I've come across something horrible. See images below.

I don't know what the deal with benzene (C6H6) is within anime, so I can only assume it's a huge conspiracy.

Please enlighten me/find out more about the conspiracy and other animes that might be involved.

GASP!! The Benzene Ring in SZS is missing a double bond!!!

It gives everyone cancer, they die, the end.

But really, its most likely a coincidence. They just used benzene cause its popular, and drawing the chemical structures is sort of badass I guess.

DEAR GOD YOU ARE RIGHT!

Coincidence eh...

Here's a theory:

After a much too unexciting second half of SZS season 1, and the continuation of the unexcitingness in season 2, the creators decided that they needed to do something about the unexcitingness. Since Suzumiya Haruhi is widely regarded as the most ununexciting series of 2006, the SZS people decided to scan Suzumiya Haruhi for what made it so ununexciting. The answer, as we now know, is the addition of the Benzene Ring. In the final attempt to make SZS ununexciting, the creators decided to include the Benzene Ring as the show's savior. To avoid breaking the laws of copyright and plagarism (omg plagarism is flagged in the spell check), the SZS people decided to remove a double bond between the 6 carbon atoms.

Also, not only did they mimic the Benzene Ring, as you can see from the Haruhi screen cap, the word Universe was used in an equation in the upper right corner. The creators of SZS saw that too, and decided to turn that equation into the background, resulting in the sky with stars.

Will this final attempt at ununexcitingness succeed? Find out on the next episode of SZS2.

GASP!! The Benzene Ring in SZS is missing a double bond!!!

Technically its not alternating sigle and double bonds because of the equal sharing of electrons, but they would need one more double bond to show the stability of the ring.

Its just a coincidence though, if I were to draw a molecule on my show, its most likely what I would do too.

I don't think it's a coincidence, since SZS tends to bring up topics in pop culture and make fun of them, they might have noticed the equation in the opening of TMoHS, and, as they did with the Death Note parody in episode 3, they decided to make a parody of it. The real question is, why Benzene is used in the MoHS opening.

The real question is, why Benzene is used in the MoHS opening.

That's easy to explain. The Benzene Ring is consisted of double bonds, many carbon atoms, many hydrogen atoms, and a ring structure. On top of that, it's arguably one of the easiest chemical structures to draw. They could've chosen something like Methane, or Ethane, but they're simple and boring. They could also drop something much more complex like say.. a carbohydrate, but that's hard to draw. So, from the best of both worlds, we get the Benzene Ring.

Gibb's free energy equation or the entropy equation would've been much cooler tho :P

^^ Thats why I say coincidence. Benzene has nothing to do with anything, its just a simple compound to draw that still looks somewhat cool (rings are fun!). Even if SZS is making a parody of SHnY for using it, there most likely wasnt any motive behind the use of them using benzene in the first place.

Maybe both creators had fetishes for Benzene Rings? :P

Not a benzene ring. It's clearly C6H5•ligand-H as there is only 5 C-H bonds. The top H is held by a hydrogen bond(being an intermolecular bond, is not normally represented in structural diagrams), not a covalent bond.

I'd be impressed if they whipped out something like the Taylor Series. f(x)=f(a)+f^' (a)(x-a)+(f^'' (a))/2! 〖(x-a)〗^2+(f^((3)) (a))/3! 〖(x-a)〗^3+⋯(f^((n)) (a))/n! 〖(x-a)〗^n

Oh puh-lease. Taylor series is sooooooooooooo overrated :P

Heres a theory: you spelled "plagiarism" wrong and something is trying to tell you to fix it to avoid looking stupid :)

Ohhh handled! ;)

But yeah. My search for benzene will go on. I refuse to believe there's no deeper meaning behind this.

I swear ive seen chemical drawings in other anime too, but I forget where. If we are talking conspiracy, then Welcome to the NHK might not be a bad place to look. They might have used it too, who knows.

All they used were talking puddings, talking furniture, talking teapots, and PURURIN :P

OMG, and now I just had a stroke of genius.... talking Benzene Rings!!
