same report tends to highlight that Afro-Caribbean pupils, particularly the boys, don't tend to get as many high grades as a whole.
I think the head of the Commission for Racial Equality (who's also Black)put this down to the laddish culture of it not being "cool" to be smart, and they were looking at ways to address it, as girls in the UK tend to get on better in many areas of secondary education.
All this politically correct bullsh*t does really bother me; I've faced racism for a significant part of my life (my family's of Indian origin) and, though it's certainly quietened down in recent years, it's still there; but stopping young kids in school from saying certain nursery rhymes, like Baa Baa Black Sheep, because they're too "provocative" really tests my patience.
Those idiotic utter b*st*rds who carried out the attacks in London recently have made things more difficult for South Asian communities in particular. I used to fly up to see my ex in Scotland, and was, for a while, subjected to many more checks than other passengers. Fair enough - the bombers were Asian (as in the British definition) and male, so it was understandable why I was under suspicion, as I fit that profile.
Still, in the style of Cyrano de Bergerac, if someone comes up with a racist taunt for me, I've a veritable arsenal of verbal retorts to reduce them to a quivering wreck... in theory, at least. The problem with your average redneck is that the incessant inbreeding has hampered their ability to communicate :face82:
he knew the capital of my country! no mentally challenged person knows the capital of Bulgaria.. not even an average person knows that!!!! it was so horrible seeing him working in a lesser job than myself... so i quite.... lol... and went to work at Target!!! lol.. but then quite again.. cuz i started college... yay! that's my story i guess... bye!

AWW!! Poor Jonathan >< Putting him in a freezer!! WHY, I swear if I were a relative or mate of that Jonathan, you know the people who did that will NEVER enjoy life EVER again. I swear, I'd make their lives miserable for the rest of their days.. ^^ I'm lovely.
What gits!! That's pissed me off. Oooh, lemme at the people who did that!!
LOL, you have NO idea how sad I was when I found out that "Baa Baa Black Sheep" was banned =( I was so sad. STUPID PEOPLE. Whyyyyyyy they banned this stuff I dunno, it's now harmless if it were ever racist. And if anything shouldn't it go in favour for the black sheep 'cause everyone wants his wool =D
and the term "Blackboard" for a board.. which is black, ha ha. After laughing in class about it for roughly 10 minutes, I started to get stressed about it 'cause what the hell do you call it!?!? I SAY BAN THE TERM "WHITEBOARD"!!! IT'S PREJUDICE!! POWER TO THE RACES!! NO DISCRIMINATION WILL BE FOUND!! I'LL GET RID OF EVERYTHING THAT COULD BE RACIST!! ANYONE WHO SAYS "NIGGA", "WIGGA", "COCONUT", "GONE OFF MILK" WILL BE LOCKED AWAY IN PRISON!!! Gits. Lol. I hope they're happy. Ruining my days of freeing prancing about singing "Baa Baa Black Sheep". ¬¬
What about that thing that goes something like, "Eenie Meenie Minie Mo, catch a tiger by the toe..". Why isn't that banned? Or is it? If it isn't, IT SHOULD BE if they banned "Baa Baa Black Sheep" >< I'm on a banning spree!! >_< Let's get rid of many things in this world and many terms and many songs and many everything whilst making those people who hurt poor Jonathan in a freezer to buuuurn!!
I love smart people. Lol. I dunno why 'geeks' are so tortured by some people, we really need them! Without smart people, we'd all be stupid. Lol.
Yeah, I mean, I know that other ethnics are doing way better than others, but did they really need to give that to me? Shouldn't they CHECK my grades first at least. What if I were uber smart and they're acting as if I must be stupid? I just found that a bit silly of them to do.
But I don't miiiind, well, I do, but not much, other things irritate me more. As you may have noticed.

Ha, thats like the ten commandments being taken away from that court house. Understand that some people just need something to complain about. About that tree.....i mean....if u dont celebrate christmas...... how would it offend you? i mean if it offended jews, then why not protest to have a huge ass minorah or dredel in NYC.
*off topic*
I dunno, i guess people are just weak these days. I mean it never offended people before? no one ever put out an article about it before. It seems like lately (the past 2-3 years) people are just so on the edge and eager to jump on whatever they can to complain about. It used to be that when something went wrong, you fixed it, men fized there own cars, plumbing, etc. Women even fixed there own cars, plumbing, etc. Now a days people have other people do things for them, the those people hired to do jobs have other people do things for them.
People are becoming more and more dependent on things.
*back on topic*
I dont see how this big tree in NYC is discriminatiing against anyone, i mean, what does a tree have to offer to a Muslim, or Jew, or Buddist. A CHRISTMAS tree represents CHRISTMAS and is just a tradition, not a symbol of respect.

Yeah some people are more tolerant than others; nonetheless, about this christmas thing, if the muslims had a holiday that was really big that even non-muslims celebrated it, I doubt I and the rest of the world would be slightly pissed. just tell a story of when you were discriminated against.. or someone you know has been discriminated against.. i think that's what the whole point of this thread was.. but now it's kinda been... "let's spam! ok!!!" ... yeah..
I offer tid-bits of theories to why and try to explain the how.

Well, I've suffered from racial abuse at various times in my life.
I live in the east of England, and, when I was growing up, there weren't many immigrants around here then, or certainly not many of Indian origin. I think the abuse in those days stemmed from ignorance, which is where many forms of prejudice initially stem from.
Now, growing resentment is caused by what many here perceive as an "influx" of migrant workers from the newly expanded European Union, or "asylum seekers" from various parts of the world. Sometimes, the former come into the country disguised as the latter.
Because of this, certain elements in the media are trying to portray this as a wave of opportunistic cheats trying to come in and "take our jobs/ take our women" kind of crap.
Also, the recent terrorist atrocities in the world have meant that people from the Indian sub-continent or Middle East are viewed with a lot more suspicion.

Unfortunately, things aren't so simple. stereotypes are very influencial on everyone; I mean it isn't right to associate everyone of middle eastern descent with terrorism, but you see people get scared and try to look out for themselves so you can't really blame them, you know the saying .... one bad egg, spoils the lot; your case is a typical example purokku

Arabs are like the new black! It's funny, on open seat flights usually where i seat get's filled last, but now it's Arabs, or anyone that looks like an arab.
Like when we flew from London to Amsterdam for... anyway we were flyin there, my friend is Saudi, and i am African(mostly) and we were singin any song with a 'boom' in it out loud. 'bombs over baghdad' 'Boom! shake the room' 'Boom! it's on'
people were like staring at us wide eyed. I dunno why we found that so funny.
This all goes to the new "rule set of politics."
There are two forms of life in the soviergn's (who is not only the government but everyone around us) eye: valuable and invaluable life. It protects the valuable and will kill or dismiss the invaluable at any time. However, it does things in the name of the "population" so that it has power behind it.
After the "War on Terror" was announced, the world (minus China and a few other countries) all went to war with the United States (the soviergn). However, as the stereotype of "Terrorists=Arabs since they are 'jealous' of the West's power" came around and spread to other countries, Arabs became the "invaluable life" as they were all stereotyped for a handful of extremists.
The only way any person or ideal/government gains power is if you admit yourself to it and obey its whims.
