Guess whose back?

You're probably wondering why I'm posting the editorial when just last issue, yukoshi informed people that I was infact stepping down. That was like a few months ago, and since then the NL has been busy busy trying to solve the endless mysteries we tend to encounter, also trying to pick a new Editor-in-Chief.

We settled on .:rei:. to be the newly appointed Ed-lord (as we say in the NL HQ) because out of all the editors, she was the most active. Funny how you want to make things on time and stuff but this is an online thing, and we've all got lives beyond CB (Like omg, we do!?). So alas, like me, .:rei:. had to step down because of personal matters (like the words, ey?) and now that I no longer have to worry about overstressing in uni and moving to a new country, I'm taking the reigns once again. Let's hope that my new role as Moderator for Town Hall won't make me step down again, at least for a few more issues to come ^__^

We're still in the aftermath of the joke, and it looks like we've lost a few good ones :( Especially some of my favourite people, but our communication doesn't end there. And since I'm writing this, I'd like to personally apologise to the people to whom I pretended to know nothing about AF ^_^" I still love you guys <3

Apologies for the extended publish date. We really wanted to have a monthly issue out but we came across too many problems that we had to fix it. Question about the ad above? We need new members! Over the last month, we've lost some of our great contributing reporters and we're in need of new meat to add spice into our mix so help us out onegai-shimasu.

Mirai Nikki - Manga Review

Ah, new fresh morning, take a swig of coffee, put that tie on, and whip out your manga. A normal Saturday morning, no? Maybe for some of us.

One of more interesting mangas I've found was Mirai Nikki by Sakae Esuno. The story starts off with Yukiteru Amano, a student who refuses to hang out with friends, and always writes in his diary on his cell phone. All he claims to have is his imaginary friend, Deus Ex Machina, who is in fact the God of Time and Space. Deus decides to play a game, a game of...tag, you could say. If you get tagged, you're out. And possibly dead.

Yukiteru, nicknamed Yukki by many, meets Yuno Gasai, an almost mentally unstable female who stalks Yukki and keeps track of his movements every ten minutes in her cell phone diary. Deus signs up another 10 "Diary Holders," including Yukki and Gasai, people who can predict a certain aspect of the future with their diaries, making a total of 12 Holders. The only way to knock the other Holders out of the game is to eliminate either the Diary, or the Holder themselves. The winner gets to become the heir to Deus, the new God of Time and Space.

The first few chapters are pretty interesting, and get the story ready. Once a few more of the Holders are introduced, the action really starts to kick in, as the Third Holder is quickly shown near the beginning, and the Fourth teaming up with Yukki with some plans of his own. The others are also introduced one by one as the story progresses.

The artwork is nice, though not my personal favorite. Though it may not be my personal taste, it suits the manga fine, and the details are pretty good. The story can relate and feel easily like Death Note, as I noticed myself. The suspence, mystery, and other blood and slight gore adds to it.

The characters develop as well, mostly shown by Yukki. During the events of wanting to be killed by almost everyone he meets, he does gain a few friends who aid him, though he is always troubled yet helped by Gasai. Gasai also devolops along in the story, though opposite of Yukki, who becomes more open. Gasai's obsession of Yukki and mental instability increase, even threatening to kill anyone who gets close to Yukki.

All in all, I'm loving the whole series so far, despite only 26 chapters scanlated. I, personally, recommend Mirai Nikki, especially if you're a Death Note fan.

Mushishi - Anime Review

Set in a fictional Japanese like universe Mushishi follows the journeys and trials of a man named Ginko..A man who has pure white hair..A man who always has one eye covered because of it's complete blackness of lack of being there. And if that wasn't enough for you beings inhabit this universe called Mushi..Something akin to spirits of the air and ground and well pretty well everything..

The anime follows the travels of Ginko who as a Mushishi understands the nature and problems that the Mushi cause to the populace of the land..Whether it be making a person blind enough that sunlight hurts their eyes..To giving people a weird rusted look on their skin Ginko travels the land and fixes the problems that the Mushi create when they interact with the humans. Ginko as a Mushishi has to constantly keep on the move and cannot stay in one place for more then a few weeks because his very nature is that he attracts Mushi and that the longer he stays the more mushi congregate and the bigger and more troublesome they become.

Only a select few can see these spirit like creatures and even fewer have the ability or the time required to become a Mushishi who is basically an expert on the subject matter a doctor of a kind.

This anime doesn't delve in to deep action filled plots or suspense or murder but rather sets it's own nice relaxed pace early on in it's 26 episode span..So if your not one that liked say Witch Hunter robins Pace or the Travels of Kino then this anime probably isn't for you..But even then I suggest you take a look at a quote on what Wikipedia has to say on the matter and this may just change your mind to look at this wonderful anime.

The series has won numerous awards; in 2003, the manga was awarded an Excellence Prize for manga at the 7th Japan Media Arts Festival[1], while in 2006, the series won the Kodansha Manga Award for general manga.[2] At the 10th Japan Media Arts Festival, both the anime and manga series were placed among the top 10 in their respective categories for best manga and anime.[3] The anime series won grand prizes in the categories of television series and best art direction (for Takashi Waki) at the 5th Tokyo Anime Award competition held at the Tokyo International Anime Fair in 2006.[4]

Set in an era of Japan long forgotten but with a modern twist Mushishi is an anime which I'm proud to label on my top favorites list and always look forward to watching and rewatching.

