Set in the middle of summer, Air's story revolves around three girls whose lives are connected to the same man. Yukito Kunisaki, the main protagonist, is a showman traveling across Japan, continuing his mother's search for the "girl in the sky".

At the beginning of the story, Yukito comes across a small seaside town where the story takes place. On his first day in town, Yukito tries to earn money by putting on a mysterious puppet show for kids he finds by manipulating a doll magically without strings. Yukito is unsuccessful in gaining the children's favor, and the children end up running off without paying him for his performance.

Defeated after not getting any money, and not having enough for even a meal, Yukito falls asleep on a seawall near the beach. He awakens the next day to find beside him a young girl who introduces herself as Misuzu Kamio – a sincere yet clumsy girl who is eager to become friends with him. Misuzu persistently attempts to play with him, while Yukito tries to refuse her efforts. When Misuzu finds out Yukito has not eaten anything since the day before, she suggests that he come to her house and eat for the time being. Lured by a chance to eat, Yukito follows her back home. Upon learning of Yukito's lack of lodging, Misuzu suggests that he stay at her home until he can find a place in town while he earns money, despite Yukito's hesitance to go along with her plan. That night, Haruko – Misuzu's aunt and foster-mother – comes home and after Yukito and Misuzu persuade her, it is decided that he will stay with them on two conditions: that he sleeps in the shed, and that he shares a drink with Haruko.

As Yukito resides with Misuzu, he meets two other girls, Kano Kirishima and Minagi Tohno, who like Misuzu, have strange personalities connected with mysterious pasts. Before long, a legend of "one thousand summers" begins to unfold where the mysteries of the past are framed by the odd relationship between Yukito and Misuzu.

Cant believe no thread was made for this amazing anime!!

I was actually thinking of starting this anime since I've finish Sola. I'm debating whether to watch this, Kanon, Clannad, or Shakugan no Shana. I've heard their stories are pretty similar though.

Yeah they are. Kanon is pretty good as well. I gotta check Clannad out sometime.

There's a really old FC around here somewhere, but it died ages ago.

Anyway, I LOVE Air. <3 I watched it on a whim one week and it was amazing.

POTATO IS A BONUS.

Kanon is pretty good as well. I gotta check Clannad out sometime

Kanon's great - I didn't like either version as much as Air, though.

And I'm SO far behind in Clannad. D:

How many current episodes are there in Clannad?

It had 23 episodes, and it's finished airing.

As announced in the May 2008 issue (released on March 30, 2008) of Dengeki G's Magazine, Kyoto Animation will produce a second anime season entitled Clannad After Story which will animate the After Story arc from the visual novel which is a continuation of Nagisa's story. The anime will be broadcasted on television and will have the same staff and cast as with the first anime.

Heh, Shakugan no Shana is in no way like the others, and imo is quite a dissapointing letdown. I saw the first few episodes of Air and Kanon, and personally thought Kanon showed more promise. I am waiting the the rest of Clannad to stop airing before I watched them (and what do you know, the last episode aired yesterday, although a sequel is on its way), but this one also looks interesting. I dont know if im in for a romantic mind**** right now though, been really into Slam Dunk and Shion no Ou, so I am kind of on a sports anime obsession at the moment. They are surprisingly good.

Oops, I meant to leave out Shakugan no Shana, lmao. But yeah, anyways, thanks for telling me that Kanon is better. So far, I'm leaning towards Kanon as my next anime, but I plan on watching Air as well.

Kanon > Air > Clannad imo.

Air starts off great, with amazing atmosphere, but the 1000 years ago arc was a turn off for me, and the final arc had too many crying scenes. Otherwise, I'd say that Air was the best.

Kanon is great too, but the city setting was less mystical compared to the small town setting of Air.

Clannad was too much school life, and overall execution quality was a lot worse than its predecessors.

For me, it'd be Air > Kanon > Clannad, but I've yet to finish Clannad, so that may change. It seems as though most people lean towards Clannad > Air > Kanon.

Kanon is great too, but the city setting was less mystical compared to the small town setting of Air.

I agree. Air's setting had a really nice feeling - Kanon's was a little lacklustre in comparison.

Kanon's Makoto was <3!!!!

I think that's why Kanon didn't have as much of an impact on me as Air did - I didn't really like Ayu that much. D:

aiyo Ayu is my fav xD;
I really wannt to try a taiyaki everytime she eats one ;_; *will try making one with hot cakes*
and yeah, makoto is pretty cute as well <3 I hope she remembers more, so sad :<

Makoto was definitely one of my favs.

Its Air>Kanon by a sugar bit.

Gotta start Clannad soon.

