So a month has passed since the beginning of the new season and certainly enough time for us to evaluate which are the keepers and which ones are the losers, so here I ask, which ones do you consider your favourite this season?
Here are mines, in no particular order:
Code Geass
Macross Frontier
Chico
Soul Eater
Nabari no Ou
Notable mention: Amatsuki, Druaga
Most disappointing show: Crystal Blaze, Himitsu

Top 5, thats a little hard to tell this early on. Well, im not going to say Code Geass, cause sequels dont count as new anime imo. Although its definitely in my top 5, maybe favorite of the season.
Top 5 no order.
Nabari no Ou - ninja anime = the win. Love it, miles ahead of Naruto imo
Soul Eater - The next Bleach, this is made of action shounen win
Kure-nai - Best "serious" series of the season, really interesting story, and I love the mystery behind it. The girl is so cute too.
Vampire Knight - atmosphere, this anime has it. Seen up to episode 4, but there isnt a whole lot of story yet. I like it so far.
xxxHolic Kei - This is one of those situational anime, so I watch it when im in the mood for it. Loved the first season, am loving this one. Started off strong with a good story arc.
Honorable mentions (in order)
Amatsuki -I love Edo (?) time period stories, especially with samurai and the town and such. The last episode I saw kicked the story into gear, but I cant tell if its going to be amazing or subpar. This has the potential to be one of my favorties this season.
Allison and Lillia - probably the most unappreciated anime this season imo, I think the story is strong, and I can definitely feel the tension.
Macross Frontier - Liking it so far, but its not really my type of anime. More of a samurai/ninja fan, so this one isnt a list topper imo.
Special A - Fun, reminds me of a 2nd rate Ouran though. I cant tell yet, but I would like to see how the relationship between the main characters go.
Itazura no Kiss - Subpar all around, but something keeps me watching it. I dont know how much longer ill watch it, but like I said there is just something about it that keeps me from dropping it.
Badness/dissapointments (in order)
Monochrome Factor - The idea would be great for a shounen title, but the animation and art are terrible for an 08 anime. Story is boring, and Shirogane is a bit fruity. I am really close to dropping it, if episode 4 doesnt pick up the pace im probably dropping it.
Kamen no Maid Guy - The 2 episodes I saw were hilarious, but I dont know if I will continue right yet. Not really an attention grabber imo.
Zettai Karen Children - Now I saw one episode of this, and it was just utterly terrible. No redeeming qualitites, and is as cheesy as a magical girl type anime can get. I hated it.
Golgo 13 - cant get any worse, first episode was atrocious.
No comments/forget what the first episode was about cause thats all I saw of them
The Daughter of 20 Faces (Chico) - Looked ok, dont remember too much though
Druaga - saw first ep, it was alright, then the 2nd episode was ok too. Dont know yet whether I will continue, maybe when its finished.
To Love Ru
Wagaya no Oinari-sama
Kaiba - wierd, but im going to give it another shot
Damn, ive seen a lot of them so far. Havent seen Crystal Blaze of Himitsu however.

1. Itazura na Kiss - there's nothing better than good shoujo
2. xxxHolic - a close second
3. Wagaya no Oinari-sama - very enjoyable
4. Chico - quite interesting
5. everything else
watching series with a strong continuous storyline week by week is just too painful.

I agree, storylines are impossible for me to remember when it takes 6 months to watch the series. Especially more involved ones like Code Geass or Kure-nai.

Macross Frontier
Vampire Knight
Code Geass
Nabari no Ou
Amatsuki? the other 4 are a bit above everything else.
Most other shows I see-saw back and forth with my opinion, they don't seem very stable. Wagaya no Oinara-sama is rather enjoyable for an honorable mention though

4 - RD Sennou
3 - Kure~nai

watching series with a strong continuous storyline week by week is just too painful.
i have considered all the comedy but i didn't include any of them coz there aren't any particular one that stands out. kyouran started out good but it got a bit annoying lately. kamen no maid is just on a shitty budget and ruined it, to-love-ru is killed by fillers, kanokon is just 'overinflated'.
the top 5 i put are the ones that i know i'll watch right away after i grab them, instead of letting them sit for some time like kurenai for instance.
another runner up for the top 5 is penguin musume heart, it's too damn short but it's friggin hilarious. very enjoyable.

