Well let's see, the first book I remember reading was The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe. My mother had the entire set in hard-back and I took them with me on trips.

hamlet..

When did you first start reading on your own? When you were in high school?

I think the first actual book I read on my own (not counting the little five pagers about the cat and the dog and the ball) was a Hardy Boys book my dad made me read. To this day I don't know why he made me, but he was very intent on me reading that book.

The Little Train that could..

Epic book in my opinion should be made into a movie.

Good times. I loved how they had turnip soup for the rest of the year.

Dunno what it was called, but it was only a few pages long so i can remember it word for word. It consisted of:

1 little monkey on the chair.

2 little monkeys on the chair.

3 little monkeys...

... off the chair (which broke).

Umm... yes, epic. Definitely should have been made into a film.

Mine was "Dick and Jane" I know because where I went to school it was a requirement that you could read that book before getting promoted into first grade...

Oh dayum, I read a ton of those little kindergarden chapter books when I was little. I read the Spot books and the Bernstein Bears.

My favorite chapter book as a kid and probably the first REAL book I ever read was this little sleddog book called Snow. I checked it out every week at the library. It was kind of dumb, but very inspiring! That cute little puppy saved people and stuff.

ALSO I loved love LOVED The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe!! My favorite Narnia book is The Magician's Nephew though. :3

Hmmm, I really can't remember, probably something from Dr. Seuss though XD

If you mean ones without pictures, probably on of the Bailey Schoolkids books. Those ones are really stupid now that I think about it but I used to love them.

It was book called "who's hat is that?" It had this little wheel thing that you can turn and match the hat with the person. I read it when I was 3 :)

omg, i can't remember what was the first book i ever read... probably some disney or ladybird books, followed by enid blyton stuff and then up onto more difficult books.

but i remember as a tiny tot, my father used to read to me and my sisters while we look at the pictures. That was probably how the reading habit started.

Wow, I can't believe some of you actually remember your first book! Haha, but mine was probably some picture book... most likely The Three Little Pigs or something. I remember buying the first volume of Harry Potter when I was in kindergarten just because it had lots of pages. XD The first time i read it, I didn't get it. But after like 6 years later I got around reading it and soon enough I was done with the series. Yay!

I certainly can not recall the first book I read on my own, but I do remember going through an abundance of silly alphabet books.

Although it wasn't the first, Where the Wild Things Are is one I actually remember specifically reading on my own.