Air > Kanon > Clannad for myself. Though it has been a while since Ive seen Air, pretty close call between it and Kanon, both amazing but I liked the characters and story more in Air then I did with the other ones, so it came out ontop. The pacing of Air and Kanon was really well done, whereas Clannads was horrible, some of the more popular characters having an arc of 1 or 2 episodes whereas Fuukos arc was like 5. Also, there was more sad parts in the others, where Clannad made me choke up like once... twice maybe... Air had me bawling like a little girl and Kanon had some moving stuff as well. I guess this is Kyotos version of "and they all lived happily ever after", though that might change in the continuation. Still, im happy to see the sequel for it, which apperantly is the best part of the story.

Has anyone else seen a movie call Air? I recall that I have, and I didn't like it that much. A lot of people say Air series>>>>Air movie.

I would like some confirmation, please.

There was an air movie made in where they basically recapped the series and a special 2 ep OVA telling of what happened like 8484858454 years before then, with the winged girl n what not.

Air series > Air movie, by a large number

Of course. The movie I have to say, was a cheap rip off of the actual series.

You guys should check out my thread for the Air AMV in the AMV sect.

Kanon is sad too!
but they are still awesome!

Yeah, I just finished Kanon and it's sad... even though it has a rather happy ending.

So in terms of sadness, which one is sadder, Kanon or Air?

AIR, my god I bawled like a baby watching Air countless times...

I would have to say Air. I ALMOST shed a tear on episode 11. Kanon was sad but not too touching for me.

SupraSpeed

air is sadder, both are great shows though.

Minami Itsuki

Yeah no doubt about that. Both animes are really great and very interesting. I liked Air more though.

Neko Rae

I decided to give this anime another try but the piko piko thing really ruins it. It's so annoying. And I don't really like any of the characters so I probably won't find it that sad but I guess I'll have to wait and see

Minami Itsuki
04-27-2008, 08:00 AM
You quit this?! You gotta start again! Its absolutely amazing.

Neko Rae
04-27-2008, 07:28 PM
I finished it. It was a lot better than I thought it would be but I still think it's overrated. It was too short and Misuzu was the only girl that really had an arc

Guy
04-27-2008, 09:44 PM
Well, I'm watching this anime right now. The artwork is better in the anime than the movie (gosh, everything in the movie was so bright).

Wow, so many girls in this anime... typical, since it did came from an H-game.

Neko Rae
04-27-2008, 10:11 PM
Mizusu is really the only that's in it a lot. The other girls are just in the beginning

Minami Itsuki
04-28-2008, 02:46 AM
Yeah the other girls are really really minor actually. Even the main character died. It was kinda confusing..I didnt really get it the first time lol.

Neko Rae
04-28-2008, 02:48 AM
I wanted to see more of Kano's older sister. She was my favorite character by far

Guy
04-28-2008, 05:25 AM
Errr... stupid question, but does it get any more interesting? So far, all they do is talk about boring aspects about life: going to school, delivering lunches for a friend who forgot to bring it, finding a lost pet, etc.

Minami Itsuki
04-28-2008, 05:43 AM
It gets much more interesting but more confusing. But, in the end, it is amazing.

Neko Rae
04-28-2008, 03:51 PM
@Guy after all that stuff it goes to a million years in the past and it seems like a completely different anime. And I actually liked that part much better than the rest of the anime

Guy
05-03-2008, 01:19 AM
Wow, just like Kanon, this anime has a slow beginning but gets gradually better once you get to know more about the girls.

Neko Rae
05-03-2008, 05:11 PM
have you finished it yet?

Guy
05-03-2008, 06:18 PM
Nah, I'm still in the summer arc. Lol, the feudal people's stories are more interesting than Yukito's story, lmao. But it was cute, how he learned more tricks with his puppet.

The anime is WAY better than the movie, I agree now.

Neko Rae
05-03-2008, 07:05 PM
what episode are you on now?

Guy
05-03-2008, 08:37 PM
Finished it :)

The ending was good. I really liked episode 11, when Misuzu decided to go with her aunt instead of her father. This anime is very good, I liked it.

Neko Rae
05-03-2008, 08:40 PM
Yes, episode 11 was good. But I think the anime was a little too short

Guy
05-03-2008, 09:59 PM
I thought it was alright; I didn't want it to be pointlessly long. To be honest, they should've just do it all on the Feudal people and Misuzu, and not on the other girls. The two other girls don't really interest me...

Neko Rae
05-03-2008, 10:09 PM
I would like it better if it was just about the fuedal people. I didn't really care about Misuzu

Guy
05-03-2008, 10:19 PM
Aww... but I felt so bad for poor Misuzu :(

I didn't care about Tohno and Kano very much, though. Well, Tohno's a bit cute, but Kano was just blah.

Neko Rae
05-03-2008, 10:23 PM
Yeah, I didn't like Kano but her older sister is awesome <3

Guy
05-03-2008, 10:27 PM
Hey, she stopped Kano from becoming emo. How much more awesome can you get? :)

Neko Rae
05-03-2008, 10:30 PM
Exactly. She was definitely my favorite character <3
