I wonder just exactly what is Ishida's role in Bleach. I know the whole matching the teen stereo-type thing.
Ishida was almost as useless as Orahime when they were in Soul Society.
It was also confusing as to why Ishida followed Ichigo to go rescue Rukia. He is really not Ichigo's friend, why would he risk his life for Ichigo or Rukia, unless he had other motives for coming along. So far I don't see any motives.
Unless the Quincys has some magical hidden powers yet to be revealed that will change everything later, right now Ishida's role is undefined..

Ishida's role is the one that we see in most animes... The Sidekick! The person who is the second most powerful in the characters we have seen so far... And no he wasn't as useless as Orihime... His visit to soul society didn't have a good reason (at least thats what I thought) but it did have a plot twist to it... They showed the person (Mayuri) who was responsible for his grandfather's death! I guess we can follow the assumption that he followed Ichigo because he wanted to punish the shinigami that was responsible for his grandpa's death... Now in the manga Ishida lost his powers and was offered to get them back if he agrees to never associate with shinigami ever again in his life, thus we can expect that he'll help out Ichigo but from the shadows... When he does confront Ichigo I guess that they'll have on hell of a battle, then Ishida will realize that he what he did is wrong and will oppose his father again...
Z_blitz pretty much covered it .. other reason could be he just wanted to take revenge on evry deathgod.. o.O I think he got some feeling for Orihime too.. maybe he just wanted to look macho for her.. lol

He might feel like he owes Ichigo. After all Ichigo certainly believed that he owed Ishida.

Watch Ishida end up being evil. I bet it's gonna happen after his father makes him One Winged Angelish again.
Somehow, I have the feeling that Ishida's father will have a "bond" to Ishida's powers - knowing what Ishida does, but Ishida will continue to help Ichigo, until Ishida (typing name too many times) is found out and the father will tell Ishida that if he doesn't want to die or lose his powers (again) then he will have to kill Ichigo, but then... (blah, blah, blah...I'm too lazy to continue speculating)

Ishid's dad is gonna beat him up after he helps ichigo( which is inevitable)
i preferred ishida when he hated ichigo and stuff..in soul society he was like a punk
well...if he passes that limit...he will fight ichigo ...and whoever loses...their pops will take their position..then the fight continue..killing both quincies..just joking..but they are gogin to fight

I don't think Ishida will ever turn evil. And I think his
true powers are yet to be seen. I'm sure him and his father
will have a big role in the stories ahead. Atleast affect them in some way.
Ishida will probably help ichigo again as well, He dosn't seem like a backstabber.

I think that its quite likely that there will be a face down between Ishida and either his dad or another Shinigame. He will not stay out of the action, and I think that one of the Arrancar will go after him and his dad, and a Shinigame will save them or at least help.

i am guessing that uryuu will help ichigo and co. later on in the manga then ryuuken [is that uryuus fathers name?... maybe i am wrong...] will find out and makes uryuu fight ichigo or some other main character shinigami to prove his loyalty to his father or keep that promise to have nothing to do with shinigami or some crap like that... i also agree with fariswheel, an arankaru will probably come after uryuu and his father but i doubt that they will be the main targets of the arankaru dudes

Actually I wondered if Ishida's dad has good reasons to want him to disassociate with the shinigamis. Could he be protecting him?
Oh think Ishida and father can most likely be able to kill arrancans
Ishida's new powers could probably be super powerful if like what his dad says that his o_O! already quite powerful skills in SS was nothing much.
LOL abt his new powers I'm imagining Quincy with shinigami katana or Quincy-hollow hybrid *juz joking*

Didn't Ishida say that his intention of going to SS was because he wouldn't accept being defeated by Renji and the other shinigamis? He probably wanted to show the shinigami the power of a quincy, and he sure did nearly killing a captain.
Ishida will become an Arrancy (Quincy/hollow hybrid)

I think Ishida's role is similar to vegeta's role in dbz. To work hard and step out of the main characters shadow, and to prove his worth, as the prince of all saiya...I mean quincys..

ishida will get his powers back, and probably disassociate with the shinigami for a time
but things are about to get so crazy that he and possibly his dad as well, aren't going to be able to ignore it

well like someone said, ishida WAS NOT COMPLETELY USELESS:eek13: and .... I don't have anything to add... about his role... >.>'' well now that he's trying to regain them...(with his byakuya-feel dad) I have no clue what he'll do with his new powers, or whether he would gain them back, but he will most likely help ichigo again in SOME way or another...... and then desert his dad? ;P