It has been made into a live action movie from which you can see a sceen in my avatar and the anime it'self was made off of the manga it was originally written in.

10/10 from my books and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did.

Bamboo Blade - Anime Review

When you want to know if an anime is worth watching, what should you do? Some practical ways are to read the description, check out the genres, and maybe even look at a few screenshots. Another idea is to ask around, but if you’re like me, then what anybody else thinks hardly ever matter. Well, it’s time to throw all that out the window, and loosen up your life with a heartwarming series called Bamboo Blade.

Everything about Bamboo Blade screams out “average” louder than just about anything you’ve ever seen. A comedy/slice of life series that focuses on Kendo… boring huh? The sports genre has always been a good genre, some popular ones like Slam Dunk, Prince of Tennis, and Hajime no Ippo have all been a load of fun, and that’s mostly because of the sports competition drama that each of them excelled at. One look at a picture of Bamboo Blade would tell you that this one isn’t going to be like the other sports series, and it doesn’t seem to have the content that can win the comedy game either. The main characters are girls who don’t look anywhere close to being skilled, and rags to riches type of sports stories have always featured guys. If you didn’t skip this series already, then you must be asking yourself “what could possibly be good about this show?”

Premiered in Fall 2007, I decided to watch Bamboo Blade simply because the title sounded interesting to me, and it’s always nice to watch girls. In other words, I took a blind stab at it. After watching the first episode, well, I’ve never seen anything this “average”. The art and animation is average, the characters were all “ok whatever” (no sexy anime girls), and the plot is nothing to get excited about. Why did I continue with the series? Because I had no reason not to. The good thing about average is that it’s not bad. Since I had anticipated this series before it actually premiered, it would’ve damaged my ego to drop it, so I kept watching.

A few episodes later, I began to realize a couple things. First, the characters’ personalities are all distinctly different and they make a nice group when they’re put together. Second, I’m actually interested in what happens next. As I kept on watching, about half way through the series, I was captivated by the x-factor of Bamboo Blade: “Everything that goes wrong always end up OK.”

There is no rivalry, nor is there fierce competition. This means that you won’t ever have to suffer the tear-drenching heartbreaks that have become a staple of sports drama. Enveloped in the world of “There can only be one winner”, Bamboo Blade puts more focus on the things that are gained from simply practicing and competing in Kendo rather than winning. The loser of a match always gains just as much as the winners, and sometimes they even gain more. You get to watch characters grow, develop, and overcome all obstacles with the help of their friends. Oh yeah, let me mention that there aren’t any frustrating romance drama crap either (thank god).

When I watched Death Note and Code Geass, I was constantly bugged by the fact that everything that can go wrong always does in those two series, and that their justice is always distorted. From this perspective, Bamboo Blade is the exact opposite, and you will always come out a happier person than when you started watching.

If you’re ever wondering about what anime to watch, be sure to check out Bamboo Blade, because you’ll feel good about watching it, and that’s all that matters.

Spring Anime Lineup

With the winter anime lineup coming to an end and with it some great anime seasons (i.e. Bamboo Blade, Clannad, True Tear...Etc) we find ourselves looking forward to the next season, looking at the list of announced animes to find a couple that will replace the empty space left there by losing the animes of last season. With so many releases, how will we choose what to watch when April finally comes and with it a whole new batch of animes? With my handy-dandy Spring Anime Lineup list of course. The following contains most if not all of the animes to be released come spring, along with a link to the website, trailers if there is one and what day it’ll be released so we can mark our calendars and start stocking up on pocky. I hope my list helps you consider some series you wouldn’t normally have and maybe check out some new series.

Kyou Kara Maoh R:

2008 will be a big year for Kyo Kara Maoh fans, with the last two episodes of the OVA finally being released around March as well as the brand new season which will continue the ever popular story of Yuri Shibuya and his attempt to survive in this alternate reality. For those who don’t know the basic plot of Kyo Kara Maoh; Our main protagonist Yuri, who tried to help a fellow classmate from getting beat up gets a swirly (face dunked in the toilet), except when they flush the toilet he ends up getting sucked in and tossed out in some sort of medieval world which just to happens to be on the brink of a war between Mazoku and Humans. Yuri is taken in by the Mazoku and made their king (aka. Maoh) simply because of his black hair and black eyes, now he has to learn of the war of which they’re fighting and try to figure out a way to end it peacefully. The OVA and third season remain on such a plot, though it’s most likely evolved into a much deeper story then that now. No actual plot information has been released on the third season as of yet. Kyou Kara Maoh season 3 will air in April 2008.

Alison & Lilia:

Alison and Lilia is based on the light novels of Keiichi Sigsawa (Creator of Kino no Tabi). The two novels tell two different stories with a period of 15 years in-between them, yet both stories will be told in this one series; the first half dedicated to Alison with the second dedicated for Lilia. The series will take place in a timeline similar to the 1930’s. The two main continents of the world are separated by huge mountains and a gigantic river, thus separating the two almost completely. The main character for the first half of the anime, Alison, accompanied by her good friend Treize end up stealing a fighter plane and chasing after some kidnappers while also looking for ‘a treasure that will end the war’ that’s been going on for quite some time between two cultures. The second half’s main character, Lilia, mother of two children and Treize’s girlfriend will end up getting mixed into the plot eventually as well, but not a lot of info has been released on her half. Alison and Lilia will air in April 2008.

