Photo of the Month #9:
A little something from your homeland/country
(Theme Selected by Sunshine - January 2008 Winner)
The theme simply demonstrates few things that reminds us where we originally born or where we currently live. Food, clothing, places, accessories, and books are among few of these examples to showcase our histories and cultures to others.
Anyway, every POTM (Photo of the Month), we usually identify the winner at the end of the voting poll date or later published on CBNL as a mystery surprise champion. From this time on, the participants' names will include on their entires - so that (obviously) people will get the idea who took it.

Country: Australia
Site: Blue Mountains
A world heritage site and a popular tourist spot in Sydney, the Blue Mountains gets its name from the blue color reflected by the Australian gum trees in certain conditions in the distance.
More importantly, what does this have to do with the theme besides being a tourist spot? A couple of things-
-the famed sunny Australian weather long sought by Brits
-the native bush prominently seen in the bottom (and as said before the fact the flora/fauna are protected in the heritage site speaks volumes of the importance of the wildlife)
-the rock formation that funnily resembles some sort of big cat/mountain lion. (interesting how the actual conditions of light and shadows create this effect) Whilst I only realised this after uploading the photo, it is quite ironic as there have been rumors of mountain cats on the prowl in the mountains- and i just find it quite funny the rock resembled that and i did not notice it for a while.
-Also the rugged and even sculptural rock formation symbolises the dry and rugged lands of Australia itself
-The actual 'panther/wildcat' looks like its looking up to the sky for rain. Austalia is a dry continent, and the bushlife have adapted to dry conditions, yet at the moment the land is actually in a severe drought and i feel the dry, rocky form of the panther/wildcat symbolises the longing for rain quite well, looking up to the clouds.
...i should give this site a name...maybe "Panther's point" xD

Country: Philippines/Canada
Description: I was born and grew up in the Philippines until I moved to Canada with my family. That's why I put two countires above. It simply describes my past and present on where exactly I'm living.
The photo above takes place on a coffee bar here in Canada. It really intrigued me because it's very unsual for umbrellas to use it as lanterns. But, this is not what I want to describe (although Asian Cultures use lanterns in the past centuries). For these umbrellas above, it almost appear a little bit closer like the ones dancers used for props - especially Filipino Muslim Dancers (I think). :p
To me, this is interesting and reminds me of my own native land.
On the other hand, for the creative perspective on my entry, I like the lights that come from the umbrella lanterns because they are soft and it gives us the idea of the warm and cozy place. In additional, I like the way on how the umbrella laterns arranged in one curve-like direction to appear more interesting and to draw our eyes in another way (instead of vertical or horizontal view on how we look on photos). That's another reason why I've chosen this photo for this contest.
The voting poll begins now until April 6, 2008.
Everybody is allowed to vote.
The winner will detemine by most popular votes.
You are free to comment or give crtiques to both particioants.
May the best photographer win!!! :p
Note: Sticky, please.
