IOC may scrap international torch relay

IOC President Jacques Rogge says the Olympic body will consider whether to scrap the international leg of the protest-plagued Beijing torch relay.

Rogge says the matter will be considered by the International Olympic Committee's executive board on Friday, as a result of the anti-China protests targeting the relay.

He said he was "deeply saddened" by the violent protests in London and Paris and concerned about the upcoming torch relay in San Francisco....Link (http://au.news.yahoo.com/080323/2/168gd.html)

The whole meaning of the Olympics is international cooperation and well being..If the international leg of the torch relay is canceled then it will be the first time...Well since ever.

Then add that several world leaders are planning on skipping the opening ceremony in protest over china's involvement in Tibet I have to ask whats to be done?

What are your thoughts on the matter?

I think the olympics is a good and unifying tradition for the world as a whole. They do compete but it still puts very many countries together in one place, without it being a war.

Therefore it's sad if things like location is going to ruin it. For one China could try to be a bit more helping and cooperative, the rest of the world on the other hans should also respect a foreign country and it's stands. But most of the world disagrees with China in the way they govern themselves, because it's a way of governing that the world understood was wrong.

All in all, I guess China should cooperate a bit more, and understand other countries feelings towards this, and try to be a tid bit more helpfull. They should recognise the Olympics as a unifying tradition, that's not to be payed with...

China needs to chill the hell out. This is the olympics. It's a worldwide event where countries are supposed to come together and compete in a friendly way without starting a huge war.

I think that the protestors need to calm down. The Olympics is suppose to be a friendly competition in sports. The political dilemna with Tibet should not be associated with the Olympics.

The people that are disrupting the running of the torch are disrupting years of tradition. The pure thought of the relay being cancelled should show the seriousness of this issue. The runners should have a great time running with the torch. They shouldn't have to fear demonstrators jumping out of the crowd trying to stop the relay.
