Someone had to do it sometime, I'm just getting it out of the way.

Okay, here's the deal:

We've had a boob thread, a body thread, several gender threads, an *attempt* at 'who would you f*** with", and a few others. And with some discussion in IRC this only seemed the next natural thing to bring this up.

And now the topic: What's your sexual orientation (preference)?

(you are...)
a straight guy/girl

bi (maybe with a preference?)

a gay/lesbian

etc...

Not really sure if this gets locked, hopefully not, but oh well... For reasons that some people already know, I'm going to wait to see if this thread actually works before giving my answer, but no worries! If the thread is still open in a couple hours I'll be back! :biggrinlo

~Skittles~

(Finally starting a thread of my own, heh.)

Well I'm a heterosexual male, I'm also celibate. Although I don't see anything wrong with homosexuality I just don't think I'd be comfortable doing sexual acts with another man. Sometimes people think I'm bi-sexual though, I have no idea why.

My last comment was not disrespectful in the least bit. Really, take the stick out of your ass. The only thing that might be even slightly inappropriate in my answer to the guy's question would be that I used the word "hawt". Sure, I could have used "pretty" or "beautiful", but the meaning is the same. I didn't even imply that everyone thinks women are hot or that people who don't are odd in some way. I said, "At least to me." Next time I will remember to say women are revolting since you seem to have a problem with me thinking otherwise.

It could be because straight males are most vocal about their sexuality on a regular basis. Many reasons for that, one of which is because there's so many straight guys, and gays don't want to look like they don't fit in (a lot of societies look down on non-conformists). On the other hand, hormones allow lesbianism to be acceptable mostly because most straight men like seeing girls naked no matter what they're doing, plus having the chance of being with more than one girl at once.

That's the very short of my take on it.

*sees she's still unique* Ah well... :rolleye09

I guess that's true. But still, I hear lots of story's of gays being hurt just because they're gay. And I can't really recall anything about hurting lesbians. So is that the only reason? (hormones) or is there more?

Yep, there's tons more! Lots of ways you can explain it. I'd take up at least a page if I really wanted to write on that topic, but I don't wanna side-track the thread too much.

Gays get beat up more than lesbians simply because guys practically run everything. Why would a guy hurt a lesbian if she's not a threat to him in some way? A gay, however, is threatening or sickening to some people because its like "this guy has sex with other men... he probably wants me too". With lesbians it's like, "okay, she won't have sex with me... maybe she'll let me watch though...". Add to that that men are usually more quick to violence than women, and you have more reasons why gays have it worse.

There's really a massive amount of information to take in on this. From the typical characteristics and dispositions of the genders (some may say stereotypes), behavior of the society the person lives in (some are less accepting than others), the time in which the person lives in, as well as everyones personalities and beliefs at the time.

The teachers at my old school made me do a report on this when they heard about my, umm, lifestyle... It was kinda interesting to look into.

Anyway, more people come out! It's great fun! hehe :biggrinlo

I may get flamed for this, but I just have to let it out...

I'm a guy and I find gay men repulsive, I fail to understand how a man can be attracted to another. I just can't believe the way everyone even tolerates them.

As for girls being gay, I know it is wrong and I think it should stop, but for some reason, I really don't even care about gay females, it kinda seems more natural than gay men.

I'm straight under normal conditions. But if I were really desperate for some affection, like in I was prison or trapped on an desert island with no one but other girls, I don't think I'd have that big of a problem with switching teams.

I'm assuming, that if she were left in prison or on an island for a numerous amount of days with a bunch of girls, her sexual pleasures would go unfilled by any males. So, she'd go for the other team, and get it done that way.

But, that's just a guess.

As for me, I would do fine if I were placed on an island with a bunch of males. Meaning, I would have no sexual desire at all, therefore, I would not have to get it filled.

Hehe, guess that's another difference between guys and girls... I usually don't get a bad response if I compliment others (even in the shower). Seems most girls don't care as long as the other person doesn't actually try anything.

