Hello,
I am very sorry to trouble the members of this forum.
A very good friend of mine is missing. In the weeks prior to his disappearance, he become obsessed with "Bleach" and apparently visited many forums - possibly befriended other members with whom he shared personal information.
His name is Kevin. He was a student at the University of Maryland, College Park. Very artistic and kind - he is/was a wonderful person in general.
His family and friends are crushed at his sudden disappearance and have launched a large-scale investigation. So far, we have no leads.
If anyone has any information regarding Kevin or someone you know who fits this description, please message me. (Ideas are also more than welcome) Time is absolutely critical.
Thank you in advance for your concern and consideration.
Note: I apologize if this note has been posted on the wrong board. Mods, please feel free to move into the appropriate section.

I am sorry to hear that.
It's kinda difficult. Most people don't know each other by name - we use usernames.
Do you mabye have an idea what username he could have picked?

Unfortunately, no. He erased his computer before he disappeared and forensics won't look at it. The investigators are being particularly unhelpful, which is why I've resorted to desperately posting on forums and websites. :(

Do you know what his IP address was? If so, it can be searched for by the admins (i think)

I hate to say it but unless we have a username or IP address, or even an approximate join date, there's not a whole lot that can be done. There are too many members on this forum to find someone without at least one of the above mentioned things.

sorry but we're running on air with this one. We're gonna need more info or else we really can't do a whole lot. I live in CT so that's not too far from maryland (6 hours give or take) so I'll keep a watch on the news and report anything regarding the case ok?

well if he erased his computer before he disappeared that seems awfully suspicious....
but yea, get us the IP address of his computer and we can tell you if he was a member here or not :)

I'll assume this is real and wish you the best of luck in finding him.
Erased his computer? If you mean formatted his hard drives, then they should be recoverable, but if he DBANed them then you are screwed either way.
But without a username it is hard for us to do anything.
P.S. I'm back after a long reprieve at NF. ;)

Tip on getting his possibly last used IP:
Plug a computer directly into his modem (cable or whatever, NOTE: if he used a linksys router or something similar in between his computer and his internet router then unplug the cable from the internet port and directly into you're laptop/computer)
In Windows XP:
1. Open Network Connections (if you know how then skip to step #7)
2. Right click on the desktop and click properties
3. Click the Desktop tab and then click the button that says, "Customize Desktop..."
4. Check the box that says "My Network Places" and then click ok until you see the desktop to save the settings.
5. On the desktop you will see and icon that says "My Network Places"
6. Right click on it and click properties
7. You will see an icon that says "Local Area Connection", double click on it
8. Click the Support tab
9. Post the number that is next to "IP Address:" which will be in the format of X.X.X.X where each 'X' is a number between 0 and 255.
If you have any questions then please post and I will be happy to answer them.