Continuing the amazingly popular story of Lelouch and his newfound ability to control others with his eye thanks to a power known as “Geass” as given to him by a mysterious girl known as CC, Lelouch makes his mark on the world by starting a rebellion against the The Empire of Britannia who have invaded and overpowered Japan. Lelouch strives to make the world peaceful once more before his sister Nunally regains her eyesight. Almost no information has been given on the plot as of yet, but its quite simple to guess for those who have seen season one. Code Geass R2 will air in April 2008.

Soul Eater is based on a manga with the same name and revolves around Kid, Maka and Black Star as they strive to make a “Death Scythe” for a Shinigami to use. The show is based around technicians, such as the main characters, each character is given a “weapon companion” and is sent to Shinigami Technical School so that their weapon will eventually upgrade enough so that it will reach the title of “Death Scythe” so that a Shinigami could use it in battle. Upgrading a weapon can be done by doing “homework” such as collecting some evil spirits or stopping wars and such. The weapons are also capable of transforming into “Demon Weapons” to release their full potential (Seems a lot like D. Gray-man). Soul Eater will air in June 2008.

Wagaya is an anime based of the series of light novels by Jin Shibamura, they tell the story of a thousand year old fox demon that was able to use different kinds of magic and spells to protect the Mitsuji family, but the demon had a bothersome personality and couldn’t help but to play pranks on people until it was sealed away from the world. Then several thousand years later, in modern times, it was released again. Too old to remember its own sexuality, and capable of switching back and forth between both, it uses it’s amazing wit and magic to blend in with us humans and to use out technology, but it still keeps its mischievous personality and at the same time is dedicated to protecting Takagami. Wagaya will air April, 2008.

Yet another anime based on a series of novels, this time by Hiro Arikawa who writes the story of a dystopia future where a large city has been placed under martial law, only the laws are now enforced by giant mechas. The public soon realizes that they’ll have no choice but to rebel against the government and force them to remove the martial law, but they don’t have the means to fight back. Luckily the library has been working on a rebellion since the beginning and has gathered soldiers and weapons, all they need to do is fight back. Toshokan Sensou is set to air for April, 2008.

RD Senno Chosashitsu (aka. Real Drive):

In the futurist world of Real Drive, the internet has continued to evolve to the point where people are able to link with one another’s conscious. Yet hackers and glitches caused “The Network” to become unstable and potentially dangerous to those who used it, though people used it nonetheless finding themselves unable to live without it. Eventually a second version of The Network was released, this time safer and complete, they called this new network “The Metal”. Inside the metal people would release their conscious into vessels that resided in “The Metal”, much like the bodies used in the real world. Yet the difference between the world of The Metal and the true world were completely different, thus a strange reaction began to occur. Both worlds began to leak into one another reality in fiction and vice versa. Real Drive tells the story of a Cyber Diver (Experts that investigate The Metal) who investigates the incidents that reside between Reality and the Metal. The Metal will have 13 episodes and will begin to air April of 2008.

Himitsu - Top Secret:

Based on a manga by Reiko Shimizu, Himitsu takes place in the not so faraway future where technology has evolved in most key areas like weapons and medicine. One of the most popular inventions is a brain-scanner capable of showing the specimens memories as far back as 5 years, but they don’t have to be alive in order for the procedure to work. Needless to say, the police have a high use for such a machine and use it in tough cases when they cannot find out who the killer is. But what if this power to see into the minds of the dead came at a price? Himitsu will air April of 2008.

Macross celebrates 25 years of interstellar battles by releasing Macross F. Originally started airing on December 23rd 2007, Macross F continues 5 years after the first, the Macross Frontier still making its way across the galaxy while trying to colonize and assure the survival of mankind. A popular pop idol decides to make an appearance on the Macross ship when they’re suddenly attacked by a mysterious enemy fleet. Macross will continue to air well into 2008.

To Love Ru tells of a boy named Rito Yuuki whose life isn’t so much different as other boys, he goes to school, does his homework and has trouble confessing to the girl of his dreams, but his life won’t be normal for very long, in the middle of taking a bath a naked girl appears from nowhere and explains that she’s being forced by her father to return back to her home world to marry and become the new ruler of their world, but she doesn’t want too, so she decided on her own that she’ll marry Rito so she doesn’t have to move back. To Love Ru is set to air April 3rd, 2008.

17 year old Fujiwara Naeka lives alone with her brother in the middle of Japan, focusing on schoolwork and making sure her brother grows up well, she pretty much has no time to do other things like clean the house of water the garden, well now she won’t have too. As it turns out, her and her brother are the two last heirs to a large tycoon and when she turns 18, will be a multi-millionaire. To protect her and her brother, two maids have been dispatched to assure they’re safety. Firstly, Fubuki a young and skilled maid who does her job perfectly, and secondly a huge man wearing a maid mask and standing roughly 7 feet tall with muscles that can be used as Kevlar. Fujiwara must put her lives in the hands of these butlers as unknown assassins and mobsters try to kill her to inherit the fortune. Maid Guy is set to air the 5th of April, 2008.