@cloudnine
I'm sure you'd do -something- eventually... just not with the guys, hehe. If I were stuck on an island alone, I know I would at some point. Being surrounded by unattractive people doesn't mean you stop thinking about what would be attractive. :biggrinlo

No. I don't hate anyone, it's just I don't know where the attraction comes from that's all. I've seen gay people at school and I don't hate them, I just don't understand them. I hope I haven't offended anyone, I didn't mean to.

Well, think of it this way, they most likely can't understand why you don't like other boys. Your just wired differently, whether it's because of a hormore imbalance or genetics, that's just the way they feel and they can control it just as well as you can control your sexuality.

Tracking back a few pages to Darren's comment about homosexual males picking out straight males.

Generally it would be seen as a compliment, although I could quite imagine that some, might not take it that way. A gay friend of mine, is attracted to me, and he made this known to me (I knew before hand that he was gay) and at the time I was slightly baffled by it, as some might be, by having a guy inform them that they are "hot". o.O

After a minute or so my senses kicked back in after the initial shock that he found me attractive knowing my preferrence, and I was happy as larry, carried on chatting, sipping our drinks and doing our thing.

I found it to be a big compliment. Some might see that as odd, but if you think about, a guy thinking you're good looking is more of acompliment than a female thinking the same.

Go figure the logic in that one. o.O

as for seeming hateful and prejudicial, no one here seems to be doing that, but on that note, i like to ask that everyone in here take care in the manner they write, because what ive read (all of it) could also be intrepretted as being slightly hateful. im not pointing fingers, and im not going to start trippin on what was already said, im just asking for a lil caution here, cool? :)

Ha. I've had girls come onto me. Gosh knows whyyyy...
On the computer, when they do, it's mainly 'cause they think I'm a guy. Maybe it's the way I type or something, I don't think I seem all that manly =( I don't even tell them I'm a guy. O_o

I guess I should change my avatar to a picture of a flower or something, then. =P Something girly! Something cute! Something girls typically like.. like puppies...

I couldn't see myself with a girl, but I wouldn't mind. =D As long as I'm in luuuurrrvvvee and they luuuuurrrvveee me toooooo. AWWWWWW. We'd be together forever and ever and ever and ever =D Lol. HA, eww, I feel girly. I hate that feeling. Gets me all weird (in a hyper sense - and you don't want to see me when I'm hyper.. so annoying).

It's very common for guys to hide feelings if they were attracted to another guy. I wonder why, maybe it's something to do with the status of men which has been present for years, perhaps.
And I think it'd be uncomfortable for a lot of people if they were being hit on by someone they don't want to attract. Ha ha.

Um, let's see.

1) I'm male.
2) I'm straight, but unlike other guys. Y'see, I have what I like to call "an utter lack of a sex drive". Seriously. I have no interest in procreation.

And I wonder what makes people so enthralled by it anyways. I can take a piece of wood and jam it into a hole in the ground. There. I just did the same thing you did, only I'm not going to get diseases out of it.

That being said, I seem to have girls attracted to me (and then they leave just as soon, 4 girls in 3 years, what a shame :D). Maybe it's because I look at them as more than the receptacle for my reproductive unit.

well i htink its mainly to do with genes in guys, if you think about back in yee olde caveman days, and it still happens in the animal kingdom, the dominant male gets his way with the women, these days its a lot more civilised but for most guys those feelings are still there. looking at another guy doing stuff like that just sets them off, women dont bother because its not really a main part in their genetic makeup if you get where im going >.<

The bible was written by a) man, not god so it has no actual meaning b) written in a time when they beat women with a stick for looking awkwardly and generaly beat everyone and everything who didn't do just what their little book tells them to do.

Anyway, this doesn't apply to you specific but is more of a general thing: i'm not a christian so i actually don't give a damn. But if you are a christian then your faith tells you not to judge, god will to that little thingy for you.

I can understand people for "not liking" gay people, it's human nature to distrust people that differ from themselves. the letter I dislikes the letter J for being too curvy, the letter J dislikes the letter L for having a weird angle and they all gang up on the letter O for being fat etc.
But you need all the letters to form actual words and centenses.
A bit of a weird analogy but i'm just trying to say it takes all sorts, you don't have to like each other, but you can try to get along :) it'll make you feel better in the end.

