As for Mao, he was a crazy psycho, but it's partly C.C.'s fault for being too close to him.. Either way, I think C.C. has experienced many betrayals in her life so I'd say she's the least likely person to go out of her way to betray another person she knows. In Mao's case, there was no turning back for him so killing him actually relieved his pain.