Ever since they first met, when they were 6 years old, Kei has had a huge crush on Hikari, it’s common knowledge to everyone except herself, who doesn’t understand her own feeling too well. Instead Hikari thinks she sees Kei as a rival and has spent her entire life since they met trying to get the better of him in all things, but sadly Kei seems to be able to beat her at everything he attempts, so she hasn’t been able to win once. Hikari has followed Kei into a very expensive and well known academy, continuing her efforts to try and overcome him, while he does his best to try and confess his feelings. Special A will air the 7th of April, 2008.

On the island of Hatsunejima , there is said to be a tree, a on which if you make a wish of the purest kind, it will come true. The truth is such a tree exists, but it’s a prototype artificial wish-granting machine, capable of making your dreams come true, so long as they’re pure. Many years ago a girl named Sakura wished upon the tree and the result of her wish was Yoshiyuki Sakurai, the main protagonist. Years later, when Yoshiyuki is entering high school, the magic tree that caused his birth had a glitch, it began to grant all wishes no matter if they were pure or not. Now Yoshiyuki and his friends must decide if they should destroy the tree and save the island, but in result would cause Yoshiyuki to cease to exist. Da Cappo II is set to air April 23rd, 2008.

In the not so far away future, there’s a place called Rags Town, it’s the sewer of human life, every murderer, drug addict and rapist call this place home, a place where the police have a call every 10 minutes and almost all of them are a serious crime. Shun is a detective, he calls such a place home as well, solving cases here and there but mostly just doing whatever he wanted to do. One night he finds a girl, she doesn’t remember her name, she doesn’t remember where she came from, she doesn’t remember anything, Shun eventually decides to help the girl, it could be more than just a simple case of amnesia. Crystal Blasé will air April 17th, 2008.

Rokujou isn’t like most kids, and everyone knows it. He has a hijustu inside of him, a hidden power that grants him the power of creation. It just so happens that this specific hijustu is famous in the ninja world and that whichever ninja who holds it will be the ruler of all the ninja clans, so now the race is on to see which can get the hijustu first. Rokujou joins a “Way of the Ninja” club at school, created by a classmate and his English teacher, who are both ninjas as well. Rokujou must become Ruler of Nabari if he wants to survive. Nabario no Ou will air April 6th, 2008.

Yuki’s first memory consists of being alone and scared, captured by a vampire, about to be devoured, when suddenly another vampire came from the shadows and saved her. Ever since then shes devoted her life to protecting the vampire race, and her savior, Kaname, from being discovered as he leads a group of vampires at a local high school. Yuki is also friends with a boy named Zero, who cant help but feel a deep hatred for vampires, who took away everything he loved. Yuki must make sure no one finds out about Kaname and the secret club while balancing a normal life as a human on the side as well. Vampire Knight will air April 7th, 2008.

An anime made entirely by flash, Toei Animation helps tell the story of two parents as they raise 3 daughters. The anime will be aimed at children and parents alike as the parents learn about how tough it is to raise 3 kids. Uchino will air April 8th, 2008.

Golgo 13 is a remake of an old series of the same name. Golgo is the codename of an assassin, capable of killing any man, anywhere for a high price. Golgo’s reputation skyrockets and more and more people are requesting his expertise, until one mission where he assassinates the son of a large tycoon. The father gets the Military and CIA to go after Golgo. Golgo now needs to use all his skills and training just to stay alive. The father eventually going insane, trying to find ways to kill Golgo and not even caring about who it was who hired him in the first place. Golgo 13 will air Apr 11th, 2008.

Chii’s Sweet Home:

One day while on a walk with her mother and siblings, a little kitten wanders away, ending up lost and confused as to where she is and where her family went to. Thankfully a little boy and his mother end up finding the kitten on their way home and eventually decide to keep her, even though it’s against the complex rules, and give her the name Chi. Chi will air March 31st, 2008.

The summer is drawing nearer and people from all over for different reasons are going to attempt to get to the top, this is the story of one party with just that in mind, as they try and get to the top of the Tower of Druaga. On August 10, 2006 Heechul was involved in a car accident while heading back to Seoul from Mokpo(attending Dong Hae's father's funeral).The tires malfunctioned while his car attempted to switch lanes. From this accident, he fractured his femur and sustained several other injuries. He had to stop all activities for 2 months. Heechul's friend Yunho(TVXQ) was poisoned by a female anti-fan. He reacted by posting in his site, telling the girl to come after him instead.

Earlier on I ran into Sarteck our recently promoted administrator who has been a long time member loved and adored by all the men and Feared and abhorred by all the women, After leaving the forum many a moon ago he recently came back and has fulfilled the role of Active administrator in charge of changing stuff around here along with the Administrator team..After reminiscing we got down to business and he deigned to answer some of the questions put forward to him.

Ai: So in other words your only back because of a cosmic accident?

Sarteck: Okay, get this... When I whine and complain about my age, it's all really a cover, see? I'm actually a 13-year old pizza-faced kid living in a rich neighborhood in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. But making everyone think I'm 28, that I've been in and out of the Navy and college, etc., well, it's classic!

"The better form of performing arts: singing or dancing?"

Hrm...I'd have to say dancing. ^-^ I like watching bodies move to music, rather than just watching a singer sing. Not to mention, not all singers can dance.

The question is a tough one... I think that each has it's own unique values, but both are much the same as well. They can both tell stories, for example. I think I would have to go with singing, however--songs have inspired men, cities, even countries for thousands of years, and that continues to this day. Usually, you do not see much dance that is NOT accompanied by song, but you often hear song that is not accompanied by any dance.

