Well, I've been writing a lot of short stories lately, but I really want to write an entire novel. I have a basic idea in mind and want your opinon on it to see if it can even generate any interest.
Setting: Modern Day; a few years from now (whenever now is when I start writing the story). Big City setting in America.
Basic Plot: A soldier who came back from the latest war and turned his life around by giving his whole being into his once secondary religious beliefs. He goes so far as to forsake his friends and family and becomes a priest (assumedly catholic though never specified) which he has subconcsoius regrets about.
Over time in the boring, monotonous world he begins to see "demons" and hears messages from "God" to expunge them from our world. He feels it is his holy duty to slay these demons by any means necessary.
The priest slowly but surely loses his sanity after slaying dozens of these demons. He goes into hiding since he feels the demons are after him and begins to become almost conspiritorial that the demons have infilitrated the highest levels of our government. Using his past army/marine (undecided as of yet) he begins a mass offensive against the demons from the shadows.
He begins to use despicable means to carry out his slaying, using bait and "innocents" to lure the demons to him.
End twist: At the very end he is caught, tried and sentenced to death, all the while believing that he is a religious warrior, a modern day crusader of justice. He goes to his death with a smile on his face and a prayer on his lps.
The truth of the story, he was never slaying demons, he had begun a mass slaughter of regular people ((completely unbeknownst to him and the reader, including evidence that he may actually be correct in assuming people are demons.))
Message: It's really a look into the delicate human psyche and subtle anti-organized religious under-tones. Not necessarily atheist views or Agnostic, but mroe of a view that mankind is corrupted and thus all things created by man are in the end fated to corrode.