Well, at least people like you, who are not actually for homosexuality, can still respect them.. if you know what I mean.

I knew a guy who hated... everyone. He was the most disgusting, disgraceful, horrible, violent, annoying, nasty person I've ever known.
He's a black Muslim and hates anyone with a different religion to him or anyone with a different race or belief to him (basically). He doesn't so much mind talking to certain races or religious people.

Jews, he hates. Any Jew that'd speak to him with him knowing they're Jew he'd beat the crap out of and he is very, very, very much against homosexuality.
He said he'd smash a gay person's head on the side of a pavement if they as much as looked at him, he'd beat them up and if any mate of his said they were gay, he'd beat the crap out of them too. What a bad person. How disgustinhg!

Gosh and his mates are almost as bad as him too, I feel so sick when he was chatting to me. I just could not even argue with him in the end, he made me feel that disgusted.

I know a few violent people like that, don't ask how I know them.. I don't hang out with people like that or anything. Though, it's sad 'cause one of my old childhood mates turned out to be bad.
He also hates homosexuals now (though he had no problem before, I think he was just influenced by the bad crowd he involved himself with) and almost killed someone last time I heard about him. =( He could have been such a lovely person.

Though, I remember hearing about a person who claimed to have found the 'gay gene' and it caused LOADS of protesters (obviously) and his life was being threatened, so I don't think he told people what it was.

I could see the same thing on the other side of the issue. Hypothetically what if there was a guy that claimed he used to be a homosexual but changed his ways. Would anyone believe him? The gay community would probably declare fraud.

I'm a straight male, and I don't really understand what it is many (possibly even most?) straight guys have against gay males. It makes little sense to me, who really cares what two consenting adults get up to? In fact if you're a straight guy you should probably be of the opinion that homosexuality should be encouraged since it removes competition and pathetic guys like me need all the competition to be weeded out to stand a chance. :rolleye09 (A few people seem to be hypersensitive in this thread so I'll apologise if anyone found that offensive, but at least it amused me and thus served it's purpose as a joke)

There also seems to be this wierd sense that everytime you meet a gay guy he's going to be attracted to you, which is just bizarre frankly, every time you meet a woman you don't assume she thinks you're brilliant looking, so why should every gay man you meet? Even if they are attracted to you, why should it make you feel uncomfortable, it's identical in every way to when a member of the opposite sex approaches you, only they're well... not of the opposite sex I suppose. ;) If you asked out a lesbian woman would you expect her to gasp and then look at you like a freak before running away, looking over her shoulder? Civility isn't difficult.

I recently finished school here in Scotland, which I've always thought of as a fairly tolerant nation and I have to say that people with orientations other than straight will continue to be discriminated against (From overt discrimination to stuff like using the word "gay" to demean something/someone that/who is not in fact gay) until people are actually properly educated about stuff as to be frank, sexual education is a joke in schools. The fact that religous services are an enforced part of the curriculum and that some of the Reverends we had around were shockingly illiberal didn't really help either.

Nice post. ^^ I think a lot of guys do find it degrading to be called "gay even if they are gay themselves. It's the fear of gays that a lot of people have trouble dealing with. Many people from my school perceiv gays as a dangerous walking AIDS carrying timebomb. That is just so aggnorant of them to think of people like that. It angers me since I had a brother who died of AIDS and frankly, these people are degrading the victims and their own intelligence, if they have any. I remember yesturday when I was in class, I heard the janitor said something about a guy with HIV spreading his bacteria around...no wonder he is a janitor. I might be going a little offtopice here...but a lot of people are prejudice against them in fear that they will catch their "gay" disease or get HIV and eventually AIDS.

I don't really like the idea of "labels." It puts a strain on many people. I feel that people don't have control over wheater they're gay or not, but it doesn't matter. Love is love, people who feel that two men, or two women, who love each other, shouldn't be together because of their gender is ignortant. I mean, we also can't control our opinions either, so even if you think it's wrong, you shouldn't press it down on people. If you do think it's wrong, then hopefully you won't be a close minded red-neck, and will listen to what people have to say.