OMG YES FINALLY. I've been waiting for this.

It particularly depends, really. Each of the two has their own unique charm, but for now, I gonna have to go with dancing.

I have this thing for body movements. (No, not what you think it is.) Especially hip-hop dances. The extreme movements = Whoa. It's all so... sharp and smooth altogether. You know. It's an almost sport too!

But I hate ballroom dances and ballet... They just kill me on spot.

Argh! You know what? I can't decide. Can't we go with both? I mean, why ask a Super Junior fan? Super Junior do both! AAAAHHH.

The better form of performing arts? Dance! Why? Anybody can do it. They could do it in the tiniest way or in an elaborate way, and it'd still be considered art. There's different types of dance, and each one of them is beautiful to an individual. As they say, actions speak louder than words.

I would say Dancing is the better form of performing arts. By reasoning that when artist put on a show they almost always have dancers on the stage with them. Both are co-dependent on music playing but singing alone isn't always enough. With dancing there's something to be said about the graceful movements of the human form to coincide with the beats. Is a form of moving poetry that can hardly be captured by words. Its an expression of self and emotions. Singing is limited to what the words can express. That is why i feel it is the weaker of the two.

Tough choice, I rather like both, singing for the great cleavage all pop singers seem to have now and the dancing...well...for the cleavage as well :p

I've always preferred dancing to singing personally, not sure why but it ust seems superior to me, the reason probably being that dancing requires more skill and athletic ability I suppose, although singing can still be a pretty hard thing to do (trust me, I know, I can't do either :lol)

So to answer your question, I would say Dancing

well i guess i like how singers can express emotions such as anger, sadness, happiness etc. through singing, and how the listeners can sort of 'feel' them too.

U can be creative and very expressive wid dancing too, but sometimes i just dont get those really artistic dances, so ima say singing lah. ^^;

I think singing is better. I guess that's mostly because I LOVE to sing. When I'm in a bad mood singing makes me feel better. And you can put all sort of words to music which makes it more fun than dancing.

Ingredients:

Organic Oranges sliced to taste
Kumquats sliced to taste
Edible Flowers (use Nasturtium Flowers) to taste
6-4 ounces Water

Preparation:

Add fruits, and edible flowers to pitcher of ice water. Just combine the suggested ingredients add water, cover and chill for at least 30 minutes.

Add ice and pour into tall pretty glasses and serve.

Strawberry - Mint Lemonade

Ingredients

4 cups Water
1 1/4 cups Sugar
5 cups Mint Leaves fresh, lightly packed
1 quart Strawberry hulled, halved
1 cup Lemon Juice fresh squeezed

Preparation

Place 2 cups water, sugar and mint in a small saucepan, bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes.

Strain into a blender, discard mint.

Thinly slice 1 cup of strawberries and set aside.

Add 1/2 of the remaining strawberries to a blender and blend until smooth; pour
into 2 quarter pitcher.

Stir in sliced strawberries and remaining water.

Add sugar to taste if needed, stirring until dissolved.

Cover and chill till serving.

Our story begins in a world centralized around a card game known as Duel Monsters. It’s a game that appears childish and simple, however, such aspects change depending on those who play the game. Rather, the game for some was much more than amusement. It was for domination over the other. Individuals such as Pegasus, Merek, Bakura, and Dartz turned a children’s game into a battlefield in hopes that their own dreams could be fulfilled, even global domination. The antagonist’s plans, such as Bakura’s, usually revolve around attaining the Millenium Puzzle, which can only be done by defeating Yugi Moto, Pharaoh and King of Games, in a duel. At other times, however, different goals were made, although the defeat of Yugi was always somehow essential to complete their plans. As Yugi always says, “You won’t get away with this {insert any villain name here}!!” and stays true to his word.

There were duelists like Yugi who found much more significance than just ink on paper. The monsters they played became as real as themselves, although still only holographic. Pain itself manifested from an imaginary element, emotionally and physically. As monsters were destroyed, some duelists felt the loss of an ally, while others were angry that their monsters were too weak. Trap cards ensnared the hearts of the players. Magic cards were played in attempt to heal their own wounds and assist their own monsters, or inflict more pain to the enemy. Life points became their blood, and direct hits from holographic monsters caused wounds deeper than what any regular physical attack could inflict.

It was originally a game that had the simple purpose of having fun. Over time, however, it changed into a game of severe immediate consequence, deciding balances of power that could change the entire world. However strange the medium for battle may appear, it was indeed on fair ground – only tactics remained. Duelists formulated strategies and combos, assembling powerful cards from their own resources to a single entity, their deck, a heart which reflected their own personalities. Any person, even at a young tender age, could stand up for what they believed in, portraying their very souls with the images of cards played. It could even be one of the youngest, most popular child in the series -- Mokuba. [you wouldn’t forget about Noah, would you?]

Mokuba Kaiba – the brother of the famed duelist who wields the awesome power of unique three Blue Eyes White Dragons. This is his story.
“How?!” Kaiba shrieked, “How could I possibly lose to such an amateur?”

Mokuba watched as his brother, his hero, was blasted by a holographic inferno of dragon’s breath. The friendship circle on the other side cheered, and Kaiba was more confused than disappointed. Yugi gave a pleased smile at the one who defeated Kaiba. Joey Wheeler’s face turned from a face of bewilderment to a goofy grin.