Macross F
Soul Eater
Vampire Knight
Amatsuki
Notable mentions; Nabari no Ou, Itazura na Kiss, Kure-nai
How many episodes of Himitsu have you seen now Kenta?
I don't know how many have aired but Animanda has only subbed the first two so, while I haven't been to impressed so far, I think it's a bit early to judge Himitsu. But maybe you're seen raws of later episodes.
Edit: Spoke too soon. Episode 3 came out today.
Edit2: Anyone going to weigh in on Allison & Lillia besides Etenalmetal?

Its so underrated, makes me sad. From the episodes I have seen, it is off to an excellent start. I have seen people bored by the first episode and dropping it because of all the conversation, but it adds development and feeling to the series. I have a feeling this anime will turn pretty epic.
One episode is not enough time for any anime. But there is a limit on how long is too long for building basic storyline. I'd say anyting more than the first 3-4 epsodes before the series is comfortably running at it's normal pace is excessive.

I remember seeing a handful of anime that took until the 10th or 12th episode to start getting good. Bleach being one of them, but if its a 24 ep anime, then it should get going by about the 4th episode.

Seems about right. Nothing too special this Spring season, although most are pretty solid and interesting so far. What does strike me is the lack of votes for xxxHolic. With the background already provided in season 1, season 2 has been doing a great job of what it does best.

I dont care if an anime gets a cult following or anything, I think that there are anime this season that I will enjoy equally as much as I did TTGL. I still think its too early to tell, but thats just me. I think Soul Eater will be another top shounen people will talk about a lot.

To be honest, I almost always rate anime based on entertainment. Its the reason why I started watching, so I dont see why it should stop.
My list hasnt changed much, I have been really ehind on the new anime. Now that summer has come, so has more chores, work, and responsibility. Although collee work was busy,I probably had more jerky computer time to watch the new anime, lol.
I hear Soul Eater is coming along well, and ive been pretty impressed with Vampire Knight so far, It just has me hooked.

You know, previously I was turned off by Kaiba's art and didn't give it a single glance. Then my curiosity got the better of me and after seeing some praise in blogs, I decided to gave it a shot. And holy crap, THIS is the diamond in the rough this season.
The art can be a huge turnoff because it's just bizarre, concept is also strange since the one who produced it made series like Cat Soup and Mind Game, but this work is a work of genius. The OP and ED is wonderful, and if you can work past the first 2 episodes, you will get dragged into the world of Kaiba, where it's full of corruptions of living being's memory and souls, the separation of societies and tragedies. You can't help but feel emotional and the art will start to grow on you, believe it or not. The story is unique and mesmerizing, and sometimes give me 'Mushishi' vibes even.
If this anime actually had 'normal' designs, this might be one series to remember for a long time.
This is a mature anime btw, so there will be implied sexual orientations, and violence (explosion of blobs) and such.
My new favorite 5:
Code Geass
Macross Frontier
Kaiba
Chico
Soul Eater
Have been changing it the last few days, but this time it's hard to budge.

lol, Soul Eater is definitely the next overhyped popular shounen, but I dont think it makes it a bad show by any means. Its probably how Bleach started out, and I still find that enjoyable. And its by studio Bones, and everyone knows they are basically the best anime studio out there today.

So I was looking through this thread, trying to find some new stuff to watch... this comment made me go start dling it, because I LOVE love love this director, because Mind Game is one of my favorite anime movies, and he also did Kemonozume. His art style is pretty recognizable.
Well easily put Vampire Knight, love the quality of this anime, and also, love the story, music everything. Although for the summer (if I have time) I do plan on checking out among others...
Vampire Knight (Obviously XD)
Code Geass (yes I havent watched it yet havent found the time >:)
Soul Eater (I have heard alot about this anime, wanna check it out see if it's any good)
Macross Frontier (On good recommendation, and out of my own curiosity)
D.Grayman (Of course an oldie for you guys but I am far behind XD)
Well that's it, my list...if I ever get time or the chance D=
Note: this list is for what you consider the top five animes that are NEW for the Spring 2008 season and ones you think are underappreciated.
^Is that aimed at me cause all said anime are still airing and are new apart from D grayman (which is older, but it is still airing). :/
Well, your judgements are supposed to be what you consider to be the best based off of what you have seen.
You said yourself you haven't watched Code Geass (which isn't a Spring anime either, unless you mean R2), you haven't started Soul Eater, and D. Gray-man is also not a new Spring anime. That's more than half your list gone.

Pylar: Kaiba is definitely worth watching. The music is also excellent. Very unique and emotional anime. I would recommend it to any mature viewers.
It's severely underrated and overlooked because of the art, I was like that at first. But once you start it, you just want more. It's unlike those other cliche anime, and overused formulae we see in every season.
