I hope to break some balls with this lol, because it's 2008 and I'm feelin very very very ebil. Making this contest was a very nice learning experience, and I hope that by doing it you'll also gain some knowledge. And yes, I love maps.

The Espada and Vaizards have gotten so good with contests recently that anything that normal people considers possible would result in submissions hours after the contest is released, hence resulting in a race.

A somewhat fair solution would be to make the contests harder, which in a sense puts everyone on a more equal playing field, allowing hard work to be displayed in the results rather than just knowledge.

Best contest imo. It really gets you thinking, and you have to get awareness of what you're looking at; international buildings/roadways taht everyone recognizes, reflection of water, time of day even if you wanted to get technical.

Go with the city that takes up the most space in the map. I don't think there are any ambiguities.

@Kohaku: In reference to your 'contests arnt meant to be fun' idea.. you are completely wrong. If we didnt find the competition fun.. Why would we waste our time?Its not really about this contest in particular but the attitude you displayed in that post was completely negative.

Actually I can say that ive had fun in alot of the contests thus far.. They arnt on the other hand meant to be made just to feel like a job (as you phrased it).. I REALLY hope that you dont think in that frame of mind or I can see them going down hill really quickly.

They'll probably figure that this group will complain about it this way while those groups complain about it that way. I understand that they had to make it harder to level the field a little to give everyone a chance, in that stance making the contest feel a little like work.

Just because Kohaku took a indifferent point of view doesn't mean that he really feels that way. He might just want us all to stop gripping for once and just have fun with it.
I like harder contests. It gives everyone a fighting chance. As a VC... I see the contests as work since I have to help rally the division together to crack it and work on it myself as well. So I try to find the fun in them other than seeing what others think of them.

I'm only giving my thoughts about it though so don't take me wrong.

I find it strange that you would immediately react so defensively to an honest remark. I'm not assuming you are incapable of winning this contest - in fact, with your track record I assume quite the opposite - but still, your defensiveness is slightly suspicious.

I'll say this again because you now have confused me with the Espada as a whole and I dont really want any misinterpretations..

Its easy to race in and make yourself feel better by finding a small shred of insignificant evidence that points to an 'Espada' feeling that the contest is 'hard' (notice I never mentioned that) when infact I am but a person with an opinion, not in any way representing the group as a whole.. Not once did I infact mention that 'we' were finding it boring..

But it is easy for anyone to generalise I understand, but I hope I make myself clear enough now. The main reason that I am so 'defensive' is that misunderstandings have been made in the past in the representation of the Espada as a whole and I would not want that to be repeated.

Contests are not meant to be fun for everybody.

The only way for everybody to be pleased is if everybody buys into the system. Nobody ever said that contests are supposed to be boring and like a job, but some contests will ultimately seem that way to some people because of the difference in preferences. However, just because a contest ends up being boring or hard shouldn't keep people from trying to win... at least that's the ideal.

When individuals complain about contests, or give up without trying, it's showing that they don't care about the system, which is sad. Of course, everyone is entitled to their own choices, but there are always consequences in one form or another - in this case it's me giving a rant.

Over my life experiences, when you're playing with or against friends, and competing to win, if for nothing more than bragging rights, it's a hell of a lot of fun. The medium of competition may be boring as hell, but the competition itself was fun. That's what I'd like to see these contests as, and that's why I like seeing high participation rates. It's also why we're trying to get contests out at a more consistent basis, so that if you're bad at one contest, you can make it up with the next.