“I actually did it.” Joey thought to himself in disbelief. “I finally defeated Kaiba!”

[note: never would this ever happen in the universe that this story is based upon, but only by the fanservice of a fanfiction writer.]

Seto Kaiba shook his head, in an attempt to keep his cool. “You were lucky this time, Wheeler.”
“Come on.” Joey teased, “I deserve more credit than that.”

Kaiba scowled. “Your strategy was creative, I’ll give you that.” As Kaiba picked up his deck and started walking away, Yami’s booming voice chilled down Kaiba’s usually relaxed spine.

“Aren’t you forgetting about your agreement Kaiba?!”

Kaiba stopped dead in his tracks. Although he was utterly defeated, he still didn’t want to show any apparent weakness. He turned around slowly, and stared deep into Joey’s eyes in hostility.

“By our agreement Wheeler, you are allowed to give me a single order, that doesn’t break the law, which I cannot refuse. So, what will it be?”
“I think you already know the answer—” Joey responded gleefully. “Mutt.”

Kaiba’s eyes widened in unpleasant surprise, as the situational irony had struck him hard.

“If you honestly believe that I will wear that dog costume that you already wore yourself,” Kaiba said, “then you are mistaken.”
“Well that isn’t fair!” Téa blurted. Before Kaiba could even react to her words with one of his own comeback, Joey chuckled, and shrugged.
“If the loser doesn’t want hand me downs,” Joey mocked, “then I suppose it’s about time we get you a new costume. One of your henchmen can do a favor for me.”
As Kaiba had grudgingly requested, a boxed package arrived promptly in the arms of his little brother. Mokuba didn’t have the heart to tell him that his henchman personally enjoyed following Joey’s secret orders. The order was simple: the henchman was to surprise Joey with his own choice of an embarrassing furry costume for his boss to wear.

The rest of Joey’s demands of Kaiba were also simple. Wear the costume, and publically walk through the main streets of the city for everyone to see, tomorrow.
Seeing his brother hunched over desk, holding his head up with his arm in silent distress, Mokuba calmly placed the package aside by the closest wall, and slowly approached him. Kaiba chose to ignore his younger brother’s presence, and began to shuffle Kaiba Corp. company documents, pretending to be at work

“Mokuba,” Kaiba sternly voiced, “leave me alone. I have much to do.”
“Big brother,” Mokuba sweetly replied, “I never want to see you so unhappy, especially over something as trivial and silly as a bet.”
“Don’t you understand?!” Kaiba said in sudden outburst, “If I cannot defeat someone as Joey, how will I ever match against my rival Yugi? On top of that, if I wear what is enclosed in that package, I’ll be humiliated!”
“Brother,” Mokuba continued, restating the title of affection as an attempt to woo him, “Joey has proved himself as a worthy duelist, just as you have. Why can’t you accept your loss, and move on? There is much more to life than just a card game. Ever since your first duel with Yugi...”
“I’ve had enough of your speeches.”

Mokuba started to tear up. “You are always so wrapped up in winning. Aside from running your company, you always occupy yourself with deck building and duelling simulations. We rarely see each other anymore.” [nyro~n]

Kaiba, still frustrated over the result of the duel, didn’t have the courtesy to respond. Mokuba turned his back away, and wiped the tears from his eyes with one of his sleeves. Running away from the only member of his family, Mokuba gathered enough false courage to utter a harsh guilt trip.

“You’ll only care about me when I am either abducted or dead!”
Kaiba jumped from his desk, and outstretched his arm. “Mokuba, wait!”

However, by the time Kaiba had said this, his little brother was gone.
Mokuba took personal refuge in his room, allowing his body to freeform itself as it lay on his well furnished King-sized bed. Placing his hand over his chest to feel his own aching heart beat, he allowed his body and mind sink into reflective thought and mattress. Closing his eyes, he wondered if his brother could ever change. Unable to figure out a solution to this relationship problem, he sighed. As he was in his reflective state, he began to analyze himself.

“Am I the one that is flawed?” he said to himself. “Would my big brother really be better off without me?”

The thought made him sick to his stomach. He began to have random flashbacks of when he was at the orphanage, when he was with his stepfather, and finally when he was with his brother, Yugi, and his friends. Friends – that single word began to echo in his mind. Although Yugi and his friends were nice to him, and treated him with respect, Mokuba felt that his friendship wasn’t strong in comparison to what they had for each other.

“Perhaps,” he thought, “I need someone other than a brother to share my experiences and secrets.”

Just as Yugi in the times before he completed the Millennium Puzzle, Mokuba wished for true friends. He dismissed this thought from his mind quickly. Wiping the tears from his eyes, he found himself in his own distressful situation.

“I need an escape.”

And that is when Mokuba had an idea.
Mokuba had found it surprisingly easy to find what he was looking for. Before he had left his room for his personal journey, he had written a formal note for Kaiba, as well as informing one of the employees, if Kaiba was to ever wonder where he went. Bypassing all the security that Kaiba had put in place, Mokuba had found the ‘accursed’ Virtual Reality Machine, a machine that Kaiba wished no one would ever use again.

“I wonder what this world will be like, knowing that ‘The Five’ are no more.”

