Well I while back after I started watching the first season, I found out that CG was coming to the States soon. Like the majority of animes this one has gotten a Dub.
IGN preview (http://anime.ign.com/articles/868/868968p1.html)
The link has two clips of the english version of CG.
The first is Lelouch's first use of the geass, the second is Suzaku's first time in Lancelot.
Like ive said on previous anime's the VA choices are well misplaced...
Lelouch's VA is Johnny Yong Bosch, the guy who does Ichigo in the Dubs. He's not a bad VA but im not impressed.
Suzaku's VA is Yuri Lowenthal, he does Sasuke in the Dubs....
Just wante to share this with you all.
if yuo want to hen discuss.
EDIT: Dx i forgot the second r in the "Horrors" for the title.

I had heard this somewhere, and was under the impression lelouch had down syndrome, or just smoked copious amounts of pot. Not that voices should perfectly mimic the Japanese, but eh...closer would be nice.

Amg , Ichigo's voice = Lelouch's voice. What the heck did they ran out of Voice Actors?
Not to mention it doesn't suit him. At all.

Wow. Lelouch sounds like a pussy.
Suzaku's voice isn't so bad, though. But given the character Lelouch is, his voice should not sound like that at all.
As I said before, Suzaku and Clovis are okay.
Lelouch = :facepalm:
We might be in luck. It might be someone else, like the VA's used for Death Note were different than the ones used in the DN trailers.
We'll find out in a couple days. Saturday night is when the first dub episode airs.

After 3 days back to back I finished all of Code Geass season 1.........and Lelouch's voice...... why? Wtf is wrong with you Bandai, did you even bother watching the dam anime before you casted the actors? Truly a horror indeed......he sounds.....weak.....character-wise......and we all know Lelouch is anything BUT weak. And his voice sounds kinda....pitchy.....it's not deep or low sounding at all.....suppose to have a half evil half innocent tone to it.......disappointed but not surprised at the horrible job

The only one I didn't like is Lelouch. The other characters sounded fine, I think. I look forward to watching Saturday. Is it airing on adult swim?

C.C. was ruined D:
Is it true that in the dub they took out all of the "Yes, My Lord" parts?
Oh. I didn't see the trailers here. I heard some somewhere else. So maybe I saw different ones. Geez. That would suck if they took out that catchphrase.

It's "Happily, my lord" in the dub.
Lelouch may take some time getting used too, I think I'll be able to tolerate everyone else. Still haven't heard Kallen though....
It's "Happily, my lord" in the dub.
:Haha WTF. That's lame. It doesn't sound like a soldier at all. I haven't heard C.C.'s voice yet. I'll have to check out those two trailers I think.

...?
This is why I hate dubs. I didn't like all of their voices especially Lelouch. When these Anime get dubbed, I prefer not to call them anime anymore... just cartoons.
My mistake, It's actually "Happily, your highness".
That's even worse!

Ah, good. I wont have to tape it now to see it.
Edit: I just finished watching it. The soldiers still say "Yes, my Lord" on the battlefield they changed it when the leader of the army unit is talking to Lelouch to "Happily, your Highness." (instead of "Yes, your Highness" when Lelouch first uses the Geass and order them to kill themselves.
Why is it so often the voices of the main characters are bad, but the supporting characters are okay? Clovis was good, Rivalez was good, too. Cecelia was okay, Diethard was passable. But Count Lloyd was all wrong, Kallen is all wrong, and Lelouch is wrong too. Jeremiah could have been better. Just Ugh!

>_>
that was terible the only voices that were ok IMO were Clovis and Jeremiah
wonder why they didnt sub the intro song....
At least they left the opening whole and didn't try to shorten it to add another commercial in. They did cut the ending down.
Speaking of subbing intro songs, I saw Death Note on Adult Swim and they subbed the opening (they're on the second one). They actually tried to give a translation for the chorus, which if you don't remember was
"Hey Hey human sucker"
A-- A human f***er!"
several times
And they wrote a completely fake translation so they wouldn't have to write "f***er", even though it's sung in English. -.-
I watched an episode of Bleach dub last week and they completely changed the ending visuals. Right now they're on the Yui ending, but they're just showing static pictures of the Gotei, Ichigo, and company. No Rukia sitting an hugging her knees, looking sad, ect.

Viz probably wasn't able to acquire the rights to the appropriate outro, just the song.
If it had been the other way around it would make sense (they have the visuals, not the song) but to get the rights to the show, and not the ending animation? :eek13:

I don't know, just thought of it as a possibility. They did a similar thing with Naruto when they first started using the "Haruka Kanata" theme.
Wow, Lelouch's voice SUCK!!
Oh well, it airs tomorrow night... I'll watch it, but I'm not optimistic.

Yeah, Lelouch sounds like a gangster-wannabe. Where's his diabolical commanding voice?

F**K YEAH! That is exactly my problem with the dub.

I mainly watched the first episode because I'm a Jonny Yong Bosch fan, but I did notice his voice doesn't really fit the role. I'll probably still continue to watch it though.

dunno, I personally like J.Y.B. And as far as it goes, hes not just lelouch and ichigo, he's also kiba from wolf's rain and vash from trigun. He's typecast as male lead material.