I'm comfortable enough with myself to say this, I'm attracted to guys and I'm only 15. I couldn't really care if people think it's wrong or not, but I'm not going to stand around and listen to people ***** and flam people for it. It's OK to express your opinions, but not in a manner were you're hurting the other person.

The above post is a nice example that wisdom isn't related to age i might say.

However i disagree on one point, i don't think labels are a bad thing. In fact people need em. Giving things a label makes the world an understandable place. By giving something a label (be it gay or straight, black or white, european or asain, etc.) people relate to one another or see things in a perspective. Labeling things isn't always a question of what something is but on how to define yourself. "If you are that, than i must be this".

i think its human to give labels to people, its what you do and how you act around these people that defines you. I mean when i see a white preson i htink they are white, because they are, if they have been in a tanning salon i think tanned person, but i treat them in the same way.

anywho, back to the actual topic about if you are straight or gay :p

heh, no worries, im keeping watch, and my ultimatum still stands.

"spam or flame and be banned no questions asked."

Labels: yes humans do this naturally, and its only a bad thing when people use them to denote things in less than favorable ways. a friend of mine is black. <<thats a label. what connotation do i put on it? "a freind of mine happens to be a black guy." of course, labels arent always used so politely.

Hey Darren I know this is off topic but what is the policy of bans here at CB? if someone gets banned are they permanently banned? because I haven't seen dragonlink here in a while.

As for labels, with all due respect it would be very hard to communicate effectively without them, I mean do you know how many adjectives you'll have to use instead of using the word hobo/bum?

Instead of going: I almost got robbed by a hobo/bum
You'll sound like: I almost got robbed by this homeless person, who was looking very scruffy and seemed to be jobless, he didn't seem to have had anything to eat for a while.

I'm not discrimintaing against these sort of people but I'm just saying that the label makes it easier to describe people like that.

Hey Darren I know this is off topic but what is the policy of bans here at CB? if someone gets banned are they permanently banned? because I haven't seen dragonlink here in a while.

off topic:
bans can be as short as a day, and as long as forever. if you create another name, obviously you can come back, but if you continue to act the way you did, you'll only be shut down again. no recommended to be banned, ya know? :winking56

on topic:
i have gay friends, and they understand that im not gay. they dont make any moves on me and while i would probably be a lil stand off-ish if it happened, i would take into account that their actions are normal for them, and so i wouldnt hold it against them.

I think that labels in many way can be inherently negative. Tribalism is part of human nature, and it's the cause of the majority of the travesties caused by humanity throughout history. It seems a natural disposition of the human mind to attempt to categorize people into a primitive "them and us" system. Nationalism, sectarianism, racism, homophobia. All are caused by people saying "they're different, so they must be lesser". Even seemingly innocent things like rival sports teams can spiral out of control, the hatred between Rangers and Celtic fans in the city of Glasgow, with the teams associated with "sides" in the Northern Irish struggle (Celtic bear associations with Catholicism, Rangers with Protestantism).

I think that it's inescapable, when someone walks down the street, I don't think they can help but categorize people, if you removed all but the very slightest cosmetic differences and made everyone green and forced them to follow the same religion, people would still find some way of differentiating themselves from others, and friction would result.

EDIT: Apologies for this being kinda off-topic, but the last few posts were discussing it, and hey, the subject of a topic can evolve can't it?

:biggrinlo

Yeah, when I studied biology at university, we touched breifly on the "Gay" gene. It's a recessive trait carried on the XY chromosomes, so females carry the gene more often then exhibiting the trait, but it's much more common in males, as the Y chromosome doesn't contain enough genetic information to counter the X gene.

As a side note, my CHOICE is bisexual. I'm female, but I'm one of the guys. I've been told I'm attractive and I'm currently in a relationship with a guy. I prefer males, I just find them more attractive. But when females can be so beautiful, why limit yourself to just looking?