Typing the keys on the console necessary to activate automatic operation, Mokuba gazed at his surroundings, that which was physically real, one last time before he left into a world of fiction. Hopping inside the stasis pod, he closed his eyes in anticipation. The computer initiated countdown out loud, as each passing second, the young boy gradually lost grip on all reality. On mark with the numeric value of zero, Mokuba was thrusted into the realm of cyberspace, as bright colourful streams of digital energy surrounded his physical person. Swept away by this wondrous color, he strayed into the light at the end of the path. Upon seeing the virtual world again, Mokuba rubbed his eyes to the bright glow of a nonexistent sun.

Kaiba continued to mumble to himself at his desk, now also concentrating on his brother’s resentment to him. When he was growing up with his stepfather, he was taught to never lose. As people have said, a Kaiba holds great power from this trait.

“I don’t deserve to have my brother’s respect anymore.” he muttered.

Gripping his hair in frustration and self hatred, Kaiba suddenly felt a sharp coldness on his chest. Recognizing the source immediately, he pulled out his personal locket. He closed his eyes with great remorse, and slowly opened it to reveal his most prized possession: a photograph of his little brother during the times at the orphanage. Kaiba looked upon it contently, and addressed the photo as though it was his brother himself.

“What must I do Mokuba? What must I do to have you on my side?”

Remarkably, Kaiba looked in the direction in which Mokuba’s hand was pointing at as he held the chess piece in the picture, exactly at the section of wall where a certain package was against.

Kaiba sighed heavily. “It figures.”

Moving from the confinement of his desk, Kaiba hesitantly picked up the boxed package.

“For you brother,” Kaiba declared, “only you.”
Mokuba found himself in the most picturesque flowery meadow a human mind could conjure, as if a master painter had drawn it to her will. Lush, bright green grass swayed softly in the wind, and a wide variety of colourful flowers waved hello with their soft petals. The bees buzzed, and the birds chirped with joyful song. Rabbits hopped happily in search for fun. From the distance, Mokuba eyes fell upon a girl he recognized too well: Princess Adina.

Feeling the wind breeze through his long hair, and the sun’s rays beat on his body, he could no longer believe that this wasn’t real. Staring off into what was paradise, Mokuba was caught off guard.

“HEY!! Listen.”

Mokuba, almost having a heart attack from the suddenness of this sound, turned directly towards the source, a small fairy. The young boy quickly recognized this fairy as the small, annoying companion who gave him random clues and comments, as well as targeting ability.

“Disable fairy.”

Instantly, the annoying feature discontinued its existence on Mokuba’s whim. His eyes reverted back to his original point of interest, the female which was picking flowers on her knees, in perfect harmony with the nature surrounding her. She was the most beautiful flower in the field, her frilly pink and yellow dress in the full bloom of spring.

Suddenly, she had become aware of the presence watching her. Mokuba quickly dived into some high grass, and crawled towards her position as quietly as he could. Taking the princess by pleasant surprise, Mokuba hopped from the growth and softly covered her eyes.

“Guess who?”

Relaxing her once tense shoulder muscles in relief, she replied sweetly, “I’ll always remember that voice – the voice of my hero.” [By hero, she could be referring to Mokuba as one of the original heroes in the YGO group that had defeated the Five-Headed Dragon, and had saved the Virtual Kingdom long ago.]

Mokuba uncovered her eyes, and gave her a quick hug from behind. Her heart skipped a beat. In disbelief, the boy savoured the moment as his arms wrapped around what seemed to him as human flesh.

“You really do remember me!” said the young boy to the programmed artificial intelligence.

“Of course I remember you.” she replied, as she turned around smiling, “I wouldn’t be much of a princess if I didn’t remember my bravest soldier – Mokuba.”
Letting go, Mokuba returned the smile with a foolish grin, as he scratched behind the head in attempted modesty. “All I did was pretend to be you by wearing one of your dresses. I hardly call that a brave act.”

Princess Adina shook her head to indicate otherwise. “You had the courage to sacrifice part of your manhood in order so that my life wasn’t endangered. It’s these selfless acts that are recognized.” She paused, and added. “You were also quite cute in my dress as well.”

Blushing, the proclaimed hero broke eye contact with the fair maiden. This time, Adina was the one that startled Mokuba, by gently turning his face towards her eyes with her hands.

“There is nothing to be ashamed about.”

Mokuba, as expected, pulled away from her, and physically turned his body away in shyness. She could easily see his heart sink, as though he thought that didn’t belong in the garden with her. In response, while the human boy was looking away, the virtual girl picked up a flower carelessly, and intentionally cut the tip her finger with a thorn. She yelped a small cry of pain, as intended. Mokuba instantly turned back towards her, and firmly clasped her thin gloved hands.

“Are you all right?” he asked in urgency, tending to the cut with one of his spare handkerchiefs.

“Yes,” she responded sweetly, “I’m fine. The question is, are you?”

Mokuba couldn’t understand how an artificial program such as this would be able to read a human face and expression so comprehensively. Establishing eye contact once more, Mokuba opened his mouth, but he was unable to formulate any of the words he wanted to say. Princess Adina, Kaiba’s fashioned virtual model originally crafted to resemble some of his brother’s physical appearance in female form, wished that she could use her powers as a Mystical Elf in order to help cure his emotional pain.

In an attempt to not answer the direct question towards him, Mokuba started to pick flowers beside Adina. Adina, although aware of this evasion, allowed it by continuing to collect the bright colors that sprung from the ground. After a while, she became more distracted from her playful task, by the one whom she had always adorned, even through the time that he was in a different world.

