After one ep. I don't feel that lost in the story.

Yea, the original Macross is an epic classic and I enjoyed it. The movie "Do you know remember love" was pretty good too although a bit different than the actual series. I am very much looking forward to Macross Frontier.

Macross Plus and 7 are kinda just remakes that really don't do it justice. The OVAs Macross Zero were alright though.

I might check it out, but considering I am not much of a mecha fan, I am not totally sure if ill like it. I mean, I can handle Code Geass, but I didnt enjoy the 15 or so episodes I saw of Gundam SEED that much.

Well eternal, like all anime just because it is the same type doesn't mean its gonna be the same.

I was never a Mecha watcher either until I saw the original Macross, Eureka Seven and Code Geass. If Macross Frontier is gonna be anything like the original Macross it should be good and by good I mean much different than Gundam.

Well, I loved Eureka Seven, Full Metal Panic, and Code Geass, and even though it is different, I also liked TTGL. Neon Genesis Evangelion sucked, but it wasnt because of the mecha. Im not into the traditional serious mecha series, I love when it is just a secondary part of the show. I am not discrediting Macross, but it seems to be a serious military space opera type a lot like Gundam. Ill watch the first episode and se how it is.

Well, if you ever get the chance you should watch the original macross and the movie do you remember love. It is one of the greatest classics in anime and new macross series that have followed it have yet to live up to it so we will see how Macross Frontier turns out.

Gundam is action with political intrigue, Macross is much more story driven and conceptual with some awesome action scenes thrown in.

So episode 4 of Macross Frontier is out and I find myself stunned and appalled that this thread is on the third page of the forum. So far in my opinion Macross Frontier is by far the best anime of this season and I cant believe that no one has felt the need to comment on or discuss it.

With that said Ranka is cute as hell.

Saotome is a great character and the whole thing with him coming from a family famous for its kabuki is an interesting twist.

The two kids from alto's school are just awesome, I have a feeling either Mikhail or Luca will end up as my favorite before the series is over. They were really explored a bit more in the fourth episode.

And now we have giants that turn into chibi's and it actually makes a small degree of sense. And its funny.

What else can I say, great graphics, plot, and characters. More of you should watch it immediately.

I was a big fan of the original Macross that and the movie that was made in the early 80's.

I like the similarities they have in frontier to the original such as ranka singing one of the classic Lynn Minmay songs "my boyfriend is a pilot" and the zentradi and meltrans, although they were the bad guys.

Again, I recommend anybody to watch the original especially since it would clarify some of the more subtle things in this new series. The only problem I have with this series is it isn't as dark in terms of art style and such like the original and the movie, it's a lot more flamboyant espeically with the Zentradi and Meltrans having pointy ears and such.

The whole point of Macross Frontier is to be accessible to the masses who haven't seen the original macross. You don't need to have seen it at all. The art style is a thousand times better than the old one and that dark style is present during the battles and the character's are more interesting as well. In four episode's its already trumped the old one as an anime. On top of that they are using the earlier show as almost a back story revealing bits of it each episode so it might even be more enjoyable if you haven't seen the old one.

Well, sometimes I like the old-dated art style like in Gundam Wing and older shows but that is just me and so far it hasn't been better than the old one but that is just my opinion. (it hasn't been worse either)

You don't have to watch the old one to get into the new one and I never said you did only that it would give you some background on the more subtle things in the anime.

So what exactly happened in the recent episode? Did they go out for training and then encounter some monster that killed many in the past, but the Kanda-looking character newbie was aggressively able to kill it for the idol participant girl? As you can see i dont know there names too well :)

Well, the Vajra are a new monster we know little about and they are a secret to the general public of frontier and many were killed by them but it was released to the public as an de-fold accident which is a hyperspace/teleport system they use for interstellar travel.

Other than that, yes you are right they went out for trainning and encountered a Vajra while ranka was in the miss macross pageant and he was forced to leave for trainning and they encountered it.

Well, so far there I have noticed a lot of parallels to the original macross especially when Alto first rescues ranka and when they get trapped.

Music always played a part in the Macross series and I don't think it's because ranka is a princess or anything but because of her songs especially if they are using parallels to the original.

Hoho a fight how lovely I cant believe i didn't see this sooner. Let us begin shall we.

First of all someone going from a position of power to a weaker position is just as stereotypical as the more common rags to riches and while is is a bit refreshing at times it normally ends up with them gradually once again making there way up the food chain. (a la worst anime ever: Soul Eater.) I think an anime that ended with someone losing it all would feel unfinished unless you'd been brought along to despise the protagonist or the main character had always hoped for a more simple life. So in the end I'd just rather have a well done rags to riches story then an overly complex riches to rags story that ends up turning into the exact same thing.