Hello! :)
I am not entirely sure what is up with Ishida's father but his father can not completely keep Ishida away from Ichigo and the rest of the SS. Ishida is already a part of everything. Ishida may be a target for Aizen someday. Mayuri I am sure still wants to get Ishida back too. So Ishida will be brought back into the SS action. Now I don't think that Ishida will want to stay away anyway. Ichigo and the rest are his friends.
I hope that Ishida will get an even more powerful bow and arrow. I also hope he gets back the power to keep fighting even if he is near death. I believe that Ishida should become the Quincy equal to Ichigo's Shinigami. Ishida is not and never was useless.
Now here is point to remember. When Ishida and Ichigo joined their spiritual energies they were more powerful. It makes me wonder if that will come into play again.

You make a good point about Aizen possibly targeting Ishida.
Also, Ishida still has a score to settle with Mayuri. I think that it is just as likely that Mayuri will try to track Ishida down as it is that Ishida will hunt Mayuri down.
What part of Georgia are you from, BTW?

I was actually wondering the same thing...but Ishida doesn't seem too suspicious at all...I bet his original intentions on going to Soul Society changed along the way when he realized his friendship with the group...
Maybe when he went back and realized that there were dangers all around and he can't do anything about it, he kinda felt useless, so that maybe the reason why he wanted to revive his powers in any way possible...

Was he really useless? Didn't he own a captain? I think he was way more useful than Orihime.
among all the ppl that had followed Ichigo excluding Yoruichi, Ishida is probaly the strongest after Ichigo n the wekast is Inoue
Hollow_Man_ct

yes, but you must admit that Inoue's determination to protect Ichigo towered over all the party that followed Ichigo and her intentions were the purest and most simple : Protect Ichigo and save Ichigo's friend (I won't say Rukia cause All Inoue cared about was making Ichigo happy), also if she hadn't healed Ichigo after his fight with aizen and Byakuya he would have surely remained longer in the sick bed.

hmm i dont think he has this feeling any more(stronger than ichigo)!!
gaining his powers back was only his matter at that time!!
i really liked when his dad told him that he had mizerable little strength.

I can't believe people are saying that Inoue was useless. OK granted she was not the strongest. But she WAS the teams MEDIC and she did lead Captain Zaraki to rescue Ishida, Ganjyu and Chado. Besides if it weren't for Inoue they might've even not make it to SS as she did stop the cleaner in that tunnel for a moment.
As for Ishida joining. I think he wanted to prove his worth against the Shinigami in name of the Quincy. Either that or he was happy to finally have some people talking to him.
Yeah, Ishida was a loner, and Ichigo taught him a bit about values and such. Also, it was beautiful when Ishida saved Ichigo, so there you have it. Ishida's role in Bleach is to become Ichigo's lifepartner. It is all so sweet!! (seriously, I do hope the two of them get together in the end).

Actually I'm starting to think that Ishida might be even more Powerful then Ichigo (Yes even with his Bankai) but maybe not so sure about Hollow Ichigo cause if you remeber he litteraly broke apart the spirtual bonds of the Buildings that were in Soul Society, so I think we only got a very LIGHT taste of what Ishida can really do
Caesar
03-15-2006, 10:35 AM
yep, thats true!!!!
even if ishida had become so powerfull before loosing his powers his father should be more powerful and ishida will follow!!

Ishida is like the oppsoite of ichigo, their father are both doctors and they both want to succed in becoming strong.

Ishida would be in no way stronger than Ichigo even in shikai form, but when he removed the glove maybe he became on equal footing with him.. but not stronger.

hmmm, we cant really tell!!!
although mayuri had a bankai he didnt really focused on power rather than killing the enemy or massing around!! anyway this situation is given from the very start, they dont show us their clear power in order to get more suspence, in guessing!!

Ishida will probably slow become indoctrinated by his father, or at least he will show as such on the outside. They will basically stay away from the Shinigami as if existing in their own little world. Eventually an Arrancar will target them, because despite masking their reiatsu they've still got enough leaking out that the Arrancar find them to be a threat.
At this point Ishida realizes the gravity of the situation, gets disowned by pops for his undying demand to be able to go help Ichigo and the others.
Later on the Grumpy Old Man gets attacked by Arrancar, gets owned, is saved just a little too late by Ichigo/Ishida and his dying words are "Freakin' Shinigami." Yep, pops refuses to learn a lesson, sign of a true badass.
