So, what do you guys think about this whole, "Holiday" Tree issue? Is it wrong to offend certain religions by calling it what it is, a Christmas Tree? Or should these hyper sensitive people get off their soap boxes and start fighting for something that actually matters?
Lol. I didn't know it was an issue to call it a christmas tree. Christmas does not directly apply itself to christianity. The true history of christmas does.

Apparently, a few large stores, are refusing to use the word Christmas in any of their marketing, so as to not offend people of other religions. So they have to call the Christmas trees that they are selling, Holiday Trees. It's a free country, they can call it a Anti-Discrimination tree for all I care, but really, it's just ridiculous.

the tree itself, as well as a lot of other things concerned around X-Mas, are rooted in Paganism. Even the date for X-mas is like this cuz the original pagan festivity of the winter solstice is on Dec. 21st . I guess some of the modern pagans get angry when reading the word X-mas-tree and so, some people try to get around it.

No one's stopping them from celebrating "winter solstice". The fact that some facets of Christmas have pagan roots is irrelevant. Western society has integrated and modified those aspects to suit our culture. Whatever Christmas may have been in the past, is not what the majority of Americans celebrate now. I don't think it is necessary to censor ourselves just to please a very small minority of people who are angry that their version of Christmas isn't as popular.

You know there have been a lot of ridiculous issues this year, while this doesn't take the cake it sure does come close. Throughout history this season has been called christmas, I personally think anyone who feels offended should stay home all season. It honestly doesn't make sense.
they should just call it the dec25th tree and stfu.

you americans and your political correctness, tisk
this is political correctness gone bonkers, it doesnt offend anyone, just some people make it their buisness to moan about every little thing under the sun. "oh, the sun's too warm, ill have to petition the government to get a big colly thing placed over america so it aint so hot", go away you annoying moaner!
It's the same thing as those who say that saying "Observation" is being blindist. It is a stupid arguement like many.
EDIT: I want to throw in a quote -
"The Democrats are the people who say they'll make you smarter, taller, richer, and even clean the crab grass off your lawn. The Republicans say the government doesn't work and then get elected and prove it."

I don't know anyone who's offended by this. last time I checked, Jews don't use trees in celebrating Channukah... I can't say anything about Kwanza, because I dont know anything about that one (although I dont think they do)... and Ramadan is a fasting thing that isnt really celebratory (correct me if I'm wrong). all of my atheist and pagan friends call them christmas trees... I think stores are going a bit too far with this. The government shouldnt be able to do anything, because this really falls under freedom of speech...
my thoughts? its a stupid thing and no matter what happens, Im still calling it a Christmas tree.
Take THAT you stupid hypersensitive people!