Two voices I don't particularly like, those are Lelouch's and Kallen's voices. ;_; My favorites characters and their voices don't suite them.
Well, the dub aired. Lelouch's voice wasn't THAT bad (as I had previously thought), but it's certainly far from good.

He's also the Black Mighty Morphin Power Ranger, and the Green Zeo and Turbo Rangers. Thought I would throw those 2 in. :p It's the main reason I'm a big fan of his.

I was old enough that I never watched power rangers... but I was aware he was in them. he also has a band that he's the lead singer of.... but this is getting us off topic.
other than the voices being a little off. I dislike the way all anime is immediately cleaned up and cut back to 13-15 range... Americans still dont get that
animated dors not always = a show for kids

Which is why this particular anime airs on a network for older audiences, and airs at 1:30 in the morning. I don't recall seeing any cuts either....

Code geass has better dubs compared to some other animes, bleach had pretty crappy dubs too.

Hmm, well I think it's a difficult task finding the right voice actors to portray all of the different characters. Anyway, I don't think Bleach's dub is really that bad, save for a few characters, and for some reason I've begun to prefer some of the dub voices of Code Geass the original Japanese ones. I guess part of the preference depends on which one you like better. For example, when I watched DBZ, I had gotten so used to the American voices that when my friend showed me one of the Japanese voices, I got really annoyed.

I don't know , it's probably due to me having used hearing Lelouch's Japanese voice , but I cannot understand why you like his dubbed. It just...doesn't suit him. Really.

I don't know, I haven't watched enough of the Japanese anime to get used to it, so if I do, maybe then it'll grow on me. When I started watching Bleach, I didn't notice how bad some of the voices were until I listened to the Japanese, and originally I didn't like the Japanese voices. Depending on whatever you view first, I think your preferences will then follow.
I haven't been keeping up with dubs, but I've just seen the latest dub episode.
It SUCKS. It went from OK to bad... seriously. I didn't notice this before, but I hate Nunally's english voice. Today, the episode introduced Euphie, whose voice I also detest.
I still haven't gotten used to Lelouch's voice, although it's not that bad.
Everyone else's was mediocre AT MOST. This dub fails in my book.
I just saw the latest dub, and while I don't have a script in my hand, I'm pretty sure they changed significant amounts of dialog.
Viletta's voice was okay, though. But why the F does Count Lloyd have an English accent?

I guess it's to make him sound a bit wittier and wiser than the rest of the characters. I don't like how they stuck with keeping C.C.'s name as C-2 in the dub. It sounds a little off. There are a few voices that are pretty bad, but overall I think this dub is pretty good. Not all voices are going to be cast perfectly, you know. I finally caught up with the subs though, and do agree that most of the characters do sound better with their Japanese voices. At least I finally figured out the significance of orange in the dub though, after watching the dubbed version. For some reason I missed it while watching the sub, and was pretty puzzled through the rest of season one.

But isn't that how it's supposed to be pronounced? :eek13:
But isn't that how it's supposed to be pronounced? :eek13:
That is a good point. C-2 and si-tsu are phonetically closer than C.C. and si-tsu, and C.C. sounds like Cici, which is an actual name, so you don't have Lelouch saying it "isn't even a name" at the cave scene.

dubbed in general is just wrong, the origianlity of the anime is completely lost on voices that just don't match the characters !!!!
*walks away from dubbed anime with dismay*
Not all dubs are like that. Some do a very good job matching up to the original characters' sound and mannerisms.

Ugh, I can't watch any more of the damn dub. I just can't take it seriously, everyone sounds like someone from another anime, and those voices are so out of place. =/
Lulu's VA (JYB) overdoes his lines. XD

True, like the FMA dub (which is actually significantly better than the sub, and feels more like the characters should sound from the manga), Death Note (catches all their insanity perfectly) and alot of the ADV titles (Welcome to the NHK, Kurau: Phantom Memory).
Bandai is usually bad at casting, tbh, and they only pick mainstream bastards (JYB was the main character in both their biggest newer titles), so I didn't expect much from CG, but dayum, they fudged it up quite rotten, if I do say so myself.
^I agree; FMA dubs are cool and Death Note dubs are just damn awesome. Code Geass dubs, on the other hand, just fails miserably, especially the female voices.

Because they either sound incredibly unnatural (Revi from Black Lagoon), or they all sound the same. xD

Sorry. I thought Death Note's dub was Fail. Light's VA choice was the main problem. I haven't heard NHK's.

I didn't like Dutch's English VA. He sounded too young and... well, not deep enough for a guy Dutch's size.

.... dubs.... while very few are actually decent now. Its like they've fallen in quality or the fact that I mainly try to watch subs now. Maybe subs have corrupted people xd
From what I've heard dubs have been getting much better in recent years, mostly because the fans are being more picky about it. I think this is from the original Japanese audio being easier to aquire now so more people are able to compare the two. Back in the VHS times it was one audio track per tape, and getting fansubs wasn't so easy.
I believe the issue is more that the licensors aren't doing enough auditioning and looking for new talent. It's becoming a little like Hollywood movies, where you pick an actor for his star power rather than if they're really cut out for the role. So there's a dozen or so names like Johnny Yong Boush getting lots of roles, because he's known in the dub audience group for doing Ichigo in Bleach, not because he can really match the character he's playing better than someone else. Not that he's a bad voice actor. :) Just there are some types of roles any actor plays better than others.
