Im actually tired of everyone stereotyping all flamers and cussers. Just because people flame or cuss repeatedly DOES NOT mean they are stupid or have psychological problems or ANYTHING.
I know a kid who got a 34/36 on ACTs, one of the hardest tests to take in high school and gets straight As and is going to one of the best universities in the uSa and he swears constantly and flames YET from what people say, "Anyone who flames or cusses repeatedly basically proves them to be an idiot considering they cant think of more Intelligent words to say" Or "They are just stupid, swearing or flaming proves your stupid" or anything in that matter.
Its intelligent people like (Aint gonna say names for reasons people will constantly ruin the debate)that piss me off. You constantly talk intelligent like you think your the most intelligent person in this damn forum and that you know what your talking about all the time, when in actuallity, you havent a clue and your just breezing thru by luck and popularity amongst others. When you make prejudice-like comments to other people because they are doing something you consider "inappropriate" or "unnecessary" and then talk about how UNintelligent they are, it gets sad, You simply degraded your own intellect with out knowing or anyone else knowing. Just because someone Does something stupid doesnt mean they are stupid. Im sure theres some people in this forum that are EXTREMELY intelligent but dont show it because they dont feel the need to but to other people they dont think anything of it.
What im getting at is the fact people are so prejudice and very stereotypical.
NOW LETS HEAR YOUR LOVERLY OPINIONS!

You can be the smartest man in the world and still be a loathed ass. True streotypes are the devil, but I've een it with my own eyes. People called flamers are uasually so because people have seen them do it. So it's not a matter of streotype but the fact hat we see them do it right in front of us. When I say they can't think of anything it's not because they're not smart just that they can't admit that they are wrong or are just plain opinioted. I don't see how people calling others flamers when they have been seen in action is not prejudice at all. Sure I cuss, but I don't go around being an ass to others just for the sake of it. Those who think that they are the opinion are just causiing extra noise that gives others headaches.

I'm not what most college scholars would call "smart". On avaerage, I speak like a normal person would(I cuss ALOT!!), not to mention, I'm 6ft1in tall and weigh in at around 210, so I look like the "athletic" type. I'm popular-ish, and I smoke. But look at some of my posts here and tell me that they don't make you think a little about the topic, (I guarantee you will find at least 1) not very typical of someone with ADD huh? but what most people would never guess is the fact (yeah, it's a fact, I was tested by a psychologist) that my IQ scores in the 90th percentile. However, When someone runs around Declaring another anime is "gay" they've gotta know that they are gonna tick someone off severely. and once they start, some don't stop, ON PURPOSE! It's almost like they want trouble, what I'm trying to say is, it's ok to say you dislike something or disagree with someone, but it's better , in my opinion, to try to keep things friendly, otherwise you end up with lots of people mad at you and vise-versa. I'm not saying don't defend yourself or your beliefs, but try to save the anger thing for a real butthole.

Hmm... ... ... ... For my opinion on IQ tests, I don't think they're 100% accurate. I mean, yeah sure they might prove that you know alot about certain subjects but in the end they don't prove that you aren't a quick learner, or just wise in particular. You're right Sunfire but there's more to it - I got this off of wikipedia. Great description of flamers/flames. Basic translation - being an ass for the sake of being an ass. Intelligence has nothing to do with it.
Flaming is the act of posting messages that are deliberately hostile and insulting, usually in the social context of a discussion board (usually on the Internet). Such messages are called flames, and are sometimes posted in response to flamebait. Flaming is one of a class of economic problems known as The Tragedy of the Commons, when a group holds a resource (in this case, communal attention), but each of the individual members has an incentive to overuse it.
Although the trading of insults is as old as time itself, flaming on the Internet, like many other online 'actions', started in the Usenet hierarchies. A flame may have elements of a normal message, but is distinguished by its intent. A flame is typically not intended to be constructive, to further clarify a discussion, or to persuade other people. The motive for flaming is often not dialectic, but rather social or psychological. Sometimes, flamers are attempting to assert their authority, or establish a position of superiority. Occasionally, flamers wish to upset and offend other members of the forum, in which case they are trolls. Most often however, flames are angry or insulting messages transmitted by people who have strong feelings about a subject. Finally, some consider flaming to be a great way to let off steam, though the receiving party may be less than pleased.
Similarly, a normal, non-flame message may have elements of a flame – it may be hostile, for example – but it is not a flame if it is seriously intended to advance the discussion.

Nice detailed explanation... I guess after reading this I can point out a flamer from a non-flamer easily... Thanks dark_kitsune! Oh and regarding the IQ tests I don't think their accurate either... I mean my siblings tried an IQ test and the youngest one turned out to have the highest IQ number!