As for anime's this season that are better than soul eater. I personally like The daughter of twenty faces, Nabari no Ou, Kure-nai, Druaga, Code Geass R2, and Macross Frontier more than Soul Eater. I even like Vampire Knight more as terrible as that show is. I think its one of the worst anime's to come out in a long time and all the support that it has garnered utterly disgusts me.

Also as you don't even know my age and attacked my post merely because I attacked yours despite the fact that not only was your initial post a one liner but that it didn't really help along the conversation at all except to provide an inane example that devoid of a supporting opinion had no meaning I believe that you sir whatever your age may be, is the one who's emotional age is most easily readable.

I don't think that's the official new opening. I think that's just for that episode. I'm pretty sure the new opening is by May'n (Sheryl) not Megumi Nakajima (Ranka)

And I don't hate Ranka. Mainly because everyone else hates her. I often like the more hated characters and dislike really popular characters. Though I don't exactly like Ranka either. I'm just netrual. But I am addicted to the Nyan Nyan song

The speculation about Michael dying (going on in both MW and Chinese BBS) comes from the synopsis in 21 where it talks about people losing love ones and Alto and Luka being mad in episode 22. This = Michael eating pineapple salad is a bit of a stretch.

Once again, the synopsis for MF have a long and honored tradition of being grossly incomplete, so I recommend people not read too much into it and just enjoy the ride.

well ive been wondering for a while if this anime is good so i decided to see it and i must say im impressed being a big robotech fan and after having all the episodes from macross to latest movie im pretty happy about this especially since those other macross spin offs sucked.

If nobody dies death is cheap. Why get concerned about a character no matter what limb they go out on if nobody can die?

Getting rid of Cheryl would be a rather large step - That is if she isn't cured by the little guys corporation or anything.

Other than that, this show doesn't have terribly many characters that can die and have it really impact. They've focused on a small group, which doesn't need to be immortal either.

They can slaughter Brera Stern and give Alto his rifle :lol

So, Brera Stern and Ranka flying off to find the Vajra. I get the feeling while Brera has these "unknown" sentiments for Ranka, there is a deeper plot for going to the Vajra. Grace clearly has some sort of binding power over Brera so I don't think it's too much of a stretch to think that there is a reason he simply goes. Then again, from the short flashbacks we've seen it's become apparent that Brera was/is Ranka's older brother or something like it. It's not a very insightful guess, but he'll probably end up sacrificing himself for her at some point or another. I definitely want to see some more about her past.

SMS learns about the truth behind the devastation of the 117th fleet. It seems that the fate of Ranka's family and how she ended up under Ozma's care was also engineered by Grace. Elsewhere the military command of Frontier has decided to put and end to the Vajra

25 Anata no oto

A fierce struggle with the Vajra occur. Battle frontier has taken damage and the residential Island One is being invaded. At that moment a human silhouette is projected on the recently created stage on the Bridge.

- Alto is a captain now and a couple of his men are asking if he's going out with Sheryl, then Sheryl waving at him while they're on a mission
- Alto and Sheryl cooking and eating together (Sheryl uses chopsticks like a fork). She stays at Alto's place, or wherever the hell they are
- Brera and Ranka run into Bajura, Ranka sings Aimo, Ranka recollects more of her memories, then the Bajura attack them
- Big long conversation between Leon, Bilrer, and Alto about Ranka and Bajura
- Brera and Ranka escape. Ranka jumps off the VF when she see Ai-kun, Ai-kun suddenly takes Ranka away, she finally realizes Brera is her brother
- Brera is fighting a bunch of Bajura, only to run into Grace who tells him who he is, only to mindwipe him
- More talk about Sheryl's condition. Apparently she's refusing medicine in order to make her fold waves stronger
- Alto sees his dad at the hospital, and runs into that guy whose eyes are always closed. He gives another lecture to Alto and even opens his eyes
- Ranka remembers everything with Grace watching
- It looks like Alto finally made a choice:
Alto: So if Ranka becomes a tool for the Bajura and her song will destroy us all... I'll.. kill her.
Klan: Alto... is that your love?
Alto: (no response)
Sheryl (eavesdropping/shedding a tear): I knew. But for now, just a little bit longer...
*throws a wrinkled paper airplane, which falls after a few seconds*
- Episode ends with Frontier reaching the planet Ranka and Brera saw, big battle next episode.