Mokuba, Adina’s dream prince in shining armor, stopped for a moment and took the moment to smell a freshly picked flower. His stray hand graced itself beside her on the grass and dirt on which man was not formed from. Adina’s eyes dropped slyly, turning away slightly as she casually placed her hand on top of his. Mokuba’s eyes shot open as he felt the human warmth of her hand against his. He felt a new type of exhilaration that he could not describe from his other experiences of a life centralized around games.

To Mokuba, he no longer viewed Adina as a simple product of his own image, but rather a unique individual in and of herself. Indeed, her body shared some characteristics that Mokuba had, but each noticeable part had an alteration. It was strange to Mokuba that a touch so simple [however false] as this would cause his heart to beat faster. Wordlessly, he offered her a token of affection he just plucked for her to smell. Their eyes met with a newfound passion, as she disregarded the bouquet she plucked for a single flower.
Meanwhile, Kaiba stared inside the now opened package with contempt in his eyes. He shook his head and thought that it would have been much easier to reward Wheeler with a cash prize, rather than selling his dignity. He looked at the picture in his locket once more to give him courage. Although Kaiba was aware that this costume would be exactly his size, he considered vainly wishing that it wasn’t anyways.

“I might as well try this on.”

Much of his dismay, he was correct in the notion that the suit was designed perfectly to fit him, with exact measurements. Kaiba performed simple stretches and manoeuvres as to wear out the material so he could move more freely.
“At least someone isn’t here to see me in this ridiculous costume yet.”
He was incorrect in this notion. For at the same moment that he said this, one of his many henchmen came into his office to give him his weekly update. His usual opening of “Sir, I have completed my status report” was quickly followed by a stifle of laughter.

“If you laugh,” Kaiba declared, “you’re fired.”

His henchman held his breath for as long as possible, with a tear flowing down his face from the struggle to comply with his boss’ ultimatum. “Sir,” he struggled to say, “I’m sorry, but I don’t know how long I can hold it in for.”

Kaiba sighed. “Just get out of my sight.”

The henchman’s struggle not to laugh abruptly ended with a straight face. “Yes, sir.”

As he was heading out of the door, Kaiba added. “Please remember to knock next time.”

Kaiba’s henchman bowed his head in gratitude, in response to his boss’ unusual mercy.
Mokuba had been so lost in the moment that he had almost forgotten about the real world, and the time he had already spent with Adina.
“I have to leave now.” Mokuba gloomily said. “My brother will wonder where I went.”

“Oh, all right.” Adina said coyly. “Are you sure you do not want to stay for dinner at my castle?”

Mokuba nodded, and held her hands contently, as they sat alone in the garden. “I’ll be sure to visit you again, Princess.”

“Come back soon, my knight,” As Mokuba phased back into his own world, she whispered, “my prince.”

Mokuba opened his eyes to the real world, only to be greeting by a pair of angry eyes that Mokuba know too well. Kaiba, now back in his original clothes, as to savour the time he wasn’t in the costume, was waiting impatiently for Mokuba to get out of the pod. Closing his eyes once more, although they were closed for quite some time already, Mokuba mentally attempted to prepare himself for what his big brother was going to say to him. He hopped out of the chamber, and walked hesitantly to the only member of his family.

Kaiba knelt on one knee, and firmly clasped Mokuba’s shoulders. Looking at Mokuba sternly, he scolded. “I told you to never use this machine again. On top of disobeying that order, you lied to me in your note.” [that said he was in the arcade room.]

As Mokuba looked into his brothers eyes, know full well he could give no rebuttal for all that his brother said was true. He looked down to his feet in shame. Kaiba slowly took his hands off his shoulders, and wrapped his arms around his brother. The younger brother couldn’t understand this sudden change, but it gave his own heart comfort. Giving his older brother a full hug back, he cried, “Forgive me.”
“Please, promise me.” Kaiba said in urgency. “Promise me that you will never use this machine ever again.”

Crying, Mokuba replied. “I promise, brother.”

“I’ll forgive you,” Kaiba replied, “but don’t dare think I’ll go easy on you next time!”
Mokuba wiped the tears from his eyes with his sleeves. Kaiba gently let go of his brother’s shoulders, and both stood up to straighten out their clothing.
“I finally tried on that costume today.” Kaiba said in order to lighten up the situation.

“Oh?” Mokuba said jokingly, his sly eyes looking toward his brother in a less serious light, his hands placed square on his hips, and an undeniably deviant smile. “When will I get to see you in it?

Kaiba ruffled Mokuba’s hair. “You’ll get to see enough of it tomorrow you little brat!”

Pffft. Blitz, Prof, and SH have been WAITING for me to make a mistake. They'll pounce on me for something like that; "Improper Use Of Administrative Privileges, Section C, Sub-Section IV (MISC): An Administrator shall not sticky his or her own threads for personal advertisement, unless he or she does so on the count of three. He or she shall NOT count to four, nor shall he or she count to two, excepting that it is on the way to three. Five is right out."

If I screw those harsh isntructions up, they'll strip me of Adminship and make me walk naked, tarred, and feathered through the 12th Division (and THOSE guys are freaks, heh). ;)

Great job. Enjoyed every bit of it. A good read. The interviews were hilarious. Liked the Manga/Anime reviews. Just good in general, first time reading the CBNL too.