...I don't follow. First off, flaming and cussing are not exactly seen as a mature action to take for a reason. What do they do? Annoy and enrage others while accomplishing nothing. It is true that a person can be smart and take these actions, but it is also true that these people are not necessarily mature. Maturity and intelligence are two different things. A person can indeed pass tests, as you put it, but have the mental maturity of a five-year-old. Then you have to consider what exactly "flaming" is. You often see flaming when a person just totally disregards another person's opinion and proceeds to just bash them. Does this sound like a mature action to take? I would hope the answer would be no.
I agree that there shouldn't be a need for prejudice; though in actuality... I do not recollect seeing such occurences. Perhaps I'm just not active enough. There is nothing wrong with having a little fun, or discussing stupid things from time to time, but when you flame someone or "cuss" at them, you usually are attacking them. Those are not desirable things to have on a forum. I don't believe it is through "prejudice" that people would go after you, but rather, through regulation. I am aware that people have various methods of communicating, and quite frankly; I don't typically judge a person by how they communicate. Rather, I judge a person by what I understand about the person from what they communicate about.

Well said, Apocalypse. Intelligence and maturity are two separate things and dont necessarily count for anything. Knew a guy who was the smartest in my grade but was the most obnoxious, immature, vain stuck up guy you could ever meet. (XD He even beat the girls when it came to bring vain  )
People are full of opinions. You either agree with them or totally oppose it but it's what they think, not what you think. You can argue all you like but give the person respect for what they've said about the topic.

This was about judging someone intelligence wise, not maturity. Maturity has NOTHING to do with Intelligence. If you see someone acting like a 5 year old, and you go about to even talk about it or mention about how immature they are, your no different. IF you were mature, you would go about leaving them alone.
My entire point of this topic was people judging flames are dumb or stupid or not intelligent, not whether they were mature or not, thats pretty ****ing obvious lol.

I flame somethimes..... but I consider that it aint worth it to go through all that trouble....
I was at a friends house.... he was on the computer on forum..... all red..... swearing..... someone ticked him off.... he completly lost it....
Flamers want you to react to their posts..... if u dont react or respond in a intellingent manner u neutralize them..... and they will look like idiots!!!
Oh and about the IQ test..... an IQ cannot tell how smart are you.... an IQ test shows your mental capability!!!
U can be stupid and have a high IQ!!!

There is nothing wrong about cussing or flaming. The problem is the people who react to it. For instance some one just said "bleach is the greatest peace is $hit on this earth! Why do you watch that are you retarted or something" or just plain "that shows gay" if you don't pay mind to it and if you don't start acting like a little kid saying"nu uh! bleach is the greatest" or " Ishigo can kick anyones ass" then you wouldn't really have that problem would you. So it's more of a personal issiue, if you doesn't like it let it be. You can only keep a flame alive if you feed it wood or gasoline(or any other flamable product). About the cusing, get over it, thats called vocabulary, dont like it don't pay attencion you don't have to use it, so deal with that. :redbiggri

I see. My misconception then.
However, my point was this. While maturity and intelligence are indeed two different things; people do often intermix the two. People assume that if you are an immature person, you are a stupid person. The case works in reverse as well. So in essence; since the person acts immature, others will see this and automatically tie the word "stupid" to that person. In that respect, I now follow you. It is true. However, is it not also true that some flamers (though not necessarily cussers) go out of their way to seem less intelligent? Through use of "1337" and other internet lingos, "flamers" often harass others while using incorrect vocabulary... which may be seen as "unintelligent". Furthermore, a flamer typically avoids "logical" (often considered intelligent) reasoning, and just proceeds to attack or harass a certain person (usually) without really giving reasoning behind it (which can also be seen as unintelligent). It is not exactly a true stereotype of the person, because you must consider that the flamer is actually providing itself the IMAGE of an unintelligent person. It is true that a smart person hiding under the "cloak" of a stupid person will indeed look stupid. Considering this then, is it really the fault of those who see the flamer for what belief they gain about the flamer? If a flamer makes themself appear stupid, then others will assume that they truely are stupid. People don't really go in-depth to obtain a first-impression. They see someone, see how the person acts, and then they have an impression of that person. If you happen to be flaming someone, that is likely the impression you will leave. I am certain that there are exceptions to this, but this is probably the general case. Of course, these are just my thoughts on the issue. :eek13:

In my opinion, it's only offensive if you choose to be offended by it. People really shouldn't be offended by half the things they are nowadays. You can't even make a crude joke in the presence of a woman without being charged with sexual harassment anymore. So much for freedom of speech. There are times when you should choose to be offended, like when someone threatens your family or even worse, calls you a pansy. In situations like that you don't just want to let the comment slide, but the vast majority "offensive" comments can just be ignored if you don't like them.
